Both my mom and grandma had nothing but good things to say. The staff was attentive and caring. Always smiling. I wanted to specifically say that a nurse assistant named Sherri was stellar. Also Carrie , Dwayne and Jerome. Not only is it rare to find a good place like this, but to even find one good employee. Here there were many. Also my grandma couldn't stop talking about the food. Don't let this place fool you by the looks. My mom said that it looks old and that worried her at first. But it was clean and cared for. Just aging. Do consider this hospital. Shared room with shared bathroom, little privacy, often difficult to sleep and awakened at 5:30 am to make sure the night shift can get patients ready for therapy before the day shift arrives. Food generally not good; some residents order food delivered. Administrator was rude at check in after not explaining all of the facility policies to me. Discharge planner referred me to a home health agency, Amedysis, that is not in the UNC system, which is odd for a UNC hospital. This agency apparently cannot access my doctors' records re: my rehabilitation goals through UNC MyChart. If you are a UNC patient, ask lots of questions before agreeing to referral to Amedysis.

Both Kathleen and Annmarie both need to be acknowledged in this review. All I can say is Apex is very lucky to have two employees that care so much about their patients.

Unfortunately, I am updating this review because the problems have not stopped. They are still ongoing. My family has spent years documenting incidents, taking photographs, keeping written notes, and reporting concerns regarding the treatment and care of our loved one. Despite our efforts, we continue to witness neglect, lack of supervision, poor communication, and a failure to provide the level of care residents deserve. Most recently, my family member suffered a severe wound to his leg. We have photographs and documentation of his condition. Seeing a loved one experience injuries and declining care while entrusted to a facility that is supposed to protect and care for vulnerable individuals is heartbreaking and unacceptable. Families place their trust in nursing and rehabilitation facilities to provide safe, compassionate, and professional care. Our experience has been the complete opposite. No family should have to constantly worry about whether their loved one is being properly cared for, monitored, cleaned, treated, or protected from preventable harm. We will continue documenting every incident and reporting our concerns to the appropriate agencies. Residents deserve dignity, respect, and proper medical care. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this facility to anyone seeking a safe place for their loved one.

The love and care that Ken and Rosalie and their staff provided for the remainder of his life was incredible. He was safe and comfortable and all of his needs were seen to with a level of professionalism, love and compassion that never waivered. My mother was able to see him in a home-like setting and to spend time and share meals with him just like the old days., Sadly, he passed away yesterday but we want to make sure everyone knows how happy we have been with RCH from day one.

My mother was discharged to the facility from the hospital and I was hopeful that her rehabilitation time would include a safety and transparency about her care. The first red flag was that the aid instructed my mother to wear a Depend Undergarment because, "they may not get to you in time tonight". My mother has never wet herself, and indeed the aides warning was correct. My mother wet her self the next day waiting almost 30 minutes for help to the rest room. The second red flag was that the facility had most of the day to prepare for our arrival and make sure that my mother's medication would be available for her evening dose. She arrived at 4pm and did not receive her heart medication until 11:30pm. Third red flag was that I over heard a family member ask our nurse, "What medications did you give my mom this morning?" And our nurse responded with "What we've been giving her." No specifics and not indication of what time the meds were administered. My mother would call me when she was ringing the call button so I witnessed 15-20 minute waits for my mother to get help toileting. I took my mom to a routine primary care visit the day after admission as a follow up to her hospitalization. The facility gave me paperwork with mistakes on the orders, and again no indication of when the medications were given, or current vitals just a repeat of the hospital orders. I was told that my mother would have a care team meeting with physicians, therapists and other care team staff to discuss her care plan 2 days after her arrival. No PHYSICIAN EVER EVALUATED MY MOTHER or showed up to the meeting. I ended up removing my mother 2 days after her admission. My mother called to say that she was coughing and spitting and saw a pink tinge. This was about 1 hour after I left her to run an errand and after I notified the facility in that I was planning to transfer my mother home after the weekend so she would be more comfortable. My mother called for the nurse to show her what was happening and the nurse told my mother that it was simply Tumms. My mother proceeded to explain that she had only taken a Tumms in the morning and that the color of this was closer to pepto than calcium carbonate. Within 20 minutes of telling the nurse my mother felt light heading and started having sharp pains in her stomach. I immediately made my way to the facility which took about 15 minutes. In that time the nurse never responded to the call button. As I arrived the nurse claimed that she had given my mother a Tumms in the afternoon, but my mother was calling me on every Med pass and did not have any meds because they were testing for Covid-19. They stood and watched me pack my mom up as she was moaning in pain. I took her to the emergency department and my mother was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. God only knows how much pain she would have been in overnight or throughout the week as the staff had no intention of treating her medically.

Onr night my husband wss put to bed only in a diaper, no hospital gown. What dignity! Staff spent time on their cell phones which left them with little time to bring requested oxygen tanks. Management could not be reached easily. 1. The receptionist busily visits with patients who gather round the reception desk or on break/lunch 2 if phone gets answered and person called not a desk no way to leave message as thr phones do not record messages. 3. Management does not frequent their offices so cannot drop in. Ergo no one to talk to or get answers from. No wifi. Air conditional barely adequate. Food service erratic serving hours. Tiny portions. Overall management personnel does not manage. Staff sort of work
