TL:DR Get you some Afghan food! Service - always busy when I go so be patient. They are working hard. Parking - always challenging. Try the parking garage Food - delicious and filling. The combo play is a winner to try chicken and Chapli. The side of bread that they service with the meal is also quite good

As soon as we stepped foot inside of this restaurant, we were warmly greeted with smiles. There were plenty of indoor seating available on a friday evening for dinner. This was my very first time trying Afghan food and I was shocked on what I've been missing out on. We ordered the Bolani Kadoo for an appetizer dish. This is a flat bread pan fried with squash (it almost looks and tastes like a quesadilla). It was freshly made, warm, and melt in your mouth good! It was plenty to share for 3 people. As for my entree, I ordered the Bondinjon Borani - a roasted eggplant and tomato dish topped with some garlic yogurt sauce, served with a side of a TON of rice and a side salad. The rice was also very good, it is a type of basmati but very flavorful and complemented well with the saucy eggplant. We were also well taken care of too and were helped by a very kind woman. I hope that more people try this place, as I definitely took too long to discover it!

combo plate! Chicken & beef

WOW this restaurant is amazing!!! This was one of my favorite meals I've eaten this whole year lol. Everything from the rice to the meats were so tasty and well seasoned. You can really see and taste the quality of all the ingredients they use here. I have a big appetite so I was very happy that they offer generous big portions here. Also the customer service here is extremely warm and inviting! Our hostess Yasmin really treated us like family, she was so kind to us and made sure we were taken care of! Such a sweet person! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND everyone to eat here! We will be coming back soon Thank you De Afghanan Kabob House & Yasmin! something you don't experience everyday! ! I'm not one to leave reviews, but our experience here today was exceptional 10/10

This is a nice little gem with good service and almost feels like a home cooked meal Definitely a must try Sorry was to hungry to spell the correct name of the dishes

The Afghan bread was so delicious, that I took some home and had it with coffee the next morning.

Family-run business with personal customer service and excellent food. Ordered the lamb kebab, came out piping hot, tender, and delicious. Side salad was very refreshing, only wish there was more. Rice was perfect. Came with a basket of fresh Afghan bread that was great on its own and with leftovers. Restaurant was full of families but they cleared a table just for me. Another customer mentioned they came from Richmond just to eat here, best Afghan food around. Relaxing and chill ambiance as well. You will be extremely satisfied. I'm definitely stopping to have a meal here when in Walnut Creek!

Chapli with Rice

I will say this, the food is good. The meats were juicy and salty and the rice was buttery and soft. I'm giving this place 3 stars mainly because I did enjoy the food. However, service is slow. There was maybe 1 table ahead of us that ordered and our food took about 30 min to come out. When we were done, the hostess took our plates and we thought she was ready to give us the check. She only gave it to us after we asked when 10 minutes had passed. Our meal for 3 people cost around $80. A bit pricey for me, and it's hard to tell people to come here knowing there's faster and better service along the street.

Great atmosphere and very delicious food, especially with the fresh hot bread I tried the mantu and it was amazing. Definitely recommended to others! The service was excellent, and the staff were very kind, friendly, and welcoming.

Amazing food, poor service. We got potato and leek stuffed appetizer that was served with yogurt and mint sauce, this was very tasty. The chicken kebab was delicious and the chicken was so soft tender and delicious. They served it with basmati rice and cucumber salad. The boss eat rice was extremely flavorful and they give you a lot of it. My husband got the lamb shank with that with the rice served with the topping of carrots and raisins. This dish was amazing and the lamb meat just fell off the bone. We would definitely come back for takeout but not for a sit down. The lady who took our order did not take down the items we wanted so half of them didn't make it to the table. The bread wasn't brought until after the meal was done. She also brought our entrees at two different times so we were just sharing our dinner until the next entrée arrived. The table next to us also had their orders mixed up, so maybe it was a rough day in the kitchen for them. They were also mentioning that their food was brought in so late and they were going to miss their movie times so they decided to just pack up their dinner and leave. Overall, come here for the food, but make sure to take it to go.

Kabob Combination (Lamb, Chicken, Chapli)

Small place with a few tables, good service and food. We ordered: Mantu (3 Stars) It was ok, nothing really stood out, the beef stuffing was ok. The dough was fresh and soft. They topped them with Lentils (al dente, is that good or should they be soft?) in a tomatoes sauce that was under seasoning and then drizzled plain yogurt with dry mint of the top. I'll try a different appetizer next time. Green Chutney (4 stars) Like most Afghani restaurants they have a little container on the table. This one was thick and very spicy, a good heat! Combination Kabob (Sub Lamb for Beef, Chicken, Chapli) (4 Stars) The lamb was well seasoned and tender. They asked how I wanted it cooked, I said medium rare, it was well, but still good and not dry. They pulled it off just time, but no pink. The chicken was marinated and seasoned well with a bright red coloring, cooked perfectly with a slight char, but still juicy and tender inside. They finished with a sprinkling of sumac (they also have a shaker of sumac on the table, next to salt and pepper) The Chapli was mixed with green onion and spicy, really good. It was cooked perfectly with crispy edges and soft inside. Good stuff! The kabobs were serviced with a small salad of large julienne cut cucumber and tomatoe with cilantro (the whole leaf, not chopped) and drizzled plain yogurt over the top. It also comes with brown basmati that is perfectly cooked and separated/fluffy. Afghani Bread (4 Stars) It was really good, whole wheat, fresh, light (very easy to eat not tuff or chewy), comes with every order. Until next time...

Great service, Great food. Street Parking might be a challenge on weekend however there is parking structure "South Locust Garage" next to it :-)

Beef kebab

Nothing compares to their beef and chicken kebab with brown rice! The meat is consistently moist and tender. We would fly from Las Vegas to California just to eat here. We met the owner in this location, Wais, and he was very nice and accommodating. We always get a complimentary appetizer. We are here twice in a row and plan to go back tomorrow and the next day before we leave for Vegas. I wish they will open a branch in Las Vegas.

Ask the Community - De Afghanan Kabob House

Are they associated with the De Afghanan in Fremont?

Hi , Yes , He is my Brother And I was in Fremont too run the cuisine one…

Have the closed down?

No, De Afghanan Kabob is not closed down. They recently reopened for business.

Did they move locations? I hope they didn't close Bc their food is awesome. Looks like they are closed with a Japanese Onigilly restaurant moving into the space in August :(

Are they still open?

Yes! Open for both indoor and outdoor dining. Delicious, you won't regret going!!

Is this location open on Mother's Day and, if so, what hours? Is it necessary to phone orders ahead of time or can people place orders at the restaurant?

I would recommend you to call the restaurant and find out, normally you can place order at restaurant not sure how they're doing it with the shelter in place. Definitely call them

Is it halal?

Yes! All halal

Does anyone know if this location serves sheer chai? We used to go to the Livermore location and we loved the sheer chai and then they stopped serving it.

Livermore still has sheer chai. It's usually on weekends :)

I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider…read more Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good food. I know how to order next time. Extra green sauce or yogurt drink all over.

Good stuff! The star rating is purely for the type and grade of restaurant this is…read more As we've always had this place on the raider being its neighbor, we finally made it here and met the owner. Service was pleasant, and we received enough attention throughout the meal course. Great, open seating with the view on the Monument Boulevard, that was bright and comfortable. The outstanding Afghani food, and even better the desserts with saffron tea made this experience complete throughout. Would highly recommend Narunj Palow with thinly sliced dates. Turned out to be a little bit pricier than I thought it would be for a lunch, however, it really did worth it.
