Irish beef stew and bangers and mash

We stopped in for a quick bite and beer! Lots of delicious gravy was consumed and we were happy to have leftovers to take to enjoy later. The servers were super friendly, and our food was ready quick. There was a street parking lot nearby that made it easy to park.

I'm a lover of corned beef sandwiches and my favourite place in Windsor that used to offer massive corned beef sandwiches no longer serves them anymore. Was in town visiting family for the Christmas holidays. Been trying corned beef sandwiches from various places on skipthedishes. Ordered their corned beef on rye sandwich. Finally a place that doesn't skimp on corned beef! Would definitely order from them again!

The absolute best fish and chips in the Windsor/Detroit area. The portion is huge, one order is enough to feed three people. Upgrade the fries to poutine, you won't be disappointed. It includes the perfect amount of tasty gravy and cheese curds, not shredded. Fast and friendly service for takeaway.

We just did a quick google search and definitely were not disappointed! I expected basic bar food but instead got delicious, fresh, and well made food and drinks. The waitresses are nice and vigilant to serve and make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience. The place is in an older home giving it a nice hole in the wall feel filled with history and just a home town good feel. We will definitely be back. Got the perch fish meal with the waffle fries. AMAZING!

I had lunch today at O'Maggio's Kildare House. According to a sign outside, it's been around since 1880. I asked Sarah, my server, about that. She said that up until it about 20 years ago, it operated as a B&B, when it was turned into a pub. When I checked their website for more details about the history, I was surprised they didn't provide any. I ordered a Pub Club Sandwich, with no lettuce or cheese. When it arrived, it had no lettuce, cheese or tomatoes so I asked for a side of tomatoes. It was good sandwich. The pretzel bread was soft and airy. The chicken seemed freshly cooked and wasn't processed. I'd get this again. It seems like a cute place to go back to and have a few beer. Alas, because I was driving, I had a Diet Pepsi.

Best bang for you buck for breakfast. This place does a hotel style all you can eat breakfast for 10bucks. And there is a good spread laid out for you. But its a buffet style breakfast so if your interested in eating your pork meat and scrambled eggs you will be fine. Might be worth while to charge more and have a guy cooking eggs to order and omlettes. But all and all its good place.

So tonight I decided to order for pick up instead of ordering through skip the dishes and wish I wouldn't have. At least with skip I could have gotten a refund. My wife and I normally love the Coney Dog combo, but tonight we ordered ours for pickup got home and one of the big boxes only had one hot dog in it no salad and we also ordered gravy and did not get the gravy. I guess it's my fault for not untying the bag and checking and did not want to drive all the way back. The fresh cut fries are pretty bad as well. Oh well, have to find a new Coney dog spot in Windsor. So because the fries aren't edible and with a $10 tip it was $40 for two coney dogs.

O'Maggio's Kildare House was a good experience overall. The service was outstanding, very efficient and pleasant. The food was delicious, slightly pricey (there were few "cheaper" items, they were all within a close range). The atmosphere was very relaxed, warm and inviting. We sat on the patio and they had space heaters available which was a nice touch. The drink menu was heavily beer and wine based but that was expected as it is a pub-style venue. I would for sure go back.

Classic Windsor Pub, located in the heart of Walkerville, in an old creaky house serving Windsor's hungry population with great food, and a lot of history. I came last night for a friends birthday, with a few friends and basked in the history of what is the Kildare House. Living in London, coming home feels like a nostalgic trip, and going to a longtime popular gastropub, is a treat! I haven't been in years, and the place hasn't changed a bit. We walked in, and of course it was busy, The host informed us estimated a 15 minute wait, which was to be expected, so we waited, and luckily within 5 minutes, a table was available and we were seated and within minutes a waitress came up to us with menus and asked us our drink order. We had a few minutes to look over the menu, which I had looked at it online before we came, so I knew what I wanted. I ordered the Irish Nachos with chicken, and we all split some deep fried pickle spears which came with a dill dipping sauce, which was delicious. The pickles came out first and were really hot and tasty, and waiting another 15 minutes our meals promptly came out afterwards, with another basket of pickle spears because our waitress forgot if we got them or not, no extra charge! Bonus! The Irish nachos were crispy, and tasty. It was covered with a vast amount of cheese, chicken, lettuce and tomatoes with a side of salsa and sour cream. This was one of their starters, but I had this as my actual meal, it was a meal sized portion. It was a great nostalgic experience with friends, the music in the background was audible, playing indie rock music, which I liked, patrons all over in conversation, was a bit loud, but it's expected from a classic pub like this. It was full, but we weren't there for the 5 o'clock dinner rush, so the wait wasn't long. I'll come back with friends if they want a night out if I'm in town to this classic Walkerville pub.

Huge fish. Comes with fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge.

Walking into the restaurant was a bit surprising. I've been in house restaurants before that really know how to organize and redecorate, but here - it was like stepping into a middle of a house party? I don't know how else to describe it. The lights were dim which I usually don't like but it was a gloomy, rainy day so I didn't mind it much. I didn't notice after my meal but the ceiling in one of the rooms is the UK flag which I thought was pretty cool. I ordered the their award-winning fish and chips because of the pictures I've seen here on Yelp. The fish is HUGE! Pictures are accurate! The fries are fantastic :) I don't like coleslaw or tartar sauce so I didn't touch either. Now, the fish was good - at first. It flaked really well and some of the batter is nice and tender and easily able to cut through. SOME. I say some because other parts were...difficult. As I kept eating, the batter chipped off into huge pieces. There was way too much! The corner pieces of the fish were tough and sinewy. I was surprised I wasn't eating a steak! The fish was good aside from those things, but I don't know if it should be called award-winning. The service was nice. The waitresses were friendly, very sweet, and accommodating. I would come here again for the fries and MAYBE try something new.

Shepherds pie with lamb and pork smothered in gravy
    Sujith S.

Service here is kind however mistakes were made. Food is decent but not a bang for your buck. My shepherds pie was forgotten and came out late with some parts of the mashed potato cold. In addition I was forced to pick my onion rings off a friends plate bc they were put there instead. Kildare house is ok but there are a lot of better food places in windsor. It should be noted that my friends enjoyed their meals.

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

I would order it in a heartbeat. The drinks themselves were a little on the pricey end and since I wasn't in the mood for drinking a lot, I didn't end up ordering anything, but my boyfriend got The Hammer. Unfortunately he didn't realize it would be smoked and doesn't love the flavor of butane, but the presentation of the drink and the smoked spiced cashews that came with them were excellent! If it weren't for the butane flavor (which he believes not many others taste), my boyfriend would have really enjoyed his drink.
