Hello I recently visited your establishment and found out my favorite Bar Tender Jerry was let go from his position without a reason. What the owner doesn't understand is that it's not the specials that he or she has for the Kildare House it's the people the employees that bring us in. I was a regular there and I would attend the Kildare House every day as would allot of us after work around 3 to 5pm hour. We would enjoy the Happy Hour specials and conversing with our favorite Bar Tender Jerry he wasn't a young kid and he could relate to us. Allot of your regulars between that hour are workers in their late 40's and 50's. And attend the Kildare House just to see HIM. We came there to see him. The buzz around the Bar that day was where is JERRY. We found out he was gone. Needless to say we were not Happy. You need to have a mixture of young staff and older staff for the patrons of Old Walkerville. If you're just going to hire young staff and turn this into a Kiddy Bar with young staff that are not mature and can't hold a conversation with an Older Person Like Jerry Could we will find somewhere else to go. Went to Windsor for lunch with friends Friday to show our support for Canada in response to our President's threatened tariffs. We had no problem crossing the border, the tunnel and the bridge on the way back. Food and service were outstanding. I had bangers & mash which were well-cooked and quite tasty and washed it down with a local large draft beer. I had lunch today at O'Maggio's Kildare House. According to a sign outside, it's been around since 1880. I asked Sarah, my server, about that. She said that up until it about 20 years ago, it operated as a B&B, when it was turned into a pub. When I checked their website for more details about the history, I was surprised they didn't provide any. I ordered a Pub Club Sandwich, with no lettuce or cheese. When it arrived, it had no lettuce, cheese or tomatoes so I asked for a side of tomatoes. It was good sandwich. The pretzel bread was soft and airy. The chicken seemed freshly cooked and wasn't processed. I'd get this again. It seems like a cute place to go back to and have a few beer. Alas, because I was driving, I had a Diet Pepsi. read more

Best bang for you buck for breakfast. This place does a hotel style all you can eat breakfast for 10bucks. And there is a good spread laid out for you. But its a buffet style breakfast so if your interested in eating your pork meat and scrambled eggs you will be fine. So tonight I decided to order for pick up instead of ordering through skip the dishes and wish I wouldn't have. At least with skip I could have gotten a refund. My wife and I normally love the Coney Dog combo, but tonight we ordered ours for pickup got home and one of the big boxes only had one hot dog in it no salad and we also ordered gravy and did not get the gravy. I guess it's my fault for not untying the bag and checking and did not want to drive all the way back. The fresh cut fries are pretty bad as well. Oh well, have to find a new Coney dog spot in Windsor. So because the fries aren't edible and with a $10 tip it was $40 for two coney dogs. read more

This is a great place to eat and hang out. We stay at the casinos for shows and this restaurant is less than 5 minutes away. We were sat outside on the patio, and it was a lovely experience. Some friends and I were checking out the historic Walkerville area and decided to stop by O'Maggio's for dinner. It is a cute pub in a historic old house - we were seated on the outdoor patio area and enjoyed the ambiance. I agree with the other reviews about the prices being kind of high for what you get. Their fish and chips are almost $25 - although I did notice they were huge portions. I opted for their chicken pot pie which was decent. Our server was friendly enough - but often got caught up talking to the locals seated around us. The food was okay but nothing overly fantastic. Classic Windsor Pub, located in the heart of Walkerville, in an old creaky house serving Windsor's hungry population with great food, and a lot of history. I came last night for a friends birthday, with a few friends and basked in the history of what is the Kildare House. Living in London, coming home feels like a nostalgic trip, and going to a longtime popular gastropub, is a treat! I haven't been in years, and the place hasn't changed a bit. We walked in, and of course it was busy, The host informed us estimated a 15 minute wait, which was to be expected, so we waited, and luckily within 5 minutes, a table was available and we were seated and within minutes a waitress came up to us with menus and asked us our drink order. We had a few minutes to look over the menu, which I had looked at it online before we came, so I knew what I wanted. I ordered the Irish Nachos with chicken, and we all split some deep fried pickle spears which came with a dill dipping sauce, which was delicious. The pickles came out first and were really hot and tasty, and waiting another 15 minutes our meals promptly came out afterwards, with another basket of pickle spears because our waitress forgot if we got them or not, no extra charge! Bonus! The Irish nachos were crispy, and tasty. It was covered with a vast amount of cheese, chicken, lettuce and tomatoes with a side of salsa and sour cream. This was one of their starters, but I had this as my actual meal, it was a meal sized portion. It was a great nostalgic experience with friends, the music in the background was audible, playing indie rock music, which I liked, patrons all over in conversation, was a bit loud, but it's expected from a classic pub like this. It was full, but we weren't there for the 5 o'clock dinner rush, so the wait wasn't long. What a great way to escape from Detroit and get right back to the good olde pubs of Ireland and the UK! I had the Fish and Chips Plate (full Halibut fried), and a few drafts of Guinness. Great! Walking into the restaurant was a bit surprising. I've been in house restaurants before that really know how to organize and redecorate, but here - it was like stepping into a middle of a house party? I don't know how else to describe it. The lights were dim which I usually don't like but it was a gloomy, rainy day so I didn't mind it much. I didn't notice after my meal but the ceiling in one of the rooms is the UK flag which I thought was pretty cool. I ordered the their award-winning fish and chips because of the pictures I've seen here on Yelp. The fish is HUGE! Pictures are accurate! The fries are fantastic :) I don't like coleslaw or tartar sauce so I didn't touch either. Now, the fish was good - at first. It flaked really well and some of the batter is nice and tender and easily able to cut through. SOME. I say some because other parts were...difficult. As I kept eating, the batter chipped off into huge pieces. There was way too much! The corner pieces of the fish were tough and sinewy. I was surprised I wasn't eating a steak! The fish was good aside from those things, but I don't know if it should be called award-winning. The service was nice. The waitresses were friendly, very sweet, and accommodating. Back in 1999, a couple of years before the wife and I married, the two of us visited Detroit from our then-town of New Orleans to catch a couple of games during the last season at Tiger Stadium. (What a superb and much-missed baseball palace--driving down Michigan Avenue this time, we saw a couple of old-timers sitting on a bench in the middle of the sad vacant lot at Trumbull, apparently trying to conjure up baseball memories, just about where the Tigers' dugout might have been. Either that, or just getting plain hammered. Or maybe both!) One day during that prior visit we crossed over the border to check out Windsor and, late in the afternoon, we stumbled upon the distinguished, 19th-century Kildare House. And stumbled out after very much enjoying a couple too many pints. With my brother-in-law in tow, we sought out the pub during our recent visit to the Detroit area and to Windsor, even though we couldn't remember its name or its location, other than that it was in an attractive older neighborhood east of downtown. But humans apparently have a homing instinct when it comes to alcohol-related good memories, because we found the place without a hitch. It's still the same: a simple, comforting warren of small old rooms. Nothing had changed, apparently, except probably the prices. There's enough character that you'd think the pub had been here forever, but apparently the house has served as a pub since only the mid-'90s and has been through a couple of ownership changes since we first visited. These days, we like to think of ourselves as responsible adults, and we had only a single beer each before moving on. There's a decent selection of about a dozen draft beers. We didn't try the food, but the menu sounded good. A nice spot that seems to cater well to all ages. read more

I was not hugely impressed during my visit to O'Magglio's Kildare house. This place has a very unique pub feel which I did enjoy. Upon walking in you feel transported to a cool British feel pub. The seating felt cramped and limited though we managed to be seated right away as we went later in the evening. Drink prices are about average with a decent selection of alcoholic beverages to choose from. Beer was cold and came out in a reasonable time. We did order appetizers at our table for food. The mozzarella sticks I found were over priced for the 5 little pieces they give you for 10$ and nothing to write home about flavor wise. The poutine was a fair size and the fries were cooked well and full of flavor. I would give this place another shot if I am in the area but it's not a first choice of mine. read more

I might return just to drink, if all other options were gone. But the food here was seriously sad. I came here as part of a group of four and we shared four dishes. Everything we ate was off: we didn't finish any of the items, despite arriving hungry. The only marginal success for me (and I was in the minority believing so) was the nearly cheeseless Lobster Mac & Cheese. I prefer mac & cheese with very little cheese, but most people would find it lacking. To be fair, this dish was also presented with quite a bit of lobster meat. However, it wasn't enough to make up for the tasteless fish (Fish & Chips), the funky-tasting Chicken Wings and the slimy Irish Nachos. I've enjoyed pubs and pub fare from Dublin to Limerick and around the world, and I know what it should be. Though Kildare House has made an interesting attempt at a classic pub menu with some twists, execution fell flat. The ambiance here is charming and inviting. I had not been to the Kildare since the ownership changed, and was a bit worried that the place would have changed to much. Why did I worry? The halibut dinner was among the best I've had. A lighter breading and less greasy than SirCedrics. (and I love SirCedrcs). A nice tangy coleslaw and tasty frescut fries. Exactly what a good pub should serve. Place that beside a pint of Guinness and we have a meal worthy of the best pubs in Canada. Add to that a friendly staff and good folks from near and far. Live music to set the tone (Chirs Bolister on guitar tonight), and a fine selection of great beers (I count 12 taps)... Kildare is still THE BEST pub in town. Well, there sure were a lot of townies here. I liked that much. And the guitarist in the corner singing "One Great City," by the Weakerthans made my evening. Those are the 2 stars. But the acoustics are horrible. It was so loud I couldn't shout loud enough to have a conversation. The beer list is terrible. Why can't you find good microbrews in Windsor? It is the most vanilla of the vanilla here, except for a red beer from Walkerville itself, a bitter English beer, and the Rickard's. Newcastle is not a "good" beer. And worst of all, there was no soap in the men's room. That just kills me. If I were a Windsorite looking for a pub, I'd drive across the tunnel, deal with the jerkoffs guarding the border, and head straight to Foran's or one of the 1000 other better pubs we have over here. read more

The perfect pub. It's authentic and unpretentious and has a solid selection of great beers on tap. The crowd is friendly and the staff is beyond excellent. As an avid drinker (kind term), I really think it's one of the best settings in the pub genre that you can find in the country. Mind you, I haven't come close to being in each area of the country, but I've lived in Windsor, Halifax, and Calgary with frequent stops everywhere in between. The change in ownership has only strengthened what was already a very solid core. Went here for the first time with my hubby Friday night. It's an old house turned into a pub style restaurant. It's quaint which is the best way I can describe the inside. We were seated promptly in a booth and it didn't take long to get our food. We got the perch basket which for the price included a lot of fish along with fries. It just wasn't all that impressive though. I did like that they supplied a huge amount of tartar sauce for dipping. We weren't there for drinks so I can't comment on them. When I first walked in, there was an instant sense of a classic European pub, complete with rickety and worn old wood floor along with memorabilia all over the walls (extra bonus...we sat in a rugby room!). To top off the ambiance, they have Kilkenny on tap. We were only here for a drink, so I cannot comment on the food (nor does my rating reflect the food). But the service was quick to start and pleasant.
