Awful service, makes you feel like since we bought here now we are stuck having to deal with unwilling to help and not friendly customer service. Lady is lazy in the office, we came in at 11:35 today Saturday (opened until 12) since it is the only day we can come in due to work during the week to order my mom's plaque for her niche. She was busy helping someone else and then told us we needed to comeback another day because they close at noon. Mind you there was still time before noon. I asked her how hard is it to take my order and type a name and year? She responded I have to type the name and year, no sales today, I don't have time. Come back another day. OMG! Awful and lazy!! Nowadays many people are very disappointed with their life and they simply can't appreciate the beautiful things around them. It's hard to read such reviews about this great memorial park. However, since I started visiting this place about 3 years ago, I never had any problems with the staff. Adolfo is the best manager and very helpful. The park itself is so peaceful with breathtaking views that you don't want to leave. Fifteen years ago my father had my mother buried in Oakwood after we lost her to cancer. He paid extra for an extra deep burial, as his plan was to be buried with her after he passed and was cremated (she was not). He ordered a headstone with both their names and dates of birth/death. Obviously, his date of death was not engraved yet. Last year, he passed. We made arrangements to have his ashes interred with our mother. I inquired about the headstone, and was told to contact the original headstone company. I can't remember the reason, but they couldn't help, either. That's when someone from Oakwood told me they could easily just add the date on using materials from their shop. They didn't do it in time for my dad's interment, but we were promised it would happen. Almost a year later, we visited and noticed there is still no date of death on the headstone. I called the office (same woman who all these other reviews are complaining about) and asked when that could be finished. She immediately said they don't do anything like that and I had to contact the headstone company. I tried to remind her that their employee had promised to do it and she began YELLING at me, lying that no one had ever said any such thing. Incredibly hostile and rude, she wouldn't even let me finish my sentences. Of course, since my agreement for them to fix it was all verbal, I can't prove anything and they're clearly completely uninterested in being helpful. Not much competition in this industry, I guess, because this woman would drive away anyone if there were other easy options available. I called in to ask for pricing on plots for my loved one. Adolfo was not very helpful and immediately asked if I already had chosen a funeral home. Once I told him yes and shared the name of the business, he immediately took it upon himself to begin badmouthing the funeral home. I do not find it very professional that a cemetery employee badmouth a funeral home and I am pretty sure that is against the law. As a grieving family the last thing we want is more stress and second guessing. We are now worried about the funeral home even though their service has been nothing excellent and we have always been treated with care when using them for past services. I find it ironic that his service was subpar but he found it within himself to badmouth another business. In fact, they shouldn't have a job that interacts with people at all. My mom and dad picked the plots next to each other so I'm sure they were nice during the sale. This is a beautiful, but very ODD place. Christmas time it is covered in excessive tacky decorations all over the grounds. People are allowed to erect any tree or tinsel monstrosity. Weird! Plus there's tons of dark, stinky smoke coming from the "church" building as they cremate bodies there. Again, weird! Also stinks, I can't imagine that's good to breathe. Please stay as far away from this place as possible. We buried girlfriends father there in January 2023 in a pre-purchased crypt and they didn't have the chairs and canopy set up so we had to stand for the ceremony. Adolfo Zamudio who claims to be the manager blamed the mortuary representative. During the grave site service the staff were joking and talking out loud totally disrespecting our family and the service so the mortuary director had to shush them and tell them to be quiet and step around the corner all the time the deacon was speaking. We were very clear to make sure the words "I did it my way" was installed on girlfriends father's crypt. We even returned to the office to confirm this but when we went there April 2, 2023 they installed "I did my way". Now we have to wait weeks before it's corrected. On April 1, 2023 tragedy strikes again when girlfriends brother passed away so after making all the arraignments except for the cemetery we returned to Oakwood Memorial Park on April 13, 2023 so we could bury girlfriends brother with her mother and father. Adolfo knew exactly who we were the second we walked in the door and as soon as I told him her brother passed away Adolfo Zamudio walks over and says we'll never bury my brother anywhere close to her parents. He immediately quotes $15K for a ground plot plus $2,500.00 labor or $10.5K for a crypt and additional $2,500.00 labor again, nowhere near her father and mother and never even mentions headstones or markers. Adolfo was talking loud and smiling all the time as though he found humor in our grief. Then he grabs these maps and price lists, circles the highest prices and suggests we go to Glen Haven & Sholom Memorial Park where it would be "Two thirds less". Adolfo Zamudio is an unsympathetic subhuman being with absolutely no compassion. He should not be working in any position where he's allowed to come in contact with customers. read more

Pappy died when I was 9 years old. Mom brought us out every few years to visit first him, then Uncle Ray, and finally Grandma. I have photos of my son playing when I brought him along. Now I drive mom every few years to visit. It feels like coming home. The park is well laid out. It's manicured with a lush, green grass and many healthy roses, floribunda and others. Just beautiful. It's kind of difficult to write a review for a place like this given the circumstances my family and I are going through. Let me start by saying that Adolfo and his staff were extremely helpful throughout this wearying measure. His team made the process undemanding and easy to understand. Adolfo was equable and broke down the fiscal matters in a way that was easy to grasp. The cemetery is kept very clean and the landscaping looks beautiful. Plantsman round up and discard all previously delivered flowers to gravesites every Wednesday, unless they're still in great looking condition, otherwise they're thrown out. That includes any decorative item you may have brought, so remember to pick them up Tuesday and you could place back on Thursday. Oakwood Memorial Park has a chapel onsite and clean restrooms available to all personnel. Their hours are 7 days a week 8:30 AM - 5 PM. Recommendation for office: It would be amazing if your closing hours would change to 7 PM the latest. The majority of people get off work at 5 PM making it impossible to visit a love one during the week. Please consider making that change. read more

We were nervous to work with this cemetery bc of the bad reviews, but we had a wonderful experience from the planning to the actual graveside ceremony yesterday. Every step of the way we were given extra information that helped us make the best decisions for how to celebrate our dad. When guests arrived for the ceremony, they were given a map of where to go. Everything was set up and ready to go when we arrived 30min early (casket, canopy and extra chairs). Some reviews said that their loved ones gravesite isn't as well maintained as they'd like. But the manager said to let him know when we want to visit so everything will look nice when we arrive. They also need a lot of water to keep everything green. So that's my guess on why some graves might look wet. I didn't notice any water pooling and all the gravesites looked nice to me. It's a very large beautiful place where my dad can rest in peace. Pros: The grounds are Beautiful. The energy is peaceful and they will never move. Area is easy to get to and they have decent hours for access. Honest about using a broker but they don't recommend one. If you know and use one they will acknowledge it's the smart way to buy. Cons: Expensive if you buy through them. Find a broker you'll save quite a bit. 30%-50% less. Staff is rude, dismissive, and cold. Dealt with 3 people and during the course of my interactions each one had a bad moment. Made mistakes with headstone that had to be ordered from them. Easy catch but so quick to get you out the door didn't do the basic amount of cross checking to avoid the error. All in all using the broker so I know I didn't get up charged and the ease to get a burial date I would recommend this place. Don't expect first class customer service and use a broker and you'll have a solid experience considering the unfortunate circumstance. For what it's worth I'd want to bury here. read more

Grounds are beautiful. My father, grandparents, and 2 uncles are buried here. But employee Paul (didn't get his last name) and "manager" Adolfo J. Zamudio have no compassion for those who come to visit a loved ones grave. Both of them harassed me and my mother. It was my dad's death anniversary and I brought a closed and sealed bud light and put it on my dads grave. My dads favorite beer lol. We usually visit for 30 mins to an hour and of course would put it in the trunk sealed not opened before leaving. Paul came to us and said it was not allowed and I also had my dog which was he said not allowed either. I said okay, put my dog in the car with the windows down and put the can in my trunk. All on video. Did everything he asked us to do, then still continues to stand there and harass us. Then calls his "manager" and it gets even worse. A nightmare. Adolfo. He tells us that we were drinking and driving and was going to call the police. I said okay no problem, to go ahead and call the police because I had nothing to hide. He didn't call them. Took a photo of my license plate. My mother had her rosary in her hand and her prayer book and told them she wanted to pray and wanted them to leave since we had done everything they asked. He said her praying didn't mean anything. We both said we would never open the beer to drink especially drive after. And while praying? I told him now that I know what is against the rules of course I won't do it again. Even after putting my dog in the car, the can in the trunk for some reason they were still there standing and harassing us even after I did what I was told. All on video. I am not upset at all for being asked to put away the can, or even put my dog in the car. I have it all on video of doing those things that were asked of them. But it just didn't seem enough for them. They truly harassed us kept it going on and on when it could of just been communicated to us and finished once I followed what they said. In the video it shows myself putting my dog in the car and the can in the trunk. So I don't know why they were still there when they said they would leave after doing what I was told. I know it's not my part to understand how someone can be so cruel to another human being, especially being in a cemetery where people go to grieve, but there was no compassion, no sorry for being rude, nothing. And sadly, after this happened I checked yelp and all of the reviews and I have found over 10 maybe 20 reviews of those who have had a bad experience meeting or talking to Adolfo. There's no way that nothing has been said to him by his manager or owner of the cemetery.. but I truly pray and hope one day he will be more compassionate towards others. Recently had a horrible experience with the staff who work the office. Someone needs to train these two women how to handle bereaved family coming in to make arrangements. First of all, they assume you know the process. No, your job is to walk a family thru your services and pricing. Don't answer a basic question with attitude. One of the two women was so short with customers while I was there, it was pathetic to watch. This place needs a massive attitude adjustment asap. Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery may not come off as a top tourist destination near Los Angeles when it comes to cemetery visits. Nonetheless, its peaceful grounds are worth visiting in addition to paying respects to dancing legends and other classic cinema stars. While there are not a great deal of classic cinema greats buried here, the caliber of the few individuals here is noteworthy. I so much regret buying my only daughter here I lost my daughter in a tragic accident and when I went to make arrangements to bury her the manager had no compassion on how I was feeling and what I was going through his o my response was well I don't watch the news and he was rude didn't allow us to finish our sentences he was quick to take our money for the burial but I was not happy with the services I received from him or the other people working in the office we walked in and stood there being ignored before anyone even helped us out I should have saw that as a red flag in the beginning once I paid then I was told to have a service on a Saturday was going to be additional money and it had to be done before 12 noon I was not happy on how my child's service was rushed by Crawford and the oak wood I didn't even get to see my daughters casket get laid in the ground because they rushed us out of there I'm still not happy with this place to date I have to cut the grass at times myself around her gravesite and I have to remove old flowers as well they really don't keep up with the place and they have so many rules that are not explained when you purchase a plot when I put balloons they remove them I had a balloon release they removed my daughters pictures and put them in the trash I regret every moment of this place being my daughters final resting spot Just celebrated my daughters birthday on Sunday the 17th and on Monday the 18th they went and through everything in the trash the lady at this place has no heart she shouldn't be in that line of business if she's not going to understand what grieving families go through. It once was somewhere else in Chatsworth but the area was being developed and the historic church was to be razed. Dale Evans, then a resident with her hubby Roy Rogers, had the church moved to Oakwood. That was sometime in the 1950's I believe. read more

It's unfortunate that my relative is buried here and if I had the money, I'd have them moved. I've had to visit this cemetery for 10+ years and never have I not felt uncomfortable. Why is that? Because the employees/gardeners/landscapers ogle you to the point of making your visit short. Mind you, they've been doing it since I was of preteen age. This has gone on for years and it wasn't until I recently shared a particular story with some friends that I was motivated to leave this review. On one particular visit, after finding my relative's grave covered in hardened mud and tire tracks, something that has happened repeatedly and far too often. After being stared at by one of the employees as I tried to scrape the dry mud off, I finally had enough and said something along the lines of, "what are you looking at!?" With a gross smirk, he proceeded to call who I'm assuming is some manager/supervisor whose name is Adolfo Zamudio. You would think the people employed at a place that handles the losses of loved ones would know how to deal with grieving, upset, and stressed families but alas, they couldn't be further from it. When Mr. Zamudio arrived, he made the situation worse. He defended the gross actions of his employees and instead of trying to rectify the situation he proceeded to berate me and another relative. This was around the holidays, mind you. As my relative tried to defend me, Mr. Zamudio accused him of being drunk because his speech was slightly slurred. What Mr. Zamudio didn't know was that my relative had stage 3 lung cancer with brain tumors that were affecting his speech and motor skills. My relative was mild mannered and far nicer than I was yet somehow, Mr. Zamudio thought it would be appropriate to be insulting...at a cemetery... where people go to grieve. Does that man have no sense? He continued insulting us and even laughed when we said we'd call the police after he tried to get physical with my relative who was in a physically weakened state and much smaller than Mr. Zamudio. Really though, who wouldn't become more upset than they already are when somebody starts mocking you and implying that you're drunk? As we grabbed our things to go, he proceeded to harass us until we got to our vehicle. Unfortunately, this is the cemetery closest to home and where many friends and family are buried. I'm not sharing this to deter you from this place but rather as a warning. Do not tolerate Mr. Zamudio's behavior because apparently, he feels so secure and entitled in his job that he thinks he doesn't have to do it correctly and that he can mistreat people. Possibly because once somebody is laid to rest in a plot, he can say and do whatever and most people won't complain because they just want to visit their loved ones. Edit: I just read the rest of the reviews after posting mine and I'm not shocked at all that so many people have had an issue with the manager. It saddens me that so many grieving people have had to deal with such a jerk who lacks even a morsel of compassion. I called to see availability for a plot and burial dates, and the response was " so what do you want me to do?" There was no respectful way to tell me that sending condolences or anything. I'm the kind of gal who likes cemeteries and will seek out new ones to explore; I had no clue Oakwood was so close to my parents' until I found it on the Internet, and for good reason. Oakwood is wayyyy at the westernmost end of Lassen, and the cemetery is too remote to pass by at random. It's snuggled up next to the hills in a very quiet area, and while visually fairly uninteresting, it's a nice place to visit. I like graves with big fancy markers, and there are none of those here, just uniform bronze panels. It seems most of the graves don't date back much more than 30 years, which I find odd since the church that stands at the very top of the park's hill is a historical landmark from the early 1900s (I believe it still holds Sunday services, and there's a tour of it once or twice a month; I've never been in). A few large shaded boulders stand behind the church, looking out over the property; they're my favorite place, because it's quiet and pretty and a really good place to sit and think where no one will bother you. A bit of Googling just brought to my attention - and much to my surprise - that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are buried at Oakwood! That's how unassuming the grave markers are, you'd never know two major icons are there. There's also a host of lesser Hollywood players, as well as Shirley Hardman, roller derby's "Blonde Bomber" and skater on the 1971 World Champion LA T-Birds (I can't pass up derby trivia). Oakwood's certainly not my first choice cemetery to visit in LA, but should you find yourself in the northwest Valley (my apologies) with some extra time, stop by. read more

Customer service of the woman who answers the phone. Is rude and has no idea who is in charge of the memorial park, asked about the groundskeepers and she says it is not their job to maintain headstones such as cutting grass around the headstones or remove grass from the flower cups. Any other mortuary that you go to the flower cups are easily accessible and the headstones maybe aren't cleaned or polished but at least the grass is trimmed around the headstone. What a shame for once was a gorgeous memorial park. I'm sure that the founders of this park would not be happy and how it's being run or handled. Because of being a nonprofit if you look at their financials, they are going down but yet the president is making almost $50,000. more than the last president. So it looks like the pockets are being lined of the people on the board instead of taking care of the park. With prices to bury a loved one is roughly $12,000-$18,000. Either the cheap seats or front and center under a tree. I would be embarrassed to volunteer for a board or work out at a place where their bad reviews out way the good. Planning a funeral and picking out a plot for a loved one, especially while you are overwhelmed with grief, is an impossible thing to face for anyone. When my family was faced with this a year ago our experience at Oakwood made this daunting task bearable and calming. I worked with a gentleman named Adolfo who gently and patiently walked me through every detail that needed to be taken care of, as well as patiently listened as I asked questions and cried through our meeting. This total stranger was kind and understanding towards me and my family that we appreciate still. Although I made arrangements through Adolfo, I have since had the opportunity to meet other Oakwood Staff, from the office to groundskeepers, during my weekly visits and they all have been warm and kind. Oakwood is a beautiful and peaceful Cemetery. It's quiet and tranquil with running fountains throughout and bells that play 3 songs at the top of every hour from the historic Pioneer Church. It's a place that brings me comfort when I visit knowing that my loved one is surrounded with caring staff and beautiful grounds. read more

My sister pasted away and was buried on November 07, 2017 in the family plot with my parents and brothers, so I when to the to cemetery to find out which burial plot was left for myself. To the right of my brother or to the left of my sister. I am a single woman like my sister and always knew my plot was there for me. When I went into the cemetery office and asked about it, the woman at the desk went to the back and came out she began to tell me, that the woman that made the funeral arrangements for my sister had an affidavit from my sister and sold the plot back to the cemetery. I explained I was next of kin and that it was my plot. She told me the cemetery had every legal right to buy the plot back with the affidavit! Is this true? My parents bought six plots in the sixties my family is there and now I'm a lost soul! My son is so worried about this we are on a fixed income I always thought I would be buried there. I tried calling as the person years ago bought a plot and it took them forever to get the name right. We went there as they told us we had to go for the marker.
