Oak Bakeshop is a super cute cafe, with a full coffee bar. I ordered their sweet chai latte and knish. They have a beautiful display of all their pastry and baked goods as you order, so it was hard to only order one item. They serve Jerusalem bagels but no standard bagel options or anything (but I wish they did). Baked goods are great, but there's limited options if you're trying to go for something with protein or less sugar. The chai latte was very sweet but I liked! The knish was huge and tasted as expected. The outer crust was thick, so it tasted dry at points but overall, it was fun to try. read more

I really wanted to like this cafe, but left dissapointed mainly because of their coffee. I ordered an iced pistachio latte, my wife ordered an iced caramel latte, we shared a bureka and a knish. The bureka was very flaky and flavorful, but a little bit on the salty side. The knish was my favorite thing that we ordered. It tasted like a veggie - mashed potato pie. It was creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I had this around 10AM and passed on lunch because I was so stuffed. I would rate this cafe a 4 star if it was only for the food, unfortunately the coffee wasn't good. The coffee tasted really watered down and lacked a bold coffee flavor. It was as if we ordered oat milk with a splash of coffee. They definitely have to reevaluate their proportions. My wife's latte tasted just as watered down and she tossed it out. I, on the otherhand drank it, even though it wasn't pleasant because I don't like to waste. This left me wondering if everyone in the shop makes coffee beverages the same way or whether it was just one employee. I'm not sure...and don't think I'll be coming back for any drinks. I really wanted to like it, but what I ordered just didn't do it for me. So this is only based on what I ordered. Food: - ordered an iced caramel latte with oat milk: it was flavorless and very watered down. I could barely taste the coffee or caramel in it. I only drank 1/4 of it. - Bourekas: I love feta..it looked good but it was way too salty. - Knish: this one wasn't too bad. It was huge though! If you like potatoes, this is a good pick. Service: The service was good overall. The staff were nice. Ambiance: It's a cute and small little cafe. There's areas to sit near the windows and some outside seating. I am a big Oak Bakeshop fan! I love how pretty the interior is and that they even have a pink espresso machine that matches their pink coffee cups. I recently ordered for Thanksgiving and their desserts were so delicious. We went with the apple crisp and pumpkin pie, both were huge hits. I also enjoy their seasonal latte flavors and have to try a Jerusalem bagel one of these days. I do love their jew-ish inspired bakery theme. Oak is truly one of the best...they are unique and stand out in the crowd with some solid options. I had a serious scone aversion before this place, but after their garlic confit special, faith was restored and now am officially a convert! Marzipan scone, earl grey, maple...I'll take them all! You should also seriously consider a slice of coffee cake (HUGE) and a savory slice of quiche. Anything special is good, the sweet potato cream puff comes to mind first. This spot is so cute but the food is very hit or miss. The sun-dried tomato, kale, and feta quiche ($5) is delicious, very soft and rich, and exactly the way I like it. The pastry crust is a bit thick and dry but that can be forgiven! The chocolate chip cookie ($3) is also good--lots of chocolate, soft in the middle with nice crispy edges. A little pricey for its size and could use more salt scattered on top but good flavor. Now the bad: I thought the short rib samsa ($5) sounded delicious. Unfortunately, the beef was fatty and extremely salty! At first I thought maybe it was the chimichurri influencing my taste buds but no, the meat itself was way oversalted. I did let the staff know but they didn't seem to care. The pastry itself is also not that great, kinda tough. I also tried the rugelach and the dough, especially in the middle, is quite dry. I've had way better rugelach so I really can't recommend theirs. Really wanted to love this bakeshop and everything looks great but with only 50% hits, idk that I can give it more than three stars. read more

I had heard this was a really good place from some friends. This popped up since I had moved out of PVD, so I had to stop by. It certainly didn't disappoint! The shop has a super cool look to it and feels like it just fits the area. The staff was great, super-friendly and very welcoming. My wife got the Maple Brown Sugar Latte, which she really likes. We also got a few pastries while we were there. The Chocolate Chip Scone was LOADED with chips. It had great flavor and was super tasty. The Kouign-amann special was lights out. The lemon curd added so much to this already great treat. We ate the Peanut Butter and Jelly cookie on the way back to Jersey. The bagel was piping hot and was perfect for scooping up the sides. I also had one of their chocolate chip cookies and it was delicious. Wowww!! The desserts here are incredible! I can see why they're gaining in popularity so quickly. I purchased 3 desserts and they were all massive in size and high in quality. I've been seeing their huge coffee cake bricks ($5) on YouTube and Instagram so that was an obvious choice. Not one part was dry and the crumb topping was perfection. I think it weighed about 1 pound. Their apple crumb muffin ($4) had deep flavor and this crumble topping had a slight crunch to it. Very good. The chocolate scone ($3.75) was huge, moist and loaded with chocolate chips. Everything had great flavor and on the size and quality of their food, the value is fantastic. I'd gotta go back there ASAP and try more of their desserts. read more

I enjoyed the potato knish. I went back another day to buy another one and they were out. I went back a second time to buy one and they were out. Will I try a third time? Maybe. I don't like having to make an appointment to buy a knish. Staff was not particularly cheerful nor did they seem troubled about the state of the knish inventory. I was there only to pick up a knish, but the place seems kind of dreary - don't know if I'd be too eager to eat there. Oh. And what's up with the black and white cookie? The frosting is really a glaze and should be shiny. This is a solved problem. Just go watch Melissa Clark's video about how to make them. If you want, I'll bring you some examples. If your whole enterprise is based on baked goods, how can you not strive to make them world class? read more

This place is great!! Chill atmosphere, delicious pastries & great lattes! I got the smaller Jerusalem Bagel (had to ask for the sides like I had seen in other photos), peanut butter & jelly cookie, 2 chocolate rugelah, and a peppermint mocha latte. The bagel was very good! It has honey and sesame seeds, so a little sticky and messy (I ended up eating it over my sink so I didn't make too big of a mess), so might nit be something that you'd want to grab to eat in your car. The dipping oil and spices were so delicious with it! That peanut butter and jelly cookie though.... I am still having dreams about it. It was a soft-baked peanut butter cookie with jelly in the middle section. The jelly kept it soft and it was so amazingly delicious. Dangerous even. My latte was brewed to perfection and the rugelah was yum. Everything was stupendous. Will definitely be back!! read more

This is a clean and friendly bakeshop. They served our pastries on pretty little plates and didn't bat an eye when we asked if our pastries could be heated up. Dropped by one morning & very excited for this new cafe addition to Providence. They've been operating as a pop-up for a little while through PVDonuts and just opened their own store front. A self described "Jew~ish" bakery and cafe, they sell delicious baked goods and coffee. No set menu, which makes for an exciting concept--you will not know exactly what you will get when you arrive but you can trust that it will be good. They have a combination of sweets and savory. I got a chocolate chip scone & coffee cake, which I cannot recommend enough. The chocolate chip scone is 85% melty chocolate chips. It is soft, tender, and complete with crisp crumbly edges, perfectly topped with turbinado sugar. The coffee cake is a THICK slice with a crisp streusel and a thick cinnamon sugar middle layer. Other items that they had available that morning: honey cake, Jerusalem bagels, hamantaschen, apple and pumpkin pastries, rainbow cookies, and a savory quiche. Since they open at 7am, this was the perfect place to drop by before work. My Friday was made so much better having a box of their baked goods. I foresee myself making more Friday detours to buy myself some end-of-the-week celebratory pastries. read more

Oak is not only my favorite bakery and cafe in providence, it is probably one of my favorite bakeries EVER (and I've been to a LOT in many cities around the world). Their scones are heavenly and if they have a gingerbread flavored item you must get it. Cinnamon rolls are also insane, particularly their cinnamon roll specials. They also have the best dirty chai of all time. And to top it off the service is incredibly friendly and fun! I couldn't recommend this place more. Delicious! Pricey, but you're getting a solid value. Everything is very big! And fresh and delicious! I wish there was more ham in the ham and cheese scone. I didn't really notice the ham at all and the 10 ounce chubby style cup did not fit right in my cup holder it disappeared into it. And was just a little awkward to hold. The milks aren't out. The first thing I noticed when I walked in were the pink touches around the place--from the chairs to the coffee lids. Secondly it was very clean and between the indoor and outdoor space, there's a lot of seating. We ordered a garlic and rosemary scone as well as the Jerusalem bagel (long one). Apparently the difference between the round and long one is that the round one has molasses so it's a bit sweeter. I absolutely loved the scone. It had the consistency of a biscuit, with a crumbly and firmer outside but a soft inside. You could really taste both the garlic and rosemary so I was super happy about that; especially the garlic. I was expecting a bit more from the Jerusalem bagel but I was still very happy with it. It is a bit messy with all the sesame seeds so I wouldn't recommend to have it as a "drive to work snack." I liked the three dipping options, and it was new to me since I'm just used to using cream cheese only. I would recommend sharing a bagel if you're with someone else or a group as it is very filling. I loved how they had free coffee grounds at the entrance to use for compost/gardening. Every little way of conserving resources and helping the planet is awesome. The staff is very friendly and patient (we were a bit indecisive with our order). There's also plenty of street parking is any direction. read more

Oak Bakeshop took over a previous corner store, a source for cheap food and services for the community. Now what's left is the most expensive cafe on all of the east side. $7 cinnamon rolls, $3.25 for mini cookies, etc... I thought Seven Stars was ridiculous! It's quality is mediocre at best. The only silver lining was the drink prices seemed fair. Providence Bagel, Silver Star, and other nearby bakeries are half the cost and double the portion size. read more

This place is awesome. I've checked this place out over a couple of days during their soft opening. It was a welcome surprise to see this cute place pop up on the corner of Cypress and Camp. The hamantaschen are absolutely a highlight. Not too sweet, perfectly done. Another highlight are the black and white cookies which are better than many I've had living in NYC. The rainbow cookies, rugelach and chocolate chip cookies are also excellent. I've eaten a lot of babka in my life and the chocolate babka was probably in the top 3 that I've had. The quiche is perfectly light and buttery, don't skip it. I wish they had more savory options! I've had and very much enjoyed their chai and matcha lattes. Still waiting to try something here that I DON'T like. The service is also great! Everyone in the front of the house has been friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Only real negatives about the place is that there isn't much parking, and they can sell out early in the day. read more

The obvious hurdle (as seen in some other reviews) is the price of the pastries at Oak. That being said knowing the team behind the shop (PVDonuts) and the quality of the ingredients and time that goes into their treats, I think it helps justify it. If you want a cheaper pastry there are plenty of options around PVD but if you want to treat yo self a bit every now and then Oak is a great option. The muffins and cookies are fantastic and the coffee selection is top notch with top of the line espresso equipment. I've only been a couple times but always greeted with friendly service and fresh, delicious baked goods. Knowing everything is painstakingly made probably starting at god knows what time makes the prices much easier to understand. And hey with food and treats this good I'm happy to shell out a few extra $$$ read more

I have been a huge fan of Oak Bakeshop since they opened. Oak has amazing scones, ham and cheese being my all time favorite! It is worth stopping by just to get one of their signature PB&J and Oatmeal Raisinette cookies- both are amazing! Their coffee cake is also extremely tasty. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and fast! The only request I have for Oak bakery is to separate any baked items with a strong smell from the other baked items. I visited recently and my cookies, chocolate chip scone, and coffee cake tasted like rosemary because they were kept in the same case as the rosemary scones- unfortunately they were inedible. I live dangerously close to this new bakery so have tried it out on several occasions! I have tried a variety of sweet and savory options including challah, breakfast sandwiches, scones, cinnamon rolls, rugelach, and Jerusalem bagels. Everything has been good and some things have been great, but the prices feel a bit steep. If you want to sit and enjoy the sitting space is fairly limited although we have managed to grab a window seat on a weekday before. I appreciate that they are still learning and adapting and I appreciate that they have made real changes based on customer feedback! I tried the chai at the soft opening and was disappointed but tried it again recently after changes and it's much better! Given the cost and lack of tea options though, I think this will stay more of a special treat place and I will frequent other bakeries more often. read more

My mom had seen this bakery featured in Yankee magazine so we decided to visit. It's an adorable looking bakery, very clean and organized inside, so we were excited to try. I got a cinnamon bun, mom got a few rugelach, and we got a peanut butter and jelly cookie to share. I should have asked, but the cinnamon roll had nuts (at least, I think so...). It was just not great. The filling tasted like plain cinnamon- not the usual sugary buttery swirl of delicious cinnamon you'd expect. The roll was dry and the cream cheese icing felt to heavy in a greasy way. The rugelach weren't the best texture or flavor and were also slightly greasy while still being dry inside. The cookie was the best of the things we tried. It was average but nothing that would have me going back here. It seems popular and we wanted to like it because it's so cute. Service was fast and friendly. Sadly, this didn't live up to our expectations and I won't be visiting again. read more

This is a hard review to write. How much criticizing is nitpicking? Or maybe just disappointment? The neighborhood rumor was we'd be getting a Jewish bakery and instead we get a disjointed café concept. The food is expensive for Camp St. There's no hedging around that. As others have mentioned, Seven Stars actually feels affordable. They do offer challah on the weekends which is nice but everyone seems to share pictures of the simit the most because the novelty of thin long bagels. (And the simit is probably their best option. It's a Turkish bread that's a cousin to the bagel and I seriously enjoyed dragging pieces through the little plate of oil, yogurt and spice) Real bagels would've been nice though. RI doesn't have a place that offers good bagels. This place is definitely not a bakery you'd find in New York and, for a place that just opened, they seem strangely invested in expanding their branded merchandise wall. I feel this shows where the owner's priorities really are. It's not about a solid food concept so much as merchandise with coffee on the side. Maybe focus less on tshirts? Some other troubling signs is they've already reduced days they're open and are changing up the menu. I gave this place a couple chances but I don't feel it's special enough to draw me back. Not when there's better hours and consistency elsewhere in Providence. read more

First, I feel a little torn about giving a mediocre star rating, because I love the concept and I applaud the effort...but results matter, enthusiasm matters, front of house matters, engagement with new customers matters. Aloof, sullen staff for a new venture is not a great way to introduce yourself to a neighborhood and location like the one they've chosen. Yes, it's expensive. The portions on certain items are too small for the prices, sorry. IMO, more savory items would be ideal, it would further diversify the offerings and give those of us who aren't always looking for desserts to go in. I recommend engaging new customers fully, make them feel welcome, it shouldn't be like pulling teeth to find out what each item is behind the glass. Keep trying, I hope this business really succeeds and expands its hours of operation. Very good borek! read more
