If I could give 0 stars I would. I am extremely disappointed in this company's business practices. Absolutely horrible customer service and even worse communication and lack of empathy for a families most precious life event. I had my baby in July and still have yet to receive my photos. I have been given the run around for over three months now. After numerous correspondence saying your photos were sent, we will resend and "oh we will send them tomorrow". We all know better that hitting send takes only but a minute. After that last response it was radio silence for over a month which led me to believe 1. They lost my photos, 2. They never sent them or 3. They just don't care. After the birth of my daughter the photographer came by to offer us the opportunity to have our babies photos taken and we gladly accepted since we used this service with our son who was born in 2014 at the same hospital (by another photo service the hospital used at that time). A short time later the photographer came back to our room to offer us the opportunity to have our photos gifted to us at no charge in exchange for using our family for a company promotional video and use of our families images and we graciously accepted since we had planned On using this service anyways. After the session the photographer said to provide my contact info through Instagram messenger and we would be given a link to our photos. Now after countless attempts to reach this company and several excuses as to why we don't have our pictures they are now claiming to be in the middle of the sell of the company and will try to get them to me by the end of this month. With this came a snarky remark of how they were glad I got them for free because if I was to purchase these photos in the Bay Area they would have been $675 dollars. I am extremely disappointed and tired of the excuses and now passive aggressive remarks regarding the want for my photos. I'm not sure if the people running this business has had babies of their own or not but I feel they are completely aloof to the importance of a new borns photos to a family. Sad. Words will never be able to express how grateful I am to this company. This was my second hospital photo session as I had a baby 3 years earlier and used their services. This experience was a bit different. The staff was very patient with me as we had to stop for a little bit so I could breastfeed. When we resumed the session went great. I was asked if myself or others wanted to be In the pictures. Unfortunately I was the only one at the hospital that day so I declined as I felt it wouldn't be fair for myself to be in a picture and not my husband. We finished the session and I awaited the finished product. About two weeks later I received a call from the owner. Something went wrong with the system and they may have lost our photos. We were offered another session at an outdoor location which we took. I was happy as it allowed my whole family to be there with the new baby. We headed to the park and it was a beautiful day out. We arrived and began. Two months earlier, our family experienced a traumatic loss. Our middle child who was 13 died from cancer. This photo shoot allowed us to include him in the session. We had a picture of him that we brought. The photographer allowed it and captured us all together as a family. They rectified the situation of the pictures being corrupt with an amazing photo shoot. This company went above and beyond. And, a few days later we found out that our families pictures were the only ones that could be recovered. If I could give 0 stars I would. My daughter was born 7/28/19. I still have NOT received my newborn photos. I have contacted them several times and always a different excuse or a we'll have them to you in a few days. I get things happen, like personal issues, but this is ridiculous! All I want is my daughters pictures that captures beautiful moments after her birth but here I am at my wits end trying to figure out what I can do or how I can go about getting these very personal and special moments. I am even trying to see if there is legal action that can be taken against them. I feel like I was robbed of these moments captured. It's very upsetting that they haven't even tried to right the wrong or attempted to fix anything. I concur with all the negative reviews. I had photos taken with my newborn about three years ago when I delivered at Sequoia. Although they did turn the photos around quickly, they gave me 24 hours to decide if I wanted to purchase them. I was sleep deprived, recovering from surgery, and completely underwater and they gave me 24 HOURS. What a stressful situation. We did get some beautiful photos of my daughter but the customer service was really difficult and the price was really high. I hope Sequoia finds another photographer who appreciates what life is like after a newborn. read more

I'm not a happy customer. The only reason why we ended up with Obaby was because we were having our first child at Sequoia, and Obaby was the hospital's only available newborn photographer. I have had enough experience dealing with professional photographers recently, since we have had four or five photo shoots in the last 1.5 years (engagement, wedding, family, etc). none of the other photographers have the following problems: Photos were not available until baby was 3 months old, even though they told us turnaround was 2 to 4 weeks in our hospital room. We were hoping to use these photos as holiday cards, but I suppose this will never happen, now that it's February. I don't know if my wedding photos took that long, and there were hundreds of them compared to the 15 Obaby was working on. When I follow up with them, they would reply with one of the following (and wouldn't be afraid to use the same reason more than once): Photos will be posted, or that they will check on upload, or that their server is being updated, or they need info of baby, or that they will resend (note: I highly doubt they ever sent it in the first place, so it was pretty frustrating when I got the message saying that they will "resend"), or that they will check when they are back in their office, etc, etc. When we finally got the link to view, the viewing gallery has expired even before we logged in. though it was part of the package that watermark will be removed for us to share with family and friends, the gallery once again expired as soon as we paid. However, this time, it remained expired even after multiple emails following up. [update: gallery is now working] Even viewing the photos was a pain - their viewing gallery does not support iPhone... really? in this time and age?!? If you do not want to purchase all the photos, it'll take longer for them to deliver the photos. We didn't want to risk it and bought everything. As expected, photos were not delivered the following business day as promised. Somehow DropBox was having issues. Note that their high def images are in JPEG only. The ONLY reason why we bought photos from them is that we made a mistake and didn't call in our own photographer. Since they are the only people with photos of our daughter when she was two days old, we had no choice but to pay up. to be fair, Nichole, our photographer, was nice . read more

Overall experience was well below average. Worst trait: lack of customer service and poor communication. Please talk to your customers with your own voice, don't just text me a long text trying to explain why it takes 3 weeks to get the pictures that you said would take 1 week plus 48hrs for payment to process. Also, don't make excuses to me the customer (via text message) about why your server is the reason that it takes 36hrs more than the promised 48hrs to upload the 10 digital pics we paid $195 for when the real reason is most likely that you just didn't submit the work order until after the weekend. Just to be clear, I don't mind waiting 3 weeks for pictures, but just tell me that up-front and then I won't be annoyed when the 1wk+48hr deadline you didn't keep comes and goes. This annoys customers. Best trait: The photographer that took our infant's pictures in the Sequoia Hospital was polite and timely. read more

TL;DR: Obaby does not process images (e.g., photoshop/touchups) any longer I am saddened to be writing this (long) review. My most recent experience with Obaby has been nothing short of disappointing and what I would have to consider as unprofessional. For context, our first hospital photo shoot in January 2015 went very well. We received great options to choose from and we were very pleased with the results. I would have rated 4 stars then (not 5 because turnaround for the touched up proofs did take a while with some follow up emails from me). Nichole even loaded one of our daughter's photos on this yelp page. Most recently, based on our positive first experience, we scheduled Obaby again in October 2018. Nichole sent a team member for the photo shoot, which we thought was great as it must mean expansion for her business. The low-lights: - The team member worked hard to accommodate us, which I appreciate, but did not take into account wrinkles in the blankets/background robe, etc that the baby was placed on - We wanted a photo of our elder daughter with the baby - only two options came back, one with her hair covering her entire face. - After multiple follow up emails (3) and texts (can't remember the # of texts), we received a standard email from Obaby stating that due to a family emergency they were very behind - The photos were sent to us unfinished/ not touched up - Our problem: We appreciated the gesture but wanted to pay for finished photos. We had zero timeline requirements (which I communicated in my emails) and were happy to pay for the finished images - After my follow ups, I did not receive a response from Obaby until I mentioned Yelp - Obaby waited two months to let us know they couldn't handle the influx of photos and nearly three months after the birth of our son did not respond to us (even if the answer is "no") about finishing the work on the photos. -The Loss: Our son grew like a weed out of the hospital and as a result of the compete lack of communication, we have no finished newborn photos of our son. We can never make him that small again -Poor communication: I pasted my emails below verbatim - Obaby's one and only response. I was disappointed for the response to start with, "I'm not sure what exactly you need?..." as I had clearly articulated my questions in the first email. 12/13/18: from me: So sorry to hear about the family illness. Thank you for sending these along. Do you guys not photoshop/touch up photos like you used to? If it's a timing thing, we'd rather wait and have a couple of the photos actually touched up like our daughter's were. We can let you know which images do you don't waste time on all of them. We'd rather pay for a finished photo rather than get them for free if that is an option. Also, were there any shots of the family where the heads were not cut off? I was nervous to have my 1 newborn baby photographed because I had no idea how she would act. I was worried she'd be fussy and crying the whole time and we wouldn't end up with great photos. If you'd like to have great photos of your newborn baby, but would prefer to not actually receive those photos until they're being potty trained, then Obaby Designs is the right photographer for you! In all seriousness, I'd give them 1.5 stars if I could, because they do take excellent photos, and the experience of dealing with the photographer in the hospital was very pleasant and easy. But since I can't, I have to round down to 1 due to two terrible experiences trying to actually get those photos once they've been taken. 1) After the photos were taken at the hospital, we were told it would be about a week until they were ready. After a week, I emailed to see if they were ready yet. Three days later, I got an email saying they were "finishing up with [the] edits." Another three days go by, and I send another email. No response. The next day, I leave a voice mail. No response. The next day, another voicemail. And, finally, that day the photos appeared. Again, the photos were great, but the poor communication was aggravating. -2 stars for this experience. 2) We were so happy with the photos, that we gave some friends a gift certificate for an in-hospital photo session and photos. Obaby said they would mail our friends a paper gift certificate to notify them of the gift. This was over a month before the baby's due date. No gift certificate arrived. Repeated communications were met with silence, statements that the certificate will be mailed within a day, and/or statements that the certificate was already sent but that they would send another one. Our friends never received the gift certificate. OK, fine. We told them about the photo session and it went smoothly. But now, 3+ months after the birth, they are still waiting for their photos. -2 stars for this experience. tl;dr If you go with Obaby, expect minimal communication/customer service and a long wait for your pictures. read more

Although the photos are good, the business is terrible, the communication is non existent, they charge your card and then you have to stalk them for weeks to try to get your photos, they are unresponsive, the cost is outrageous, and the negatives go on and on. My husband and I are so happy that we did the Obaby photo shoot for our newborn baby. Obaby was great and we enjoyed every moment of the session! Our family was able to do all the poses we requested and we have a beautiful pictures to show for it. These guys suck big time! I am currently fighting to get my money back from them! They came to us at Sequoia hospital and we accepted their service without having a chance to check their reviews. The actual taking of the pictures was fine. The photographer was courteous and was able to do some basic setup with whatever was available in the room (the hospital would not allow them to bring props). But that's where the good experience ended. One day after having taken the pics, we got emails and texts from them threatening us that we had only 24 hours to make a decision on which pics we want to purchase or all pics will be deleted and lost forever! Talk about a stressful sales pitch for parents who are just getting home from the hospital and have a ton of other pressing things to deal with. Anyway, in the middle of the night, me and my wife went through the pics and decided to purchase one before their deadline expired, and made the payment online. There was no direct link to download the pics we purchased, just make payment and then follow up manually with the folks at Obaby to get your pic. Once they got the payment, they completely stopped all communication! No response to emails, no response to texts, no communication whatsoever. I have sent them repeated texts and emails asking for directions to get the pics I purchase, but nothing! It is now 10 days since I made payment and I have not heard from these guys! Shame on them!!! They chase you constantly until you make a purchase, then you fall off their radar! Stay away from these guys, they are the most unprofessional and disorganized set of folks I have seen in this business. read more

Maddening. Avoid at all costs. As many others have indicated, you can expect to wait months for subpar photography and abrasive, insulting customer service that makes it YOUR FAULT that your baby's photos took forever to arrive. And after begging via email and phone for 4-5 months to see the images, you'll be given a 24-48 hour window to purchase the images before they're permanently destroyed. Forget using these images for a birth announcement; you'll be lucky to have them in time for high school graduation. We had Nichole from Obaby! come visit us in the hospital just after the birth of our little baby boy. She was prompt and gave us easy instructions for how to best prep for the session. She is extremely good about responding to phone calls and text messages. They did take a couple of weeks, which is slightly longer than I had hoped for. I am so happy that I found Obaby designs for my family pictures. Nicole, the photographer, has such an eye and a way with the kids that it was easy and fun and went quickly. I loved how the pictures turned out and we used them on our holiday cards and have them up in our house. I know people were worried about the turn around time but for us it wasn't an issue. I would definitely recommend them! The last time I had a photographer I did get the photos back immediately but the photos were not well edited and were blurry. I'm a professional photographer, but when you have a newborn, it's nice to trust another professional to get the pics, since you want to be able to experience every moment from in front of the camera, not behind it. Obaby! gave me the gift of being able to set my cameras down and enjoy being with my wife and newborn daughter. I can't tell you to ignore the reviews about the long wait for photos or the mediocre communication. But here's the sense I get, as a working professional in this field: Nichole has high standards, and she also makes a point of being available to shoot lots and lots of babies. Processing photos -- and doing it right -- takes a long time. (Doing a good job with RAW files is an art, and it's also a lot of work. This isn't like loading your snapshots into iPhoto and removing redeye.) I'd rather wait for gorgeous, well-processed photos than feel like the photographer and her staff processed them formulaically, or without paying close attention to the details. Nichole is a talented photographer, and the quality of her work surpasses pretty much any other local photographer in the baby photography business. Yes - these days lots of people can take great photos. But professionals do it consistently without flinching, and they have a mastery of their technique and their tools that comes through in their photos. That's Nichole. She conducts her shoots in a professional manner, she knows Sequoia Hospital and the staff (so she knows all the tricks to get great lighting in the different rooms), and once she pulls out her camera she works efficiently and smoothly. My wife and I were totally comfortable the whole time, and we didn't feel like we were spending our much-needed family bonding time being bossed around by a photographer. She was in and out in 15 minutes. And I can't say this enough. The photos were perfect. I'm sorry a few angry Yelpers were frustrated that they didn't have photos right away. I really liked how the photographer handled the baby during the session. She was fussy and I had them come back 3 times, hoping the baby would calm down. Finally the photographer suggested we try and see what happens. Hard to believe but she was able to calm the baby down, and on the pictures my little girl looks like an angel. My wife was ecstatic when she got the photos back from obaby designs. ..I was too, but she was extremely happy with the way they came out. I am not sure if many other hospitals offer this amenity service. I've never heard of this option before with our friends that have had babies in the past. Our experience with Nichole started out great and turned into great disappointment. We were told that the hospital had a photographer that comes and takes pictures of all newborn babies, we were having our first baby and were so excited! The photo shoot and photos came out beautiful. She gave us her number and told us to send her our email and information so she could send us a link to look at the pictures and possibly purchase, if we wanted too. November 24th, 10 days after I gave birth (thanksgiving day) I texted Nichole to see if the pictures were ready. She told me they were not quite ready and she will send me the link when they are. December 13th, a month after I gave birth I reached out to Nichole again she did not get back to me that day but she did the next day. Again the pictures were not ready. Between December 13-20 I reached out to her 4, yes FOUR TIMES. ( we really wanted to send our family Christmas cards with our new bundle of joy) time was running low and still no pictures. Finally she sent the link later that day, a month and some after our baby was born. We contemplated on buying the pictures because we were already late to send out Christmas cards and the pictures were very pricey (especially for the delay and no sense of urgency on her end) $280 to be exact. We though about it for a day and she messaged me the next day to let me know the "sale" will only be available for several more hours. We told her it was a little pricey although it was very, very sentimental we weren't sure just because the overall experience with Nichole, not being able to send out Christmas cards, waiting so long and I get photo shoots are expensive and take time to polish up, but a month and some days later I feel like that was very unprofessional and a cause for the price to be lower. What Nichole messaged us next was beyond unprofessional and why I'm writing this review, we told her it was a little pricey for 25 or so pictures and she said this "At any rate - you do not have to purchase but our prices for custom images of a priceless moment is the same cost of a few months of a cell phone bill, or a 1 mo car payment which is really no comparison." Which is really no comparison? I don't know if she ever had kids but just to think around the holidays everyone gets right on their budget plus being on maternity leave having to still pay bills and for her to tell me for sentimental pictures it's really no comparison to paying a bill. She had the audacity. She explained it took extra long because they had to touch up baby's skin because she was flakey right after birth, as I understand that but in a professional manner that should be able to fix in a week, maybe two max but not a month and some! To tell a mother you should purchase these pics it's just like paying a bill or you'll regret it later is rude and straight out unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend her services although the pictures were beautiful I feel like you pay also for the overall experience with the photographer, it's part of the service. read more

It's been 5 months since our baby was born, and we have gotten no response despite multiple emails and a VM. I'm just so sad that we made so much effort and took time in a busy period at the hospital to fit a photo session in with them, and we'll never see the pics! Please, please don't set up appointments with busy new parents if you don't actually have the time or inclination to work on their photos and get back to them in a timely and reliable fashion. To say shortly, we had a horrible experience with Obaby! Design. My advice to you is to invite your own photographer at Sequoia hospital if you want to ever see the pictures of your just-born baby. Part 1: Planning for a session. I initially learned about Obaby! from Sequoia Hospital site. Following advise on their web site, I contacted them 1 week prior my planned delivery. Only after my 3rd voicemail I got a text message saying there was basically nothing to plan; we would meet at hospital after the delivery. That's fine. Nobody contacted me for 2 days after my delivery and I texted her again. She promised to visit us the same day but didn't. It was next morning at 7am the photographer showed up. During the whole communication, I felt like I was begging her to come and take our pictures. I regretted that I relied on Obaby! and didn't invite my own photographer. Part 2: Receiving the pictures (actually, NOT receiving). After the session the next day she said the pictures should be available in 7-10 days. We waited for 4 weeks and received no word from them. Finally, I decided to contact her another time. No response again. A few days later, I received a strange email in the night saying that the pictures were delayed due to the server problem and they needed my information again. Wow! Read the 1-star comments on Yelp below and you will see that they have been having the server problems since at least 2013. Then, she told me that their phone number had changed (but she probably forgot about saying it and texted and called me from the old number later). And so on and so on... So, she finally admitted we don't get our pictures because something happened with a memory card. She offered another session, but I declined because was furious regarding the attitude towards the clients and job poorly done since the beginning of our communication. She noted that other 8 clients for whom she lost photos agreed for another session. Ok, good luck to them not to get the pictures second time! I also clearly understand that what happened was that she just overwrote or accidentally deleted or lost our pictures with somebody's else and forgot about us completely. Only when I contacted her after 1 month she realized to check her pending work. Such an unacceptable for our area attitude toward the clients and her own job! read more

Well, I called Obaby! Designs and had a great experience! Not only did the pictures turn out amazing, but I found them incredibly easy to work with. We called, scheduled our session at CPMC, and that was bascially it! The photographer was great, professional and the experience was very laid-back and effortless on our part. We recieved our pictures before I would have expected to get them back and they were absolutley perfect. I have absolutly no complaints and I have already recommended Obaby! to 4 or 5 friends and I would definitely recommend them to anybody looking to capture this very important day. read more

Three years ago our first baby was born and we loved the pictures Nicole took so much that we asked her again when our twins were born recently at the same Hospital. They are absolutely beautiful....!! We Used Obaby! for newborn photos of our second child. We had called to schedule our session and waiting to hear back from them and there customer service was a bit frustrating and we were told that they were working on a better system for the new year. The experience itself with the photographer was hands down the best! We had used a photographer from San Mateo with our first baby and the experience was not very pleasant and they werent able to capture any great photos, and were far more expensive. The photographer from Obaby was able to get and keep my newborn smiling and actually capture those moments for us. It did take longer than what we were told to receive the images- but not by much. Over all I would use them and recommned again and again. The experience of having a photographer that can capture those moments and work with your baby, for me is all that mattered. read more
