It turns out that this will soon be my home on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings for Roller Derby Practice. It's also the home rink for the OC Roller Derby Girls! There was a roller derby game on Saturday night, so I came here to check out, what I was getting into! It wasn't the easiest place to spot, if we hadn't seen someone holding up the sign for the rink, we would have missed it. The parking lot was big and there was plenty of parking all around, so we didn't have to worry about not finding a spot. The front section had about 5 booths set up all along both sides, with a beer booth at the end! From what I saw, there was no limit to the amount of beer you could purchase during the game! There were two rinks, but only one was used that night. There were large bleachers set up next to each rink, for everyone's viewing pleasure and between each rink, there were scattered tables and chairs. They also had a decent sized snack bar across from the rinks and at the front entrance, two vending machines. I wasn't hungry when we went, so I just bought a tub of popcorn and a soda. I did see (and smell) a few warm pretzels and hot dogs making their way past me! Towards the back, past the 2nd rink, was the rest area, dressing rooms. Apparently there is more, but since I wasn't part of the team yet, I couldn't go past the 2nd rink! Overall, not a bad place! read more

I had never been to the rinks before but I wanted to check out the OC roller derby for my birthday and I really enjoyed it. I wish they had turned out the lights as I see they do from some of the pictures posted by other reviewers, but nonetheless it was a great time. We knew NOTHING about the rules of the game, but a couple of friendly attendees filled us in. We did pay extra for the VIP bleacher seats, but when I saw that the general seating was on the rink itself I kind of wish I would have gone with those tickets instead. They did have wine and beer, so that was great for us and we also liked the live music. I also liked that it was a place friendly to both adult groups and groups with kids. I would definitely want to go again. Wish they would have had at least a few more food trucks though as the one that was there ran out of a lot of their menu items early on. read more

Having played in Anaheim, Westminster, Irvine, and other places, this is one of the worst. I speak as both a player and a parent of a player. They are so disorganized and the place is always dirty. One night our team had a double header. Not only did we have to change locker rooms between the games, but they even had us changing to a different rink. When we asked to be able to stay in the same locker room, the person at the front desk said she did not know how to fix it. Just one example of incompetence, both in the initial daily schedule and not being capable of correcting the problem. The bathrooms are in desperate need of improvement. There is no hot water. The floors in the two primary bathrooms are tiled, which is not good when you are wearing skates. It is a rare treat when games actually start on time. Some players even arrive late knowing the games won't be on time. And the later the start time the worse it is. The refs don't seem to care, about the start times or managing a game. The score keepers are even worse. They are too busy playing on their phones to record accurate player stats. They are setting themselves up for a law suit by only having one ref for women's games when men's games get two refs, and both pay the same fee. There is a lot to be desired. They added a third rink, which was great. They added nice banners of Ducks players. A few more changes in the right direction and it could be good once again. read more

Never been to a roller rink in my life and let along watch Roller Derby at all. So this was my first experience on Saturday with a few friends to go see some Girls get down and busy and beat other girls. We went to the event it was so packed and even getting through the door was quite a while. The seats are kinna weird meaning I would suggest getting VIP instead of getting general admission. The VIP is sectioned off and you are able to be seated on high bleachers which makes it easy to see the track. The other general admission is that it gets full and if you didn't go there early then you won't even be able to see the girls at all. I enjoyed watching them try to score against each other but one thing I didn't like about this place is the sound of the commentator was really hard to understand and I barely knew what he was trying to say !! If you've never been, its worth a try to go and see what Roller Derby is all about. Those girls are physically fit to strain their bodies and score some points to win the game !! Sadly the home team lost by I think 1 point or so...it was a close game and maybe next month it will be better. read more

This place is formerly known as Coast 2 Coast inline which is now called The Rinks and is owned by the NHL team the Ducks. This place has always been solid, but now that Ducks bought it out they are really revamping the place. New floors on the rinks, rumored that a new third rink is opening up, nice staff and refs and good amount of leagues/teams that have seasons ongoing through the whole year. Reviewing this place as a player I give it five stars. I've been playing here for about ten years now and have never had major problems, the leagues are managed really well by the staff and the games are reffed fairly. The court and the variance of leagues can't be beat. They charge you by team here so if you have 8 guys it comes out to about $150 a season which is pocket change compared to ice hockey. I also love that they have pickup sessions daily from 2:30-4:30 for just $5, great deal and there are always people that show up to play. They have a pro shop and the two guys that work there are excellent! Really know their stuff, snack bar, arcade area, nice bleacher area for fans to watch games. This place is the best in Southern California without a doubt when it comes to inline roller hockey. Much better than 949 and the outdoor place on Knott and Chapman. Easily gets five star from me. Honestly, if you are a serious roller hockey player and/or want the nicest place to play come here. My only complaints about this place is that they don't keep individual stats! Which seems petty but it's just something I wished that they did, even more frustrating thing is that they used to but for whatever reason they just don't now. You guys really need to implement that again. Also, this doesn't bother me since I'm a night owl, but for those who have work early the next morning or want to get to bed at a decent hour, the time schedule of the games'll probably bug you. For my Wed and Fri league both the times are always either 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, and I can't believe I am even typing this but yes, even 11:30 games. I have four 11:30 games this season... Other than times of games and no stat keeping this place is fantastic. read more

Good Price & Nice Facility - Management...EH! Let me Preface this by Saving I have played hockey for 15 years, Been A Referee for many of those, and also worked as a Director at 2 rinks. So I have been around the block and Played at more than 10 rinks here in the southern California! The Good - The Rink is the best Facility I currently play at. The surface is clean, the benches are nice, and the decor is Awesome! And the competition is good here...lots of fun! The Referee's are also very experienced and the best at any rink I play at. The Bad...where to start? (this is all within the LAST 3 MONTHS) -Lazy Staff, Someone spilled some water on the bench the game before. I asked the scorekeeper for some paper towels which they usually have on hand. He said there were none. So I asked him to please call or grab for some at Intermission....he told me to "get them myself." WTF I mean I would gladly do this when I worked at a hockey rink...liability and all with water on the rink RIGHT????? -Twice in the last few months I have had DOUBLE HEADERS with a 2 HOUR BREAK In between the games! That's 5 hours they expect up to spend at the RINK????? -The first week of Sheduled play both teams ended up forefitting their games (SUN & WED). Bummer huh since I drove all the way to the rink each time before learning of the forefits! -No Stats, every other rink I currently play at or have every played at keeps player stats. Not here! -Try Calling the Front Desk...I bet you no one answers. I have called probably 10 times both night and day in the past and always get an answering machine! -I will say that I do see Mike Urbano watching most the games as well as working behind the front desk. I love the rink and its the closest (roller rink) to my house which is why I play here. But the Management and Scheduling is so bad that nothing really shocks me concerning this rink. Even the 2 hour break (2xs in the last year) in between double headers didn't surprise me! Can't Comprehend why its so bad. And I really want to love this rink since I have been playing here since 2003 but am disappointed by something every few months! read more

Awesome arena for in-line hockey. They have two huge regulation size rinks with boards. My admirers can sit in the bleachers and cheer for me while I rewrite the inline hockey record books =) It costs about $150 per season of hockey-about 10 games. Came to The Rinks to partake in the Roller Derby madness. Things worth noting: 1. Parking is free and plentiful. 2. The place is somewhat non-descript so you have to pay attention to know where you're going. There is a guy waving a giant arrow sign right at the parking entrance. 3. People with VIP seating or pre-printed tickets get in first. Then will-call is allowed in last. 4. When you first enter, you'll encounter quite a few vendors trying to sell you some derby related clothing and food. Skip it and come back to it later! Reserve seats with a coat and then go check out the scene. 5. When you first enter the rink, go to the far end and sit in the first row to get the best seating. I only say this because the seating there gives you direct view of the scoreboard and the roller derby ladies. As mentioned before, put your coat on your seat and enjoy the vendors. It will take about 30+ minutes before the derby actually starts. 6. Most vendors do take credit cards (outside of the usual cash/check). However! I recommend bringing cash anyway because I'll restrict you from major impulse buying. 7. To the left side of the building (midway through) you'll notice the snack bar. Warning!!! You are NOT allowed to bring food or drink onto the rink. It's a bummer, I know... but we want to keep the rink sticky-free and prevent the ladies from tripping from potential spillage. 8. Deeper into the left side of the building, there's a mini-arcade. House of the Dead anyone? I would have to say that the venue provided a pretty solid and consistent experience. I was glad to see that people of all ages coming. So, I'd totally recommend this for family and friends for some light-hearted fun. And the roller derby was, needless to say, awesome. Terry, I don't think you will get it no matter what I say but I'm going to say this once again, These are young boys and girls and you just can't know what a team will do after you put them together. I heard your son is a pretty good player today... I also heard he didn't show up to his playoff game and his team won. Feel free to have your son talk to me anytime, in fact I'd be glad to coach him. I already told you my son lost 9 games in a season and 8 games his second season. I didn't have a problem with that outcome and neither did he. I've coached National champions that lost many times before they became great in fact, I lost for about 3 years before I even made it to nationals and didn't win nationals till much later. Maybe my dad taught me that its not about winning, its about personal growth. Improving and learning. If you are all about winning when your kid is 8 you are asking to be let down. I'm gonna say it--OC ROLLER GIRLS!!!!!! If I weren't such wimp, I'd probably enjoy joining a roller derby team, but for now, I sure do enjoy coming to the bouts here instead. Though The Rinks is a local chain, it's nice to see this place transformed into a really great location for roller derby teams to compete in a fun environment and to actually have tons of fans of all ages and interests show up to the support them. The teams that play are always great, and there is usually a live band and food trucks as well (Dogzilla, The Lime Truck!) I agree with other reviewers--clean facilities, easy lay-out, plenty of parking, and a great time in general. There are always a lot of vendors and booths (raffles! bake sales! Roller derby merchandise!) at the bouts, too, which is fun, most of it supports charities or the teams. My favorite? When Black Market Bakery shows up...yum! My favorite again? Great ticket prices (around $6!) on Goldstar.com or just buy them on the OC Roller Girls website for around $13. Believe me, it's a lot of bang for your buck. For now at this location it's flat track bouts, but as far as I know, the teams have some banked track bouts lined up--bouts are about once a month. Facility: The facility itself is alright, the lighting could be better, but the tiles are generally in good shape. Some are damaged/cracked, but it not too big of a deal. The locker rooms are generally well kept, and the bathrooms are clean. Leagues: Unfortunately this is the only nearby indoor facility, and it's hard to use outdoor rinks during the winter when it rains. The leagues are haphazardly thrown together, and the reffing is hit or miss (more miss than hit). Many of the refs seem to have personal relationships with the players, and don't really call the games fairly. They tend to call penalties for teams that complain a lot, which is retarded. It's frustrating to play in that type of situation, but the alternative is commuting large distances or not play at all. Administrative: They force you to pay a yearly membership fee, which sounds like a decent deal, but many of the "perks" that come with membership are completely false. The card says that you get 50% off for pickup/public skating sessions; however that is a complete lie. They charge everyone the same amount regardless of membership status and when confronted about it, they just lie to your face. Staff: Some of the staff is very friendly and inviting (I can think of 2 people, Ron and another girl that works the front desk), but the majority treat you like you're an inconvenience when you show up to pay. They're not friendly at all and could care less when you bring up concerns about the facility, like glass on the rink from a cracked overhead light or wet spots on the rink. Overall: Pretty lame. If you just want a place to play pickup it's good, but if you plan on playing in a league, expect disappointment. Poor scheduling mixed with atrocious reffing. It's not often you want to run the ref more than someone on the apposing team.... read more

This is a great place for kids and adults who are kids at heart. They have three or four roller rinks ready for roller derby and whatever indoor sport you like. They have adult hockey, kid hockey, box lacrosse, and who knows what else. The pro shop and front desk are low key and the facilities are geared around the players and not so much for the fans. The rinks have a few stands for spectators. They have locker rooms for your teams and a website for information. For box lacrosse players, this might be your only stop in SoCal. read more

I have been playing at the rinks for just about my whole life. There is a reason it is still around. James Irwin at the front desk has really turned the place around these past couple years! He is great with managing the rink, and taking care of what ever needs you might have. My 7 year old son fell in love with street hockey at the grand opening of the ARTIC transportation hub where The Ducks sponsored an rink so on a recent Friday night, we drove up for a practice here and were so impressed, we signed up on the spot. There are several indoor rinks for street and inline hockey, clean benches, a good, reasonably priced snack stand and a shop staffed by knowledgable employees who get it. Melissa at the front desk helped us sign up after our practice session and we proceeded to get the basic equipment in the shop. The games usually start right on time and there's always a ref. The coaches are great and the community--especially the moms--have been very welcoming. For those of you who remember Skate Ranch off the 5 Freeway here in OC (i'm dating myself) it kinda reminds me of that well-loved place, somewhere kids can learn skate basics and in this case, the rules of hockey. For us, the practices and games work well with our schedule and there's always something to look forward to. For us, it's been a great experience. We're really happy we found The Rinks and look forward to spending a lot more time here in the future. read more

Just finished my first adult men's league here and had a blast. For what we pay You really can't have high expectations but mine were met and exceeded. Staff was always friendly, place is typically well cleaned and refs are refs. I love how acomodating they are to moving our super late games to a different day at an earlier time. Im so glad that someone has left a review for this place and i hope more people do i have been playing here since it opened, There are very few roller hockey rinks around anymore and the not-so-good ones have closed. This place has everything you need. They have about 10 different skill level divisions for kids, another 10 for adults, a special one for men over 40, a special one for women only. flat screen with tons of chairs to watch the hockey game or other important sports games on. A totally fair price of a returning team only less than 140 a season which is 10 games plus playoffs if you make it. They keep track of your records when you score which is always fun for personally reasons and competitive. They also offer great working opportunities for kids as refs and score keepers. There is a pro shop there where you get discounts on things if you play there. I hope this place is still here when im old cuz i still will be there. read more
