My wife has gone to Visionworks for the last 6 years, and I started going there last year when my previous optometrist stopped taking my insurance plan. While I agree that Dr. Ito and the staff are very nice, after my recent experiences, we are never going back. I went in for new glasses about 6 months ago. Their first error was to tell me that my glasses would be covered by insurance, only to call me back after my visit to tell me that they were not, and thus I owed them a good bit more money (about $150). Their second order was to sell me the glasses without mentioning the anti-glare coating. I don't buy glasses often enough to remember that this is an option that one needs to ask for; I just assume that the optometrist will sell me glasses that work, and if there is an extra option that I should consider they will tell me about it. When the glasses arrived, I simply could not wear them, the glare was so bad. I took them back and the staff were nice enough to have them re-done with the anti-glare coating. About a month after my initial visit I finally had new glasses. Fast forward 6 months: I now have a pair of glasses that are so scratched that I cannot wear them, despite the fact that I have treated them just as well as my previous glasses, which are nowhere near as scratched after 6 years as these are after 6 months. I finally took the glasses back to Visionworks and asked if there was anything they could do. After looking at them, they told me that I had scratched them (even though the "scratches" are more like smudges where the coating has been damaged) and there was nothing they could do. When I pushed more to see if there was anything they could do to help me, they simply said no, blaming it on my insurance company. Threatening to take my and my wife's business elsewhere did not seem to have any effect. If you want to be treated nicely then definitely go here, just don't expect them to provide the guidance you need when buying glasses or to help if their products are defective. I had two problems with this place - I go in for my first appointment, everyone's nice and it was easy to schedule. Go in, take the standard tests, then they sit me down in front of this huge machine I had not seen before. Ok, whatever - Finish up the appointment & Dr. Ito asks if I'd like to do an extra test - costs a bit more (like $40 or so iirc), and she explains what it does. I was a little hesitant, but hey, it's my eyes, right? I get up out of the chair to take it, when she tells me it's this test I've already taken - just seemed a bit weird & a little shady to charge me after the fact for this exam I've already taken - were they not going to use that info if I hadn't paid & it turned out to be important? Then I get my prescription and for the next week I start to get splitting headaches, blurry vision. I go back in, she rechecks me, tells me everythings fine and the prescription is right. I re-emphasize the splitting headaches and she just repeats herself. So I go to another doctor (Dr Hoff on Abbot Kinney), and he checks the prescription - it's a little off according but not too much, but then he correctly diagnoses that my problems were due to the curvature of my previous glasses frame compared to the straightness of my new ones (my old ones were pretty curved along the face & the new ones were totally straight). He adjusted the frames and problem solved. What other folks say about about ease of making, positive attitude of the staff and such may be correct but I can't recommend going to a doctor who, upon telling them I have a serious problem, basically tells me, no, I don't. read more

EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY - The office itself, the doctor, and the staff! Really love Dr. Ito. She found a condition I have that NO ONE ever has, and I've been around for a long time! It is something that can be dealt with, when I receive the proper glasses prescription. Her nurse, Antwanett, was also spectacular. I felt 100% taken care of. They have all the highest tech equipment - better than LenseCrafters! - and when Antwanett adjusted my old glasses for me, she was so detail oriented that she even removed the glasses from the frames to do the most spectacular job of cleaning/adjusting the three pair that I brought it. This was my first visit to Ocean Park Optometry and wow I was impressed. The staff are professional, competent and charming. They know exactly what they are doing and the equipment is cutting edge, I was truly impressed when Doctor Ito showed me detailed 3D images of my eyes on the computer screen and took the time to describe the areas of my eyes that require careful monitoring. Atwonet was also very kind and helpful in walking me through my insurance options and helping me choose a good pair of glasses. I'm glad to see this office has such good reviews. This is one of the best doctors I've ever been to. Every experience I've had has been positive. The opticians are super friendly and helpful, the wait times are short, and Dr. Ito is very thorough. I bought a pair of frames from Lenscrafters who did a horrible job of fitting them to my face, and Visionworks was more than happy to readjust them to fit me...free of charge. They have lots of contacts in stock, which is great for procrastinators like me who wait til they're down to the very last pair before going in for their annual exam. I found Visionworks through the directory of my insurance. I picked this place out since it was one of the few providers with a website and online appointment schedule. The other one I noted had lasik and botox services too, so thought better of it. I had an eye exam and bought my glasses in forty minutes. Thanks to all the ladies for helping me pick out a frame. Pretty fast and efficient. The equipment is all the latest and greatest as far as I can tell. If you can't handle the puff test like me, just tell them and they can numb you eyes and check manually. The initial work is done by the staff and the rest is done by the doc. The rest being the staying at the side of your eye with a bright light and the "is lens 1 or 2 better?" part. They have some eye mapping thing for an extra 44 bucks. I personally think it is a bit of upselling for hypochondriacs. Props to Dr. Ito for noticing that my eyes are vertically misaligned... no other doc has ever figured out and I look forward to see how my new glasses will work out. The downsides are that there are not a ton of glasses available, though you should probably be able to find yourself a decent pair and that you have to wait two weeks for your new glasses. Some people might find their service a little brisk. I think Dr. Ito's very blunt and direct, which some more sensitive people might feel is rude. I didn't really have a problem with that. I think that if my vision plan didn't cover most of my costs, I would go to Lenscrafters as I have for years, but overall, this is fine. I think if you are not on insurance $129 is a lot for an exam. But it is was better, faster and more efficient than Lenscrafters, as they usually have you wait around before and between your various tests. I think the lens are less expensive, while the frames are about the same price compared to Lenscrafters. read more

I **love** Dr. Ito and her staff - I've been to several eye doctors and none were able to solve my near vision problems, but Dr. Ito came up with an elegant easy solution (with a different contact lens combination)! They were so professional and quick they didn't need to guess anything they just knew like a true expert. I've been a patient/customer here for several years. Visionworks has friendly and competent staff that knows how to work with your insurance offerings. Antwanett in particular is well versed in this, and is always consistently kind, respectful, and professional. If you're purchasing contacts or glasses, she will patiently take you through all of your options and price out the bells and whistles based on your insurance coverage. I'd been to three other optometrist offices before Visionworks, so I know what typical offerings are. I saw some reviewers who seemed confused about why the Opto-map was optional - but I think that this is actually pretty standard practice for offices with the Opto-map machine. Its right that they make it optional, because its not a procedure that is covered by insurance. And if you do have some risk factors for retinal issues, you probably do want the option of using the technology. I don't know if they still have them, but they used to have these laminated papers that clearly spelled out these types of charges. I like having the option of scheduling an appointment on the web, and confirming my appointments via text message. I like not having to do the eye puff for glaucoma testing. I trust Dr. Ito's medical expertise - I do not need my doctor to be my best friend, I need them to be competent and give me the best patient care that I can reasonably expect. Lastly, when I did have a scary eye issue due to a bad reaction to a particular contact lens solution (Opti-free Pure Moist for me is satan in a bottle), I felt like Dr. Ito and her staff addressed my concerns professionally and practically (with my type of insurance coverage in mind). I was prescribed drops to heal faster (and they electronically send your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice, so that its already being prepared for you by the time you leave!), and also received sample products to soothe my eyes while they were recovering. I really like Ocean Park Optometry. I recently moved to Long Beach so I was considering finding a new eye doctor but after my appointment yesterday, I think I will stick with them forever! I recently went here for an exam and refill my contact prescription. I'm relatively new to the neighborhood, so it was the yelp reviews that lead me to this place. Great staff, great service, great selection. I've never had my blood pressure taken before by an optometrist, but hey, I'm knew to the US healthcare system, so I figure there's going to be some differences. Very up to date on trends, and in regards to my contacts, they had me switch to a new lens as my old one didn't exist anymore. Very comfortable and no complaints. My only issue is that there are a few things they offer part of an eye exam which "aren't covered" by insurance companies (not just mine, all). They made these tests sound extremely important. This isn't so much their issue as it is the healthcare system, but if it's so important and considered part of general eye health, why would it cost extra on top of my insurance plan? Anyways. I'll be a repeat customer as long as I'm in the neighborhood. read more

if you are looking for a doctor that is going to take your money by any means possible AND LIES this place is for you!! I booked in as a new patient online day before yesterday and had a selection of multiple appointments with multiple doctors on every day of the week. I booked in for today at 11:00 am. This morning I tried to reschedule due to a sleepless night from my chronic insomnia. I got 3 hours of sleep and informed them that I felt it might affect the exam results as I am feeling light headed and my eyes were blood shot. They wanted to charge me 45 dollars to reschedule. I said that I wouldn't pay that fee as I knew they had multiple appointments available and I was a new patient. After she agreed to wave the fee she then said the next available appointment was over a month wait. Who has time in their life for bitchy retaliation and lying when it comes to medical attention. I was having issues with my previous lenses and her staff supplied me with an extra pair of contacts until my appt. I even think Dr Ito got a little excited when my vision required a weaker strength and now both eyes are the same strength! She seems to love what she does for people and their sight! I have been going to Visionworks Optometry for several years now. I don't work or live near it anymore but I continue to come for my yearly contact lens exam because scheduling appointments are always easy and the staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable. I have changed jobs but luckily it is the same insurance. I am also happy I have purchased eyeglasses here. There was 30% discount on the frames since I purchased them within 30 days of my contact lenses purchase. I was especially happier since I found out they accept care credit card for any purchase over $300. I found this very helpful since my purchase was around the holidays and I couldn't afford to pay by cash or checking account. I can not say enough good things about Visionwork Optometry and I hope my review will bring new business to them. read more

I just left ocean park optometry and cannot say enough wonderful things about this place AND my experience. While it was a challenge to adhere to their stringent COVID regulations , I so appreciated the extra care and diligence. I could shop with 100% confidence that EVERYTHING was cleaned and sanitized!!! Such a relief. Then given a slot appointment and after screening and check in, I was afraid that I would get rushed to go through things , pick glasses, rushed out, etc. you all know the drill... NOTHING could be farther from the truth!!!! They never ever rushed me, heaven knows how many pair of glasses I was allowed to try on, they sat with me explaining the different options, process and care taken with each order, and even did my measurements so if I had to order them over the phone, they would be ready to accommodate my needs!!!! I was truly blown away. I was even allowed to show the three pair I was thinking about to go outside and let my daughter see them. What heart and sensitivity and understanding they had!!! The sweetest young lady took care of me ( not mentioning her name just in case for her privacy) - she was honest, forthright, and beyond patient. I cannot thank her enough. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Ocean Park Optometry. The staff is friendly, professional, and courteous - and very knowledgeable. Dr. Ito knows her stuff, she is very competent, and she invests in the cutting edge equipment to ensure your optimum eye health. I have been assisted mostly by Karen, and Antwanett and Quenia have also helped me. All three are very positive, and very capable. The frame selection contains a lot of variety, as well as designer frames, so sometimes it's difficult to make a choice, but Karen always is very patient with me as I sort through the options, and she'll tell me if she thinks a certain style isn't the best for me in her opinion, but she never tries to push her opinion on me. Would not fully re-check my prescription which was clearly wrong even though they said they would on the phone and on the prescription. All they offered was to let me wear some contraption with my prescription which I told they was blurry. Other that, they said I had to paid because I did not buy from them. Now have three pairs of glasses with wrong prescription and have to start all over with new doctor out of pocket after OPO burned up all my insurance. If you don't buy their OVERPRICED glasses they shame you. Horrible. Waste of time and money. Given I believe Yelp is pay to play like BBB, OPO will probably bury this review. read more

I already had a prescription and was simply looking to purchase some glasses so I found visionworks on yelp and decided to give them a try. I picked a pair of frames out and within a week and a half my glasses were ready. I mainly wear contacts and I'm nearsighted so the first couple weeks of having my glasses I only wore them a few times to study. One night my contacts were bugging me so I opted for my new lenses; I got in my car and when it was much too late discovered that my left eye had nearly no prescription in it at all! The road was completely blurry out of my left eye, on top of it being dark. I brought my glasses back in at which point they informed me that the prescription was "off". I'm relieved that nothing happened as it could have been a very dangerous situation, but more than anything am disappointed at Visionworks complete negligence. The employee informed me that the glasses hadn't been checked upon arrival, and they didn't even have me try them on to see if the prescription was correct when I came and picked them up! All in all, I don't think this mistake is excusable and won't be using this office again. read more

We made an appointment here over a month ago based on the stellar reviews. Checked in ten minutes early and waited. And waited. No communication, no expectation setting on when we would be seen. Our first appointment time came and went again with no communication. After waiting 15 minutes past, we told them due to no communication, we were leaving. Unfortunately I can't speak to anything but the lackluster desk staff who stare like a deer in headlights. If you're running late, just say so. read more
