I dove two days with these guys. The staff seemed pretty cool and friendly. They had the best prices for diving that I could find ($65 for 2-tank boat dive with online discount mentioned, normally $70). So make sure you call in and mention you saw their online discount...they knock off $5. A complete gear rental package was $30...pretty good equipment except for the fins. Their boat is docked right next to their office so no long haul there. They usually have 2 dives per day...a morning and midday departure. Being from the west coast, I needed the sleep time and opted for the afternoon departure. Being such a good price meant there was a trade off...here it meant, if you're a certified diver, then you're not getting a dive guide with you. They paired me up with a couple other guys...none of us were sharp on underwater navigating so we had to surface to get our bearings a couple times. But the site we were taken to, weren't very deep anyway. The dive sights were OK, but nothing to brag about. Overall, I liked OD and would use them again if I'm in the area again. read more

My dive buddy and I had booked two days of diving with Ocean Divers well in advance. The idea was to dive the Duane and the Spiegel Grove on two consecutive days. I got a call from the dive shop a few days before we were due to arrive, telling me that the schedule had been changed and that we couldn't dive the Duane. I sent an e-mail to Terry Schaefer, one of the supervisors and received a response within a couple of hours. She and Connie, the manager of the dive shop, made arrangements for me to dive the Duane with another shop and to dive the Spiegel Grove with them the following day. This is one of the very best customer service experiences that I have ever had. Ocean Divers is a very professional, well run dive op. They take safety very seriously. They were meticulous in roll calls, boat briefings and pre-dive briefings. Captain Joe is a good guy. We had a great day of diving and I would strongly recommend them. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about OD. I'm new in town and recently got back into diving and have 'shopped around'. There are other lovely shops but OD is my favorite. First, I'm a single diver and a guide is included- yes you share this person but everyone I've had has managed to memo novice divers while making it interesting for an almost advanced diver like me at the same time. I have yet to meet a crew member who isn't awesome from the office to the boat captain. Most important to me is they care greatly about conservation so no 'poking wildlife' to make tourists happy for tips, etc (honestly most Largo shops are like this which makes me happy). They are absolutely safety oriented- I did my first 100 foot dive with them as part of my AOW - but still make sure you have fun, see wildlife, really explore wrecks, etc. Owen, Al, Tom, Rachel, Lou... anyone you work with is top notch! As a side shout out.. my elderly parents were visiting and I stopped by just to show them how 'it all works'- what the boats look like, buy a trinket, etc. and they were so kind and welcoming... these are just good people. Poor judgement and unethical, unsafe now I have dove with Ocean divers for 30 years. When the Captain Crunch couldn't get it's engine started, I was the one who used my dive knife to jump the starter to get us in. That was before the Captain Crunch sank out on Molassas Reef obviously. Now, one of their captains, made the decision to anchor their boat on top of my fishing boats anchor ball and drop his dive ladder onto my anchor. Divers were put into the water with my chum bag while we were fishing which is not the safest thing to do. Besides ruining our fishing spot that we had been on for a couple of hours, we had to deal with divers underneath our boat. They could have been caught by our fishing lines. One snorkeler reported seeing sharks. It's not safe to put snorkelers and divers into a fishing boats chum line and fishing lines. It's unethcal, unsafe, and showed poor judgement no matter how badly the Ocean Divers captain wanted to take the fishing boats spot. The Coast Guard licenses captains and educates them making a course and exam to train and certify them. Ocean Divers needs to be careful what captains they hire and promote safety so divers are not injured. I would not dive with this operation. read more

I had a great two tank reef dive with this company. I reserved my trip online with a small deposit and check in the day of was very easy. The dive boat was clean and well organized the crew (the two Lou's and Rachel as a dive guide) were great. They were helpful and friendly. I felt at ease and in good company around them. I appreciated that the captain made a judgement call to go to a different dive site when the anticipated one had too strong of a current. Overall, a great experience from start to finish. read more

I am caught between a 3.5 and a full fledged 4. They're missing that SOMETHING that'll push it to a 4 or a 5. I went on a total of 14 dives with them this year (10 last year) with my college group. They didn't do anything wrong... I just feel they didn't do enough. We were certifying perhaps 10 people for open water and advanced. These new divers, like all new divers, needed help and some rescues (minor rescues). The boat crew didn't do much to help out with the rescues and let the school group do most of them. In fact, last year when I was getting my Open Water with my college group on Ocean Divers, we were on the line waiting to get on the ladder to board the boat-- the dude infront of the line slid off and banged my face with his tank (ouch!) and my mask and reg came out. The crew did nothing to help me and as a 100% new comer, I panicked. But the crew still did nothing. Who helped? My school teacher; he JUMPED into the water, lost his glasses, wallet and so forth. He waited a little bit to see if I would self-rescue, but sadly I was too scared and didn't. I was a brand new diver! give me some slack! ...yes... I can kind of understand why they didn't help... The school group was large and my teacher is a great rescuer and wonderful person......... but a part of their job is to keep us alive..... The dive master jumped in a little after my professor did-- it would look too bad if he didn't go. So during that entire time I was choking on water and panicking.... no one came until my professor did. The crew did all the basics of helping when we asked, providing services when we needed it.... but I cannot say they deserve all 5 precious stars. I did not personally feel the crew was BAD; they just were not GREAT. The boat was fully equipped for divers and they go out to great wrecks like the Duane and Spiegel Grove. No Bibb but I'm not surprised-- the Bibb is a SERIOUSLY scary ass wreck that claims divers lives every year. I will reiterate-- Ocean Divers is a good reliable group. However theyre missing that something that brings them above and beyond. I do trust them and do plan to dive with them again. They offer multi dive packs at a discount-- otherwise it was $90 for a two tank dive to Duane-- ask for a 10% discount and theyll give it to you-- but you gotta ask read more

Captial Joe is very nice, very detail explanation on dives sites and gave recommendation on how to explore. Ocean Divers keeps a consistent schedule for diving in Key Largo so if you are looking for the operation that will be going out to dive come hell or high water, they are it. A lot of outfits will not leave the docks if there are not enough people, or if the conditions are only so-so. I was in the keys to dive and they sent their boat out with only three divers on it because they believe if you come to dive, they will get you diving!!! I really liked that! The crew on the boats are friendly, however they are not there to wait on you hand and foot, which is how I like things. If you are looking to get pampered by the boats crew and DMs this may not be your outfit. Diving the wrecks was GREAT. You must have at least your Advanced C-card to dive the Spiegel Grove, Duane and Bibb. If you don't have your AOW card I am sure the will set you up with the instruction to get it. I observed several of their staff instructors while diving with them and I thought their instructors did a very nice job with students in their charge. Nitrox 32 is available and their store is well stocked with lots of dive goodies. If you are in Key Largo and want some great diving, dive with Ocean Divers. read more

I've gone diving with Ocean Divers several times over the years and I would echo the remarks of those on here who say they are okay...not awesome...not horrible...just okay. Their staff is professional and their boats are clean. They run multiple trips everyday which is very convenient if you are in the area and want to do a lot of diving. They require all divers to exit the boat with a giant stride which makes it difficult for people diving with long fins and their boats are packed so be sure your footprint isn't any bigger than the bench space needed for your two tanks. My only bad dive with them was a lobster dive this past July when we were dropped into a current that was way too fast for an anchored boat dive. Every one of the 20+ divers spent their downtime fighting current instead of bug hunting, all of them came up huffing and puffing and commenting on the current. I have gone diving in current this strong several times before but every time it was as a drift dive...never as an anchored boat dive. Some of the complaints I have seen have much more to do with people diving without proper training or experience and expecting more than that for which they are paying. If you want a guided dive you need to pay for a guided dive. If the person in front of you is climbing the dive ladder and you are right underneath him you are putting yourself at risk for getting clonked on the head if he falls. Overall this is a fine outfit to dive with but be sure that you are knowledgeable about your gear and confident in your skills. Think of them as dive site transportation and not much more. read more

This was my third time diving with Ocean Divers and let me tell you, they are WONDERFUL. Dani was a terrific dive guide, pointing out all the cool stuff I would have missed otherwise (which, btw they have free dive guides on every dive) and just taking really good care of all of us in general. Rachel gave me some great tips about my BCD that allowed me to drop 2 lb of weight on my second dive, and Travis got us there and back safely despite the (in my mind) rough conditions. And the sliced oranges after your dives to get the saltwater taste out of your mouth are a nice touch also. We had a great scuba dive with Ocean Divers. The boat was not packed with people for one and they accommodated both snorkeling and diving on the same trip. They were safety conscience without being overboard. I am a new diver, so I appreciated that they had a dive master on board. I had problems adjusting my weights and they were really calm and patient helping me with my issues. They were the first ones out on the sights so we got the prime spots. Alisia who was my dive instructor and dive buddy was extremely knowledgeable on aquatic life around us giving me full bios on anything I asked and I didn't know. First off Ocean Diver's is where I got open water certified in September 2010, and I was looking forward to going with them again in December 2016 with my fiance... WARNING: this isn't the same helpful and caring staff as I remembered. Sooo disappointed!! :( :( :( The boat was super crowded between snorkelers and divers. The snorkelers weren't very respectful of the divers getting on or off the boat and there wasn't enough adequate and experienced staff to take care of everyone on board. Everything was very rushed, and I felt the extra safety precautions weren't taken compared to other boat dives I've been on. Double checking of equipment before entering water and helping divers get in the water and making sure they felt comfortable. I felt like it was a race (not enjoyable at all) and the "scuba instructor/dive master" was a total jerk. He got pissed because my weights were not correct even though that was what I dove with on my last ocean dive as well as other previous dives. They brought me more weights, but I still wasn't able to go down. He acted like he didn't care whether I dove or not. It was all about him whether he got to enjoy his dive. Hello... I'm the paying customer and you are the "scuba instructor/dive master" for a reason to help people. If you wanted to just dive and not do your job, maybe you should have called in that day. I have recommended Ocean Divers to my dive friends visiting The Keys in the past. After this experience, NEVER AGAIN!!! They compromised safety by rushing among other things and quite frankly took the "fun" out of diving. I will be going back to The Keys later this year but will search for another dive shop to do business with. read more

In order to keep this short I'm only going to focus on the biggest issue I had with them. I went on a boat with my husband (my dive buddy) we were told before boarding that there were 6 people on board. Once we were on our way we were grouped into two groups of 3. No one bothered to ok this with my husband and me first, which as far as I was taught is a big safety issue. We should never have agreed to this, but we were trying to be corporative. First dive, we spent time talking with the 3rd guy going over gear and signals as well as the dive plan. During the dive this guy didn't follow a single bit of the plan among a bunch of other issues. Neither my husband or I felt comfortable diving with him again. When we got back on the boat I quietly explained this to one of the crew. I assumed that would be the end of that. No. Second dive comes up, I get told by the captain that he "isn't able to accommodate my request" A bunch of fuss and hassle later, my husband and I are not allowed to dive without the 3rd guy. We were told, "He paid for two dives." This is completely absurd. He paid for dives. Not to dive with us. Simple, done. Once we got back to shore we demanded a refund, which we eventually got. I may have upped the rating to 2 stars because of this, but they were about as rude as they could be while giving the refund. No apology, no promise to revise this add on diver policy. And the worst bit as we were leaving we were told. "That guy you are complaining about is a master scuba instructor and therefore more qualified than you." First this comment isn't helpful, it's rude. Second, if truly was that qualified he should not have done 90% of the things he did during that dive. Find another dive shop. If for some reason you think they still deserve your business at least be VERY clear before you give them money what you will and will not be doing. read more

Awesome experience! Can't say enough great things about the crew. We had Gavin, Rachel and Richard- hoping I remembered them correctly! The crew was super engaging and you could tell they all love their jobs. My husband and I went for snorkeling but I couldn't hang the whole time so I spent the next stop on the boat and with the driver Gavin, he was so down to earth and after telling him how much my son loves the ocean he gave me some books to give him! My only suggestion is when booking the trip the dive shop staff should explain that you can bring your own snacks and drinks. The last snorkel trip we had provided that so we didn't even think about it. Didn't have a bad impact on our trip at all though. We will for sure be back! read more

I was in Key Largo diving for the week and the operator I was using couldn't seem to get me on a deeper dive or to the Spiegel Grove all week so I talked to a few of the Ocean Divers staff one night while at Sharky's eating and they told me about a smaller group going so I came in and signed up. The office staff were great and friendly, super helpful. The boat was large and well stocked for the trip, they provided site maps and our guide was well prepared and carried an extra tank because it was deep in the event someone got in trouble. The dive was a mixed feeling of having a guide to monitor for problems but it felt more open because she wasn't leading us like a tour. She was last in to ensure everyone got down fine and the last up to ensure everyone made it up fine and made their safety stops. Diving the wreck was amazing, found a small octopus and I am super happy we choose to dive with them that day because it was the only time we got deeper or to see the wreck. All in all they are in a great location, shared with Sharky's restaurant and bar ( amazing food btw, ate there all week ) so its convenient for lunch / dinner after a dive trip. Had we not already committed to the other operator we might have just stuck with them, I would without a doubt dive with them again. read more

Dove with them a couple days ago and had a great experience! It was my second time with them (the first was two years ago on another vacation). The captain and crew are very nice and even had a complimentary dive guide to follow. Sarah was great, she pointed out a lot of sea creatures that I would have otherwise missed. We went to the French Reef and Bendwood Wreck. Both are nice dives. The French reef is huge so you can go multiple times. I finally got to see my sea turtle there so nothing was going to bring me down anyway. The boat had little showers on it so you could rinse off. Will return next year. read more

I've been to four dive shops in the Keys and this has been the best so far. Mainly because they offer great trips to the artificial reef shipwrecks off the coast of Key Largo. I've been diving with them twice now and everything has went smoothly. I would recommend calling to make a reservation because sometimes their schedule fills up fast during the peak season. Their boat has plenty of seating and tank holders which is great for gearing up and moving around while the boat is heading to the dive sites. I would appreciate some more guidance about the dive conditions and dive sites from the on-board dive masters and captain. Overall, a great experience. read more

Dove with Ocean Dive today with Captain Lou? (think that is his name, sorry if I'm wrong about the name) and Dive Master Abby. We were headed out to dive the USCG Duane, when we got there all the bouys were underwater being dragged down by one heck of a strong current. Captain Lou did the prudent thing and took us over to the USS Spiegel Grove where there was almost no current. Even though most people on the boat were a little disappointed in not being able to dive the Duane everyone understood that some disappointment is a good trade off for being safe. After a dive to the Spiegel Grove we did our 2nd dive at French Reef. For both dives we were given a very thorough dive briefing, not only about the sites but on how to get off and the boat safely. At the end of each dive a complete roll call was taken to make sure everyone who went into the water was back on board. The professionalism by both Captain Lou, and Dive Master Abby was equal to any I've seen anywhere I've dived in the world. I'd highly recommend Ocean Divers for diving in Key Largo. read more

These guys are fantastic. My girlfriend and I have done two sets of open water dives with them, and the last was even better than the first (I also snorkeled with them years ago). They are maestros at conducting us tourists, disciplined without being rude, and funny as hell. They have the Pennekamp Reef mastered for locations, mingling easily the underwater training with sightseeing, in gorgeous locales. We also couldn't say enough about our dive instructor, the great Georgia Hausserman, our new hero. Handles the training-to-fun ratio with superlative skill. Listen up! For those who want to snorkel but don't want the crowds that come with the sundiver snorkel tours, choose Ocean Divers. For 35 dollars they take you out to gorgeous reefs that are not crowded. You can swi. A very long time without even seeing another swimer. The reefs themselves are like aquariums. The tour is almost 4 and a half hours long and there are fresh water showers and water on the boat. The crew is helpful and let you go where you'd like. Since Ocean Divers is mainly for divers there aren't many snorkelers crowding the area. This tour also takes you to two diffrent locations. Honestly, crowded tours are terrible. This tour for the price is absolutely worth it. read more

Had a miserable experience with their office staff, who were abusive and rude. My buddy really wanted to dive, and we drove nearly 2 hours to dive with this outfit and weren't able to reschedule for another day, otherwise I would have walked away. Even though this is a PADI 5-star shop, the staff refused to honor a PADI c-card. When I asked them to look me up on PADI's website if they didn't want to take my card, they told me to do myself a favor and shut up. Finally, once my buddy headed to the boat to drop off our gear, one of their staffers called me an A-word. I've already complained to PADI about this, and will never, never, never dive with this outfit again. There are a lot of dive shops in Key Largo; do yourself a favor and dive with any of them instead. Will say that the boat staff were cool and professional, so no complaints about them, just the office staff. read more

AVOID THEM! I dove with them in Dec of '12 and still remember my bad experience. At the time I had just gotten my open water dive certification and went diving in FL with Ocean Divers. Several key things bothered me: 1) After getting my open water dive certification in the midwest this was my FIRST dive in the ocean. I made that known to the dive master. When we were ready to jump in the dive master DID NOT accompany any of the divers on the dive. While this may be acceptable by diving guidelines I have NEVER seen that in almost subsequent 40 dives in Mexico, Thailand, Cuba, etc. I was a total rookie and they let me jump into the ocean with a complete stranger (dive buddy). Sure he tried to do his best to help with minor issues I had but to me I'll never go diving with a shop where the dive master doesn't accompany a group. It feels like bad practice to let someone so inexperienced figure it out in the ocean and risk their life. I kept my cool and managed to get through it okay but what about someone that panics? To not have a dive master there to watch over you and show you around terrain and sea life you're not familiar with is a scary idea! In retrospect I shouldn't have gotten off the boat and I should have asked for my money back. 2) I called several times and was told their 2 tank dive rates were the same as everyone else I had called (about $115 including gear for 2 tank dives). When I got there they charged me $150!! Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. The money isn't as big a deal as the dive master not joining all the other divers. If I were a dive master or shop the safety of my customers would be #1 not just for the sake of my shops reputation but also for my own personal standards of safety. Good luck & dive safe. read more
