This place is my favorite. I literally drive from Albany, past multiple closer places, every time I go for sushi. I can't stand overpaying for crappier food at other spots. The plates here are $1.95 no matter which one. They will make to order, for the same price. No waiting for some happy hour. The rice is ON POINT and the wasabi is authentic! Fish is fresh every time. It was not well-signed, but they loudly and patronizingly told us we should hurry so they could go home and "celebrate the holiday with our families." The hostess/server proceeded to help 5 other groups of people as I waited to place my order. Once the 5th group was ready to pay (who saw me waiting the whole time) walked up, the hostess told me she would ring them up and then help me. The couple saw that and made a face that could only be explained as "wtf sorry dude" I walked out the door after wasting (not waiting) 10 minutes. We ducked in for a quick bite during Make Music Salem and were pretty happy we did. We went in around 4pm which is an off time but we were working around band schedules. The server that helped us was friendly and accommodating when I requested salmon nigiri after I noticed it wasn't on the belt yet. She brought 3 plates quickly and it was super fresh and the rice was proportioned just right (not rice heavy). She also recommended a few other dishes that she was putting out so we grabbed those too. The plates are 1.95 each and it was so good we had 6 plates each. I wanted to eat more if I could have, but I was full. Overall it was a great deal on tasty fresh sushi and the restaurant was comfortable and clean. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try. About 1 year ago, I was going to come back and re-rate this place a 2 stars, I went in and the whole place had downgraded. The rolls were topped with old avocado, and everything tasted stale, and the fish was fishy, which means it was old... Thankfully, when I went back last month, that all had changed. The downside, the rolls are much smaller and the prices went up, HOWEVER, I will take smaller rolls and a dime more expensive per item, if it means better fish, fresher avocados and vegetables, less sauce on the the rolls(trust me it used to be excessive), and slightly smaller roll sizes, I'm okay with that. Everything tasted good and fresh. No, O'Sushi isn't mind-blowing, but for cheap cheap cheap sushi, it is very good, I prefer 503 Sushi as their prices are the same or cheaper, but sometimes I enjoy some variety, which is why I go to O'sushi. All in all, the changes that have taken place were for the best, the food is fresher, and the staff seems happier, which makes for a much better experience overall. Wow great sushi place, all the sushi tasted fresh and the customer service was great! The woman who worked there when I ate was very attentive and super sweet. They have gluten free soy sauce and also lots of gluten free options along with kids chop sticks. They have a lot of sushi creations I haven't seen at other sushi restaurants along with a sweet and spicy sauce on one roll that was like nothing I've ever tasted before with so much flavor. I've been to O'Sushi at least five times in the last six months. Today was the last time I will ever eat there. I usually get the seaweed salad along with many different types of sushi. I eat sushi often and I'm used to the taste of fish, I have no problem with the oft complained about 'fishy' taste. Today, as per usual, I got the seaweed salad along with other sushi. I ate the sushi first as I was saving the seaweed salad for last, since it is my favorite. Unfortunately, my first bite of seaweed salad was bitter and off tasting. I mentioned this to the server, who took it to the back. I assumed she would tell the kitchen and they would make up a new batch. She returned telling me they order it from Pacific Seafood, it comes out of a bag, and that they had opened a new bag of it yesterday. She told me the manager/owner said I would have to pay for it. I said that I didn't want to since I had only taken one bite and it was clearly bad. Next, the owner came out and told me I had to pay for it since they can't have people trying everything and putting it back. I agree that just because you try something and don't like it, you shouldn't be able to just send it back. It is another thing entirely if it tastes like it carries a food borne illness. I would think their business wouldn't want people to get sick and would investigate the issue. They should have been thankful that I pointed it out. I told her I had eaten it before and that this one simply tasted like it had gone bad. She refused to understand my situation acting offended and like I was trying to get out of it because I was just dumb and didn't like the taste of it in general. O'sushi does not care about their customers and clearly does not care about repeat business leaving. I have been here several times, and have never been disappointed. Everything I have tried was very good, but my favorite options are the double shrimp and Vegas rolls. The salmon is also very flavorful, and was recommended by the very friendly waitress, who told me it was her favorite. A big shoutout to the staff, who are able to handle even the busiest lunch hour rushes with an effortless finesse, which is very impressive, considering there are many times that each seat is filled. It's a pretty decent place. It's s little bright and j-pop bubblegum for my eclectic taste - but I still go there often. The food can only be described in the form of a humble brag: living in Japan, I have been exposed to some of the worlds top tier sushi. And while I would never put this McSushi in the same ballpark, I do find almost ever piece delectable and satisfying! I am, whether I like it or not, half American! Additionally, Food is dang cheap. Cheaper than most places than most. At $1.75 per plate (regardless of what you get), who care about the presentation. Finally it's located downtown. That definitely adds to the area current revival (read as: gentrification) which is important for me because I was confusing downtown with spinsterhood. Summery: I am a disabled person with a service dog. Today (4-23-15) this establishment attempted to refuse serviced based on my need for a service animal, I was eventually seated and given very poor service/ outright ignored due to my having a service animal. Review: Around 1pm, during the slow part of lunch, I went with a friend to eat at this establishment. Immediately upon entering we were stopped by a waitress and told that "they don't want dogs in here, ever". I proceed to state that she was a service animal, it was illegal to refuse me service based on my having her, and offered to give them an ADA law card. After leaving us standing among onlookers for five minutes while the server, whom I don't find in the wrong for doing as she was told, talked to her manager, we finally got the verdict that we could stay, because it was not busy and there where not many people there. "Even though they have the right to refuse anyone they wish", as long as we sat at the table near the end of the room, right next to the door out. After sitting down at a table too small to house both the service animal I have, and the company I was eating with, we were moved AGAIN, this time to the back of the restaurant, and then ignored us whole visit (its self serve conveyer belt sushi, but we still had waters to fill and orders we could have made) The Americans with Disabilities Act ruling on Service Animals, as seen in Title III, 36.302 Modifications in policies, practices, or procedures. Item C, Parts 1 - 7 A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal's presence. Establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises. People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals. It is upsetting that this establishment, which has so many favorable reviews, took it upon themselves to challenge and break the law and create a hostile experiences for myself and the clients who had to witness the exchange while doing so. I hope other disabled persons who need service animals see this review and know that this restaurant has discriminated against peoples with special needs, and had no qualms about doing so. read more

I thought that the conveyor belt style was interesting and was able to provide you with several different options for sushi. The price of each small place was $1.75 each, which was great. However, some of the plates I had weren't that great while some were good. The experience would have been better if they labeled each plate, because some are hard to differentiate, especially if they have sauces on top you can't distinguish the fish type. I do have to say I had a piece of chocolate cake and it was very good. But the sushi was mediocre and not as fresh as I had hoped. But I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I am a big fan of conveyor belt sushi places, and this one is pretty good. All plates are $1.75 during the time I went, but the colored plates make me suspect that they will start segregating based on price after a while. The staff was friendly and helpful. They came by several times to make sure we had what we needed and to answer any questions about what kind of sushi was on the belt. They offered to make sushi fresh if we didn't see something that we wanted. As per the previous review, the music was Top 40 songs, which did seem a bit strange considering that many other customers were middle aged. However, it didn't bother me particularly. The food was good. Not spectacular or bad, but good. For the price, I found that the sushi tasted just fine. The fact that sodas had free refills was nice, too. read more

Great food in a great location. This little sushi joint is a great little place to grab great sushi. They get fresh fish in the mornings, and the sushi chef in the back filets the entire fish himself. The filets come to the prep station and gets sliced on to sushi rice for their sake nigiri. Delicious. There are your standard sushi pieces, and a few of the regional favorites (Salem Roll, Dragon Roll, etc). A lot of the regional favorites are tuned to American tastes: Lots of sauce with sweet and spicy accents. I prefer my sushi more subtle and traditionally prepared; Fresh fish with perfectly seasoned rice. The owners of this place are from Japan, so they know their stuff. They know how to traditionally prepare sushi, so they can really satisfy my cravings. They also have really good house specialties like Miso Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen, Udon, and Japanese Curry. They use a quality ramen noodle that other ramen places in town don't quite do right. Their ramen noodles are chewy and alkaline just like traditional Japanese ramen noodles should be. Their broth for the udon and ramen are so delicious. Their waitress told me that they scratch make the broth and curry so that was really impressive. Both take some skill to make from scratch, and I can see all of the fresh ingredients they use daily. Awesome. The service was great! I've visited during down times and rush times. The down times were great because I could get the help's attention whenever I needed it, and could converse with the staff. Rush hours are different because the offices around the areas tend to go on break around the same time, so the restaurant is VERY busy with tables turning over almost every minute. The staff try their best to keep everyone satisfied while turning tables and checking guests out all while keeping a friendly attitude. If you visit during rush hours: be kind. They're trying their best to accommodate everyone! They'll be happy to get to you when they can. I didn't get the name of the young man who helped us, but he made us feel welcomed even during rush hour. He and the other waitress made such a great team: taking turns bussing tables, helping guests, and checking them out. I can see why others don't think this place is all that great, but in all seriousness, this is my favorite sushi place in the Willamette Valley. I would rate a zero if I could. My roll was so covered in spicy Mayo that I had to scrape it off to even be able to take a bite. They have a little disclaimer sign that basically means no matter how horrible your food is they expect you to pay for it even if you are unable to eat it due to how awful it is. When I asked about it while paying the server gave me some lame excuse about how it's a Chinese thing to give complimentary tea, not a Japanese thing. We went here over a year ago and the place was dirty and the counter tops(eating area) was sticky. The food was only mediocre at best. We were over charged and then the guy argued with us. I would have never gone back there if I had my way. A year later we are going to dinner with some of my wife's friends and where do they want to go? You got it O'Sushi. Much to my surprise the place is clean. The food is fairly fresh. *See conveyor belt sushi. They had a great selection. It was early dinner time and the place was over half full. The belt was being reloaded with fresh rolls on a steady basis. I like raw fish so I generally don't eat it on a conveyor but when I asked for Tuna I got fresh made, decent sized pieces. I am sad to say that this place has really gone down hill. Had been good for local sushi-go-round on a belt. The quality has diminished somewhat with the non-salmon fish requiring spicy sauce to not taste fishy. (Management: this is a problem that you know how to fix.) More abrupt than the slow decrease in quality has been an apparently new management decision which seems to be both unusual and unfriendly; the waitstaff is now yelling at patrons who have special ordered food if that food does not arrive at their tables before they are ready to leave, in this instance a 15 minute span of time (between ordering and needing to return to work) during a work-day lunch with a full house to hear the edict, only softened by the waitress stating that she would allow them to not pay (for the food they did not get) just this once. Just to be clear,the patron (and full house) was informed that the patron would be responsible for paying for the food EVEN IF IT DID NOT ARRIVE TO THE TABLE. Even if this were in a whisper it would be an unusual business decision. If this is truly a management decision, it is sure to backfire as it is apparent to me that nobody who witnessed that tirade is planning to return to be subjected to this. If management is making the waitress pay for it, that is also not appropriate as a way to recoup perceived losses for NOT KEEPING UP WITH DEMAND for food that changes status from wanted to unwanted because it arrives too late. Unless there is a significant and openly announced policy change that is welcoming and transparent, you have likely just shot yourself in the foot as this was a widely witnessed and unwelcoming outburst. read more

I've eaten here a few times, mostly due to the proximity to our house and not because it was delicious. The sushi is serviceable and reasonably cheap (which may be a red flag to some), but the service is terrible. I mean TERRIBLE with all caps! They are usually understaffed for the amount of customers (literally one server for 15 or so customers) and we had to wait quite a while for our special orders. The hot items (pork dumplings) weren't hot by then. Our last time there, and the reason we won't be back, the seaweed was rotten, and we asked for it to be removed from the bill (it was like $1.75). The server refused, then I asked to speak with the "owner", who barely spoke a word of English. I struggled to explain that the seaweed was bad, and they stood their ground based on "you grabbed it off the conveyer belt so you have to buy it"! What? I paid the $1.75, but will not go back to this establishment. I know it was only a few bucks and I could have just paid it, but in the interest of customer service, I was expecting a sincere apology and the item removed from our bill. As a result of their refusal to do this, they lost a customer who spent approx. $50 at their restaurant over the previous year (yes, I checked my bank). For shame, O' Sushi! For shame! If you want the real deal sushi, try Cherry's Nagani in Keizer. It's a wee bit pricey, but fresh and DELICIOUS.
