I brought in my mother's 1940 very worn, brown, alligator pumps and a matching purse with a ripped strap, and they went to work. They secured an alligator hide to remake the leather purse strap. They relined the bag and the shoes. When finished (which took about 4 weeks, due to waiting for the alligator hide) this pair of shoes with the matching bag looked like new. I've also had Occhicone re-dye a Coach bag, repair a briefcase, fix many pairs of shoes for me. I have a special pair of Ferragamos that fit me like a glove, and I bring them in every year for rehab. After 15 years, they look new. I give Occhicone 5 stars! PS, they could do much better answering their voice messages. I sent them a post card asking them to call me. read more

Let me tell all of you that may read this. I never do postings unless exceptionable circumstances and this is one of them. I had a very expensive leather portfolio briefcase my wife gave me pre covid xmas gift. Was from Paul Stuart. It had one of those combination lock on latch closure you can set yourself. Product came without instructions. So one day tried to reset combo and locked myself out. Long story short, wife brought to Occhio. They sourced new clasp lock that matched existing hardware. Not only that, new clasp didn't cover old one so they had to fill in gap areas. End of day incredible job. Gap is unnoticeable. Seven stars to them. And they know how to be customer service friendly. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! I brought a pair of Stewart Weitzman evening shoes back to the Saks on Greenwich Ave to have them repaired. The sales associate recommended that I bring them here to have them fixed instead. BIG MISTAKE! Among other problems with the repair, they put the wrong size lifts on the bottom of the heel and-- instead of recovering the heel in similar gold leather as the rest of the shoe -- they recovered it in a nude leather and then SPRAY PAINTED IT GOLD!!! I only wish I was joking. I literally paid $50 (yes, FIFTY STINKIN' DOLLARS) to have my expensive evening shoes look like utter crap. What's even worse, it cost me an additional $60 to undo all the damage they caused. Word to the wise: go to B. Nelson's in Manhattan if your shoes need any doctoring (if you don't feel like schlepping into the city, you can always mail your shoes to them). read more

While Joe can deliver an odd repair now and then, one is best served by discussing the actual repair of any item, whether a shoe or handbag beforehand to ensure you will be pleased with the final repair. A few months ago I brought in a Fendi bag because one side ripped where the strap meets the bag. I asked them to replace the little leather SQUARES on BOTH sides if they couldn't get the ripped one exactly like the other side. I was told $70. When I picked up the bag they charged $35 because they only repaired the one ripped side and they used an OVAL piece of leather that looks nothing like the square on the other side! It was such bad quality stitching I paid and left knowing I would never bring a high end bag there again. I wish I could post pictures to show how bad it looks. Three weeks ago I brought a pair of heels in that needed the little rubber pieces at the bottom replaced and I also brought one tory burch flip flop because the leather in between the toe had come apart from the base... I waited forever, the only way they could go any slower is if they were in reverse. He said he would have to lift the leather from the sole and it would be $35. I took it to Chillemi in White Plains who also said he'd have to reattach it from underneath and it would be $4. F.O.U.R. I picked up my heels (rubber replacement on both heels) and they charged me EIGHTEENS dollars, Chillemi charges $7.... While at Chillemis I was telling them about the horrible work and prices and the girl being helped next to me pulled out her occhicone ticket and said she dropped a bag off there in mid aug and as of October 10th it's still not done. The are slow, over priced and do horrible work, my ruined fendi bag proves that. RUN DON'T WALK FROM THIS PLACE!!! read more

I used to bring all my leather items in to be repaired, even suitcases. The owners are very friendly and super hard workers. They are craftsman. They work miracles. They can fix anything! There daughter that seems to be running the store is such a bitch. She is rude, not a happy person either. She needs medication if she is going to deal with people 5 days a week. What a mistake having her run the shop! The prices are not consistant at all. She talks down to you. She is miserable, and she does not try to hide it! Actually, who ever is doing the repairs, are not the owners. They must have hired some new help because the workmanship is not the same. Its very sad because they used to have such a great reputation. Customers come from all over the tri-state area, even Florida, to get there shoes, bags etc... repaired. I, unfortunateldo, not see this bussiness lasting too long with the way the next generation is running the store. They used to do great work, now, not so much. They lost me as a customer. I have a shoe and bag addiction. I gave them alot of bussiness. There are a couple of decent shoe repair places in the Greenwich,Ct. Portchester area that I will now go to. The other local shoe repair stores work was no comparison to what Occhicone used to do. The Occhicone, the parents, are true craftsman. Its really to bad that this indusrty is dying. A dying service, delivers brainless work. I had a leather jacket, very rare vintage piece from the 40s, to have some small pocket corner re-sewn back onto the main body panel, the pocket is a patch pocket on top of another patch pocket, the classic D-pocket motorcycle jacket style. The small patch pocket should not be sewn into the main body panel but only onto the D patch, because there is a vertical zipper opening on the straight edge of the D pocket. I thought this is obvious enough to see that there is supposed to be a pocket, but, some brainless worker sewn the three layers completely shut!!! This is as stupid as trying to REPAIR a pocket by REMOVING it or Sew it shut. $34 for this work. So much for Italian craftsmanship these days, I can send it to any Chinese sweatshop to get a better job. read more

I called to ask for a quote on the price of cleaning a light blue / turquoise colored Car Shoe bag that retailed for $1,500. I wanted to make sure they don't use silicone or chemicals that will harm the bag, so I asked the woman who answered the phone: do they use chemicals? She said "of course!" I then asked did they use mink oil to condition- her response: "of course!" She stated she could not give me a quote, other than to say it would be "$75 and up." Whoever it is they use to answer the phone needs to be taught proper telephone technique for answering questions other than "of course!" in an exasperated / annoyed tone of voice which I must have got like 5-6 times from her. These people, if they expect to compete with other businesses, need to know that is not how you treat clients. If we call, we will pay, it's not like we're getting a free service or charity, so treat your customers like the lifeblood of your company, because without customers, your business will decline. Suffice it to say, just talking to that lady was enough for me to NOT want to give them my business. I'll look elsewhere, somewhere where I'll feel valued as a customer. The absolute BEST! I have taken so many heels that have gotten scuffed from nights out, booties and suede shoes and they have all came back looking brand spanking new! Charged about $20 I believe for each pair. Amazing work. I also had a Tory leather brown bag that I wasn't using because I had left it on a table that was sticky and when I lifted the bag, the leather peeled. I was so disappointed. My bf recommended this place and I went with it. They charged $80 to fix this $500 bag and OMG. You would never be able to tell that it was once ruined. I have No idea how they were able to match the brown/tan color tone and make it look even. I was in disbelief and soooo happy! Super quick too. I have never had an issue. LUXURY GOODS OWNERS BEWARE... NOT OUR KIND OF PLACE. I dropped off two items at Occhicone: 1) a tumi rollerboard suitcase to have the handle repaired 2) a one of a kind double breasted leather car coat that needed patching and restoration. Rose, the owner's wife said 2 weeks for both. 3 weeks later, I called and Rose told me both items were fixed and ready for pick-up. When I arrived at the shop, I waited 30 minutes before Rose told me that neither item had been repaired -- they hadn't even started working on either item. I explained I was heading on a business trip and needed both fixed, Joe, the owner shrugged and said, "what do you want me to do about it...?" Not so much as an apology or offer to rush the repair. I took both of my items back. I bought another suitcase for my trip, and I'll get my leather coat fixed at Superior Leather on 5th Ave because based on their attitude and disorganization, I wouldn't trust Occhicone to fix a luxury item like a leather coat or to stand by their work. The most horrible experience!!....they made a horrible repair and extremely expensive. They changed the boots sole from leather to rubber! Which broke instantly. I went to complain and they lied up to their teeth, saying that I they always were rubber. I called the company I bought them from, they confirmed the sole was leather.
