    Grilled filet with sautéed vegetables
    Gustavo G.

Absolutely amazing! So far the best restaurant we've visited in two trips to Italy. We went later in the evening and it was mostly Italian eating there. We had the filet with sautéed spinach, onion soup, and spaghetti carbonara. Absolutely loved the steak. It was tender, cooked to perfection if you like medium rare and tasty. The spinach was delicious too. The onion soup was the best ever. The spaghetti was good. Wished we would have been hungrier to sample more courses. For dessert had the tiramisu and panacotta. Both were great. Service was attentive and friendly. It wasn't loud or quiet so you could have a conversation and not feel like you were screaming. The setting makes the restaurant look upscale while the prices were reasonable.

For our last night in Florence, hubby wanted to have Florentine steak one more time. I found Trattoria San Lorenzo that was near our hotel and had it on the menu. We were a bit iffy about going at first, because we weren't sure if it would be a tourist trap. We tried to avoid any restaurants overlooking piazzas (this one overlooked Piazza di San Lorenze, hence the name) because they tend to be traps. We decided to take a risk, because it looked pretty nice, so we made reservations at the restaurant for 8 PM that night (Friday night). The food was good, but nothing amazing. To start, we had the sausage crostini. It came out a bit undercooked, and they explained that that's generally how it's cooked there. But since I'm pregnant, I didn't want to take any chances, so they were happy to make it well done for us. It was the perfect appetizer, and the sausage had a really nice flavor to it. For my main, I had the lasagna with meat sauce because I read a lot of reviews raving about it. It was good but nothing special. Hubby got the steak he was wanting and he said it was a bit chewy. After dinner, we each ordered our own dessert. He had what the waiter described as a pistachio tiramisu (which is what had caught our eye in front when we first entered the restaurant), and I had the panna cotta. Both were great, but I liked my panna cotta more. While the meal was good overall, I don't think it's a restaurant that would pull be back again if I return to Florence.

Why 5 stars? Because we were so happy we chose this place. --- --- --- Just like the night before, we probably considered eating at half of the restaurants in all of Florence before landing here. We were actually going to go to a very popular place on the same street, but they were being weird about getting a reservation. We window shopped a couple other places and then came to San Lorenzo. We wanted to try a couple specific dishes for our last meal in Italy: Prosciutto & Mozzarella and Carbonara. Those were mainstays of our Italian dining experience a few years earlier, but we hadn't had them yet during this trip. Trattoria San Lorenzo happened to have both, so we were sold! We thought we had everything we were going to eat already mapped out, everything mentioned above + one more Florentine Steak, but my wife desperately also wanted to try the lasagna. Despite neither of us being starving, we ordered an appetizer, plus three entrees and a dessert because we are psycho. Not one bite of any of it was left on any plate. All of it rocked. The only small complaint I have is that they did not have balsamic vinegar to go along with our prosciutto and mozzarella. Other than that, everything was excellent, as was the service. Oh, and we finished with panna cotta and despite all of the savory items being so amazing, the panna cotta might have actually topped everything else! Highly recommend!

Super cute restaurant in Florence near the Duomo. They have indoor and outdoor seating - recommend making a reservation if you are optimizing for outdoor dining. The menu is no fuss and no frills. Service is prompt and friendly and also pricing isn't bad for being near tourisr central. Recommend the meatballs and penne!!

Great little spot for a casual lunch! Close to the Duomo and Central Market, sitting outside is a great option if available. I went on a Wednesday around 2:30 PM and there was no wait. The employees moved some seats around to let us sit outside which was very kind of them. I had the risotto agli asparagi, porri e pecorino (risotto with asparagus and pecorino cheese). It was so yummy, especially the shavings of the pecorino! It was a perfect portion size for a late lunch before catching a flight, especially at only 10€. My friends also enjoyed the spaghetti carbonara (looked so good) and the Florentine crepes (very similar to a lasagna). I would definitely come back and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this gem!

I don't know the words to describe but it was memorable and delicious! When I come back to Florence, it will be a place to put on my list to come back!

    Triamisu SO GOOD

I was not as impressed as I was expecting to be from this place. While it was still good, there are so many places in Florence, and Italy in general, that are just as good, if not more. For the price, it definitely did not blow us out of the park. Even so, it is still a good restaurant to head to if you're in the area. I had the lasagna but the showstoper of my group was definitely the Ravioli (not pictured here) the white sauce was amazing (with a hint of lemon?). Additionally, another honorable mention was the tiramisu. While the meals were good, the tiramisu was probably the best tiramisu I have had my entire trip. This restaurant specializes in florentine steak. We did get that. It was a lot! Perhaps we had too high of expectations, we were not absolutely floored. The restaurant itself is lovely though. It has a great view of the piazza and has two floors. So while we thought there was no space on the bottom floor, there is definitely enough room upstairs. We were there during the off season so the staff let us in easily with no reservation. They did as if we had one though- so I'd recommend making one if it's during a busier season.

Tagliere di salumi e insaccati toscani con pecorini misti con confettura di frutta o verdura
    Sarah W.

My friend and I arrived late into Florence and we were tired and starving and just wanted to relax after a stressful trip in. Found this spot on Yelp and it was close so we decided to give it a shot. We had no reservation and the place was busy but they fit us in quickly. The service was excellent: quick, efficient and most of all knowledgeable. Our server picked the perfect wine for us on the first try. For food we started with Tagliere di salumi e insaccati toscani con pecorini misti con confettura di frutta o verdura (basically ham, salami, cheese and ginger jam). This was served with bread and olive oil. Each thing on that plate was divine. Then my friend had ravioli - she described it as a religious experience and I am inclined to agree. Smooth, cheesy and perfectly balanced. I tried the gnudi, a new dish to me and it is basically spinach and house-made ricotta cheese balls with tomato sauce and basil, also amazing. Sadly, half a bottle of wine in we forgot to take pics of these two! We wished we had room for dessert but yeah...not after that feast! Though the gratis chilled limoncello shot was a perfect little ending. Throughout the meal our waiter was attentive, patient and friendly. Overall just a perfect meal, service and setting.

We stumbled upon Trattoria San Lorenzo while trying to find a dinner place and were VERY pleasantly surprised. We had been walking around trying to find some nice places and were feeling hot in the dining room they had put us in. The restaurant was incredibly accommodating and moved us to another dining room with just us and turned the AC up the way we wanted. The menu is very balanced and not heavily focused on one aspect of the Italian cuisine. Our waiter (We think his name is Casa) was very attentive and kind. He gave an incredible wine pairing recommendation to my parents and I noticed him peeking into the room multiple times to make sure we were all satisfied. The decor of the restaurant was very homey and pretty. Another waiter, Simon, came in at one point and was very charismatic and gave us all a good laugh. I got the Prosciutto and Melon and it was DELICIOUS! It was so good. The Vittelo Tonnato was great as well! We also ordered the salad with the grilled veggies and mozzarella which was scrumptious. We ordered the steak with peppercorn and pappardelle with meat ragout as well. The steak was cooked to perfection and very evenly! My family had a very fun time at this restaurant. The homey atmosphere created by the kind waiters, well paired decor, and delicious food made leaving feel like leaving home. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. Definitely will be back sometime soon hopefully. This is a place I highly recommend to everyone. Come and try it out for yourselves.

For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.
