I don't come here often enough. Every time that I do, I am reminded that I should visit more often but it's not close enough to my office for it to be a regular lunch spot. Like most fast casual restaurants you place your order at the counter and they bring it to your table. My most recent visit I ordered the Drunken Noodle and Mandu (6 Dumplings filled with ground meat & vegetables wrapped in a thin dough). As before everything was excellent. Previously I have gotten the Cha Gio - Vietnamese (Pork) Egg Rolls & Pad Thai which were both good as well, but I think Drunken Noodle is my new favorite. I wish that they had a combination appetizer option of the Mandu, Egg Rolls and Crab "Angles". Very clean restaurant, but with very limited seating. You can see the kitchen is clean because it's open to the public. The staff that assists you are very friendly. Nice clean bathrooms. The food is SPECTACULAR!! If you haven't been to this little Asian gem in Hoover, you need to go. I had the chicken curry, and a couple of spring rolls, one of my girlfriends had the seafood pho, and my other girlfriend had the chicken fried rice. Everything was so delicious! Seen this place a thousand times driving by and finally tried it today....probably will drive by it another thousand times before we come back again, if then, haha. The restaurant is a part of a small shopping complex. The interior is cute with 7 tables and some counter seatings. You order from the counter and I see 4 people total in the kitchen/counter area. Ordering is easy and the food comes out quick. Some ordering negatives. First of all, some of the pricing on their menu is apparently not right. For example, I ordered a boba tea. It says $4 on the menu but it rang up $5. When I asked, the employee said the menu is wrong. Sounds like they need to update the menu. I was going to post the menu pics with my post, but there is no point when the menu pricing isn't accurate. Then they charge you a 3.5% credit processing fee if you pay by credit card....which would be fine except when we tried to pay with cash, they didn't have change. So.....we had to pay by credit card and ended up paying a fee. Now, the food. We ordered a beef pho and a curry noodle. They were both okay. The beef in the pho is very tender, but there were only 4 small slices. They apparently put fish sauce in it already instead of letting you add it yourself if you want at the table. So that's a big yuck to me as I personally really don't like that fishy flavor/smell. Also, there isn't the same type of meat variety as there usually would be at a pho restaurant. So overall I would rather go to Saigon for my pho. I will give them props tho for having the right kind of soup spoon though....something Glass Panda can learn from. The noodle in the curry noodle bowl was overcooked. The flavor is okay, but not as good as Surin's. Also ordered a Thai tea with boba. It was okay. The boba was pretty chewy but the Thai tea flavor wasn't right because the condensed milk or the half/half ratio to tea is too high. So all in all, it's okay, but there are better in Birmingham. read more

I have been wanting to try Pho (pronounced fuh) for a while. I heard about this restaurant, which isn't far from my home, so I decided to stop by on this chilly day. As I entered, immediately noticed how bright and clean the restaurant is on the inside. The two ladies behind the cashier register had bright, beautiful hair. They noticed my blue hair and they complimented me. That made me feel nice. I ordered Beef Pho and Crab Angels. I decided to eat in because I heard Pho is best eaten fresh. There were not many people dining in so I felt comfortable eating there. My food was brought out to me and the employee put two sauces on my table. Everything looked great! The Crab Angels were really good. They don't hold back on the cream cheese. The Pho was delicious! I did add a little of the hosin and sriracha, which gave it more spicy taste. Pho Pho offers Pho (the traditional Vietnamese soup) and a whole lot more. I like Pho so I'd be satisfied with that, but don't expect other Vietnamese dishes. Instead, this restaurant offers popular dishes from different Asian cultures. For example, Korean Bulgogi, Thai Curry, and some Chinese stir fry. I think it is a grand idea because there is something everyone on the menu. The challenge Is can they do everything well? David L and I had lunch on Wednesday. We started with Crab Angles (every Asian menu need something misspelled). I thought these were very good. Plump and hot. If you like cream cheese there is plenty of it. I didn't taste any crab, but I seldom do in this prep. I ordered the Chicken Curry Noodle. They brought out a steaming hot bowl of rice noodles in a chicken curry soup. The broth was thick and rich, and there was more noddles then soup. It didn't have an strong curry flavor which I would have preferred, but it it was still good. It is a big bowl, and the noodles will fill you up. I actually didn't finish my bowl. David ordered the Thai Basil Chicken. He said it was good, but not the best he had ever had. It was a large portion and he took home leftovers. They also offer boba, and I ordered a Mango Boba. Normally I get boba in a slushee, but they only offer it on ice. We ordered bibimbap (Korean dish - rice with assorted vegetables and bulgogi meat, topped often with a sweet spicy gochujang sauce and fried egg) & pho for to-go, which were both solid. One thing though - I do wish they offered a raw meat option for pho, but that's minor compared to the convenient takeout packaging + generous portions that deserve all the stars, especially during a pandemic! I also appreciate that they offer boba tea drinks. The staff were patient while I suffered minutes of indecisiveness on which flavor to go with... I've been driving by this place now for oh about 10 years, it was finally time to take the plunge and see what they had to offer. First off, this place is full of vibrant colors when you walk in ... pretty cool wall art (painted murals on the walls) through out the restaurant. I literally made it to the first item on the rice entree list and I was ready to order - Beef Bulgogi. A little on the expensive side for lunch clocking in at $15.00 plus a drink at $2.50. I should note, this was the most expensive item on the menu, lot's of stuff in the $12 - $13 price range. Food came out in a large disposable bowl. A very generous serving. Filled with rice and topped with beef bulgogi, a small space for some greens with carrot shreds. Beef bulgogi didn't have a super powerful punch to it, but had really good flavor. I'd recommend stirring this thing up if you get it, the bulgogi juice was all at the bottom of the bowl, and had great flavor. Staff were friendly and the restaurant itself was clean and tables were distanced so that you had some space between yourself and the other guests. All in all I'd recommend this place and I look forward to returning so I can try some other menu items. read more

Finally an excellent asian restaurant near me! I was so excited to see the sign go up on the front a couple of months ago and on Sept 30 they finally had their Grand Opening. Located across Montgomery Hwy from Hoover Tactical, Pho Pho is in the Hoover Village shopping center directly adjacent to the T-mobile store and Dan's Fan City. It is where Organic Harvest used to be. The same owner also claims the Pho Pho located in the Pizitz Food Hall in downtown Birmingham, who also happens to own The Standard, a hamburger place also in the Pizitz Food Hall. The "front" of the establishment deceives you as you enter and encounter the spacious interior. The walls are painted a mild orange with strategically placed spotlights that create a contemporary look. I rather enjoyed seeing the large "cartoon" murals on the walls. There are a couple of tables that seat 4 but the rest were smaller that only sat two. Tables were spread apart nicely during this pandemic. There is nicely made "picture" menu for their main dishes on the wall next to their drinks cooler.. Don't let their name Pho Pho fool you because they are not limited to just vietnamese cuisine. Their chefs are versed in a variety of genres as their menu also includes Korean, Japanese and Thai dishes. If you're a specialized connoisseur of a particular dish, they may entertain your special request? Their apps include Crab Angles, Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Mandu, Shrimp Tempura, Takoyaki and Spring Rolls. Main dishes range from $9 to $14. Their Vietnamese offerings include a variety of Pho. They only have a single ramen dish, the Tonkotsu, but a couple of Korean bulgogi as well as Bibimbap. Thai dishes such as the traditional Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Massaman Curry, and Thai Basil Chicken also grace their rice dish section. For dessert, you can sample their short list of Boba Teas, Hot Tea and Vietnamese Coffee. I had already tried their Mandu which were just dumplings filled with ground meat and vegetables. They were perfectly flash fried to seal in the juices. Choose your favorite dipping sauce. Mine was soy sauce with Sriracha and they were delicious. I called in our order and arrived 15 minutes late where my order was ready. The 4 shrimp tempura were stretched straight, battered and fried. Crispy and tasted quite good dipped in the chilli sauce and oyster sauce. Tammy tried the Chicken Drunken Noodle. It's their version of the thai dish, Pad Kee Mao, which is flat wide rice noodles, stir fried with bellpepper, carrot, basil, onions and scallions. I got to taste it and it didn't taste exactly like the Pad Kee Mao I've had previously from Masaman or Blue Pacific, but close enough. I imagine each chef can put their own spin on dishes. Sarah tried the Chicken Pho. Again, she didn't care for it because she usually gets the pork flavored pho from another vietnamese restaurant. I tasted it and I thought it was quite good. The broth had a strong chicken flavor. The shredded chicken, bean sprouts, fresh basil and fresh onion blended nicely with the soup. When I have soups like that I prefer to have them dining in because it is best eaten when it steaming hot! For myself, I decided to try their Chicken Curry Noodle. It is rice noodles, lettuce, and scallions served in a fragrant coconut curry. The grilled pieces of chicken were delicious as well as the orange tinted curry. I will see if they can make the curry a little spicier when I order it the next time. Again, it would've been even better if I had the dish freshly made. All our dishes were carefully packaged with the broth and curry in separated containers so that you can personally put the dish together. I thought everything tasted wonderful. Yom Yom Yom. Opening a new eating establishment during this pandemic is no task for the timid. So support your local businesses as much as possible. You will most likely be greeted by Andy, the manager, as you place your order with him at the brightly lit counter. He is friendly and cordial as he quickly places your order on his apple ipad ordering system. Orders can also of course be called ahead or placed online at www.phobirmingham.com. This place is super close to my house and the other reviews encouraged me to try it. The menu looks awesome and we plan to try several items! My kids love Pho though, so we tried that first. We all got the beef, as that's our favorite. The noodles, meat, & some onions were packed in one container and the broth in another. Plus a bag full of traditional toppings (lime wedge, bean sprouts, Thai basil, and slices of jalapeño). They provided sauces, napkins, chopsticks, and a fork & spoon per order. A new Korean/Vietnamese restaurant quietly opened a few days ago in the middle of the pandemic. Finally something to be excited about in these dark times. Please go out and support them as I want them to succeed. The restaurant was sparkling clean and the staff were wearing masks. They are also observing social distancing guidelines. I picked up 3 dishes to go and they were excellent. I'm already planning a return visit. The Takoyaki was light and fluffy and really delicious. It's been years since I was able to have this dish done properly. The beef and pork bulgogi were both excellent. The marinade on the beef was not too sweet and the pork was incredible (but it IS spicy). Both bulgogi dishes were served with a generous portion of rice and a small salad with pickled vegetables. I'm so happy to have a place that serves good Korean food at reasonable prices. Birmingham is woefully underrepresented when it comes to Korean food. read more

I order the beef Pho because I was craving some and luckily stumbled upon this unique location in Vestavia Hills/Hoover area really close to my job; I was not disappointed one of few Vietnamese restaurant that has Sriracha Sauce !!! The only thing I was a bit disappointed was that my phon didn't have alot of cilantro leaves or greens on it other than that it was delicious the Mandu aka Dumplings were a bit hard not the usually fried hard dumplings they were a bit more in the toasted side but they were still good I just rather have a bit of a soft spot them. We popped in for some Korean food on date night and it didn't disappoint. My husband got Bulgogi and I got Bimbimbap and we shared an order of Mandu. It was a generous portion and come with what appears to be like a gojuchang sauce but with a little less heat. The only downside was my egg was over cooked. read more
