Yesterday was a big day for me. I got a haircut. For the first time in 4 months. For a person with a short haircut this is a long time! I went to the same hair stylist I've been with for the past 10+ years. His name is Guillaume Choquet. He is one of two co-owners of O'Salon. My daughter, with her long blond curls, would never go anywhere else for her cuts and highlights. All her Georgetown friends followed her and swear by Guillaume's talent. He holds a BA in Salon Arts from Paris (serious 4 years education, not a few months of training American hair dresses go through). He then practiced for years in France. He has been working in DC for over a quarter of a century. COVID side of it: for rather different reasons, but both my husband and I are in high group risk when we talk COVID. We do not leave the house except for careful walks outside in masks. We only very recently started to carefully see any our friends, not more that once a week, max 2 people at a time, never anyone closer than 3 meters, always outside. And yet, I dared to go to O'salon after I learned about Guillaume's protocol. They follow all CDC guidelines to the dot. There are never more than two-tree clients total in two large areas. They change A/C filters and hair disposal filters frequently. They sterilize everything non-stop. Of course, everyone must wear well fitted masks. To be extra safe, I made my appointment for the first slot, 7:30AM on Tuesday. This way, I was the first and the only client in the salon after their two days weekend. I will never go to this place again. They think my time is not important? Think again! I could never support a place that treated me the way I was treated today. They canceled my appointment without informing me. My weeks, my days are extremely busy and they feel this is ok? I rushed through my day and arrived, 15 minutes ahead of time, to find my appointment was given to someone else. I even received a confirmation email yesterday. I was told it was graduation weekend and very busy. WTH?! I had my appointment set. So you cancel one customer with an appointment to take another that dioesn't have a spot? Be very wary of this place It's not that they ever did a very good job, but it's just that it was close. I'd rather go someplace farther that.treats the customer better. It's for the best, ultimately, but I don't like being treated the way I was treated andI I don't like my valuable time wasted. Shame, shame, shame on O Salon. Save your time and money and avoid this salon at all costs. I am genuinely appalled by the experience I had today and the sheer unprofessionalism demonstrated. My mom has been seeing Aldina for several months now to have her roots touched up without any issue. Today, after months of consideration and discussion with Aldina, she decided to do highlights for the first time with her. As someone who has not had highlights done for over a year now due to the fragility of her hair, my mom was understandably nervous to be taking such a big step with her hair. As Aldina worked through the process of highlighting the hair, my mom asked her a simple question to make sure the color hadn't been on too long in an effort to avoid breakage since Aldina was overbooked and working on several other clients in between. Instead of responding in a contextually appropriate manner, Aldina decided to snap and started going off about how she is tired of answering "the same questions over and over." Not having the confidence to do your job correctly or being "stressed" is one thing, taking it out on the client is another. Her behavior was not that of an emotionally stable professional. I am not sure how this salon has the audacity to call themselves a high end salon when you could find a better level of customer care at your local Hair Cuttery. When I approached Soner, one of the owners, to raise my concern with the situation we had just experienced, he apparently failed to see any issue. Instead of being professional and trying to see how he could remedy the situation, he told me he "doesn't know what I want from him" and that he couldn't do anything without hearing both sides of the story. This isn't a court case! As a paying client who has never been anything but generous and respectful to all in the salon, this is beyond unacceptable and we should absolutely not be having a back and forth over whether or not it's acceptable to disrespect a client out of nowhere. Unfortunately my experience with the ownership made it all too clear that a culture of professionalism and respect is not one that is enforced in this salon. read more

I've been going to Dimitri for highlights for years, and all I can say is that he is a color genius! My daughter now sees Dimitri for highlights as well, and her hair is gorgeous. We both constantly get compliments on the color; it is natural and beautiful -- just what we asked for! The salon itself is in a lovely house, and is very comfortable. Parking isn't as easy as it might be, but I just take Lyft over there instead of fighting to find something on the street. In a perfect world, it would be less expensive as well, but in this instance, I believe you get what you pay for, and I'm getting value in that my hair always comes out of this place looks spectacular. Lucia & O Salon is incredible! This was my first haircut in almost a year (due to COVID) and I love it! The salon experience was great and the atmosphere was lovely. Lucia walked me through her plan for what I wanted done, step by step. I have very thick hair, which can be bulky at the ends, and she knew just what to do to manage this. She showed me how much she was cutting off at each step to make sure I was comfortable with the length. And she was SO friendly! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE --- I WOULD RECOMMEND NEVER COMING HERE -- I WILL NOW BE CONTACTING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU RUN AWAY !!! This was hands down the worst experience I have ever had at a salon. I have been getting highlights for 20 years and have never had someone butcher it so badly. First, I explained what I wanted, showed pictures and even know what to do and not to do (my mom was a hair stylist) and they still managed to completely fry my blonde hair. Not only did I get tiger striped highlights the first go (balayage which I specifically stated that I did not want) but when I expressed my concern and went back, they absolutely turned my hair lemon yellow and fried parts of it when they finally did give me the foils I had originally asked for. I have had two expert stylists try and fix (both mentioned how badly it was and could not believe I paid upward of $400 ) but they were not able to completely neutralize the yellow without further damaging my hair. When I was texted by the salon for a return appointment and told them how upset I was, I asked for my money back (direct and maybe a bit rude but at this point i'm so upset I don't know what else to do) only to have the following text sent to me; "Hi Nikki, it's Patricia. Just got your super rude email. If you were so upset with the hack job, you should have contacted us weeks ago.I talked to Guilaume and he said he gave you your foils you wanted (which is so 1980's.) Also, Washington is a small town and after Guilaume send your name on the list to other stylists good luck finding a salon. Have a blessed day." This is insane and I would like my money back. I usually have my hair color done at Ilo salon by Kim. Unfortunately she wasn't available and I needed to get a retouch to the balayage and my root. A read great review about the O Salon and I decided to book an appointment. It was the worst!!! The worst thing I could do to my hair! Overrated and unacceptable service. I worked with a new person called Jonatan and he completely ignored what I told him to do and charged me for a full highlight when he did half plus framing. I am from Italy and I am used to a much higher quality and professionalism. I understand that in USA the hairstylist are more expensive but it's unacceptable paying $500 for a hairstyle that I was NOT what I want, that I did NOT ask for and on top of that is POORLY done. Let me start by saying I tried O Salon because of the great yelp reviews. I had a high stakes highlight needed the week of my wedding and didn't want to risk anything. I found O Salon on yelp and decided to try it out since the reviews were good and honestly, because the prices were high and I wanted to ensure the stylists knew what they were doing. They called the morning of my appointment and changed the time, no big deal. I agreed to reschedule. When I arrived I went right in, but then sat in my chair for 20 min before getting started. If you're going to move my appointment time up, be ready for me when I arrive. I know it's typical for hairs stylists to take other appointments during a dye job but my highlight appointment lasted 2.5 hours which was just too long.. I was left sitting with my wet hair in the sink for 10+ minutes alone in a room - which made for a pretty funny selfie, but unprofessional. They also washed all of the tools they used in the sink while my hair was In the same sink. If I'm paying over $200 + tip don't wash your freaking tools in the sink my hair is currently in!!! Overall, I have to admit my hair looks great- really a great quality job. However, it's lighter than I requested and the whole experience was a time suck, stylists were inattentive and the experience overall was horribly overpriced. For the price I paid, my hair looks nice but the experience was far from what I expected. I'm not convinced that someone else in the area can't do the same job for significantly less. The 'O' must stand for Opposite, as in Do the Opposite of What I Asked. Or perhaps OOO No! They ruined my hair for the next 6 months. Sophie did my hair in record time and for record $$, at least in my hair cutting experience. I explicitly said "Do NOT give me bangs, as they fly away and curl and I have a cowlick and they don't work for me." So what did she do? Gave me bangs. And lots and lots of layers, far back along the hair line. And then she DENIED that she had made a lot of the short pieces, saying I came in with those. As if I wouldn't know. Went there with a Groupon and was instantly impressed with the decor of the salon. But of course, the real treat was Claudia. She cut my hair amazingly and it looked unbelievable after she was done. This place was all-in-all really awesome! I went here on Saturday for a deep conditioning and blow out (did one of the group coupon things that are all the rage now). When I got there, the staff was super friendly and offered me a choice of beverage while I got my treatment. I am so used to just water or old coffee at salons, but this place actually had a good soda selection too! I was scheduled with Claudia who explained the hair treatment after examining my hair-choosing the best mix for me. I headed to shampoo and got an excellent head massage by Rosa. Yada, yada, yada...sitting with my treatment...back to shampoo, now back in the chair all within 30 minutes. I told Claudia I wanted my hair blown straight, not poofy. And what did she do? Exactly that! My hair looked and felt awesome when I was done. Claudia was an excellent hairdresser, the treatment was awesome (but expensive w/o the coupon), and the atmosphere great. I purchased the Living Social deal a few weeks ago and was apprehensive about getting my haircut by someone new. I rarely do much with my hair except cut and conditioning treatment, but I was still nervous. When I arrived at O Salon I was immediately impressed. I really enjoyed the ambience and the girl that greeted me was friendly and helpful. I believe the salon recently relocated to this location. It looks recently constructed and really well laid out. It also felt like a high end salon which made me feel better as a lot of the Living Social deals are not always the best restaurants/salons/etc. Jeanna met with me first to determine what I wanted to do with me hair. I felt completely at ease once I started talking to her. She was so sweet and gave me a lot of good advice as to how I can care for my hair. She also had beautiful hair, which I think is important! Then I had the most amazing hair wash and conditioning treatment in the back. I felt like I was taken care of and paid attention to the entire time I was there. Jeanna offered me a drink and brought me a lot of good magazines to read while she cut my hair. Honestly, it was a great experience and I would book another appointment with Jeanna again in a heartbeat. read more

I've been a client of Guillaume's for over 10 years. He's a master of color and highlights and have always been thrilled with my hair and the welcoming O Salon environment. My visit there today just reaffirms the Salon's focus on customer care, health and service. In light of Coronavirus, they have gone well above and beyond any recommended protocols. I was messaged to check in, my temperature was taken, and given sanitizer. All while masked. Chairs are distanced and plexiglass walls separate any necessary space. Staff are also making sure to clean after each client. All of that said, my appointment felt warm and welcoming as always. And my hair, of course is beautiful. read more

I had a fabulous experience at O salon. I love the renovated house they're in, and the atmosphere was chic, professional and comfortable all at once. I got offered cucumber water as soon as I got in, which I gladly took after walking in horrible 100 degree weather. I had an appointment with Claudia. I love that she talked to me about what I wanted done before I got my hair washed; now she knows my hair texture and how it falls when it's not wet. I got a short but wonderful head massage during the shampooing, and then back to Claudia, who started snipping away and did an amazing job with all my requests. She is great with those scissors, and really cares about getting it done right and making sure you're happy. I was her last customer of the day, and not once did I feel rushed. My hair came out perfect: perfect length, perfect style. I got a bunch of compliments that same day, and I couldn't be happier! read more

I have been a client of Guillaume's for almost 15 years. He is incredibly talented--both at cuts and color--and I always get compliments on my hair. I will save a more detailed review of his incredible talents for another day, but today I wanted to provide a review of my first experience since they reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown. I have yet to be more impressed with the protocols a business has in place to deal with COVID-19 than I have been with O Salon. Shortly before your appointment time you receive a text to respond "yes" when you are outside the salon. A masked employee comes out and takes your temperature using a contactless thermometer and provides you with hand sanitizer. Every single employee is wearing a mask and there is hand sanitizer at literally every chair in the salon. I went to the back for my color and there was only one other client there and we were spaced at exact opposite ends of the room--plenty of social distancing! After I left the color chair to "bake" my color in other chair, an employee came right along behind me and sanitized my chair and any surrounding surface I could have touched. Same thing happened after each chair I got up from. There are plexiglass dividers between hair wash stations and shampoo chairs are blocked off so no one would ever be sitting next to you anyway. This is the safest I have felt being out and inside a business. They are taking every precaution, plus more! I can't recommend O Salon and Guillaume and his team for a safe cut or color during the pandemic. read more

I've been going to O Salon for over 2 years now, and I love it! I've tried other salons because O Salon is a bit out of my price range, but I always end up going back. Not only do they do amazing highlights and cuts, the staff is so friendly and with the cucumber water, tea, coffee and little cookies, it feels more like a relaxing spa experience than a haircut. I usually get my hair done only back home because I am so particular about my highlights and every time I've gotten my hair done in DC it has been WAY too blond! When a friend suggested O Salon she would not stop talking about how great it was, and she was right! I got my hair done by Soner and he not only did the best color I have ever had in DC but the quickest, it only took him 25 min to foil my hair where it usually take 45 min to a hour! Went to O Salon as it had good Yelp ratings, was able to get an appointment the same week, and could book online - all good things! However, my appointment was a bit of a disappointment. Started off running about 30 minutes late - no big deal, I find that to be semi-typically at hair places and sometimes I'm late, so I get it. I went in for Balayage and asked for rose gold color to be painted in (I had a picture to accompany me). I explained that I know the picture didn't totally match my hair color (it was someone with brown hair and rose gold Balayage, while my hair was mostly blond), but I liked the rose gold part at the bottom and was hoping for something close to that color. The stylist nodded, said it was probably a good idea to add in some low lights too for dimension, and I went along trusting her as the expert. Fast forward to the blow dry and I'm quickly realizing that we got our messages crossed somewhere - My hair is basically blonde with some nice lowlights. I tell her that I think it looks really good (and it does), but I had been hoping it would have that rose gold color in it. It quickly becomes clear that my stylist doesn't know what color rose gold is. She says since I said gold, that is what she ran with. I (sort-of) understand the mix-up - maybe rose gold isn't as popular as I assumed it to be in the hair coloring world, but am wondering why, based on the picture I showed her, she didn't question me more at the beginning, or follow up with something like, "You are saying "gold" but this picture shows a person with more "reddish-pinkish" tone her hair." Since she nodded at me and ran with it, I figured we were on the same page. The stylist did graciously agree to work with me to do a fix on the spot. However, that ended up being disappointing too. She asked another stylist (or maybe the owner?) for advice, and they ended up going downstairs to talk about it. I could hear them chatting about me, and while they didn't say anything overly negative, the stylist did sound exasperated and said a few different times, "That picture is nothing like her hair color... it won't work." If that was the case, she should have explained that to me before we started. It made me uncomfortable and I debated about paying and leaving then. However, I stayed at stuck it out, hoping for the best. Both stylists ended up working on my hair for the fix, which was nice of them. However, they ended up leaving the new color on my head for less than 10 minutes and the stylist seemed very worried about the color being a totally different shade from everything else in my hair (which is probably more along the lines of what I wanted, but I'm no coloring export). When we re-blowdried my hair, it really didn't look that much different to me, but by this point I just really wanted to get out of there. I paid and left. When I went home and got under better lighting, I could see the color they added, but it was more of a true-redhead red (i.e. more of that burnt orange color), and the reason I really couldn't see it at the salon was because it is hidden underneath the hair that lays on top so it's kind of hard to see where it was added. I think they did this so that it would look more natural, even though that really wasn't what I was going for. Ultimately, I feel like the fix was a bit of a waste, although I really do appreciate the effort the staff made to try to get me what I wanted - it's just that the execution didn't live up to that effort. Now, let me echo what most of the other Yelp reviews have said: the color was expertly done and did look really good for what it is. The problem is that I paid $250 plus tip, and at the end of the day, didn't get anything close to what I wanted. I felt like the focus was so much on making the color look natural and well blended, when honestly, I was hoping for it to look a bit more out of the box. Long story short = If you are looking subtle, well done color, this is the place for you. If you are looking for something a bit more quirky, I'm not sure they specialize in that here. read more

I have been going to Sonar (the salon owner) for a couple of years, and he is a genius when it comes to highlights! He is also very friendly and comfortable to work with. He does a fantastic job with my boyfriends hair too! I love this Salon, and highly recommend it. I have been going to O Salon for almost a year now and it is by far one of the best salons in the city. My hair stylist Dimitri is an artist when it comes to coloring and haircuts. I have been to a lot of high end salons and I was never happy. I have never been more pleased with my hair. It is healthy, beautiful, and long; he doesn't chop your hair like so many stylist I have gone to in the past. What's also great about him is he will do your hair at 6a.m. if you need to. Wow this experience was so disappointing. I was having some trouble finding a good salon in the area and after looking at the reviews I thought I'd give O Salon a try. I was getting pretty desperate to fix a bad dye job another salon had given me and so I asked for the owner, Guillaume Choquet, specifically so I'd be in good hands. Oh boy was I wrong! Not only did he do a terrible job on my hair, giving me red tiger strips as an attempt to lighten my dark dye, but his hair-stylist chatter had racist undertones and he made numerous homophobic remarks. Another stylist I went to said the incorrect color came from not leaving in the dye long enough which is a mistake the owner of a salon should not be making. Dennis! I had my hair highlighted by Dennis and he did an amazing job!! I went from dark blonde highlights to VERY light blonde highlights and the results are beautiful. The color flows through my hair perfect. Dennis is very friendly, listened to what I wanted and did exactly that. I also got my hair cut and he shaped it perfect to my face. He has many years of experience and it shows. I recommend him 100%! O Salon is my go-to when I have gone too wild and crazy . With their extremely conservative, trims they swing the pendulum back to normal and pretty. I have seen 3 stylists there and used them to get my hair 'wedding ready'--just thick, healthy, beautifully layered shoulder-length with good color and highlights. In six months O did a great job of getting my hair 'ready'. Trust is huge with a big occasion, and I would 100% recommend O if you are 'getting ready' for a main event. The problem with O is you will not get anything innovative, ever. If you do ask for it, they will make a good attempt but it will not look as nice as the 'classic haircuts'. So go there if classic is what you are in to. Atmosphere is OK . The shampoo ladies are really quite nice, and they will give you a fabulous head massage just because. Tip them well. They deserve it! Just to add on-- I did send my mother-in-law to Sophie and she took VERY good care of her. She gave her a chic, short cut with highlights that was pretty - not a tad boring or severe. O has it's value. I have a hard time believing that you will ever leave looking 'bad' IF you play it safe.. Very expensive, Very congressman and ladies who lunch. read more

I have been going to Aykut at O Salon for almost 6 years now and I can tell you that I will never let anyone else touch my hair. He is a genius and a true master at womens hair. Alot of my other friends see him too and are all in love with his style. It may be a little pricey, but its worth it. I mean, its a nice salon in downtown DC, what do you expect? You get what you pay for! Yes, the receptionists are a bunch of little rude twits, and there is no parking - but again, this place is worth it.
