This is a hard review to write. How much criticizing is nitpicking? Or maybe just disappointment? The neighborhood rumor was we'd be getting a Jewish bakery and instead we get a disjointed café concept. The food is expensive for Camp St. There's no hedging around that. As others have mentioned, Seven Stars actually feels affordable. They do offer challah on the weekends which is nice but everyone seems to share pictures of the simit the most because the novelty of thin long bagels. (And the simit is probably their best option. It's a Turkish bread that's a cousin to the bagel and I seriously enjoyed dragging pieces through the little plate of oil, yogurt and spice) Real bagels would've been nice though. RI doesn't have a place that offers good bagels. This place is definitely not a bakery you'd find in New York and, for a place that just opened, they seem strangely invested in expanding their branded merchandise wall. I feel this shows where the owner's priorities really are. It's not about a solid food concept so much as merchandise with coffee on the side. Maybe focus less on tshirts? Some other troubling signs is they've already reduced days they're open and are changing up the menu. I gave this place a couple chances but I don't feel it's special enough to draw me back. First, I feel a little torn about giving a mediocre star rating, because I love the concept and I applaud the effort...but results matter, enthusiasm matters, front of house matters, engagement with new customers matters. Aloof, sullen staff for a new venture is not a great way to introduce yourself to a neighborhood and location like the one they've chosen. Yes, it's expensive. The portions on certain items are too small for the prices, sorry. IMO, more savory items would be ideal, it would further diversify the offerings and give those of us who aren't always looking for desserts to go in. I recommend engaging new customers fully, make them feel welcome, it shouldn't be like pulling teeth to find out what each item is behind the glass. Having Seven Stars seem affordable doesn't feel like a smart business model. I mean, $6 for a slice of honey loaf? I was really hoping that Oak was going to be a more traditional (and affordable) Jewish bakery given the neighborhood that it is located in. Instead, we have a millenial pink cafe with a menu of offerings that lack cohesion. Not to reference Seven Stars again, but the sticky buns look very similar. Not that they own sticky buns either but that's kinda the only shop around here you see them at. The hamantash are delicious. I wanted to try the babka but couldn't justify the cost. All in all, I wanted to buy much more but settled for just a bite. read more

The most chocolate chips I have ever seen in a scone before. The coffee cake was so flavorful and such a big piece too. The oat milk latte was great, and I am excited to go back and try other coffees too. The staff are sweet and friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. read more

I'd give Oak Bakeshop a solid 4.5 stars, so I'll round up to 5. Cute little spot with easy street parking. I arrived around 10am and there were plenty of options to choose from- cookies, pastries, loaf slices, etc. it was nice that there were a few smaller/cheaper options if you just want a little something with your coffee. I got a cinnamon honey iced latte, which was great, though messy because it was overfilled. I also got a rugelach, chocolate chip cookie, black and white cookie, and cinnamon bun. The rugelach and cookies were all delicious and lived up to expectations. I especially loved the touch of salt on the chocolate chip cookie and how packed with chocolate it was. The cinnamon roll was really good as well, but a little denser than I would have liked. I liked that it wasn't overly sweet and had lots of cinnamon filling. I'm nit picking, but think the icing could have used more flavor, though. It tasted very buttery, like maybe there wasn't quite enough cream cheese. Overall it seems like you really can't go wrong here. I look forward to coming back and trying some of their other offerings! read more

I don't write many reviews but had to for this location. I was reluctant about how their desserts would taste because of my experience with their pastries added to their donuts at PVDonuts. Usually when they have a special and add a pastry on a donut, it's always so disappointing and dry, BUT I stand corrected. I can wholeheartedly say that everything I've tried have been some of the best I've had. Sea salt chocolate chip cookies (regular ones, not the gluten free) - best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. I was never even a chocolate chip cookie fan. Now have to get it every visit. Cinnamon buns - room temp or microwaved incredible. Idk how they do it, but moist all around. Not one single dry spot. I've tried Cinnabons middle cinnamon buns and they're still dry!!! Pecan buns - incredible. Think the dough is same as cinnamon buns. I prefer it over seven stars by far but wish they made the pecan pieces small like seven stars. Bc the pecans are whole, it's harder to bite and kind of dry up in a weird way. Scones - jalapeño and chocolate chip. Soooo moist on the inside and crispy on the out. Not sure if this is more of a biscuit, but either way, one of the best scones/biscuits I've had. Soooo flavorful and moist!!!!! Now the price, at first I thought it was kind of pricey but then realized they're actually incredibly fair prices. Not only are the pastries huge, but they are not stingy at all with their ingredients. E.g, scones - filled to the brim with jalapeños and chocolate chips (in a good way) - you don't normally find that. Pecan - they are absolutely not stingy on the pecans and pecans are expensive. I guess this doesn't shock me bc their sister donut shop (PVDonuts) are one of the few donut places that actually fill the entire donut instead of putting a little dot. Definitely worth your money. Can't wait to try more! Glad I haven't seen any appropriation of middle eastern things and saw a Greek spiral that I want to try. Keep in mind, if you're Jewish, it's not kosher. I'm Muslim, was hoping it would be kosher since Jewish people don't eat pork but have to be a bit cautious with what I choose. Everything is clearly titled though. Staff is nice too. read more

I am so torn because the bakery was needed for the area. But, been there three times first time great. Second and third time not so much. The iced coffee was mostly ice and the coffee cake was way too sweet. I don't mind paying for quality but they missed the mark. Plus, no bathroom for a place that serves coffee was bizarre. I will start by saying I am not a huge sweets eater, so I'm not often won over by cookies or brownies. The food that comes out of oak bake shop is next level amazing. The cookies and brownies are delicious, and all of the other treats I've had here are worth every single calorie. The Jerusalem bagel is a bit sweet, a bit savory, and very light. The quiche had so many levels of flavor, it was exquisite. I've seen some people post about the food cost, being high. Went on a weekday morning and found parking down the street. Many items were offered and they all appeared fresh. Tried the crumb cake and jalapeño scone. Both were delicious. Crumb cake has a crumb layer between cake and generous crumbs on top. It was very flavorful. Jalapeño scone was packed with jalapeños and had a terrific kick. Both items were HUGE and could each be split for two or enjoyed over two days. Prices were fair given quality and size. I also ordered a chai latte with oat milk. It was tasty but warm, not hot. Staff were very friendly. It's an easy in/out set-up and not an overly Gen Z vibe which this aging millennial appreciates. read more

Overall, oak is a great addition to the neighborhood. But they have a ways to go before there at the level of seven stars to be honest. First of all, they have an online order ahead portal, which is great, but they don't have any pick up shelving for online orders or a sign to tell you where to go to pick up your order, so you have to either get in line or go to the cashier ahead of everyone in line to ask about your pick up order, a douche move that results in several stinkeyes from people in line. They also made the coffee at point of pickup, which defeats the purpose of order ahead. Their baked goods are good, but they tend to be heavy and a little on the greasy side. I've discovered that there is actually such a thing as too much butter. but overall they're good and they do offer some seasonal Jewish items which I appreciate. you should definitely check it out but not sure about whether it's worth it to order online read more

What a great addition to the East side community! It took the place of a run down corner store, and the owners have truly transformed an eye sore into a quaint, foodie bake shop. Their cinnamon buns are to die for, and if you like savory, try their quiches. My fiancé is a big fan of their cookies, and I'm sure we'll find quite a few more favorites once they get fully established. They only just opened, and I can't wait to see where they go from here. 10/10 recommend read more

Without a doubt some of the best baked goods in the biz. I had their treats at a pop up at PVDonuts around a year ago and bought almost one of everything. I remember getting the flourless chocolate cake and thinking: this is probably going to be just okay, but I didn't wait in line with my newborn baby for nothing, gotta try it all. When I say it was the best chocolate cake I've ever had, mindblown! I was waiting with anticipation for their brick and mortar to open up. Disappointed twice. I really wanted to like this place but both times I've struggled to find something I wanted to eat. I prefer savory pastries (which they advertise as having) and the first time I went they only had one option, which were these sesame-covered things which were just OK, a bit stale tasting. They said come back another time closer to lunch time. When I did another day (around 11:30) all they basically had was banana bread, brownies and tiny little hamentashen for $2.50 each! I asked if they had anything else and they basically said, "if you want more choice you are going to have to come early in the morning." I asked if they had anything else being baked (I saw trays being cooled), she basically said no you have to come back another day. I realize trying to calculate how much to bake can be a challenge, but basically being yelled at twice for asking for something that they advertise is not a friendly business practice. Maybe I'll come back in a year, hopefully they've worked out the kinks by then, but I wouldn't recommend going now (unless you like expensive banana bread). read more

First thing I want to say is that the service is absolutely lovely, the workers are friendly and quick to complete your order. Second thing, the prices at this cafe are absolutely unaffordable, they charge a whole extra dollar for any add ons to their already overpriced coffee and espresso drinks. If you want a a drink and a pastry you're spending at least $20 a visit. I could rationalize the premium cost if it was some sort of nonprofit or if the workers were paid generously but I know the folks at the counter are only making $13 an hour. I hesitate returning knowing that the people who own this café already own another overpriced Providence bakery, The high prices are not because it is a new business that needs to compensate for low profits as they start out, with the prices so high and knowing the low pay of the workers I feel the need to tip generously when it should be on the business owners to ensure a livable wage for their workers, not the customer who they are already overcharging. read more
