The restaurant is within walking distance of downtown hotels, so I enjoyed the walk over while taking in a little of the city. As soon as I walked in, I loved the atmosphere. It has a classic old school feel with lots of history, photos of celebrities who've dined there over the years, a beautiful bar, and a timeless charm that's hard to find these days. I kept it simple and ordered the chef's seafood special, and wow...it completely caught me by surprise. It reminded me a little of crawfish étouffée, but with more seafood and its own unique flavor. It's hard to describe, but it was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals I had during my trip. The drinks were excellent too (sorry, no pictures because I was too busy enjoying them), and the service was friendly from start to finish. Business trips don't always come with memorable meals, but this one definitely did. The next time I'm in Portland, Jake's will be one of my first stops.

Overall the staff are welcoming. Attentive to large party orders. The food is good and nice menu of options from pizzas, pastas, salads and if you're in the mood, a good burger. I especially like the lamb lasagna. The bar makes average drinks. Stick with your standards and they do ok or go for a lovely Italian wine.
