I came to Sara's Boutique as soon as they opened at 10am and Kasandra started collecting dresses that would work for the occasion and my petite frame. They have always had the most unique, colourful, and trendy collections and then colourful classic pieces for me. I am not trendy. ;-) On Wednesday, my mom and I went to lunch and a walkabout and of course had to stop in Sara's. We hadn't been inside in a year or so. I loved walking in and seeing the treasure trove of pieces that caught my immediate attention. The prices on everything are moderate. They haven't raised their prices much over the years which is amazing. I couldn't help myself, Kassandra, Sara's daughter, was assisting us and the other patrons in the shop. She was lovely! She somehow knew without me saying or mentioning or even touching that I am a pantsuit girl. She brought me two and I was sold...hook, line, and sinker! I tried on both that she brought to me and they fit like a glove. The styles and patterns were different between the two and not something I've seen in any other store which is one of the many things that makes Sara's such a gem. Thank you, Sara's (and Kassandra), for making downtown La Mesa that much more special!

I was tempted to get it but I changed my mind due to the reason I am giving this store only three stars. The service was really bad. My girlfriends and I just had lunch together and decided to stroll down La Mesa Blvd and check out the little shops. We all (5 of us) walked in excited to check it out. We walked right past the register and the salesclerk behind it. No greeting. No eye contact. We browsed through the store and the whole time the sales lady was chatting with one man and two women at the register. My friends started leaving, but I moved back to the blouse that I liked. I thought about buying it but I couldn't bring myself to support this business Because if the bad customer service. Before waking out I wanted to strike up a conversation with the sales clerk to give her a chance to redeem herself. Now there was only one other person chatting with the sales clerk. They were talking in Spanish and when I asked how long they were in business, the older lady gave and answer and then looked away from Me and went right back to talking in Spanish to the clerk. I felt as if I was invisible! In a nutshell- cute clothes, bad customer service. I believe EVERY customer should be verbally greeted when they walk in and for sure at least some point during their visit. I don't think that's too much to ask. Another note-one friend did make a purchase. After we left she told us that she was given a plastic grocery type bag for her purchase while the chatting couple was given a cute handled bag. Weird.

The shop is fairly small but has a great selection of vintage style dresses, shirts and tops. I loved that most of the items went up to 2x but a few items went up to 3x. The woman manning the store was super friendly and helpful. She shared that she actually makes the children's clothing sold in the store and was sitting there sewing before I walked in! The children's clothing had a ton of fun character patterns (mickey, star wars, etc.) They also had a fun selection of vintage inspired jewelry and sunglasses. I ended up purchasing a circle skirt dress for $55. It isn't lined but still appears to be if great quality. The styles were comparable to what you might find on modcloth, but about 20% cheaper. I will definitely be back!
