Impromptu stop in Hood River yesterday and decided to grab a bite at this corner pub. Menu seemed decent with burgers, fish n chips, salads and nachos. We decided on nachos and the fish tacos. I don't know why but they put tajin on the nachos! At first I thought they used a vinegar based salsa but no looking closely it had a generous sprinkling of tajin. The nachos were sour and just so off tasting. Service was fine, outdoor seating for sun and dogs available. The menu doesn't indicate that they put tajin on their nachos. To be fair, we didn't order, the waitress/bartender didn't seem interested in us, as we waited at the counter to order, she said, eventually, I'll be with you in a minute, then went back to what she was doing. There was only 2 other people in the place, so not sure what it was, but she abandoned it, and showed some actual energy when our grandson went to look at the table games. Telling us that he was not allowed to touch them, liquor license rules etc. That's definitely not her fault, but she went back to what she was doing, and we left. We went to Hood River for the day and wanted a cocktail. We saw this place and walked over. Oh boy, this place was sad. Didn't like the "lack of love" look of the food coming out and overall place was dirty... so we decided to not order food. I ordered a margarita and it was horrible! It tasted like it was made with cheap mixer and overly tart sour lime flavor. Beer wasn't cold enough. Sat outside on the patio and it too was dirty! My boyfriend told me not to use the bathroom as there was fecal matter all over the toilet. I think this place could have potential, but it needs to be "loved" and fixed up. Wont be back. read more

We just kind of ended up in the area and were really hungry so thought we'd stop here. The service is really lacking. So rude! They have handwritten menus up with no info about the items and no prices. Really? You don't think people might want to know the prices? Sorry you're so put out when we ask how much for the items we're considering ordering. At that it was quite overpriced. We just had to hope the food would be worth it. The outdoor seating was decent and the beer was fine. Pulled pork nachos were okay. Nothing special for sure. I've had much better at half the price. Same with the pulled pork sandwich. While walking around Hood River I was looking for a local beer and something to snack on. I stumbled upon this place and decided to drop in. I was surprised to see they had fried Cheese Curds on the menu which was awesome! I was torn between those curds and the nachos. I went with the curds because, when will I find curds again. I've never thought highly of this place but after giving it chances over the last 15ish years, no thank you. The smell of grease that sticks to your clothes has not gotten better in the least. Why is ventilation hard? You can tell the owner gives zero thought to the bar, the "games" you can play are broken, missing pieces, dirty, etc. And $20 for a G&T and a Jim Beam? This is the second time I've been to this pub. The first time found it by accident - just walking around unable to find an eatery in downtown Hood River that wasn't overwhelmingly busy. Today the Mrs and I went to it directly on our excursion from Portland. I was greeted by a friendly, personable bartender who gave us ample time to order. She was knowledgeable and accommodating. Having been a regular at a local pub near my house I can assure you that pub dining is NOT fine dining - it's actually homegrown goodness, generally limited but oh so delicious. I had the bangers and mash and was more than happy with my choice. The wife had the fish tacos - they looked wonderful and exceeded her expectations. We were offered a free beverage 'cause of an overpour and it was very generous but declined 'cause the ale and food we ordered was just the right amount. I really liked that we were able to pay and tip before our meal was served. So many times places take FOREVER to bring you the check and then you have to wait FOREVER to get it back. Paying and tipping ahead of time makes sense. We loved the outdoor patio - roomy and comfortable; other patrons had brought their fuzzy friends whom we got to pet while waiting for our grub. Very eclectic ambiance, lots of seating options and friendly service. Honestly, if more eateries in Hood River were like the Oak Street Pub we'd have a harder time deciding where to eat. Very cool emo hipster pub! Beer was flat and almost room temp. Green "salad" was less-than-fresh sliced tomato and sliced onion (cut for hamburgers) on shredded lettuce (the worst salad I've had in 17 months, but worked with emo theme!). Fish tacos were okay. Sitting outside was great. The guy working there was believably sad and didn't greet me for three minutes as he stood behind the counter slowly doing other things. We have come by this place a number of times and had great beers or drinks. I like the indoor atmosphere in the winter and the outdoor seating is great for hanging out in the summer. We ordered food for the first time on our last visit. It was not good. My wife's fish tacos were ok. The fried fish was decent but there was a little too much sauce and pretty chunky cabbage. I had pork tacos. The pork tasted unseasoned. There was so much juice in the bottom of my paper tray that the tortilla fell apart. Fork only. Chunky cabbage, low flavor salsa. Cilantro forward is how I would describe the overall flavor of these tacos. Cool place, good beers and drinks, good hangout. My advice to the cooks: visit the local taco trucks and taquerias and riff on what they do because this was not good. read more

I'm not an idiot, or so I'd like to think. The pork was dry and just tasted funky, not right. I returned the pork tacos & the server got defensive. I told her they were dry & didn't taste right & she argued with me instead of just taking them back. she said she had just eaten some & they were smoked & were supposed to be dry? Yeah.. no. After spending a fantastic day wine tasting with friends, we enjoyed an amazing meal at Romul's (check their Yelp) we decided to get an after dinner drink at the Oak Street Pub. Mind you, I should have know better because we tried to go there last year also with similar results. From the moment we entered the pub, the bartender, Riley, didn't even acknowledge us despite standing there by himself watching TV. Our friends ordered drinks and found a spot to sit by the Foosball table. There was only 1 other couple there at the time and they were over on the North side of the building. My husband and I went to order our drinks, we decided we would like to play foosball so my husband asked Riley how it works. He was the biggest smartass ever!! Not only was he rude, he made an unnecessary comment about how to play foosball. Welcomed to a bartender texting on her phone. I had to ask if I needed to be seated or if I seat myself after an awkward amount of time just standing there. You pay at the counter before you get a seat or are served which left me awkwardly uncomfortable about leaving a tip; which I chose not to given the welcome I received. The person cashing me out demanded I write the total which made me even more uncomfortable about the tip; typically if u sign the receipt with the amount you so t have to write a total it's unspoken that you're not tipping. Of course I'd leave cash after if the experience changed and the food as amazing but no way at this point. I chose to sit outside and watched multiple people come in and proceed with the same awkward dance of not being greeted timely. I ordered the fish tacos. They were decent although very messy. Fish is definitely from a box but wasn't super greasy so that was nice. Way too much cabbage and the dressing tasted like your average fancy ranch dressing.
