I gave it one star for the service. It is pathetic. Every time I go there they say they are full when I see more than half of the tables empty. I only wanted to sit in the bar and eat since I was there solo and they said even the bar was full when all 100% of the seats were empty! I am in florence for work and I go there since its close to my hotel but the attitude has made me realize my money is better spent elsewhere. The food is consistently good. We attended a rehearsal dinner/cocktail party at this Obica location. The canapes were amazing, the wine list was equally impressive. the party was held in the main courtyard, very dramatic architecture and beautifully decorated. Despite the classy look of the place, it offers the worst service on the planet, with waiters walking by obviously ignoring you intentionally, despite the place being half empty. what a delightful afternoon excursion, and one of a few meals in Firenze that really stood out. In the center of the city, its a bit like a little oasis, with a huge serving room. 5 varieties or treatments of mozzarella are offered, and though I dined alone, its clear that you benefit from many fellow diners so you can enjoy the samplers. The mozzarella was delicious and more important for myself, this was the one locaion in Firenze with a sturdy beer list. The staff was delightful, the costs appropriate. So very good! We ordered the 5 cheese sampler and it does not disappoint. Great selection of textures and flavors...but it's big so be prepared for a lot of cheese! Salami was great as well and a much needed compliment to all the cheese. Beautiful setting in an old palace courtyard. read more

Stopped in for lunch July 19th and it was wonderful. Though we only had salads and crostini's, they were perfect! The cherry tomatoes were the best I've ever tasted. Must be the Italian countryside. The wine was perfect as well. Why the 4-stars instead of 5? Having to wait when there were plenty of empty tables had me perplexed. I suggest you make a reservation before you go; without a reservation, we sat at a big round table with other parties, which was fine but not ideal. The grey clad staff was very nice, but the young blonde white shirt waiter we had was rude, innatatentive and gave us for no apparent reason attitude. I'm updating my review. I still really like the food here but there is one waiter that makes eating here unpleasant. So much so that my co-workers refuse to go back. Maybe he simply has a thing about foreigners. Our multi-national group all agree that the food is tops but the service can be really spotty and this fellow needs an attitude adjustment. It almost seems as if he looks down on the patrons and even goes so far as to ignore you. Last time he did that (deciding to bring me my bill 40 minutes after I asked for it), I simply decided to tie up their public wifi by downloading Ironman to my iPad. While its normal to wait some time to get your check in Italy, if you ask for it, it usually comes within 10 minutes. I've been to this place when they were busy and not busy and this fellow is just generally unpleasant. This place offers many different mozzarella options. Big deal. The main attractive quality is the beautiful courtyard location. That was impressive. But we found the food to be just average. Somehow starving around 11 at night after the glorious aperitivo wore off, we cruised into Obika hoping for the mozzarella tasting of our dreams. As to the "tasting," unfortunately I can't say much...when we saw burrata as an option, we knew we had to apply focus. The generous helping came with a side of pesto and some delicious little cherry tomatoes, as well as bread / olive oil / balsamic vinegar to balance out our main course of...cheese. Oh but what amazing, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cheese it was. There is a lot of mozzarella options. That's about it. All of the mozzarella is the same kind of mozzarella which I personally do not enjoy. The mozzarella is called, According to Google translate, "Mozzarella of Buffalo bell". To me, it tastes a little like a strange cheese dumpling thing and it is served on lettuce and spinach whenever you order anything that has mozzarella (Everything). Since I do not like buffalo mozzarella, I just ordered some sides, like rice balls with Raghu and fried pizza dough. Meh. I enjoyed my sides, but the whole ambiance and title, "Mozzarella Bar" is very over... Promoted. I guess. If you like buffalo mozzarella, this place is definitely for you, and that is why this is 4 not 3 or 5 stars. read more

Budget a lot of time to be at this restaurant. Service is extremely slow and unresponsive. We arrived at 9pm and were seated at 9:15pm, but didn't finish our 3 course meal until 11:30pm! The salad came quite quickly but the main course came at 10:45pm! Be prepared to be ignored by the waiters. They offered to give a discount for their tardiness, which turned out to be €1.50 for the entire bill! Food was unremarkable, nothing you could not find elsewhere. This is a beautiful restaurant. We ordered the caponata which was amazing and then two pizzas (Bufala and Prosciutto Crudo) - the pizzas were good but the caponata was definitely the best part of the meal. After celebrating our anniversary the past two years at Fig & Olive ( which is amazing) This year , we decided to try a new place. After doing lots of research, we decided on Obica'. We read about the fantastic view from the back patio, the service, the food. We made reservations for 7:30 When we arrived, we were shown the back area with the view of downtown. Lets just say that the few was as unimpressive as the food. We were told that a party of 9 would be seated at 8 p.m. and it might get noisy. Since the view was blah, we decided to sit out front. Lets talk about food and drinks. We each ordered a glass of prosecco to celebrate. At $12.00 a glass, we at least thought we would get a decent pour....hahah oh so wrong. $12.00 for a third of a glass of cheap prosecco did NOT impress. We ordered the Antipasto Obica to start. Again, I am not sure what we were paying $19.00 for. A couple of the thinnest slices of salami I have ever seen, a few olives, two miniscule pieces of cheese, two small bits of prosciutto, that's it! BORING! and Skimpy! We then ordered the Burrata Salad to share. This was actually the best thing we had all night. But again, a few Pine Nuts, a few beets, some spinach , and that's it....Can someone please tell me again why people are willing to pay so much money for so little satisfaction? We ordered the Branzino, and the Duck Ragu Parpardelle for dinner. We also decided to order a glass of wine to go with dinner. Again, the pour was less than a half a small wine glass full. Can you say RIP OFF!. The Branzino was Meh.....and the skin, instead of being crispy, was soggy and unappealing. No flavor, no fresh taste, just plain boring. If the Branzio was boring, the Duck Ragu Parpardelle was even MORE boring. There was NO FLAVOR whatsoever. This is supposed to be an Italian Restaurant, but I have never in my life ate a more boring meal. I have been to Italy several times, and trust me...Italians would be embarrassed that this place claims to be serving Italian food. Places like this are for people who want to see and be seen regardless of the quality of food and drink. So if you have lots of money , and don't care what your food tastes like, by all means go to Obica' As for me, I will keep looking for a decent restaurant that serves good food, good pours, and pays less attention to image. read more

we went with a group of 6 yesterday for our first lunch in Florence. we were famished, so ordered quickly. best pizza---ever! the crust was sublime, the toppings perfect. there is one near the bottom of the pizza menu with D'jus(almost certainly spelled that wrong) with a local sausage on it that was pronounced "best thing I've ever eaten in my life" by ne of group. The caponata is perfect--and with the burrata is so decadent it is hard to believe. We are al foodies, and this was a perfect place (we sat outside) with wonderful food. you really should go out fo your way to find this (it is about 2 minute walk form the Duomo). very high end shopping area---so watch out! the lunch could end up being a rounding error in what you spend in an hour or two! read more

We came here due to the raving reviews and my craving for pizza. My husband and I each ordered a pizza and neither of us really enjoyed our pizzas. I haven't seen this much oil on a pizza in a while. My husband used the table bread solely to soak up some of the oil on his pizza! The pizza crust was the only good part. Otherwise, the rest of the pizza was lacking. Sometimes when you go to a new place you order the wrong thing and don't have a great experience because of it. Well sorry to say but tonight was a disaster for Obica. not only was everything that we ordered just terrible service was unbelievably nonexistent and embarrassing. I was actually relieved that I was not the one who suggested that we all go to this place located in a wonderful spot in town situated adjacent the best shopping but they should spend far more money training their staff and kitchen then on their interior Decour. Having visited Florence for many years I can honestly say that this place was The most disappointing experience when weighed with expectations. My spouse compared his dinner to that of airplane food. No joke. My pizza was so salty it was basically inedible. The server was honestly at our table only to take our order and deliver food we had to flag him down-basically grab him for more wine just to wash down the god awful cuisine.
