We initially entered into the time share market following a presentation in Las Vegas. The sales presentation asked us where we would like to go. It was an easy answer, we said Hawaii, Mexico, Oregon, and San Diego, and we preferred access at Holliday time. We owned recreational property in another state, but we thought that we could sell that property and access our time share credits. Very quickly we found that scheduling was not easy for the sites we preferred. We only were able to schedule Hawaii twice in 14 years and the others required advance scheduling of over a year. Discussions at resort sites were more high pressure sales and the sharing of "special scheduling tricks that included canceling reservations and moving to other "better" timeshares, along with inside advice on obtaining resort access for a few days at a time. Our property sold to a larger time share, and resort use became more confusing and less accessible. Travel services were high cost and we found that we could schedule our own airplanes, cars and services much cheaper and on our own schedule. As we became frustrated, we checked on selling our time share and found that the time share investment business is interesting. Our $3.00 plus per credit purchases turned into a 10 cents or less per credit in the resale market. We needed help to sort out the lack of services and questionable performance of our time share contract. A friend was given a Christmas gift of 2 nights at a Timeshare Resort. The next morning she was woken up and told she needed to attend a meeting, which she did. At this meeting she identified herself as a woman religious, a Catholic Nun, and informed them she received a small stipend for her Church Ministry. She was pressured to sign up for a Timeshare. She was told it was for a small monthly fee. Again she stated she received a small monthly stipend for her Church Ministry. Finally, after much pressure she signed a contract. In the summer of the following year she went on a mission trip to another state at was treated to 5 days at this same Timeshare Resort to minister in a soup kitchen to feed the hungry. Again she was woken up early for a mandatory meeting. Again she was pressured to upgrade her Timeshare and purchase a more ownership. Again she identified herself as a woman religious, a Catholic Nun ministering in the Catholic Church receiving a small monthly stipend. Again she signed this second contract. This time they opened a Timeshare Credit Card where payments would be deducted monthly at a very high interest rate. English is not her first language and therefore she did not understand the ramifications. She shared all this with me and we called the Timeshare Resort to attempt to cancel the contract, which was not possible. We called 2 Real Estate Brokers who sell Timeshares and received information as to possibly selling it. I then called a Real Estate Broker friend who researched both agencies and said the BBB showed they were not reliable. My nephew, a lawyer, visited me and I shared with him all the information and gave him copies of the paper work concerning this Timeshare. My nephew recommended the O'Grady Law Firm. I contacted them and shared Sister' situation and they were most helpful. She was released from the Timeshare Contract and received a check for payments to this Timeshare Resort.
