A halal gem right between Mission College and Great America! I met up with my friends here on a Friday night, and it wasn't busy at all. The interior looks modest. It's because it's geared more as a take-out, casual restaurant, where you go in and order your food at the cashier. Still, there are tables to sit down and dine in, so we waited around 15 minutes for all of our food to arrive. I got the Roasted Lamb entree, which consists of tender leg lamb pieces with rice, salad, and sauce. The lamb was so juicy and tender, even my friends who had a bite of it admitted they were jealous of my order. For a casual joint, Fremont Kabob did an amazing job making everything taste really good. In my opinion, I have personally been to halal places with better value in terms of their food, pricing, and restaurant environment. Nice to see an authentic and casual Afghan joint in the Fremont area! It was a quiet Tuesday night but this place was quite packed. Nice cozy aesthetics on the inside with traditional furniture. Service was good and they were able to provide items that weren't explicitly on the menu as well. The meats were cooked very nicely, and their rice also tasted like a lot of care was put into cooking it. I think the highlight is definitely all of their desserts though! What did not work: The chickpeas came with some very sour watery gravy which also had some bits of potato in it. It was too tart for my personal liking. Having eaten some stellar korma in the past, I was forced to compare it with their take on this iconic dish which unfortunately fell short. The lamb was really tender and just fell off the bone, which was great. The tomato and garlic sauce was nicely pureed, but a bit bland. I couldn't taste the garlic at all. Very delicious afghani food, its very underrated but have to try this one. The way they cooked especially the chicken kabob is very tasty filling, tenderness of the meat and the texture of the rice. The chickpea pickle on the side is very tangy and good, first time trying and very good when you mixup with the chicken kabob and rice. Adding the green sauce with the kabob is very flavorful. The yelp reviews for this restaurant are very misleading. The food was overpriced, and the quantity/quality was terrible. I spent $105 for 4 people. They charged extra for brown/seasoned rice without advising me of the added cost. Most afghan places allow substitution for no cost. The chapli kabob was SOGGY. The portions of chicken were small. They don't serve complimentary bread like most afghan restaurants. I won't return here. read more

However, their special kebab is very spicy, and they should inform customers that it's extremely spicy. One downside is that the food here isn't cheap, and I expected it to be served on normal plates, but it was served in paper containers with plastic spoons that break while eating -- I really didn't like that. read more

I was in town recently. Saw this nearby on Yelp. Only a few minutes from my hotel. They have Bolani which is hard to find in a good restaurant in SoCal. We ordered food at the counter and sat down to wait for it. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The Bolani is really a large appetizer to share with others. Piping hot and served with yogurt. Also some sauces on the table were available to try with the Bolani. It was delicious. I haven't had it in a while so I forgot the other place in the city of Fremont to compare it to. Alright honest review time So basically came here after Jummah and wanted to try it out. Parking was alright, little tight since it's in a parking lot shared with other food places Inside was nice, good amount of tables and it is self service to get your napkins and plastic utensils (quite disappointing instead of metal). They had music going on in background, would recommend to remove that since it's not needed as well. Food came in a good amount of time like 10-20min of wait time and it was fresh. The brown rice was an extra $2 extra since default for the kabob/chicken platter is white rice. We got the sultan kabab to try 3 diff meats and review them. The paper plate was quite a disappointment since it makes the portions smaller especially when ordering a 3 combination platter. The chicken botis were good and juicy, same for the beef and they gave 4 of each. The chapli was one large piece and it was good too. The downside was the quantity of rice given and it lacked flavor, although it was brown colored. It was enough for 2 people to share one platter that we had got. Soda can was about $4 for 2 cans. Also there was no traditional afghan bread served complimentary that you normally get at other afghan places. Think of this place as like an expensive fast food afghan type spot that's also pricey (but then again it's afghan food which is pricey) and it's also located near work buildings and a community college. They gave a small container of chole and one of chopped vegetables (salad). The salad and the chole (garbanzo beans) were not good. The garbanzo beans and potato it was too sourish (but it was meh) rather have salad dressing than that. And the salad looked old and stale if you know what I mean. Order at the counter and you're given a pager for when your order is ready for pick up at the counter. Bolani (stuffed flatbread) and Mantoo (potstickers) are the most popular apps, Soups (lenthil), Kebabs/Entrees, and Desserts: Firni (pudding) and baklava. I've been to both locations. If you come here, don't expect anything fancy, just good food and prompt service. The portions were a bit larger at the location on Mowry, but that was not the only difference. At that location, a server comes to your table, and you get the whole restaurant experience. They serve you Naan and take your drink order, and check in on you. Here you go to a widow, place your order, and then they bring everything out on paper plates. You go grab plastic utensils, and you're ready to dine. Honestly, if I could do it again, I would not eat here. I'd take the food to go and eat comfortably at home with a proper knife and fork.
