Like Tom S., I can't judge the quality of the cut because I never was able to even make an appointment. I called at 5:30 on Thursday evening, hoping to make a Friday appointment for my son, who has awesome, puffy, Colin Kaepernick afro-type hair going on, and I wanted to get it shaped and trimmed a little to make it look a little less wild. I was hoping, especially based on all the positive reviews, that Diverse Kuts would be the place to help me tame my little man's crazy mixed-race hair while still keeping it "puffy" the way my 4-year-old likes it. The phone rang quite a while, and I wondered if everyone had gone home, when finally someone picked up. It took me two times to try and explain that I was wanting to make an appointment for a haircut for Friday. The first time, the guy asked "What do you want?" and when he understood and asked what time, I said "How is 11:30?" His response (despite Yelp saying Diverse Kutz opens at 11am) was that "Oh, we're not open then. We don't get in until about 1:30." I suggested 2pm, then, and he asked what I was hoping to have done. I explained, and suddenly he says "Ok, hold on." He leaves and a woman gets on and says "Hello" like I'm interrupting her day. I ended up saying "You know what, never mind" and hanging up. I felt awkward before we even set foot in the place. I won't be calling back, and I'll start up my search again for a place to help me make my son's wonderful hair a little less Kap and a little more summer-ready. I'm disappointed. read more

I have been getting my haircut from Rickie for about 15 years. I would drive an hour to have him cut my hair. It is perfect every time. The only negative is that I need to book ahead of time because they are so busy. read more

One of the worst cuts I've ever received. 3 of my friends also had terrible cuts from here. Showed him a picture of what I wanted. He proceeds to give me a bowl cut and then starts mowing everything down as if it's grass. Ended up looking like a monk with 1cm of hair all around. But it's not even his sense of style. Even with the cut he gave me, there are splotches of longer hair that sticks out throughout my head. He gave me (an unwanted) buzz cut that's wasn't even. You'll get a better looking haircut if you cut it yourself. If you need a military cut and don't mind paying $15 for it, then go ahead. read more

Outstanding service!I got my hair cut by Rickie. He listened and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. He took enough time to make sure he didn't miss anything. Not to mention he was totally down to earth and service oriented through the entire experience. I never felt like I was in a "haircut factory. This place isn't fancy or pretentious. It's just a laid back neighborhood place where all should feel welcome. I like the fact that they had a TV on with ESPN. It left it my choice if I wanted conversation or just relax and catch part of a game. Overall, I liked it because the price was right, the people were nice, and it's conveniently located. Took my 14 year old son to get his hair cut. He's been wearing it long (as in l-o-n-g, in-the-eyes, Joey Ramone long). It's been driving his mother and me crazy. We finally negotiated (i.e. forced) him to go for a cut that would at least remove the vague Cousin It look. He reluctantly agreed, but I decided to go for Diverse Kutz because I knew it would be more personalized and, hopefully, a bit cooler than a standard Great Clips or something. I was NOT disappointed. Rickie was very cool and slowly walked our son through his hair cut, asking at each point "how about we take a little off here?" or "I can do this, if you think it's OK, and it'll lay flat." and so on. Long story short. It worked. Peace reigns in our home once again. Way cheaper than therapy and looks better. This is a multicultural place where they can do all kinds of hair (my son has Asian hair) and a great warm vibe. The cut was $15, but it is worth twice the price. Can't say enough good things. Not bad! About average pricing ($20), make sure to make an appointment or have a long time period slotted out these haircuts take a long time (over an hour), barbers are fairly friendly. I was happy with my haircut and glad that the barber put so much thought and work into it, felt like it was worth the $20 price tag, may look for a more personal space in the future however. read more

In my world, getting a haircut at a barbershop is one of life's great pleasures. It allows me to relax and, for a least a little while, feel truly served. To enjoy a friendly, welcoming, and respectful establishment is important. To have that AND get a terrific, professional cut is wonderful. That is what you get here. Just received the best cut I've had in ages at a great price! I cannot deny the skills that Rickie has. My go to haircut has been a faux hawk for the past several years, and I've been through a bunch of different stylists at higher end salons and Hair Cutteries who have varied wildly in skill. Stylists who have done my cut on point would leave (seems like many salons I've gone to have high turnover), and then the replacements would either hack it up or be really inconsistent. Now that I've found Rickie, who is also the owner of the joint, I won't have to worry about rolling the dice on my hair any longer. His establishment is unassuming and the vibe is really chill. I can only speak on my experience with Rickie, and he is phenomenal. He took his time, understood my aesthetic, and he honestly wanted to take care of my needs and expectations. From my previous experiences with other stylists, they usually have a hard time with fading and blending my cut, but Rickie trumped them all on his first appointment with me! All for just $15. Argh, I wish I found him sooner because I've been getting inconsistent results for the past few years at $25 a pop! I want this guy's shop to do well, and I hope more people catch on to Diverse Kutz. This place is GREAT!!! I have been shaving my head for 20 years, and yesterday I decided to try and rock a bald fade. I walked in and was pleasantly greeted by the staff. My barber was Queen, and let me tell you, she hooked me UP!!! Not only did she give me a straight razor lining, she also used the straight razor to make sure my bald fade was bald. Unbelievable experience to say the least. It was the absolute BEST haircut I have EVER had. I am most definitely going back and will maintain my haircut. All hail the QUEEN!!! read more

Let me begin by saying I have wavy, curly, crazy hair. The longer it gets the harder it is to cut, and currently we're approaching Jim Morrison level. Ok, maybe not *that* long. The point is, Rickie provided one of the best haircuts I've had in years! When it comes to haircuts, the most important thing (besides skill) is communication. So many people sit in the chair and don't tell their barber exactly what they want. Fortunately, Diverse Kutz has a very comfortable atmosphere and Rickie is easy to talk to. He talks with you throughout the haircut, and really gets a feel for what you're wanting. I've been a loyal customer of punch barbershop down the block for about a year now. A friend recommended diverse kutz to me. I am not exaggerating or biased when I say that I received the cleanest cut of my life. Bimo was my barber and he took his sweet time making sure all the details were nice and tight. I always do a fade from 1-3 for my sides and back, while trimming the top just a little - he delivered perfectly. I was even amazed that he was able to handle my baby hairs that always seem to stick up for Asians like myself. Along with the haircut, he gave me a tight line up. Keep in mind this was two hours before closing time. Probably shouldn't be sending your barbers home early when you still have customers willing to pay for the service you're in business for.
