That said, a little curating and information goes a long way. I understand that the planes are for the most part not stationary, but placing an informational plaque or sign by each plane, stating what it is, when built, and the significance of its type and that specific plane would be a tremendous help, and make any visit more interesting. I have basic and vague knowledge of the different planes; my wife has none. The downloaded audio tour was way lacking and many of the numbered items in the museum were off. And I'd rather just read a sign near an item then fumble around for the right audio track and then have to listen to it. And so the war at home (sic) exhibit was a little slapdash too. Sometimes less is more. There are exhibits of a period livingroom, kitchen, laundry room, etc. But they cram so many period items into each room, it's very unrealistic in terms of giving you a taste of what life was like then. It was as if a collector - or hoarder - filled each room with stuff. Just have the rooms decorated with the items one may have had, and perhaps some explanations of maybe how long one had to work to buy a radio or phonograph, etc. I get it; they are probably doing the best they can with a limited budget. I respect that. But being there are no docents readily available, and even if there were, informative signs near each plane, and maybe a history of the jeep - besides the audio - would make ones visit so much more fulfilling.

Lots of people had the same idea judging from the line to get I just to park- they were asking fir donations which slowed the flow . More lines at the entrance fir admission where there was another Subaru in all fir good cause. And in exchange a really cute burlap goodie bag filled w treats! I'd like to see next years event have more people working parking and admission to cut down on wait and be more organized. There were many vendors represented and lots of rescue organizations which was great to see several no. Profits operating some food vendors: pizza, hot dogs even doggie ice cream. Was a great chance to meet some new dog centered providers that I didn't know about and might need . The best part was we got to reconnect with the group that brought us our rescue dogs. That's what the day was about. Making new friends and sharing our love of dogs!

Dwyer stadium is in the same spot, but it had dramatically changed as a result of major renovations. I still recognized the basic structure, but it no longer has wooden grand stands. Knowing there had also been rumors early on in 2016 about the Muckdogs being sold/moved, I figured this year would be an opportune time to get to a Muckdogs game. There's no page available for Dwyer Stadium itself, so this review encompasses the overall experience. In terms of getting to the stadium and everything, I used my GPS (since I don't really know my way around Batavia) and found the stadium easily. Parking is free and readily accessible on stadium grounds. The staff is friendly and organized, and my Will Call tickets were readily available for pick-up. The stadium itself is typical for a short-season A team, and I think I showed up for the last game of the season (Labor Day). The fact that it was the last game of the season did mean that the concession area was out of the more popular food options (including sausage sandwiches, etc), so one had to stick to the basics... but plenty of people (comparatively speaking) showed up to enjoy the game. With ticket and concession prices being so inexpensive, it's not a bad way to spend a day. When it comes to the overall experience during the game, I suppose the stadium is missing any added "oompf." The mascot, for example, was out maybe... once during the game? Walking in front of the crowd/in the stadium; however, there was no participation by the mascot, including in the between-inning games with kids from the crowd (something that's fairly normal). The games too were pretty simple, and even the staff members assisting seemed to lack some enthusiasm. The game played was enjoyable though, and it's great to see such young players and their passion for the game. In a stadium like this, I suppose it's more about getting up close to the players... and while I didn't try and get anyone's autograph this time around, it would seem the stadium layout makes it fairly simple to get to players at some point. TL;DR Very local feel. Am glad I went in 2016 so that I could check it off the "to visit" list, but it feels lacking in comparison to other stadiums I've visited, including those for other short season/single A clubs.

With the visitor panels, you begin to understand the importance of the canal and it's construction. There's also a canal boat on display. My advice is to wear hiking shoes because of all the steps and to walk along the canal.

When you walk in there is an ATM, and all of the heritage flags from the different regions of Germany. There is a big dance floor area where people can let loose and have a good time with the performers. There's a beer slide game, and a nail and hammer game. Some vendors also bring little fedoras and German flags. Giant pretzels are $11. Beers (spaten, franziskahner, etc.) is about $6 a pint, and they offer pitchers. They have German wine and blue toad hard cider as well. We also purchased food, with sauerkraut, German potato salad and bratwurst. We had a great time.

I stopped by the Erie Canal Discovery Center yesterday while I was in the Buffalo area. The site is…read morepart of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and is a fun little museum. The highlight of the center is the simulator, which begins with the audience sitting on benches listening to an actor portraying the architect behind the Flight of Five locks. He describes the canal construction process and the unique features of the Lockport portion of the canal before the screen partially retracts, leading the actor to beckon the visitors onto a mock-up of a packet boat. Once aboard, the screen closes again and a new video features one a canal worker describing the working of a lock as the video gives the impression of the boat rising. As the lock doors open, doors open in front of the boat so that visitors may step off and enter the exhibit space. Most of the exhibits are interactive, with buttons for children to push and little quizzes based on canal knowledge. There are some photographs of the canal under construction as well as a framed certificate from the Canal Collector's Office. The third floor houses the Charles Rand Penney Collection of historic Niagara County artifacts, which will be of great interest to those who enjoy local history. It is the one spot not designed primarily for children, but older children should be able to find some interest in the artifacts. After going through the museum, one can take a self-guided walking tour around Lockport by following Riley's Way: a map located in the discovery center. It's a fun place to have a day trip and a must-visit for those collection National Parks cancellation stamps.
