On 8/12/21 we brought our 5 month old puppy into Oakview Pet Resort for doggy day care at their Lake Zurich facility. Hours later we received a call from their staff informing us our puppy was being transported to the Wauconda Animal Hospital to receive stitches after an incident during day care. I met the Oakview staffer at the Hospital along with my puppy. The staffer was very young, inexperienced and very distressed from the situation considering she was wearing my dogs blood and was forced to transport my dog in her personal vehicle. I will spare you the horrific details of how my puppy looked and was behaving in that moment, but I understood fully why the Oakview Staffer was in a state of shock. The Oakview staffer provided a detailed account of the incident while we were at the Hospital. She described her and another staffer pulling at and hitting a full size German Shepard whom would not release his grip on my puppy's throat for well over a minute. What she couldn't do is explain why a 5 month old puppy was in the same play group as full grown male German Shepard whom she admitted had a history of aggression. She repeatedly apologized, insisted the owner would pay for all costs and that the German Shepard would not be welcome back to their property. Not only did the owner not pay for a dime of my costs, but he/she never bothered to ever call to check on my dog's well-being or return any of my emails or phone calls. Unfortunately, we ignored the reviews and opt'ed for convenience living just up the road...it almost cost my puppy his life. The worst part is our dog is now skittish around other dogs. I have been taking my dogs here for 10 years! Unfortunately the prices keep changing. My dogs always shared a room because they are more comfortable together. They would stay in 1 executive suite! As of late they started charging me for 2 executive suites every time they stay over! I understand there needs to be a charge for the 2nd dog, I had asked if I could be charged for the executive suite that they stay in and then charged for a less expensive suite since they don't even use a 2nd room at all! For some reason they will not allow it.. I need to be charged for two $65 rooms instead of $65 and $40. It makes no sense to me! Also on the website it says that the overnight boarding includes a day of daycare. Well that is not exactly true! We dropped off my dogs at 6:30 pm Friday and picked up Saturday at 6:30 which would be an overnight and a daycare. The daycare is only included the day they get there. So for my 2 dogs to stay overnight and do one day of daycare was $190! That's just too much! After 10 years I'm going to have to find a new more affordable place to take my dogs! read more

I haven't had issues with oakview itself: the staff is very kind and my pups come home clean and fluffy when we request baths. Unfortunately, both of my dogs have come home sick every time we've left them for boarding. We kept giving oak view a chance - like 5 chances - but it's draining finances to have the cost of boarding on top of vet bills and meds every time they board. We will be finding new boarding, I would not recommend anyone send their dog there unless you are okay with them getting sick. I'm not sure what the issue is; I've never had this issue at the many other boarding places I've tried. read more

I took both my dogs here to be groomed and was impressed by the quality and friendliness of this location. Typically, I use petsmart but they were slow to reopen their grooming services. We have used this location for boarding and the dogs always come home happy and worn out from their daycare stay. This is a nice independent business and i am happy to support. read more

Our dog has been going to this place for quite some time and her stay was great at first. Even though the customer service and their odd policies are not user-friendly, it worked because it's the closest to us and convenient. Their prices are higher as well but we chose the convenience over price. But lately their service has gone from bad to worse. Last time we boarded our dog they told us they will only release her at 3 the next day instead of the usual 10am we did before. When we went to pick her up they charged us for an extra night!!!!! We complained and after a month of back and forth they finally gave us a refund. Obviously we didn't learn our lesson and this weekend we booked a stay for her. The LZ location was full so they recommended their Wauconda location. It was a. emergency so we took her there. The worst experience ever! The people there are very unprofessional and vague. They said yes to everything we asked but didn't really bother to listen. We booked grooming with the boarding but when we picked her up today, she wasn't groomed. But the worst part was they overcharged us again. Their pick up time is 3pm. we asked repeatedly before booking if we can pick her up in the morning but they said no. And then they overcharged. We refused to be bullied this time by tricky policies and they had to back down. We are not going back. Pets are our babies. It concerns me when the people we trust to take care of them cannot be trusted. When you take care if someone's pets, shouldn't you be caring and accountable instead of just thinking business? we don't ever want to go through stressful time like this. read more

We had been taking our dog Bogie to Oakview for 3 years. It was really convenient to get to and the staff always seemed nice. We got a new dog (COVID puppy) in March and wanted to take her to daycare for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Upon picking them up we were informed that pit bulls were not allowed. Little did they know that Bogie was ALSO part pit...it's an insurance thing but to us it's a completely biased and WRONG thing. Shell out for the insurance to cover pit bulls (and hopefully some day there won't be such a thing as more money for pit bulls)!! My pitties are amazing and only want cuddles and play time. Oakview completely lost our business that day and we are so angry about it all. Lucky for us we found a wonderful new daycare just down the road at Barrington Pet Resort. Their staff sent out a report card on their first day saying how much they loved our dogs and pitties! read more

Stay away! This place is terrible and has the worst customer service of any business I have ever seen. We sent in our dog that has a unique cut and we were assured that they knew what they were doing and it wouldn't be a problem. For health reasons our breed must have hair over his eyes and always has (8 year old dog) When we picked him up he was shaved completely and all the facial hair over his eyes was gone as well, leaving his eyes exposed. My wife complained and there was zero empathy from the people working there and they wouldn't give us our dog until we paid. We left several messages for the owner to call us to discuss the situation and we never heard from them. HORRIBLE service, HORRIBLE people, Horrible ability!!! read more

Our dog was injured by another at this location. While dogs will be dogs the staff showed great concern and tried to determine what happened. This rating is low because the owner failed to return any of our calls. While the staff is great I cannot say the same about the owner. I am glad he is not involved with the care of the pets. read more

The worst place ever! To make a long story short....I had to have police come and contact the owner to send someone back to get my puppy because they forgot he was there and locked up store. I was told to come back at 1:00 and the building was locked up and all employees were gone. BAD BAD PLACE...FYI...owner never apologized!!!! Stay away if you love your dog! read more

Disappointing and unprofessional In short, called in the morning as my dog had gotten into something outside and needed a bath. I needed to get to work and found Oakview was open early after calling other options and offered drop off bath's and daycare which included exercise/playtime with other dogs. I told them my female pit/lab mix needed a bath and they said they'd be happy to take her right away and were glad to help. Everything seemed fine when I arrived and again said they were glad to help. I relayed the need of a bath for the visit, filled out and signed the papers (including her breed) and was off to work. I called at 2:30 PM to see how things were going and couldn't get a live person and didn't get a return call. I arrived to pick her up and I got the feeling something was wrong the attendant took a note out of my dog's file..showed it to another employee who told me that my dog wasn't allowed back and that she had been kept away from all other dogs. When I asked why thy said because she is a pit-bull. My dog is not aggressive and has more anxiety resulting from being alone than anything else. I am foremost upset about my dog having to be alone, secondly that I wasn't told about it until pick-up (even after a call and got no response) and lastly that the discrimination by breed was so blatant. I provided full disclosure when I called and when I filled out the paperwork. This was disrespectful to me and to my dog. I can only hope the staff at Oakview can put themselves in my shoes and understand how it feels to be treated under a separate set of rules not based on your actions but on the actions of others... I've been bringing Max to daycare for a couple of years now and he absolutely loves it there. Sometimes I think he likes it at Oakview more than at home. They also have awesome suites for overnight boarding with flat screen TVs in them. I think the pups have it good there. The groomer is also fantastic. I highly, highly recommend Oakview for all of your pet care needs! They are the best! read more

We are still awaiting the owner Mike to call us to discuss the details of our dogs recent stay. We've calmly requested Mike's return call with both Tess & Lexi multiple times along with submitting an email/message per their main website. It's now been two weeks and still no call from the owner. Mike had his acting vet Dr. Harris contact us and he confirmed that he had never been notified of any health concerns regarding our dog during his stay. Dr. Harris came across as non-empathetic, frustrated and insulted my husband and I along with our vet who cared for our dog the very next morning after we picked him up. Our dog was alert and healthy when we dropped him off. Upon pick up he was gushing green/yellow mucus out of his nose constantly for days post boarding, had a dual ear infection and is showing signs of deafness (additional testing is needed to confirm deafness) he is not responding to his own name and normal known commands he learned at the Closer Bond Dog Training he had over 9 years ago, our dog continually shakes his head/ears, he's dropped 5+lbs having been given back his diarrhea covered bed at checkout. Our dog never poops in the house let alone his own bed. No one from Oakview contacted their own acting vet regarding our dogs health concerns, us, our provided emergency contact and or our provided vet on record. We spent more money on his needed hospital care a day following our pick up then we had for his 9 day boarding. We were also charged by Oakview for items not even requested upon review of our boarding receipt which was later refunded post our notifying Tess of the charges. read more

We have a 4 year old large dog that goes to a kennel when we travel. We were using a kennel farther from our home which we had no complaints with but decided to try the Oakview Pet Resort in Lake Zurich based on location. Of course we did a tour of the facility and met with staff and all seemed good. We liked this kennel because we were told that our dog would be allowed to have significant play time. The brochure says "your dog can run and play all day". Before our longer summer vacation we checked our dog in for a weekend stay for a trial run. All went well so we decided to use Oakview for a longer 9 night stay. We reserved a luxury suite at $55 per day with a TV and although they would supply a bed we brought his bed from home just to make him more comfortable. When we picked up our dog he reeked of urine as did his bed. We were told he peed on it 3 times. Large dog...large bladder our dog has not had accidents since he was a puppy! He has been kenneled for up to 2 weeks at our old kennel and this has never happened. Apparently the dogs are allowed to "play all day" by themselves in their suites. They did not bother to give him a bath or switch out his bed after the first time. We voiced our complaint after paying our nearly $500 bill and asked to have the owner give us a call but as of this writing no call. Safe to say i would NEVER use this kennel again. read more

They did a great job grooming our dogs. I've tried a few places in the area so far and this one was by far the best.

We were all set to board our sweet Pittie girl Noel at this business pending a meet and greet, and also playtime to make sure she gets along with the others. We were making the appointment on the phone when they asked what breed she was. When we Told them she was a pit mix they said they do not allow pit bulls. Even if she passes the temperament test? Even if she does great at the meet and greet? Even if she passes these tests they wouldn't take her. We were told that the other location in Wauconda that they have does allow pit bulls but our sweet girl wouldn't be allowed to join the other dogs in play time. They basically offered us to PAY them to keep our dog locked in a cage for three days like she was Hannibal Lecter or something. We were told it was because of insurance purposes. While it may be true that this insurance is more costly to carry, we called several other places in the surrounding area that welcome all breeds and said they would love to take our pittie girl for the weekend. These dogs are amazing, and deserve to live a life free of discrimination, just like any other dog. I will continue to be a advocate for this breed and be a voice for the voiceless. This place is wonderful!!!! The moment you walk in you smell....CLEAN! There is NO trace of that "dog smell" that other places have. Every single employee that I have interacted with seems truly, truly happy to work there and, even better, greets my dog like a long lost friend. I take my dog there once a week and the moment we pull into the parking lot, he whines with excitement, which tells me he enjoys his time at Oakview. Dogs are separated by larger dogs and smaller dogs, so there aren't any "insecurity" issues. I can't say enough nice things about this place- it's so nice to drop my dog off there in the morning and know that I will be picking up a happy, tired dog at the end of the day, and that he will be well cared for in my absence. I boarded my dog here for 5 days, but they charged me for 6 days because I picked my dog up 1 hour past their 10 am cutoff time. I was never told about this cutoff time and there was no sign posted about this policy. I asked to speak to the manager, but the manager would not come out to see me. The employee just returned from the backroom and said there was nothing they can do. I asked to speak to the owner, and she wrote down a note. But of course no one called me. I won't be taking my dog here again. I prefer to give my business to people who treat customers fairly and with some courtesy. read more

My dogs get happy as we pull in and I think there can be no better indication of the care they receive when they are on vacation. I decided to try out Oakview Pet Resort for my new pup for Doggy Day Care. My dog LOVES coming to Oakview and gets all excited when she knows Im pulling into the parking lot for her to play for the day. This is a review for the wauconda location as this is the only one I toured, but since they are owned by the same owner I can't imagine it is much different. We made a reservation for our dog based on the description of the boarding options on their website. After discussing our concerns about our dog, they recommended the cottages, which sounded very nice on the website. We then showed up for a tour and when entering, the place smelled awful and in general looked dirty. The woman at the front desk appeared unprofessional and took us in the back for a "tour". She took us in the back to the cottages and I was shocked to see small wooden boxes that the dogs were in. They were stacked on top of each other, and looked absolutely disgusting. It looked like what you would see in a puppy mill. I was completely shocked at the false advertising, and generally heartbroken that anyone would send their precious dog or cat to this place. The dogs didn't have beds and were just barking and seemed extremely stressed. If you love your dog or cat please do not leave them at this awful place. read more

When we get home from a day at Doggy Day Care, my big guy plops himself down and doesn't get up until the next morning to go outside!!
