If I could leave ZERO stars I would. I'm never going back to Ocean Honda for Service... Recently I was driving to work and noticed my car shaking/vibrating when I would accelerate. It had done it in the past but would go away. Finally it did it again a couple weeks ago, got so bad I thought my car was gonna break down. Finally the check engine light came on. I decided to take it to Bobby's Pit Stop for a diagnostic. They called me and said it was either a blown head gasket or cylinder head failure and to take it to Ocean Honda. The car only had 69,000 miles so a blown head gasket was insane! I took it to Ocean Honda the next day and told them to specifically run a test to see if it is truly a blown head gasket or cylinder head failure. They ran a diagnostic and called me back saying something was wrong with the spark plugs and oxygen sensor. They told me I also needed oil change, new battery, carbon filter, and all the fluids possible. I responded "so there is nothing wrong with the head gasket or cylinder head?" They said no. I asked if they ran a test to see and they said no. I asked if they could run a test to make sure it isn't a blown head gasket and they said I needed to pay an extra $250. I was pissed. My bf decided to talk to the GM and let him know the issue. We were not going to pay $500 for a diagnostic when they should have checked for head gasket in the first place. They said we could check for a blown head gasket and replace it if need be for free if you have warranty. Our warranty was over! I'm unable to pay 8K for repair! I figured Honda should not be charging an extra $250 to run tests that they should have done in the first diagnostic. I was so stressed cause I figured might as well sell my car and get it out of my hands. I sat down with a sales rep and he was gonna offer me 10K Cash for my car. My car is 2019 with only 69,000 miles and my dad paid 40K for it! 10K seemed so cheap. I figured they actually knew it had a blown head gasket but didn't want to admit. I said no to the 10K They then offered me 20K for a trade in or 15K cash final. I called my dad and he said "walk away, we'll figure this out. Don't worry" I decided to get my dad and his friend involved. They know people at the Salinas Honda. They told me to only pay Ocean Honda $250 for the first diagnostic and to not pay for any other repairs. Then get my car towed to Salinas Honda for another diagnostic to really check if it was a blown head gasket. Long story short, Salinas Honda ran tests. They CONFIRMED it was a blown head gasket and at 69,000 miles was insane. The GM of Salinas Honda made a GoodWill Claim with Honda and they have decided to fix my car for free! I will NEVER be going back to Ocean Honda! There was overwhelming evidence that my car had a blown head gasket. I told them that! Yet, they did not even make a note I had told them about the issue when reading the receipt. $250 is already a lot for a basic diagnostic, I'd expect them to check EVERYTHING the first time. Come to find out there is a civil lawsuits against Honda for engine issues. Maybe people at Ocean Honda knew about this and tried to push it aside? Who knows?! I'll be getting my car back from Salinas Honda soon. read more

I know in the past people have had some negative experiences including me. But I understand that they're under new management now. And it shows! I got a newer car from another dealership that's related to Ocean Honda. When I got home I noticed a light was not working. I contacted that dealership numerous times over a weeks time and no return calls or any texts etc. I spoke to an Ocean Honda sales associate, James and he immediately took care of it. The part was ordered and he got an appointment for me. Impressive! They were pretty busy so they got me a Lyft to and from the dealership. Ocean Honda service is trash. I had an appointment yesterday and when I got there they said they were closing in a half hour and wouldn't take my car. (Takes me an hour to get there) The technician said to come in the next day and they will do it, I asked about an apt and he said not needed. I call today and she's saying I have to get there before 1 and it wouldn't be done until they close at 4. Associates seemed enthusiastic and very willing to really sell the products. However, here's where I get uncomfortable. 1. Used car sales management, you ignored when my significant other said "the car doesn't need to be on to check the mileage" turned on our car ANYWAYS, then you REV our car *multiple times* without being given permission to do so -- in fact it was so sudden that neither my s.o. or I knew what he was trying to do until he just up and decided to do that before we could say anything. The salesman who brought this used car salesman over? Oh, he just laughed and supported his associate's reckless disrespectful behavior to property that isn't theirs. There's more about this I'll talk more about later. 2. The same salesman who laughed at his coworker's behavior, decided that showing a customer's Type R (in for service) was a good idea. That car is not a joke, a customer's car is not a joke, and you don't mess with people's property. So tell me why this poor beautiful Type R was treated like a joke. The Type R was shown without the owner's consent, knowledge, and without the owner being there. Even if the dealership knew by camera footage, no staff came out to say anything or tell him otherwise. It's nice that you're dedicated as a salesman but this is beyond disrespectful. He showed the very personal interior of this customer's Type R, and then offered to allow basically random people to sit in this customer's car. If it was my car, even just the idea of someone else letting a random person LOOK THROUGH or SIT in my car especially without consent, knowledge, or anything is just wrong. I wouldn't trust this dealership for servicing. Even just thinking about the Type R seats, if you get anything on that red or ruin the seats at all, you're done. You mess with someone else's property, you're also done, shame on you. 3. To the same salesman and to the manager, if we didn't come in intending to buy some other car you're trying to sell us, and this is a car that doesn't exist - all this talk is nothing but *talk* and it's going to take a while especially when you glorify it and want to oversell on random features we said we don't want, need, or care about. But please at the bare minimum ask if the customer has a place to be especially if it's dinner time to be respectful of other people's time and physical needs... Also when the customer says they need dinner, as this occurred at the time dinner would usually be at, that might be a good signal to let people do what they need to do. Not keep overselling on things we don't want, need, or care about. The manager seemed scared of me and seemed rather manipulative. I can see through your sneaky behavior... the salesman we talked to mentioned, you, the manager selling someone a Type R for $100K to a customer who didn't come in intending to buy one and knew nothing about them... that's ridiculous and actually quite scammy... for a $45.8K car... and you bet the salesman was excited to remember that... Also for some weird reason the associates kept our vehicle's key through this entire time and we had to keep asking where it was and why they needed it. I had a good experience with the sales Derek Verduzco. No pushing at all. Unfortunately the financial manager Kelvin Le is the worst finance guy i have even met. I bought the vehicle CRV with a maintenance package on 10/19/25 and was told I could cancel at any time and have refund. Just one day after vehicle purchase, I called Kelvin to cancel the package because I thought it's not worth it. He emailed me a cancellation form and I sent it back with my signature. Since then I couldn't reach him any more. After tons of emails and calls (I even cc his boss), eventually he told me the refund would be shown on my 2nd statement. So I waited and waited until 2nd statement, the refund wasn't there yet. No matter how I contacted Kelvin, no response at all. Until today the refund is still nowhere even it has been almost 2 months since the cancellation. read more

Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE sales team. Omg. Aidan was cursing at me trying to explain how an objectively predatory loan was a better option than being *smart* about buying a car. He spoke SO fast, so aggressively (almost shouting at me), and changed subjects numerous times -- all while telling me that I should be comfortable paying over $700 a month, and that "nothing is truly out of [my] budget." No, I have a budget and a set of expectations. I really want to reiterate that this dude's explanation of auto loans was so absolutely wrong and was designed for you to not think actually about the math behind it. He told me that his personal experience with financing was that the interest he would "earn" on his auto loan would pay his monthly payment. That's backwards -- you only earn interest if you lend money to an entity like the U.S. government or a bank. You do not earn positive interest on auto loans when YOU are the one who borrowed the money. He clearly mistook my auditory processing disorder as stupidity, and I don't think he knew that I am not dumb. The intimidation and aggression at Ocean Honda made me feel uncomfortable even being in the lot. And if I had gone with his math, I would be paying over $50,000 for a $25,000 Honda Accord. When I walked away, he thought I was already gone; and shouted "gross!" Never will I ever consider this dealership an option, and neither should you. At least make sure you have the decency to check if I'm gone before you call me "gross." read more

Do not fall for the "$250 diagnostics" at Ocean Honda. I won't make this incident longer that it should be , my son walk into ocean honda to get his 2021 honda checked it was leaking coolant. He was offered to get a "dianostic" for $250 he said ok and signed the contract to get the work done. My son did not hear from ocean honda and called same day and was told technician was still looking at it he called the next day afternoon and was told the technician needed to further diagnose the issue but it was a fact this would not be covered by the warranty since it seem something broke the radiator. The technician told my son he needed to remove the bumper to check the damage my son that's fine do what you got to do to diagnose the issue. The following day my son gets an estimated repair for about 6k ! My son said no way we are not doing that the technician Mike said well then you can come pick up the car and it will $500 for all the work done! My son what happened to the $250 diagnosis ?? Mike said this was not cover under the diagnostic and he apologized for the confusion but my son owed 500 for all the work. Next day we go get the car and Mike came out explain my son had authorized the work to be done I said you're right he did and the contract said 250 you should've explained any additional diagnostics would be extra !! He said I told him and my son you did not I was under the impression this was part of the" diagnostic ". I told the cashier that I did not have a problem paying for work done but my son was never told that and that contract stated $250 she then kindly suggested to speak with the manager Marshall I said sure. We talked to Marshall the service manager and my son shared the txt messages he had with Mike and in fact acknowledged this was not really clear : he pointed out there was a "handwritten" note from Mike stating client authorized additional services and date and time my son told he never mentioned over the this was extra. Marshall was courteous enough to offer $250 in "store credit " I said what makes you think we would come back to this dealership after This service ?.. and I declined. He said well I'm sorry you guys were not happy with our service and left at that. All I'm saying is be careful with these guys I don't think they're doing things right . I will report them to the Better Business Bureau . Side note I'm not the only one who got scammed with the "250 diagnostic " there's at least one more review on google . Lastly when I was given a receipt they were only giving the total paid $500 and no receipts for the initial $250 diagnostics contract I asked Marshall to print me copies of that contract nowhere on the final receipt showed $250 : he printed copies and handed to me. Posted an ad for the 2023 Civic Type R, I understand it's a special car with high demands so first thing I asked was what the asking price was and whether there was any markup on the car. I was immediately told "$45k plus accessories", which to me means no 'markup'. But there wasnt details on what or how much the Accessories would cost, was only told "$8-$10k of accessories" I had indicated thru our conversation that I'm series and will go in if Jonathan could confirm what the final price would be and that I wouldn't want to drive all the way down to Santa Cruz area just to get baited into the dealer for a different deal. I told him I would only go for the deal if there was no markup. Then I was kept being told "this is a rare car, the last one sold in 4 hours" Anyone who knows about and is interested in the Type R knew that already but I personally am not willing to pay the markup that's why I wanted to make sure I know exactly what the deal would be before heading down to the dealer so we won't be wasting each other's time. I understand it was getting late in the evening and Jonathan had told me he will get back to me the next day with the final numbers. I didn't get any feedback all morning, until I reached out. Then I was told $15k markup. How did it go from "$45k (MSRP) plus accessories" and "Ok if we can do no markup are you buying?" to $15k markup? He either A) does not know anything Or B) trying to pull a bait and switch Either way it's completely unprofessional and borderline unethical, wasted my time and was planning my weekend around making the trip down to the dealer if the deal was remotely close to what was I initially told. Buyers, especially first time car buyers BEWARE! (Several reasons for capitalization below). Ocean Honda Santa Cruz Website lists cars that are not even in the lot. Only way to look at what is available on the lot in Santa Cruz is through cars.com and then clicking on the link - view the car on the dealer's website. Lot of these VIN numbers could not be found on the Ocean Honda website. To cut short - VIN numbers on Ocean honda website are not physically in their lot and a lot of VIN numbers listed on cars.com which are physically on the lot and can not be found on Ocean honda website. This is important as it will become apparent further in the review (Hint- Bait and Switch). Which became apparent as I was shown a CPO certified car that had a recall. Note - If a car undergoes a CPO certification and then gets a recall - that car can not be sold as a CPO and warranties of CPO certification will not apply. If a recall is already on the car then that car can not be CPO certified unless the recall is fixed. I was shown one such car that had a recall and quoted a CPO price! Red flag. First time or novice buyers fall prey to this. This indicates that the cars are "victory automotive group certified" and not "HondaTrue" (manufacturer) certified which is a big difference. This car was still priced at CPO certified. Manufacturer Certification will not allow for this. If someone buys this car they will pay for a CPO certified increased cost but not get the CPO certified warranty until the recall is fixed. There is a significant backlog on this recall as 75000 cars were recalled. Altogether, I went to the dealership 3 times, and had to negotiate offers over text in order to get what should have been a logical written offer the first time. Waste of my and their time, due to all the negative points mentioned below I took an educated decision to not buy a car here. There was a constant push to buy add-ons, pay for CPO certification, pay for the service plan (CarDoc). First thing I mentioned is I am not looking to drive off the car today but as I have a pre-approval I am looking to buy a car in the next 5-7 days. My aim was to check out 2 other dealerships in town before I make a commitment to buy a specific car. Everything was okay until the test drive, looking at all the options available on the lot, all the features and warranties etc were well explained. But things changed dramatically after this. First time I went in they scanned my driver's ID which is reasonable as dealerships have to deal with identity thefts all the time. Before informing me of the list price of the car the question was what is your social security number and what is the monthly budget! Big red flag. I mentioned I have a pre-approval from a bank and will not share those details for now. Let's first know the offer you have. Here began "let me take it back to my boss' ' ensemble. Hours long, the constant back and forth with the sales manager. The printed offer was so ridiculous (12,000 over list price with add-ons and double charging for CPO, taxes and fees etc. Sadly, I don't have evidence of this as they would not even let me take a picture) that they would not let me take the offer with me! Red flag. I decided to give another chance to reach an agreeable offer because I really wanted that model of the car. So I called the sales consultant and decided to drive down to the dealership. During this visit the offer was brought back to ~8000 above list price but still outrageous. Couple of "optional add-ons" were removed as per my request. I have printed copies of these offers that I am willing to share with anyone. Asking customers to pay for CPO certification is paying twice for the same thing. Red flag! If the car is CPO certified then it has a higher list price than a non certified pre-owned car. Which means the cost to have a car CPO certified is covered in the list price. But additional X dollars were added to the offer to have a customer pay for the CPO. All in all this left a terrible feeling that If I decide to go with Ocean Honda then I would be looking over my shoulder at all times to see if they are adding fraudulent charges until I have the final bill of sale in my hand. Plus if you are a local resident, relations with the dealership don't end once you buy a car, it continues further till the life of the car for factory recalls, regular service and which would be further stress everytime you walk-in. read more

Aggressive and audacious workers :( I showed an interest in selling my honda civic because of an email that shared a promotion for selling back my car that I bought from them and I got blasted with 2 emails, 3 texts, a phone call, and a voicemail all back to back within a span of several minutes. Immediately feeling harassed, I unsubscribed, responded STOP to the several texts, emailed them to please remove me and ignored the phone calls at first. They called me again that day and I asked them to take me off their list again because it was overwhelming and the girl was really rude about it. Then the next person called me the next day and I told them, "hey I'm not interested in working with your dealership, I'm sure it's not your fault but your dealership came on way too aggressively with spamming me" and the guy was even more rude. His attitude was shocking, repulsive and he didn't want to take any accountability for the aggression and spam, saying, "well it's just us trying to help you" Spamming me is not a good way to do business, then being condescending after is WILD. I rarely write bad reviews but their attidudes were all so upsetting. Literally could've just said, "oh man sorry that happened, we'll look into that and handle it. Are you still interested in selling your car and figure something out together?" However, why would anyone want to work with you after feeling HARASSED by your dealership. It's not helpful at all. He just got super defensive and was like, "well next time don't even bother showing interest again" I told them AGAIN over the phone to please take my contact off their list. It blew my mind that the people on the phone had an attitude. I wouldn't recommend doing business with this type of sales team and process. Lastly, I bought my honda civic here and they were trying to charge me several thousand extra hidden costs with "built in gps" and such. Almost everyone uses their phone for GPS with Waze or Google Maps. They kept me for over 5 hours at the dealership especially because with what they were trying to charge me, I could have spent on a more luxury car at that point. I made a bad decision with buying the car because they tired me out and did the sales trick where they make you feel like you got a good deal (You leave and then they call you with a "better" deal only for you today) I don't think I'll ever work with a dealership, especially this dealership ever again. read more

Spoke on and off at the start of the week on a vehicle. Received an OTD quote in text writing from sales person. Had appointment set, test drop went fine. Came back in to go over numbers and was completed blindsided by the additional 14k in add ons they were trying to make me pay for. I felt they were bait and switching with the pricing and quote they gave me. Ultimately spent about 1 1/2 hours negotiating down to the quote that I was originally given. The most terrible experience purchasing a vehicle one could ever go through. If it wasn't for the original quote eventually being honored I would have walked. I'll be in the market for another vehicle soon but I won't be returning to this dealership. Had to get a recall done for 2 of my vehicles. The 1 star is for getting me scheduled within a reasonabke time frame and their easy check in service. One of the vehicles I had just taken to my mechanic the very same day for an oil change. He warned me they would tell me a bunch of things were wrong that we in fact, ok. He was right. They said the brakes needed to be redone and a few other items. While I was there I witnessed a women crying because they did unauthorized work on her vehicle and it was going to cost over $800. The other vehicle I took in, I received a call right after drop off that "my warranty was expired" The salesman was trying to make it sound like I needed a warranty for the recall work to be covered, which obviously is untrue. Later in the day when I called to check on the vehicle I was put on hold for almost 35 minutes. When I called back, I asked for the manager and when I mentioned the hold time I was told it must have been because I called the wrong number which I hadn't because I called the same number I had used previous times to get service done. Once I got there I was able to pick up the vehicle (on both occasions) promptly. They did also offer to drop me off and pick me up if I needed a ride both times. I also know of a young woman who took her vehicle here and got taken to the cleaners. read more

I was able to reconnect and they worked. Then I noticed that the bolts were all black except one that was silver. The passport is the BLACK EDITION. So when I went in for my first service I asked for the silver bolt to be replaced by a black bolt. It was my own fault. I'd read the Yelp reviews and a Honda owner had advised me not to go there. But I went to Ocean Honda in Soquel for a used car anyway. The advertised price was too good to ignore. But before going, I texted a lot with a Mr. Chris O'Connell. Those texts were to nail down everything before going in the dealership, since I knew the process could be harrowing. My primary text asked for an "out-the-door" (OTD) cost for the car I was interested in. OTD means the cost of EVERYTHING to drive the car away. It is the final bottom line cost. Mr. O'Connell obliged with a detailed list of costs and a total. It was a good price, in comparison with other online ads by dealerships. So, I went in, taking his quote with me. When I showed Mr. O'Connell's price sheet to a salesman in the store, he seemed surprised. (I overheard him say to a co-worker, "I didn't have anything to do with that.") Instead of continuing with me, the salesman took me into an office to deal directly with Mr. O'Connell. Mr. O'Connell said of the price sheet, "Maybe the printing cut off the bottom line, which says that dealer-installed accessories are not included..." NOT. What are below the total price are lines with the salesman's name, address, and phone. Nothing else but a link to an ad and an option to stop receiving messages. I'm happy to provide a copy of Mr. O'Connell's email. There's an old adage, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." It's fine to go to Ocean Honda. Just be prepared to walk out. Al really put me in the seat of my favorite car (2024 Honda civic type R) as you know buying a car as a 20 yr old isn't so easy when everyone wants a quick dollar but man was I wrong when speaking with him over the phone getting a good price. As it was a little distance from my house it was a good feeling knowing he was confirming everything with me and going over everything with in person as someone who doesn't know much about buying a car. Please don't go here, you will get scammed!!! Charged me (A broke college student)-- 864.74$ for the clamps to my Radiator's upper and lower hoses. Mind you they quoted me 1067.89$ just for replacing the radiator. Also 5 other charges totaling to 1k on top of those two for extremely easy-to-fix things like transmission rubber lines and clamps.
