This course was inexpensive, but you get what you paid for. Mostly hard pan fairways and other areas that were swampy. Tee boxes were not level were out tee markers were placed. Greens were in good condition but slow which made them difficult to putt. Overall nice layout just needs a bit more maintenance and drainage. read more

Clubhouse staff was very friendly. The course was well manicured and the greens were in good shape (my opinion). The lady driving the beverage cart was very friendly and made regular rounds to provide refreshments. I enjoyed the outing and will play there again. Tee times were full but no out of the ordinary "pace of play" issues for my group. This is a good $22 Groupon muni course. Play was a bit slow but again it was $22. Cafe was closed so no food. Although they promote a full bar, it's cans of beer and mini bottles of Jack, Titos, etc.. again the price was right for Jack Daniels, $4 I believe. 4 beers on tap but no where to sit and enjoy a beverage other than taking it to your cart. Course was a bit wet even though it's hasn't rained in at least a week. Greens rolled pretty good to tell you the truth but the tee boxes were a mess. Loaded with leaves and divots. Friendly staff, no cart girl. Good place to hack the ball around with the kids or your buddy that hasn't played in a few years. read more

The course was closed for an overhaul last summer and reopened in October. The greens are now some of the best in the north Dallas area and the tee boxes are in great shape. Some relatively small investment items could really make a difference. They need a loud speaker system to announce who is on the #1 tee. There is constant flooding by the pavilion. Looks terrible. The practice pitching area has no room in which to pitch. Other than these detractors, the course has come a long way and is now one of the better municipal courses in the area. read more

The course condition is what you expect from a municipal golf course, but the service reminds me of the good west Texas kindness I grew up with, unlike many of the courses around here that have learned they can just be as rude as they want and still make money because golf is currently in demand. I noticed the cashier extend kindness to a man because it was his father's birthday. The marshal stopped me to ask if I was a golf coach (I am) and we talked for a bit and he was kind and helpful. Best Public Golf in McKinney/Allen area I have played here several times. The staff and the recently updated facilities are fantastic (fancy new carts too). This is probably my favorite public golf course in Mckinney. Nothing fancy but they keep the course maintained and greens are well taken care of. This is turning into a beautiful course, with the changes of an experienced designer. The addition to several hundred trees is transforming this course from a field to a P.G.A. course After experiencing some of the amenities, I went to try the Flame grilled burger that I have gotten at Golf Shacks at other places. The burger was O.K., didn't have that special flavor that brings out memories from my youth. It was a good burger, but the flame broiled part didn't translate through. A Flame Grilled Burger needs to have a Flame grilled Char and flavor to it. This isn't the best burger I have ever had, Not even close! The Fries were under cooked. and soggy. The Dressings on the burger were great. Just missing the Flame grilled taste. TURN UP THE GAS ON THE GRILL! you are saving cost on the gas but sacrificing the flavor available from our grill. read more

This rating takes into account the type of course I am reviewing. (i.e. a 4 star rating for a mid-price range golf course). My buddies and I got a sweet golfnow.com price of just $16 bucks to play. Will definitely return for future promotions. For the course it's self, i would say 80 percent of the holes are wide open. Not much trouble to get into. But....the remaining 20 percent were uncharacteristically difficult. Being forced to hit over a gorge, or the green completely surrounded by water on the back side. A few water hazards here and there. So all in all, an enjoyable course to play with the occasional challenge. read more

Honestly, I've played Oak Hollow most of my life growing up but lately it's just been terrible. When going to the first tee box in a cart with my group at 12:10. The starter came over and told me to return my cart because it was another gentleman's. I explained that the gentleman was in my group and I simply grabbed the cart because I was there first and checked in first. He added how it was his course and his rules and kicked me out of my cart to give to another gentleman. The whole thing was childish and left a bad taste in my mouth which ruined the already sub par golf course for me. Never going back read more

Played here this afternoon. The course had booked a tournament for early afternoon, but didn't leave enough space between the tournament and regular play. It took us almost 3 hours to play 7 holes before we called it a day. I was very unhappy, but when we (me and my buddy) went in and asked to speak with a manager, the lady working the counter was very understanding and refunded our round. Based on other reviews (here and Golfnow) it looks like today was an outlier in terms of pace of play, so I would be willing to give them another shot. The course itself was in good shape, and as I said Teisha was very understanding. Overall, I would certainly come back, but would call ahead to see what they have scheduled the rest of the day before booking. If I had played this course on a day that was more open, it would have gotten 5 stars. Good course for the price we (originally) paid. read more

This has more to do with the interaction with staff than the quality of the course. The course, itself, is acceptable. We were greeted by the marshal and was asked to tee off as quickly as possible, as there was a "tournament" behind us. Seems like the tournament was a 4-some that just didn't want to wait until their tee time. We teed off before our tee time, played behind a group of high school students and another 4-some... but somehow, the group behind us kept complaining about our slow play- finished the round in 3hrs and 35 minutes... they had the marshal harass us- but as he was speaking to us on the 14th green, I pointed out to him that the group in front of us was still on the 15th tee... he still couldn't grasp what was happening and kept telling us we needed to pick up our pace. I have spent my last penny, dollar, gas and time trying to give this course and it's staff the benefit of the doubt. I live in McKinney and I like to endorse businesses in my area. However this was my last time. I realize it's a public course and you get what you pay for but this place seems to get worse and worse. It reminds me of the other course (fairways of Mckinney) before they went out of business. The last time I went there I asked the guy if I could have the rate on the internet (which I've done in the past and it was never a problem). He told me to book it through the internet. I tried to do it on my phone, wifi had issues. There was NO WAY I was going to pay $50 to play this course...seriously?!?! You would think they wanted the business. After I couldn't get confirmation of the booked tee time I finally left. Today I go there, booked it through golf now, 3:56pm tee time. Got there a little early checked in paid for my round and for a small bucket. There were loads of ppl standing around outside. On my way to the ball machine one of the guys standing around said they had a 3:00 tee time and still have not gone off as there are no carts. Ok this happens but it's 3:45 so I quickly realized I was not going to get off at my tee time and didn't want to wait. I literally turned back around, maybe 5 minutes later, and asked for a refund and advised the guy that he should let ppl know this and give them the option of maybe not playing due to the backlog. He confirmed the cart issue but REFUSED to refund me my $$. He kept saying " he couldn't do that" WHAT ?!?!! I literally just paid you!!!! He wanted to give me a "rain check" I declined as I vowed never to come back to this place because it is SO disorganized. He still refused to refund me!!!! Following up with management tomorrow and they probably won't care. #disgusted Update Steve Clayton the manager responded to me immediately. I've met him before and he is truly a nice guy and wants to make this right. He asked me to follow up with him in the morning and thanked me for letting him know. read more

This is the worst golf course I have ever played. I went and played by myself today and it took two hours and ten minutes to play six holes. I can play eighteen holes in less than three hours on a real course. There is zero management on tee times and group play. This is now my home course. It has really come back and in good shape. The greens are fast and the grass on the fairways is improving. It is just enough challenge without being too hard. I have played many other courses in the Plano, Richardson and Allen and this is my favorite. Keep up the good work. read more

I was there recently and had an awesome experience from A-Z I did not schedule a tee time and I had to wait only about 20 minutes to get going. What a pleasant surprise and big improvements. Oak Hollow is gem of a public course in the DFW area, McKinney. If you were disappointed in the past you should put this course back on your list of excellently improved municipal courses. Management is friendly and has brought Oak Hollow back better than ever before. Good grooming of tees and fairways, and an excellent 19th hole in a relaxed club setting has done wonders for the club. Blue tees will challenge 4-10 handicaps and white tees will sharpen 10 and up; signature holes will challenge anyone. The price is right and it is rarely crowded to the point of frustration. Put it back on your rotation, it's well worth it to visit again. read more

Pro shop closed before sun was down, putting a few groups of players out of luck because we needed our belongings from inside, which is very inconvenient and unprofessional. I live in Plano and always willing to drive out to Oak Hollow for a round. It's really in great shape for this time of year. I've played on a few courses that are really burnt up, but not this one. I usually shop for a discount coupon to play this course which makes it affordable for the drive. Only negative about this course is, it's sloooooow play. Absolutely awful hospitality by everyone. Guy in the club house was a dick. Called 4 times and was put on hold each time. Ended up being hung up on multiple of time. Eventually got to the tee box and was asked to move to the back of the line because I "skipped everyone in line", not knowing that I had to check in with the starter. Wouldn't have cared if he would of came up politely and told me next time I needed to check in. But he was an absolute dick, told me I should just get my money back. So that's what I did. Greens were fantastic all three times I've player there last fall and this spring. Being from Boston and working as a weekend ranger at a muni, this course is well worth a round. read more
