    Combo Kabobs Lamb Shank

Holy hole in the wall!!! If you are looking for a delicious hole in the wall place to grab some amazing food - this is the place for you! We needed a place to grab food with our kids post-zoo trip and this hit the spot in every way. How does this place have so few reviews?! Extremely unassuming exterior, but we were very pleasantly surprised it had 5 parking spots attached to the building. Only one table inside plus two window seat areas, but it was very clean and inviting. The staff was friendly, helpful and were SO nice to our 2 and 4yo. Majority of the menu has zero spiciness which was great for our kids who still only aspire to like spicy. They had a couple takeout orders picked up while we were there but no other dine in folks (this was 6-7p on a Saturday). -pita + hummus - this is when I knew we were in for a treat. We got this as a starter to help tie hangry kids over, but hoooo boy. The pita was amazing and the hummus spices were so good. If my 4yo hadn't loved it so much I probably would've eaten it all myself before the other dishes showed up. - lamb shank was truly fall off the bone meltingly amazing. The sauce was also so good. My 4yo couldn't get enough! It came with a full plate of flavorful spiced basmati rice that my 2yo ate by the handful + perfectly crisp fresh salad. The amazing salad dressing meant I couldn't help but eat most of it... which is saying something because I'm usually averse to cucumbers. - combo kebab with chicken and steak was well cooked, moist and not dry. Our 4yo also gave the chicken a thumbs up too. While we live far away in South Bay, we will definitely be back again next zoo visit. Highly recommend as dine in or take out! Looking forward to trying more dishes next visit, maybe a dessert too!

We stumbled upon this place randomly.... Im usually not a fan of eating out afghan food bc my mom literally makes the best afghan food so going out, im always disappointed. This was the first time in a very long time ive been impressed!!! First off, Customer service is TOP TIER! The main guy (didnt get his name) is seriously SO NICE and truly cares about his business in making sure customer service satisfaction guaranteed. He checked in on us multiple times to see if the food was good or if we needed anything! Its a hole in the wall place, family owned and definitely worth the trip and would definitely come back!!! The price is extremely reasonable as well! The only thing is, I wish they had better seating.

If you love burgers, their burgers are on a different level!! Not your typical plain burger, afghan style filled with spices. Service is fantastic, very helpful with any questions about their cultured menu. Definitely trying their kabobs and bowls next time. Also their fries are bomb!

Always an amazing meal when I come to Oaktown Kabob! I've had their catering as well and it's equally as good. Today I had their loaded fries with the tikka kabob on top and it's probably the best thing I've eaten in awhile! Best service, great quality food, looking forward to my next visit

Loved them when they were Pamir in Dublin and am so happy to know they are back and close for me to visit now in Oakland. Their food is amazing but they are wonderful people as well. Secret menu item BAKED CHICKEN. Just have to pre-arrange it with them and special order is 5 portions but it is beyond words AMAZING and DELICIOUS!!! Perfect way to get together with friends or family and have a fantastic meal for the holidays but not have to cook or fuss. (That said, I love it so much, ideally, I keep 2 portions for myself, it's that good!) I also see they offer new experiential items from time to time and I am excited to try some of those as well.

Came in for my first time a few days ago. I ordered 2 chicken kabob plates and one Chapli (afghani smash burger) plates and they were DELICIOUS. The chef made them fresh, which I very much appreciated and was well worth the wait. The meat and rice were flavorful and the portions are generous. I will definitely be returning. The chef was also very kind. So happy to have this local gem, serving fresh healthy food.

The restaurant was pretty warm from the oven and no ac was on, there is a fan near the door. We ordered many appetizers, the best was the potato bolani, and eggplant borani. Unfortunately there was no pakora but they had samosas, which were ok. For mian dishes, we had a variety of meat and vegetables. For veg, I recommend the sabzi challow and green beans. And heard the lamb chops were good. Food came out hot and delicious but it did come out slowly. There was only one cook in the kitchen. Service was friendly, they allowed us to eat an outside cake in the restaurant. Would come back to eat again, maybe take out!

But working with them directly helps them earn more than when it's through one of the delivery sites). I've always liked Kamdesh, sometimes during a busy lunch rush I've had to wait a little bit, but I felt like getting them a shot. I worked out a menu for a buffet lunch with different items and they delivered to my office in downtown. We had folks with dietary restrictions, and the person I talked to was able to walk me through some options. There were able to work within my price range per person and I could choose different items like kebabs, borani, etc. and they included cooked veggies, saffron rice and salad. It probably ended up being too much food but that's a good problem to have. Everyone enjoyed the meal, and we had leftovers in the fridge for a couple days.

I usually get my food to go because the restaurant can become crowded, and I prefer enjoying it somewhere more relaxed. My favorite way to do it is to pick up an order, take it to a nearby park, and enjoy the food outside. It makes for a simple and enjoyable meal without dealing with the busy dining area. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good Afghan food, especially if you enjoy fresh bolani.

We came in on Saturday at 11:30 to an empty restaurant, but by noon it was packed. We ordered the mantu, bolani, a few kabobs, and the lamb shank challow. The appetizers were great - the mantu had a great flavor and felt very hearty. The leek and butternut squash felt homey and warm - our waitress said they were her favorite, and were so glad she gave us that recommendation! The leek paired nicely with the yogurt provided, as it was a little spicy and had an aroma pretty similar to chives. The squash bolani was slightly sweet, and almost felt like an in-between for dessert. Having both was a nice contrast. By far the murgh (chicken) kabob was our favorite skewer, as it was the juiciest meat, and quite tender. The table ranked the chaplee (ground meat, with a hint of spice) next in terms of flavor and texture, and teka (tri tip) was slightly more dry and bland compared to everything else. The lamb shank was quite tender but smaller than expected for the price; it still had a nice homey flavor though I prefer when restaurants provide more of that braised juice to go alongside the dish. I don't eat cilantro, so had requested there to be no cilantro in any dishes, but they said they couldn't remove it from the salad, so was a little sad about that. We also had to request for Overall, would highly recommend the chicken kabob and bolani - would love to come and try other appetizers too.

We had borani kaddu - butternut squash with yogurt and garlic sauce. This was a good alternative to the common borani banjan. the texture was perfect, not overly cooked, went well with the warm bread. perfect for vegetarians. Our vegetarian companion had borani banjan - smoked, grilled eggplants in the tomato yogurt sauce similar to the appetizer we had. But served with rice and salad and green chick pea side provided enough serving. it was delicious - they have an option to make it vegan as well. Now quabili palaw was the star! massive size of lamb shank, well seasoned, well cooked, perfectly seasoned. The rice was fantastic with enough sweet carrots and raisins. Will be back just for this! Shami kabob came with two kababs (picture only one as our little one already sneaked one!). Kababs were juicy, perfectly spiced, with enough rice and salad. Between quabili palaw and shami kabob was enough for two adults and hungry child... Khoshmazeh!
