We were off to a difficult start because we ordered drinks but it took at least 15 minutes to get them. I don't know why. How long can a beer take? They didn't have any pale ale so our server suggested an 'Rielly's lagar but it tasted more like a pilsner. I'm really not that hard to please but that's how it was. Once the drinks arrived the food also came shortly thereafter. The server apologized for the delay in bringing the drinks. That helped but this is a pub so if they can't get the drinks out there is a problem. My fish and chips were good. My guests were pleased with their dishes. This is a very popular establishment so for that reason alone I would recommend it. Our meals were good and it was really just the strange delay in getting our drinks that put us off. There is live music with a local flair. Interestingly many of the patrons were older folks. I don't know what to read into that. Perhaps it's the folksy music. Three stars because of the mistakes made in bringing our drinks, being out of common items, etc. read more

Gord and I spent some time walking around St. John's on Sunday. We had to leave downtown about 3pm to head to the airport to catch our flight to St. Pierre. We walked up George Street and had lunch at O'Reilly's. It's such a nice day so we sat on the patio. I wasn't too too hungry so ordered medium wings. They were good. There was a light batter and the sauce was tasty. They were fairly big and there was a good number in the order. I'd order them again. My only complaint is that they were warm, not hot ... probably waiting around for Gord's meal. Gord, being more adventurous, ordered Fish n' Brewis. It's something that his Newfie grandmother used to make but he wouldn't try as a kid. He enjoyed it and said he'd order it again. Scrunchions, btw, are deep fried pork fat. It was pleasant to pass some time on the patio before we had to scamper to the airport to catch our flight to St. Pierre. read more

This is a great pub with outstanding live music in the core of St John's. The beer battered fish n chips was delicious worth getting again. The chowder didn't have much flavour & tasted more like a potato soup with shrimp in it. I'd pass on the chowder. Decent spot, I'll be back. read more

OK... this one is for the rooftop only. As the upper decks go this one is pretty good. The staff are fun and on the ball. Good selection of beers and the food is served quickly. I have always thought the food at this pub was pretty good and what comes to the roof does not disappoint. You get the full afternoon sun, but there are shaded areas if one prefers. I would give this one a try. read more

This huge pub had live music both nights we dropped in - the second time Con O'Brien from the Irish Descendants. The beer selection is decent, with a handful of beers from both Yellowbelly and Quidividi Breweries. A nice alternative to some of the more raucous George Street options. read more

Great place to stop in and enjoy some live music while having a cold local beer. The bar is a nice place to sit if you are just drinking, but you can order food there as well. The bartenders were attentive, friendly, and helpful. The beers were ice cold, served in a generous sized glass and though I am not familiar with prices of beer in Canada, seems average price US $5.50. I love the atmosphere. No smoking inside, which is great for me, but a nice outdoor patio for those who do need an accommodation. I would definitely stop in for another cold one while in the area again. read more

O'Reilly's St. Paddy's Day Scam. They cheated my group out of $160.00. We purchased 4 online all-day tickets 5 weeks ago and flew to St. John's for a surprise engagement at O'Reilly's. They gave us every bullshit excuse not to let us in and made us line up behind all the people who didn't have tickets and were trying to pay a cover charge at the door. And they already re-sold our breakfast tickets to other people who didn't leave to create capacity for the all-day ticket holders. They re-sold our prepaid reservations again to those in front of us in the line, who were paying a cover charge at the door. O'Reillys should be charged for consumer fraud. Special Thanks goes out to Shamrock City who accommodated the televised engagement for our Irish visitors. read more

One of the busier places on George street, great for live music. Cover starts around 9 and they're kind enough to give you a stamp if you're in there prior to that. They carry yellow belly on tap as well as some of the other local brews. read more

I really cannot believe my eyes, that there is a mere one review for this place. This is about as authentic of an Irish pub I've ever been to outside of Ireland. The live music is just incredible. It just seems time and time again, the maritime and Atlantic provinces of Canada attract such great live music, and it's not unusual for the Navigators to drop in here once a week and play "I'm a Newfoundlander" much to your delight. On three separate occasions, I came here and listened to a couple of guys play amazing renditions of Beatles covers, the Navigators (of course), and a couple of other groups who played Irish type reels that were so damned good that I feel more than remiss for not catching their name. On a separate occasion, I got stood up on a date and ended up getting rescued by an octet of drunkards from Halifax who salvaged my night by ordering me bottomless PBRs just because they were thrilled that I was the only Californian that they've ever met. I've danced with married and unmarried cougars here, friends from a hostel I was staying in, and many numbers from St. John's exceptionally friendly and attractive girls, and only stopped going because I had developed alcoholism for the first time in my life going for 5 days straight at one point. This is the Crete of George street, and although the crowd is predominantly a bit older, if you're sick of the Bpt-ss Bpt-ss crowd at some of the younger clubs on G st, this will be a welcome haven from some of St. John's less mentally gifted boys and girls. read more

Right off the plane in St. John's, George Street was (of course) my very first stop after the hotel. And even after a nine hour flight (total) from Vancouver, I was told that this was the place to be on a Saturday night. They weren't wrong! When I got in at around midnight, the place was hopping and I'm told it only got crazier the later it got. O'Reilly's was the pub we chose from the multitude that line George Street and we weren't let down. The mix of ages of people at the pub was amazing and something you generally don't see on the West Coast which is a shame. There were barely legals and been-legal-for-3/4's-of-lifers. The band was wonderful and played mainly traditional music. Everyone knew all the words! It was truly amazing to sit there and have everyone, all ages, all backgrounds sit and sing the same song all together over a beer. Also: The old guy who does the step dancing? Pretty freaking phenomenal. If you want a real taste of what St. John's has to offer, I'd say this pub is a wonderful place to start! read more

Terrible treatment at O'Reilly's Pub last night (December 16th, 2019) during Larry Foley's set. My fiance and I are visiting from Nova Scotia (she's from St. John's) and we came in and were dancing in the crazy way we usually do when we go out together. To our surprise, we were called a disgrace by somebody else dancing who was clearly very angry with us, and then Foley joined in with him. My fiance took a break and I kept dancing because we're used to being a little controversial and at this point we're noticing people around us are also looking pretty angry. Larry finishes another song and asks me from the stage if my mother didn't love me enough with a scowl on his face. At this point a lady who was witness to our treatment starts dancing with me in the traditional way Larry and the others were looking to see. She makes the mistake of throwing something back at Larry in the way of "F*** off Larry, you're not showing him a very good time." And Foley stops playing in the middle of his song and starts speaking unintelligibly. Then, staff, who were useless up until that point come over trying to kick the woman and I out for saying something back to Larry. At that point we left since we were being kicked out, leaving our $8 beer behind. Meanwhile, my fiance's cousin and sister were being kicked out because they went to the BATHROOM TOGETHER. Fresh in from Calgary, our party of four was ready for the quintessential George Street experience. O'Reillys was reputed to offer fine music and a cold pint so we headed in that general direction. Our attention, however, was distracted by the sound of live music from a nearby pub so, like lemmings, we followed it into a nasty trap. The drinks at this competitor were crazy expensive and the music was dead (despite the performer's moribund countenance). Soon we departed this mistake and entered the world of O'Reilly's. Our wait person quickly outlined that all of our favourite beverages and meals were two for one. With soaring hearts we placed a substantial order and in no time everything was served. The plates of fish and chips on this Tuesday special were excellent. The cod was coated with a breaded batter that proved satisfyingly crunchy while preserving the flakiness of the thick pieces of fish. The chips were "home made" and wonderful. It was open mic night and we were treated to a threesome covering Mumford and Sons tunes to perfection. The friendly clientele and serving staff made our first Newfie night a friggin' good one b'y. read more

The food was solid. The drinks were cold. The service was lacking. There were less than 20 people in the bar and 4 serving staff. I sat with an empty drink for 15 mins. My meal took a long while to arrive and when it did it was apparent it was under the heat lamp most of that time. read more

I've spent some time in Ireland and visited many a pub there so I don't think this pub looks authentic but was warm and welcoming none the less. Service was good. It was open mic night so can't say I really enjoyed the music but I loved the fact that there was live music! Tried the figgy duff which seems to be a kind of figgy pudding. It wasn't bad but it had way too much nutmeg or allspice in it. read more
