Fresh Onigiri: Spicy Tuna Mayo, Karaage, Negi Miso, Washugyu & Spicy Salmon
    Chun M.

My son turned us onto this onigiri stand inside Japan Village in Industry City because he works in the next building. I always forget, is a village smaller than a town? Anyway, he brought home some interesting onigiri flavors like shishito peppers and they were still warm, even after an almost 2hr commute. We don't get down to Brooklyn often, so decided to check this out on the weekend. All the food stalls at Japan Village don't open until 12 noon and we arrived just before that. We did some shopping in Sunrise Mart, which is right next to the line for Obentoyasan, which already had people queuing up while the workers were still loading up bento boxes into the self-serv fridge. The line moved fast and we put in our order for 5 different onigiri, just scratching the surface of the flavors they offered. We watched as they made our rice balls with the different fillings wrapped up in seaweed sheets. The individually plastic bag package makes them easy to eat, even while walking, but we took ours to the outdoor tables to enjoy. My favorite is the Karaage, with a chunk of boneless fried chicken. Make sure to get it with Japanese mayo for added flavor. The menu board has all the regular flavors and a few specials that may or may not be available that day. As we were waiting, one of the workers peeled off the label covering the Washugyu, which meant it was available to order. Along with those, we got the Spicy Tuna Mayo, Negi Miso (green onion & spicy miso) and the Spicy Salmon. We happily gobbled up 2 of them and took the rest home but they did not last until the next day once my son got a hold of them. 1 makes a nice snack, 2 a satisfying meal and 3 carbo load. Luckily, they are only $3.75 each, so we'll have to double our order next time.

I love picking up bento boxes here whenever I visit. Their bento boxes are worth the price and super tasty! Their staff are super friendly and quick with the orders. You can also get onigiris that are made on the spot. The place is always super lively and packed with people so it can be difficult to find seating.

Admittedly, not my best photo for a couple of reasons, but biggest reason was that I was extra hungry. It did cross my mind to take better photos but I forgot. At least we all know that I got a spicy salmon and tuna onigiri. The line was moving along and there were about a dozen or so of us. I did not wait too long after ordering, probably 5-10 minutes. The onigiri is quite hefty and I found the spicy salmon to be the tastier one. Head outside (if it's nice!) to chow down on the onigiri. No shame to admit that I wolfed both down in under 10 minutes.

Until I can get onigiri at 7/11, this place will have to do. They make them fresh here when you order and you can even see the shrimp's tail. Maybe one day I'll come before they run out of washyugu filling. I got shrimp tempura and mentaiko mayo which is very good. I'm not used to them being piping hot, so maybe I'm a fake asian. I brought it home to refrigerate them and they taste great. There's a line, but it moves fast.

Great place to get a quick lunch of riceballs or bento if you're in the area. I gotta give props to the bento especially because I just love how much variety there is in these things. It's like you get a smorgasbord of tastes to try out and the novelty is just great, not to mention it actually does taste good. From the croquette to the potato salad to the little shumai and karaage, you really can't go wrong with any one of their assorted bentos. Note, that they don't have a microwave to heat these up, though these bentos taste fine eaten cold.

The onigiris are so bomb here! It's the perfect snack while exploring the shops around. I picked up a Spicy Salmon Onigiri ($3.50) and Salmon Avocado Rolls ($6). There are a variety of bentos to choose from along with sushi rolls, but the onigiris are a must. For only $3.50 each, the onigiris are huge and freshly made. The rice is fluffy and soft with such flavorful fillings. Eat this right away to truly enjoy the experience.

My bf and I stopped by to pick up lunch for my family, and we were not disappointed! We arrived as soon as they opened so no wait time and everything was very fresh. We ordered 2 onigiri (spicy tuna Mayo and ume), and 4 bento's (pork Katsu, croquette, chicken teriyaki and salmon). Everything was a 10/10! The onigiri was extremely filling. My bf and I each had one and were extremely stuffed. Spicy tuna Mayo I would highly recommend buying. It is actually spicy and has so much filling. My salmon bento with fish cakes and hijiki was delicious and fresh. Everything tasted authentic and had great flavor.

The onigiri is so delicious! Spicy Tuna and Tuna are the best. The rice is perfectly warm and seasoned.

Came on a Saturday afternoon…read more Love the decor and the katana sword when you first walk in. We got seated immediately. We ordered the crunchy cabbage, marinated cucumber, crispy garlic potatoes, mushroom Tempera, a variety of skewers including the washugyu & shishito and scallop bacon and pumpkin (you can choose fried or grilled, I chose grilled styled) and the champon noodle bowl. The food comes out very fast. The cucumber was alright though I was not a fan of the WakuWaku sauce overly sweet. The cabbage was delicious but lacked flavor. Huge portion though. Then came out the skewers. The pumpkin was cold. I wasn't a fan of the washugyu & shishito one. And the scallop bacon was just eh, didn't really notice the bacon on it. Everything tempera one were my favorite. I loved the potato tempera it was perfectly fried. Esp. with the spicy miso sauce, it was fire, I was dipping everything in it. And the mushroom was even better. Enoki mushroom was delicious. Careful with the chicken karaage it comes out HOT. Massive pieces so good and juicy. Great portion. The noodle bowl is bigger than your head so I advise to only get one if you're sharing portions. I like the flavor of the soup, very soothing. Good collagen boost too! Lots of seafood in it. Perfect soup for a cold rainy day like we experienced. Theres miso cod was good but have had better. Honestly everything was good. I would just not get the cucumber dish and the skewers we ordered next time. They have some also have tatami rooms if you want more of a traditional Japanese style like restaurant. Overall, good experience. I would come back and try the tatami experience just with avoid a few dishes.

The food is good, above average and notable for the range they offer more than anything. The speciality here is the skewers, which range from organ meat to basic white meat. But they're always perfectly cooked and really satisfying, especially if you go in a small group. I'm also a huge fan of their nabeyaki udon noodle soup. The broth is SO. GOOD. It's above and beyond your basic udon soup, really flavorful and hearty -- I think it's the brown mushrooms. I'm not normally one to rave about udon, but it just really blew me away. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty, really, which also helps.

Japan Village offers two dedicated floors with a wonderous assortment of eateries, shops, and courtyard areas at Building 3/4. The Loft on the 2nd floor also offers family friendly areas that kids can enjoy. I saw they also hold events and performances on occasion, and there are also displays and information about Japanese culture and events in the NYC-area (e.g. Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Film '26 at Japan Society). I love the murals that decorate the hallways and walls in the courtyard. We had a lot of fun yesterday.

It was a fun experience for my son but my daughter has celiac disease and the only thing she could eat was ice cream. This is a common problem for her since wheat is in a ton of food. Since she is not used to this ice cream style, she didn't like it, but that's not on the vendor. My son enjoyed his ramen bowl. He said the sushi was in between a Japanese restaurant and store prepackaged and it was edible it just didnt knock his socks off. Overall a nice experience. Good thing we ran into someone who directed us to where the front of the building was. I don't come to this area of Brooklyn often, so I wanted to order everything I was interested in. I like how everything is made fresh, and portion size was good for the price. I got take out and it was a long trek home, so I took a bite out of each item at pick-up so that I could give a fair review.: Chicken Katsu Sando ($9.50) - Fried chicken was moist, white milk bread was fluffy, but I wish there was a little more tonkatsu sauce for each bite. Tamago Sando ($9) - This was my favorite item. I enjoyed the creamy chunks and the whole egg sliced in half. Eggs were not over cooked. Great balance and good flavor. White milk bread was fluffy. Tuna Mayo ($3.50) - The cooked tuna and mayo was flavorful and there is a decent amount of filling inside, but I still have my other go to place for onigiris. You have to eat this one quickly because the nori will lose the crunch since it's directly touching the rice. Eel avocado roll ($7) - I enjoyed their BBQ eel sauce, but the portion size of the eel was significantly smaller than that of the other 2 rolls. Spicy Tuna Roll ($7) - Spicy tuna was fresh and flavorful. I preferred this over the salmon avocado roll. Salmon Avocado Roll ($7) - Salmon was fresh and portion was good, but the salmon did lack the slight sweetness I enjoy from high quality raw salmon. The sushi rice for all 2 rolls was nicely made as well. There was not too much vinegar, so it did not mask the natural taste of the fish. Complemented well.

For my bowl, I got the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX. It consisted of four pieces of Chashu Pork, Bamboo Shoots, Scallions, Bean Sprouts, Cabbages, and Egg. A very simple dish but when executed right it is delicious. This was very flavorful after the first sip, I think it may be a tad salty ( as with much ramens ) but I enjoyed slurping down noodles and enjoying everything else in the bowl.
