This facilty has without question seen much better days. The room decor was tired and worn . The shower was in a small buthtub that hardly drained, no hand rails etc. The toilet was so small and low to the floor I could not believe it was legal. Service was excellent also, we really appreciated the staff of the Simsbury Inn working on this holiday, they are all very friendly & attentive. We had…read moreeverything ready for a 200+ person bash at the Hartford Marriott in July 2020 and then came along a new word - coronavirus and that was the end of that July convention. We rescheduled it to July 2021 and we just cancelled that too. We need to keep certain essential things going within the organization, including election and succession of new officers. Because we didn't have a convention in 2020, I became the first 2-term President since World War Two, but it's time to get my successor in there. So we decided to reimagine the old multi-day extravaganza into a two day stripped down affair, so we need a hotel partner for the handful of souls who will drive to CT, as well as a suitable home base for the streamed Zoom ceremonies. It was for that reason we visited the Homewood Suites today and spent some time chatting with Millie from the front desk. She was very helpful, and showed us the breakfast area, the pool, the meeting rooms and answered some general questions about group rates and breakfasts. I want to publicly acknowledge how helpful and pleasant Millie was to us.

The staff was courteous and helpful but it's time for the elevators to be updated - they use contact paper that looks like wood to give the impression that the elevators have been updated. The flooring inside the elevators needs to be seriously replaced. I'm surprised at the level of not paying attention to detail. Disappointed that this is a Marriot Bonvoy brand.

Also, I noticed Carlin often seemed to be managing the front desk alone--even during busy periods. I'm not sure why she doesn't have more staff support, but she handled everything with patience & grace, even when there were 10-15 people waiting. She deserves recognition & backup. I did notice the hotel seems to attract a mixed crowd, possibly due to the price point, but that shouldn't reflect on the hotel itself. As long as you're there to rest & relax, the experience is more than sufficient. Overall, I'd absolutely stay here again. I'm not sure why this hotel has low ratings--my experience was excellent. This means that after driving for 2 hours and arriving hangry and with hours worth of work to do, I have to sit in the lobby to get anything done. It is challenging to focus because there are other groups here talking. I am loyal to the Marriott brand and have the gold lifetime elite to prove it, but I don't think I will stay in this hotel again. After a day of work, I want to be able to settle in my room, order some food, take my bra off, and do the work I need to do to get ready for the next day. So I must say, this is a huge disappointment.
