First things first, no food here, just drinks. Second, live trad music at 6pm & 10pm when I went in early October. Seating is tight so get there early & grab a few beers and find yourself a spot. Digging in there was a good amount of pulled well seasoned brisket with carrots mixed. Very tasty dish. The fish and chips arrived with a good portion chips and a moderately sized piece of well fried fish. The fish was very fresh and flaky and the breading was very light so it didn't over power the fish. We had a pleasant meal with two great servers, a manager that wouldn't give up on finding us a table and great music (acoustic guitar) to keep us enter. The place itself is like walking into a living museum -- every inch of wall and ceiling covered in lanterns, copper pots, old signs, and a hundred years of Galway history. Grab a pint of Guinness, find a seat near the session table, and settle in. And the music -- this is the real thing. No stage, no show for tourists. The musicians sit at a table right in the middle of the room like it's been done for generations. The night we were there, one young musician absolutely stole the show, moving between fiddle, guitar, and Irish tin whistle like it was nothing, singing his heart out while the whole pub sang along. His name is Cullen Vance. Do yourself a favor and give him a listen; you'll be hearing that name again. Friendly staff, perfect pints, unforgettable atmosphere. This is the Ireland you came for. Crane Bar is a quintessential Irish pub with traditional live music. I was able to catch some live music on this particular visit and it was truly wonderful. The biggest difference I noticed at Crane Bar was that it is expected that everyone is quiet during the music. Most other Irish pubs don't mind some chatter above the music but here, it is expected that you be silent during some songs. The staff won't be shy about shushing you either. I hadn't encountered this elsewhere in Ireland and I was told by a local that this is fairly uncommon for pubs. It just goes to show how central live music is to the Crane Bar experience. Beyond that, the pints were cold and the service was quick. I highly recommend stopping in to Crane Bar for a traditional Irish pub experience.
