My husband and I have been here twice so far. It's our favorite place for a in-state weekend getaway. Always clean, high quality service and peaceful. The pool is one of the best, most peaceful indoor pools in the state, especially with the sun shining into the greenhouse-style ceiling. Can't wait to go back!

    Torn window blinds

Reviewed earlier. Here is a photo of the torn window blind. I can not photograph the smell. Musty and dank. I left the window open all day when we were out and about, which helped a little. The bed was awful. It's a shame because it's a nice facility with other nice amenities. If the bed is bad - hard and lumpy- all bets are off.

This was not a pleasant experience…read more As I walked in, I smiled and said my friendly hello. Ms. Jennifer smirked and began the check-in process without returning the same level of friendliness. We lived in Avon and now reside in Greenwich so I was looking forward to my quick stay. I tried to make some small talk and mentioned that I had lived at this property for seven months between the sale of our home and moving into our new one. I also explained that I had two separate reservations for consecutive nights and asked if they could be combined. Ms. Jennifer told me I would have to check out in the morning and check back in because one reservation was booked with a free night certificate and the other with points. I explained that I would be leaving the hotel at 4:00 a.m. for major surgery and that my 18-year-old son would remain in the room until I was ready to be picked up afterward. She informed me that because he was under 21, he could not stay in the room alone. She suggested that I complete the check-out and check-in process on my way to the hospital, which was exactly what I was hoping to avoid. During our conversation, she simply placed two bags of peanuts and two bottles of water on the counter without saying they were complimentary or offering any explanation. It felt abrupt and impersonal. She also could clearly see that I was having difficulty walking and had just told her I was there for major surgery. Despite that, we were assigned Room 233, which was quite a distance from the elevator. In addition, the room was a studio rather than the one-bedroom suite I had expected. On our way out to get something to eat, I asked if the hotel was fully booked. She replied, "No, why?" I answered, "Because you couldn't have given us a worse room than the one we received." Her response was simply, "That's how they design them." The entire check-in experience left such a poor impression that I called Marriott and canceled my second night's reservation. Instead, my son stayed with a friend in town. The next morning, when I came to the lobby before leaving for the hospital, no one was at the front desk. While waiting for my Uber, I noticed a woman asleep under a blanket with her feet stretched out in front of the fireplace. I chose not to disturb her, but it certainly added to my concerns about the overall experience and safety. Having lived at this property for seven months in the past, I remember a much higher level of hospitality and customer service. Avon, what happened to the service we used to receive?

Eggs, bacon and breakfast sandwiches were cold but the apple and orange juice is warm. The milk barely chilled. I would expect crap like this from Motel 6, but not from Marriott. Breakfast from McDonald's would've been a step up and that's pretty sad.

ORIGIN: The Old Riverton Inn allows guests to stay and dine…read moreon the site of a circa 1796 stagecoach inn that once served Hartford-Albany travelers. LOCATION: I stayed one Friday night this fall as a splurge ($229 /night) with intention to become familiar with the inn and its namesake town and surrounding communities. The site is steps away from a river and town center, making the Old Riverton Inn an ideal destination for those looking to explore the charming town or fly fish. AMENITIES: The inn preserves the availability of food and drink through a ground floor tavern. Lunch and dinner are offered at the Royal Coachman Tavern (check its Yelp page), but breakfast, conventionally provided to inn guests, is limited to an unattended counter with baked goods, single serve coffee maker, and dry cereal. While this might be ideal for early rising visiting fly fishers, it is not aligned with a conventional inn experience of hot breakfast. ACCOMMODATIONS: There are ten rooms located on the second and third floor of the inn. Guests may select specific rooms through the inn's website. Decor can be described as "shabby chic", with evidence of time reflected in the scattering of scuffs on vintage furniture, peeling print block wallpaper, and chipped paint on trim. Portable heaters in the closets and AC units in the windows are provided so that guests can modify room temperature. PARKING: To my surprise on site parking is not guaranteed to anticipated inn guests upon arrival. I arrived at 5 PM and found lot full, with six cars already parked along the emergency shoulder of State Route 20. While checking in an employee directed me to park in the emergency shoulder (safe/legal?) and assured me that I would be able to get a parking spot by time tavern closed at 9 PM. I appreciate that the current owner, Sherice Levan-Bennett, solicits guest feedback. I suggested dedicated parking for the anticipated overnight guests to facilitate easy unloading and a safe and relaxing experience. TIPS: Check out is early (10 AM). The third floor is quieter than second floor when the Royal Coachman Tavern is open for business.

Second, the interior breakfast room gets a lot of natural sunlight. Third, it has an interior swimming pool (which is quite popular with young kids). First off this was the first time I had a room on the first floor which I loved. Mainly bc I didn't have to use an elevator. Parking was free. The room was a decent size, so glad to see a microwave in the room. That's becoming rare in hotel rooms. Room smelled and looked clean. Water temp and pressure was fine . Beds were comfy. But the star of the show was the breakfast. My husband loved how every morning there was a different type of meat. Smoked sausage, pork sausage or bacon . Omelettes, scrambled eggs. An array of items to choose from pancakes and waffles, bagels , fruit, yogurt. Great way to start our day. Then we walked around the hotel to burn off the calories from breakfast and enjoyed the landscape. All the staff we encountered were very friendly. This was our first visit to Connecticut and staying here made it more pleasant.
