If you've never been to OCF, go check it out and spend some time talking to the guys there. I agree with another reviewer that this place really deserves to have more business (when you consider there are people who wait over an hour at Riflegear daily just to pick up weapons they already completed paperwork for). Nothing against Riflegear. They're a great outfit and I myself have personally spent tens of thousands of dollars there. But, many people aren't aware of and overlook OC Firearms, I believe, primarily because of the non-prime location.
Once there, you're always greeted by a group of great guys who are friendly and genuinely enthusiastic about helping you with your firearm needs. For those who are newbies to this (highly addictive) hobby, this is a great place to have your questions answered without feeling intimidated. There's never pressure to buy or rush. You can take your time without feeling like you're getting rushed out of the store. Other shops may remind you of the soup Nazi line that Jerry Seinfeld frequently waited in, or a line at a packed butcher shop. OCF, on the other hand feels more like a leisurely café.
On the question of whether there's someone secretly firing your weapon, that is a pretty ridiculous assertion. Yes, every gun has already been fired at the factory, so unfortunately, you will never be the first to fire it. Personally, I prefer it that way. Regardless, my feeling is that if the guy with the Ferrari is comfortable leaving his car at a valet (with 17 year old kids working), you can feel comfortable that Steve's crew (some of whom work with law enforcement) would be less than slightly interested about sneaking away to put a few rounds through the $500 M&P or Glock you purchased. It's pretty fair to assume, given the access they have to a wide range of firearms, that they don't get their thrills from shooting your gun during your wait period. I think that covers most of us. Now, if you're the exception and are doing SSEs on Wilson Combat Supergrade or Nighthawks on a regular basis, well I'd assume you're already on a first name basis with whomever you're working with on a regular basis to handle the transfer. Either way, it shouldn't be a worry.
To be fair, I can imagine the following taking place. As an observation, these guys are always happy to show you any gun in their case. It's important to note they really don't baby the guns at OCF. What I mean is, they don't treat it like a shopping trip at Tiffany's or Niemen Marcus. They don't mind you touching the merchandise and don't put everything on padded trays before showing you. Nor do they expect their customers to tip toe around the product. As a result, I have seen folks pick up guns while I was in the shop, look them over, then place them back directly on the glass without a thought. In this situation, I could imagine that once in a while this could potentially leave a miniscule mark on one of the gun's corners or surfaces. But, it's unlikely. Come on now, we're talking about a gun, not a vase, and I would hope any gun is durable enough to withstand being handled just slightly.
A few general comments: My understanding is that OCF is in the process of moving to a new location down the street. As a result the store room/warehouse is less organized than it can be. Also due to limited space, it tends to get a little hectic whenever a large shipment arrives at the store. I admit to having observed that it sometimes takes longer than you'd expect for them to dig up the gun you're picking up after the 10 day period. But, they do always find it, with the only impact being that I have occasionally spent a few extra minutes browsing or talking to the other folks in the store (which I don't mind doing). (Note I did dock one star for organization, but, I'll update the rating after I check out the new location).
I agree with a previous reviewer that this place really should have more business. I think they could really benefit from a better location that is not only easier to find, but, maybe that has a more functional sales area and more storage. Right now, the lack of display area can sometimes incorrectly suggest a lack of product. No shop carries everything or has a surplus of inventory (especially during the current firearm frenzy) and these guys are no exception. What they excel at is their willingness to be helpful and work with you do find and get what you want. I've always enjoyed my interactions at OCF and have procured and/or transferred numerous firearms through OCF without a hitch. For starters, they seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. So give these guys a shot. They can take care of any of your FFL, DROS, PPT, SSE needs and I believe charge fairly for these services. You won't be disappointed. read more
