Our friends were next door in 308, so that was cool. Whenever we want a little weekend getaway staycation, the OB Hotel is always our first choice. The rooms are small, but great. Pet-friendly? Yes. Worth $420 a night? Absolutely not. The location is the one thing this hotel has going for it -- you're steps from the beach and that's genuinely great. The property is kept up and the courtyard is nice. Rooms were clean with working AC. But here's the reality: rooms are tiny, bathrooms are tinier, and the walls might as well not exist. The people above us kept us up from 11 PM to 4 AM -- on a $420/night stay. Parking is a joke if you have anything bigger than a compact car. And there's a large homeless encampment situation in the immediate area that may be a concern for some guests. We came with our dogs hoping for a patio room and didn't get one. Not a dealbreaker, but for what they're charging, you'd expect more. We will not be back. read more

Would not stay here again. This hotel is not good for families with small children or anyone that is not stick skinny. It is very old and dirty and needs an upgrade. I didnt check for bedbugs but I felt super itchy as if bugs were crawling on me when sleeping during my entire stay. There is an odd narrow path when walking into our room and also no room to sit on the toilet properly without having the sink in your face. It would be a plus if you plan on brushing your teeth while taking a dump. The shower was extremely filthy with chunks of dirt in the shower. The shower head is stuck and doesnt move which could explain why the maids cannot properly clean it. There is also no screen when you open the window so we constantly had annoying gnats flying around. We brought our 1 year old and 6 year old but could not give them a bath properly in a filthy shower, we all could not use the toilet properly, and we had to make sure they stayed away from the window. I've uploaded pictures of these issues so you can see it for yourself. It's unfortunate because we grew up in San Diego and moved out of state. We wanted a hotel to visit regularly every summer that is on the beach but this was not it. read more

I booked a stay at Ocean Beach Hotel for June 27 with parking included in my reservation. Over three weeks before my check-in, I received a message informing me that parking would be closed all day (4am-10pm) due to their annual street fair and chili cook-off. This should have been disclosed at the time of booking -- not dropped on a guest weeks later as an afterthought. I am currently recovering from a broken wrist and an injured hip, which makes walking long distances impossible. Parking wasn't a convenience for me -- it was a necessity. I had no choice but to cancel. What made this even more unacceptable was the response: no apology, no alternatives offered, no compensation -- just a short message with a phone number. For a hotel that knowingly sells parking-included bookings during a day when parking is completely unavailable, that is simply not good enough. This was meant to be a birthday celebration. Those plans are now ruined. If you have mobility limitations or are relying on an included amenity, be warned that this hotel does not communicate important information upfront or make any effort to make it right. This is a very cute and charming place! Location, location, location ...the best! It's across the street from the beach and a few steps from local eateries and shopping!! The options are endless! Ice cream parlor, Açaí, smoothies, great food.. the seafood nearby was amazing and the prices were so reasonable!! We got in late and the lady that checked us in was so friendly. The rooms are small but everything was clean and in working order! The people in OB were all friendly and it was easy to strike up a conversation with them. Would NOT recommend staying here which says a lot because we have stayed here in the past. The walls are paper thin and you can hear full conversation from your neighboring rooms, the court yard, and the street is a crackheads dream. Constant partying in the streets with loud instruments and yelling late into the night. LOTS of homeless people laying around, you struggle to find a spot to sit on the board walk that doesn't have a homeless person laying around. The pier (which was our fav part of the area) has been closed since Oct 2023 due to structural damage and the hotel failed to mention this when we booked. The Starbucks that used to be a block up has closed. No elevator at the hotel, and when we checked in we were greeted by a very large dead (hopefully) cockroach. However where there is one roach, there is more to follow, there was also a very heavy scent of bleach being used. Listen to the reviews, the toilet is basically under the sink and you have to use the toilet sideways if you are taller than 5'7. The only positive was the great shops and restaurants near by!! BBQ House was 10/10 and of course Hodads burgers! read more

Owner of the O B Hotel, Rich Grosch, is heavily involved in the National Woodie Club and the San Diego Woodie Club just to mention two. His vehicle, is the lead Woody and has a lot of fun with the crowd as the two seagulls perched on outriggers, gently sprinkle the crowd with water as a joke.!! The hotel is older and it shows but plenty nice enough to lay your head, grab a shower use the bathroom and store perishables in the hotel -sized fridges. The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, and a gift store with O B "merch" and freezer case has many goodies like Dove bars and ice cream sandwiches, beer, wine, ice, soda, snacks and much more! Great location that you'll be paying for. It's right across the street from the beach, if you want to get closer you'll have to sleep in the sand. There is also all of the Ocean Beach bars and hotels very close, so take advantage. Rooms are small but there is some seating at the upper level and in the courtyard that gives you space to enjoy. Staff was quick to help when we had an issue and while we couldn't get a different room the air did work for a time after it was fixed. I'm happy with my stay this far. We are in town for a concert. Had a staycation to celebrate a friend's birthday recently and wanted to be close to a venue nearby. It was perfect! The bedrooms we had were unique in that the the room was split so that the beds weren't side by side so it was nice having a little separation. Our rooms were clean with great views. Coming from out of town and it being a busy night because of Valentines Day, I parked in their parking lot to access the ice cream spot across the street because it was the only place within a half mile radius to park. So, I exit my car to get the ice cream and come right back which took about 20 minutes. Within that time, the front office staff (one short dude with dark hair and another dude that was tall) proceeded to put a "boot" device on my back right tire that locks around the rim so I cannot move my car. I go to the front office and ask these two gentleman how do I go about removing the "boot" from around my rim and tire? Short dude with dark hair said "We are over booked tonight and noticed you didn't have a parking pass so we put that device on your car." I then apologized, and said okay how do we get it off? He then told me with much attitude I would need to pay a $100 inconvenience fee to him in CASH to remove said device. This really threw me off as I have NEVER heard of this method being used. $100 is pretty steep for a simple mistake coming from someone who isn't familiar with the polices! I feel like I've been robbed. I don't know who that money went too, I feel as though he pocketed my money and is doing the same to other clueless, innocent out-of-towners. Moral of the story, DONT PARK HERE OR YOU WILL BE SCAMMED OUT OF $100 ON THE NIGHT OF VALENTINE'S DAY. I'm truly disgusted. This makes me think twice about how this business is ran. read more

A bit pricey but it was totally worth it to be steps away from the beach. Free parking included with your stay plus they have a private outdoor shower to rinse off before you go back to your room. The room was spacious and we had a large patio for our dog to hangout in while we were away. They also have a bunch of outdoor seating to sit and enjoy the beach views while you eat or drink. You got Mike's Tacos and Hodads right next door plus a bunch of shops nearby if you need any beach toys like boogie boards, volleyballs, firewood for bonfires. It's a lively area, especially on the weekends, but it quieted down by 11pm so we had no issues. My family had a blast during our 3 days in OB! read more

We were super excited to stay here as the location was perfect and we were hoping to watch the sunset of the beach and walk around all the shops nearby. Upon first entry the room smelled strange and very very humid. I opened up the window and realized we didn't have a screen. There were also large gaps in the door so we could hear clearly everyone outside, and they could hear us. After sitting on the bed we realized black and white stains on our bedding, which we were really grossed out by. We went to the front desk and they provided us new sheets which turned out to have red stains... after this we did not feel comfortable staying here, as we were really grossed out and it just felt unsanitary. We ended up leaving the same day we checked in and lost $250 dollars. (I do want to note the older man at the front desk was very kind and felt bad we had this experience.) Recently renovated but small rooms. That is expected for a near the beach hotel. Probably too small for us and our two small dogs in the pet only rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was great. A little overpriced for what you get. Nice they take pets. Free parking was nice. It sits on one end a downtown reminiscent of a throw back to the 70's. Did not feel very safe with the homeless frequenting the area but had no issues. Very friendly neighborhood. Check out the souvenir shops including the one at the hotel. Great places to eat with reasonable prices near the property. Worth considering if you are looking for a place to stay in a laid back beach town. read more

I have stayed here with my boyfriend twice now, it is a Great location with great service. The building is a little worn down and you can see the salt damage on the outdoors, but I can't complain, this hotel is RIGHT ACTOSS THE STREET from the ocean. Dogs being allowed is a huge plus as well. Located across the street from the beach and pier this hotel was very good. It looks like a new hotel due to upgrades such as new windows, a beautiful 3-story deck that faces the ocean and a refrigerator. We parked in the hotel parking lot and free parking for one car. We never moved the car during a two-nite stay since there were stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. The staff was wonderful too. Unfortunately there is no elevator. I suggest that the hotel consider installing a live-stream camera with a view of the park and ocean across the street. It would result in considerable interest by potential clients. read more

They illegally put boots on cars. I went to pick up food and literally walked back 2-3 min later and they clearly use predatory practice doing this. LISTEN! Stay here so you can be DIRECTLY ACROSS the beach! That's why I chose it. You have a great view of the ocean from the hotel's balcony and it's easy access to the beach and the pier. The hotel is old and not luxury by any means. It's more of a motel but the price was great, the room was clean, and I never felt unsafe. I was here for the beach, and it was super convenient! I would give the place 3.5 stars if I could. First off, it is not cheap. We stayed Wednesday thru Friday on a holiday weekend so maybe that's why?? The rooms are small and so is the bathroom. It's close to an airport so you'll hear jets taking off early in the morning. It's in a prime location so be prepared to run into the local homeless community. So the positives.... It's in a PRIME location! It's literally 50 feet to the beach. With great views from the balcony. It's walking distance to all the stores and restaurants which are plentiful! Every local mom and pop stores are so unique and there are even special vendors occasionally. Wednesday nites they have their farmers market which is an eyegasm for even the pickiest eaters. So, I want to give this place way more stars because the location is prime, but beware that it's pretty noisy here on the weekends. I don't know who lives next door but their music had my walls rattling until 3AM and if there's an event across the street, expect most people to stay at the hotel. They'll probably be partying in the balconies of the place until 3AM as well (and not quietly). We were put in the corner room by the exit door and you'll hear it slam every time. Eventually, I had to go buy earplugs to finally get some sleep. But, I will say that it's likely id be willing to stay here again as long as I pack some ear plugs because the location is perfect, their staff is super friendly and my dogs loved it. read more

This used to be a $100 to$150 per night hotel. Granted, it is in the best location in town. However, 272/night? After a 10 % discount? That's baffling even for 2021. Aside from the insanity of the price gouge, the last time we stayed here, a couple of drunks who had ZERO disregard for... anyone else, thought it would be cool to stand right outside OUR room and continue to drink at around 1240ish. Of course they moved away from their own room so whoever could sleep lol, but no common sense for anyone else. Anyways, not my place to call em out and get into the mix so we called the night personnel n asked them to handle it. What did the staff do? They literally told the guys unit number ××× called and complained lol. WTF? Thanks OB. If I wanted to put a target directly on my room, I would have just stepped out and handled it myself. Luckily that was the end of it. Anyways, last time was a bad experience. But the prices.... Hawaii doesn't even charge that much and this place is OLD AF on the trashiest beach in town. read more

I stayed here for 3 nights while on a business trip. The hotel was being remodeled while I was there, but work didn't start until 8 am and was done by 5 pm at the latest, so I really didn't mind it. The rooms are in the process of being renovated, mine was actually pretty nice, except for the refrigerator light that wouldn't turn off and the old heater that didn't work (it looks like they're installing heat pumps and a/c in all the rooms, so that shouldn't be an issue for long). The floor was redone and the furniture updated to a modern décor. The shower tile was all new too and I didn't have any issues with hot water or really anything else for that matter. The location is excellent, so close to the beach that you can hear the waves all night and also within walking distance to many bars and restaurants. If you stay here you won't need a rental car. I would definitely stay here again and could easily pass a week relaxing in the hotel and at the beach. read more
