I had such a horrible experience with Luiza. She was incredibly rude and dismissive of me. Will not be returning again!

I had been dreading going to the eye doctor for a long time and waited until the last possible moment before I ran out of contacts when my co-workers suggested Visionworks. I made an appointment online and was e-mailed all the forms I needed to fill out so it was all done before I even stepped foot into their office! When I walked in for my appointment, I signed in to the iPad at the front desk and was taken back to start my eye exam after waiting only a few minutes. Pretty normal procedure here but I did notice how clean everything was--a must for an eye doctor's office! I finished all the tests and met with Dr. Sarah Ito, who was incredibly warm, kind, and helpful in explaining the results of my exam, as well as suggesting a prescription and contact lenses that fit my needs. She put things in terms that I could understand, which is difficult considering how little I know about anything medical! Once Dr. Ito had checked my prescription, I was assisted by a woman in the front who looked at my insurance plan and worked through the paperwork and calculations to see what I owed. She was easygoing as well and told me the office would call and e-mail me when my prescription was in (which they did) and that was it! Simple enough. All in all, this was actually a pretty enjoyable experience, everyone I encountered was knowledgable and friendly, and the office was a beautiful, clean space. They also worked very efficiently so I was in and out of there quickly (about a half an hour total). I would definitely recommend Visionworks, especially if you hate going to the doctor as much as I do! read more

After booking an appointment a year prior, I showed up for my appointment and they had canceled it without notifying me. After wasting my morning on the phone, talking to them, they didn't offer an apology. Instead they told me that they canceled it in order to make room for other patients. In the middle of COVID we need compassion from doctors and these people lack it. I had gone there for many years. This is my third year going here. Great service from Dr Ito and her staff. Super friendly and it's all high tech. No more puffs of air in the eye. There's a new machine for that! I also got some glasses that are now fitted with this crazy machine that measure your face or something. See the photo I attached of my prescription. There is a $35 charge to recheck your prescription no matter what, no matter how much time has lapsed, no matter if they made a mistake. Sarah Ito just wants your cash. My exam is from 10/10/12, 5 months from the date of my review. Also, sometimes you don't get new glasses right away after an eye exam. I also wear contacts and didn't have an immediate need for new glasses. But when I needed to figure out what was going on, Sarah Ito only wanted more money from me. What is really happening is that Sarah Ito caught herself up in a lie and is trying to work her way out of it. She even used her Yelp response to advertise the luxury brands she carries. What a slimeball. 2 Yelp Elite reviewers have given this place 1 star. Many of the 5 star reviews are from users who have 2 reviews, and seem to be fake. Everyone - YELP WORKS. I *never* would have gotten this type of response from Sarah Ito if I hadn't turned to Yelp! read more

This has been by far the best experience I have ever had at a optometrist. I found this place through my insurance company and with help from, of coure, Yelp, I made an appointment. Really easy to make an appointment and they have great hours, especially the fact they are open on Saturdays helped a lot. All the availble forms that are needed to be filled out prior to my appointment were available via their website, and can be done online. Parking is highly available since it is located in a large plaza. As soon as I entered I was greeted right away and had minimal wait to see the optician. My optician was Arvin, and he was great. Explained my insurance plan to me and worked with my budget. Helped me find a frame based on what I wanted in a frame and how it would function based on my face shape. Next I saw the Dr. Dr. Ito is very nice and she also threw in jokes here and there. It was a very pleasant experience. She explained every aspect of the tests that she was conducting on myself. Dr. Ito made me feel very comfortable in everything that she was doing. My glasses were ready in four days, exactly as promised. Overall I would recommend this place to anybody. They have a wide variety of frames, the staff is really nice. And they accept a lot of different kinds of insurance. I even told my sister to go here when she needs to have her eyes re-evaluated. read more

It's the little things that mean a lot. I have a favorite pair of sunglasses that I wear almost every day for years now and they were running down and had a couple of pieces that were broken. I received the attached screen shots of an email and text message which I thought were reminders of the appointment I had scheduled a year in advance. When I arrived promptly at the time indicated I was told the appointment had been cancelled because I hadn't confirmed. When I showed them the text message and email I was told I could come back later with no apology or empathy for my wasted time. I'm not sure about you but I value my time more than that. I have been going to this establishment since 1981. They are great. In my 60's I still have 20/25 vision. They carry interesting frames and all the tests needed to keep tabs on your vision. They let you know about possible future issues and how to avoid deteriorating vision. Good COVID protocols. read more

Dr. Sarah Ito is a wonderful eye doctor. She spent time with me on Friday explaining Neurovisual Medicine, which can help with all kinds of symptoms like ongoing eye strain, headaches, and dizziness. These can happen when your eyes aren't balanced together. She's one of only 25 optometrist in the US who is certified in this specialty. As someone who combats double vision when tired, I'm glad to have a resource in the area. read more

This was my first visit to Ocean Park Optometry and wow I was impressed. The staff are professional, competent and charming. They know exactly what they are doing and the equipment is cutting edge, I was truly impressed when Doctor Ito showed me detailed 3D images of my eyes on the computer screen and took the time to describe the areas of my eyes that require careful monitoring. Atwonet was also very kind and helpful in walking me through my insurance options and helping me choose a good pair of glasses. EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY - The office itself, the doctor, and the staff! Really love Dr. Ito. She found a condition I have that NO ONE ever has, and I've been around for a long time! It is something that can be dealt with, when I receive the proper glasses prescription. Her nurse, Antwanett, was also spectacular. I felt 100% taken care of. They have all the highest tech equipment - better than LenseCrafters! - and when Antwanett adjusted my old glasses for me, she was so detail oriented that she even removed the glasses from the frames to do the most spectacular job of cleaning/adjusting the three pair that I brought it. My wife has gone to Visionworks for the last 6 years, and I started going there last year when my previous optometrist stopped taking my insurance plan. While I agree that Dr. Ito and the staff are very nice, after my recent experiences, we are never going back. I went in for new glasses about 6 months ago. Their first error was to tell me that my glasses would be covered by insurance, only to call me back after my visit to tell me that they were not, and thus I owed them a good bit more money (about $150). Their second order was to sell me the glasses without mentioning the anti-glare coating. I don't buy glasses often enough to remember that this is an option that one needs to ask for; I just assume that the optometrist will sell me glasses that work, and if there is an extra option that I should consider they will tell me about it. When the glasses arrived, I simply could not wear them, the glare was so bad. I took them back and the staff were nice enough to have them re-done with the anti-glare coating. About a month after my initial visit I finally had new glasses. Fast forward 6 months: I now have a pair of glasses that are so scratched that I cannot wear them, despite the fact that I have treated them just as well as my previous glasses, which are nowhere near as scratched after 6 years as these are after 6 months. I finally took the glasses back to Visionworks and asked if there was anything they could do. After looking at them, they told me that I had scratched them (even though the "scratches" are more like smudges where the coating has been damaged) and there was nothing they could do. When I pushed more to see if there was anything they could do to help me, they simply said no, blaming it on my insurance company. Threatening to take my and my wife's business elsewhere did not seem to have any effect. If you want to be treated nicely then definitely go here, just don't expect them to provide the guidance you need when buying glasses or to help if their products are defective. FOLLOWUP TO THIS REVIEW: After posting this review I did receive a message from Dr. Ito offering to help resolve the situation. read more

I had two problems with this place - I go in for my first appointment, everyone's nice and it was easy to schedule. Go in, take the standard tests, then they sit me down in front of this huge machine I had not seen before. Ok, whatever - Finish up the appointment & Dr. Ito asks if I'd like to do an extra test - costs a bit more (like $40 or so iirc), and she explains what it does. I was a little hesitant, but hey, it's my eyes, right? I get up out of the chair to take it, when she tells me it's this test I've already taken - just seemed a bit weird & a little shady to charge me after the fact for this exam I've already taken - were they not going to use that info if I hadn't paid & it turned out to be important? Then I get my prescription and for the next week I start to get splitting headaches, blurry vision. I go back in, she rechecks me, tells me everythings fine and the prescription is right. I re-emphasize the splitting headaches and she just repeats herself. So I go to another doctor (Dr Hoff on Abbot Kinney), and he checks the prescription - it's a little off according but not too much, but then he correctly diagnoses that my problems were due to the curvature of my previous glasses frame compared to the straightness of my new ones (my old ones were pretty curved along the face & the new ones were totally straight). He adjusted the frames and problem solved. What other folks say about about ease of making, positive attitude of the staff and such may be correct but I can't recommend going to a doctor who, upon telling them I have a serious problem, basically tells me, no, I don't. read more
