Definitely coming here often to satisfy our sushi craving! Both times I've gotten the Shrimp Tempura roll and added cream cheese for an additional $1. O Sushi is located next to O'Brady's and so I'm thinking Irish sushi bar? And just in time because St. Patrick's day is right around the corner. Nope, just coincidence. We found this to be a nice independent restaurant offering a good selection of Japanese dishes, sushi, and sashimi. Behind the strip mall store front, we found a very well decorated dining room with well placed booth, table, and bar seating. For lunch, my wife had a futo roll and spicy tuna roll. Very fresh and flavorful. I tried a steak teriyaki bento box. The box was good, but I thought the steak had too much teriyaki sause and the veggies were bland. Both were served with miso soup and salad, and we thought these were good. I definitely will go back and I recommend. Somehow Dragon Roll has a mild banana taste but not off-putting. We also ordered Miso soup & fried calamari. As good as expected. Everything is good; not mind-blowing, but worth eating here when you want sushi and it's a convenient location. My daughter had cucumber roll and Tempura Cheesecake. I didn't taste these but she described it as "pretty good". This place is mostly empty every time I come. Their food is good enough that I would expect it to be busier. Had spicy tuna hand roll and dragon roll. The spicy tuna hand roll had quite a bit of avocado - almost taking away from some of the spicy tuna flavor. The dragon roll was excellent and I really enjoyed it. Family had dynamite, halloween rolls. These had quite a bit of sauces on them which took away from the natural flavor but still enjoyable. We also had eel and crunchy shrimp roll. The crunchy shrimp roll is 1 of the best I've tasted in quite some time. Appears to be family run as the server spoke some broken English but overall good atmosphere. Hardwood floors with bamboo plants (not sure if real) and clean sushi bar area. I really enjoy this place. The atmosphere is calming and is always quiet enough to have a nice conversation. Seems like it would be a good date spot, though we have had to sit very close to another couple when seated on the bench on the wall. The service is very good. With the place being relatively small, the wait staff are always available and have always been friendly. They are also willing to answer questions and the sushi chef was engaging when my son wanted to go watch him make the sushi. The sushi itself has never left us wanting, either in taste or portion. Wow, I can not believe it took me so long to try this place. My first experience was great. My daughter and I went for a nice evening together, and we were not disappointed. Great lunch selections. This place is nice and filled with light. It is moderately full at lunch time, which is nice. I really think there was only one waitress for the whole place, so if you are looking for a quick 30 minute lunch, this is not your place. However, if you have time to sit back and relax, then this is a good place to go. I love their lunch menu with the choice of a bento box or two rolls. I went with the Chef Choice Sashimi with Tuna Spring Rolls Bento Box. The sashimi was your standard sashimi, with krab, tuna, salmon, etc. I thought the fish were fresh and the tuna spring rolls were good. I liked the fruit they give with the bento box, but I'm not a fan of cooked carrots so I left those behind. Overall this is a great place to grab lunch, but next time I'll probably just get it to go. read more

Came here on a Friday night around 7:00. Wife and I ordered 2 specialty rolls and 2 house rolls and edamame/seaweed salad for an appetizer. Sushi came out 15 minutes after we ordered and we had to remind them that we had ordered seaweed salad, intending it to be BEFORE the sushi (hence appetizer). The edamame never came, and we had to request to be removed from the bill. Sushi rolls were mediocre at best, definitely nothing to write home about. Service was absolutely horrible. 1 waitress for a busy Friday night?!?! Not her fault, but it was obviously poor management. She tried to make up for the incorrect timing of our food being served with a free desert...but we would never eat a deep fried cheesecake...if that's what it was. If you're reading this review in hopes to make a decision on where to get some good sushi...I would highly encourage you to go elsewhere, unless this is your only option and your shopping at Target/Marshalls/Kohl's/At Home craving lunch. read more

O sushi was a wonderful birthday dinner treat from my husband. We went around 5pm and it was very quiet. They have ramen, spectacular sushi offerings and I got the deluxe tray (I think). It came with 6-8 pieces of nigiri and a special roll. I got the firecracker roll and it was AMAZING. The service was good and so was the soup+salad that came with our meal. My husband liked his ramen. It did take a little while for our food to come out. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of five is because of the restaurant atmosphere - sushi is almost always an upscale/classy feel to me, and it certainly is a nice and clean restaurant. But then there is no music and it is awkwardly quiet other than the depressing feed of CNN/FOXnews on the two giant flat screen tv's, which is just weird. Turn the TV's off and play some nice music :) I was also excited beyond belief when I saw something advertised as a "lotus seed bun" - a deep fried sesame ball filled with lotus paste! I had searched for this forever, ever since my first foray into dim sum in atlanta. I have never been able to find the delicious fried ball filled with yellow goo since! What has happened to our favorite sushi restaurant? The servers were noticeably inexperienced and not able to handle this small dining room. Customers were visibly aggravated with the lack of attention and inability of the staff. Our server couldn't even pour the unfiltered sake correctly. Sushi chefs were delivering to the tables, a definite no no. The food quality has even suffered, which at one time was the highest quality. Terrible, awful dining experience, very disappointed. This was a great, intimate restaurant that has spiraled down to well below average. We won't be back. read more

We decided to order the sushi boat, which has a large amount of sushi and sashimi and two specialty rolls. We could hardly eat that much food. All of it was excellent. I was impressed. With the 10% coupon, the price was competitive for sushi. Otherwise, I think expensive like most sushi restaurants in the area. The Chinese server was very attentive, but not overly so. Driving Cross country (from ATX to Montreal) and we found ourselves with a "hanger" (angry hunger) creeping in. My roadmate thought it would be a great idea to eat fish on Easter Sunday and her preference was sushi. I personally thought this was not the grandest of ideas realizing we were A) Landlocked and B) In Alabama, a place not necessarily on the map for ethically diverse food. Boy oh boy was I wrong! We parked in a strip mall parking lot close to Target and walked into the cutest little modern sushi restaurant. I started with a Fresh Young coconut and when it came out truly fresh and young I had a feeling I was going to be in for a treat. Ginger Salad: Delicious, fresh and balanced Eel Roll: Yummy Rainbow Roll: Very well balanced, not too much avocado like most places, this really had a good focus on the fresh fish and the variety Crunch Shrimp Roll: Awesome! Spicy Tuna: A little on the mushy slightly warm side, this was my least fav Who would have thought that some of the tastiest and most affordable land locked sushi could be found in Hoover, AL. Great service and a delightful meal that helped give us the energy to finish our drive in Maryland. This is definitely one of my go-to sushi places in Birmingham. They have some of the freshest, most delicious sushi you can find in town. And if you hit it right, the price is pretty good too. I am a junkie for a good deal; and Tuesday's at O sushi falls well into that category. All specialty rolls are $7.95 and all sake is half price. We love to have a great mid-week, date night and get some great sushi at a great price. The Thai roll is my wife's favorite. It has a really fresh taste, and a must if you love cilantro. I am a big fan of the Firecracker. It has a little darker flavor than the Thai, which makes them compliment each other very well. The fantasy roll is also another good one to try. And if you love miso soup, a cup of that is a must here too. The service is also always on point. Never had a single problem. Always worth the trip out to Hoover. read more

I'm actually very disappointed in my most recent visits. I placed a take out order and was quoted 15-20 min. I purposely came after the time frame to allow that extra time and avoid waiting around. I was still made to wait over 30 minutes for my food with no kind of resolution and to pay full price. I wouldn't have been so upset if it was acknowledged about the wait and overed a discount or at least 1 free roll. It wasnt particularly busy this time around so I don't get the wait. There doesnt ever seem to be an management around either so I'm cant exactly take this up with the waitress as I really don't blame her or the cooks. Lack of management is frustrating read more

The food and service was amazing. I was showing my 8-yeqr-old how to hold chopsticks and the server brought out a helpful little plastic trainer to help him get it. We had a Philly roll and some tamago sashimi and it came out beautifully plated, and I regret not getting photos, but my son was eager to try out the chopsticks. He got the chicken katsu ramen and I got the beef ramen, and both were wonderfully delicious. The spring rolls were so tasty I almost wept for joy. We also had a plate of gyoza and I am generally not a fan of pork but the flavors were so good that I loved them anyway. I look forward to becoming a regular visitor. read more

Each time I've been to O Sushi, I've been thoroughly impressed. The clean interior is kind of small, so it can get crowded on a busy night. The staff has always been attentive and friendly. I frequent several of the sushi restaurants in town and O'Sushi is at the top. Leo, the owner and head chef, always has fresh fish and the quality is outstanding. There is a wide selection on the menu which is better than others who just have the standard paper and pencil sushi checklist. I have sampled a wide variety of the rolls and have not had a single one I didn't finish; they are all good! Leo is also good at creating something if you are an adventurist.
