I found myself in the seemingly unlikely situation of needing a podiatrist. It always feels like…read morerolling the dice when you urgently require the services of a professional with whom you have no personal experience. I think I was very fortunate when, after some brief Googling around, found Dr. Marcia Matika. A few things about her: she is warm and cheerful. She is highly competent. She inspires trust. She confirmed the diagnosis of my foot problem and handled the surgery there in her offices with speedy efficiency on the same day. I spent almost no time waiting for her after arriving for my scheduled appointment. Her offices are clean and nice, in a good location with parking, and her front office staff is lovely. I was impressed not only by the experience itself but also by the attention to detail with follow-up and the like. And, as one of the millions of Americans who run small businesses and therefore find it difficult keeping health insurance, her fee for the treatment I needed was surprisingly reasonable. If you have any kind of foot/ankle problem, mild or serious, and are seeking treatment in the South Bay, Dr. Matika comes with my highest degree of recommendation.

Back in 2023 I felt a pop in my foot followed by progressive foot and calf pain. I first visited…read morethis provider in 2024 with these issues. After a calf MRI and X-rays with no visible issues and a walking test, this provider determined that I could have possible blood flow or lower back/spinal disc issues, both of which I have never had or dealt with in my entire life and recommended I get both checked. After driving hours across town for a blood flow test that came back normal, I nixed seeking out a back doctor and decided to go to a different foot doctor, for foot pain, after not getting any diagnosis from this provider. Within the next year, I did 2 rounds of physical therapy, both of which only helped for a few months, with the pain returning shortly after the PT ended. In September 2025 the pain was becoming increasingly worse and I decided to try custom orthotics since my arch was now progressively collapsing inward. After learning from other providers that their orthotics only last 2-3 years, I returned to this provider to get them because she had told me in 2024 that the ones she provides are carbon fiber and allegedly last forever. After more X-rays and more walking tests and explaining exactly where it hurt, I was still dismissed by this provider but I desperately needed something to support my collapsing foot so I still continued with the orthotics. I asked the provider what would happen if they didn't work for me I was told they could be sent back to the lab and adjusted until they fit well. The mold that the provider took of my foot was of my now collapsed foot/arch therefore when the orthotics were created, they didn't support my foot in the way I desperately needed. After a month of wearing them, I went back to this provider and asked if the arch could be raised and I was met with a firm "No" and accused of questioning the provider's medical expertise. I walked out of the office, sat in my car and cried. I called my sister to explain the situation of how much pain I was in and how I desperately needed something to help and she advised me to go back into the office and demand the arch be raised and so I did just that. I was still met with hesitation and attitude from the provider but ultimately these orthotics have prevented my foot from passing stage I of progressive flat foot deformity. The provider claimed to have talked to my insurance to make sure the orthotics were fully covered but then submitted the claim with the wrong code, resulting in the orthotics portion of the claim not being covered. The claim was grouped with a physician visit so I only owed a copay. The provider then continuously sent bills for what was not covered which is not allowed when a provider has a contract with insurance companies. I had to call my insurance company multiple times after months of receiving bills in the mail and insurance reached out to the provider multiple times to explain they were going against their contract. A complaint was also filed against this provider with the insurance company. This is absolutely fraudulent behavior by a doctors office. I am writing this review after all this time because I recently saw an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed me with a strain/tear (hard to say which since it was almost 3 years ago) of a crucial ligament in the foot that stabilizes the medial longitudinal arch of the foot. A tear/sprain results in pain, instability and a progressive, flatfoot deformity. I am in a place where walking of any capacity causes pain in my foot, ankle, knee, glute and lower back so I will soon be having surgery to hopefully reverse this damage that I feel was overlooked by this provider on multiple occasions over many years. I am deeply angry at the lack of care I was provided at this office and all the time and money I spent. I urge others with complex foot issues to seek out better care elsewhere and always advocate for yourself.

I had high hopes initially, but over time I realized he lacks, or is unwilling, to be honest, or admit either differences in opinions regarding stem cell usage or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), or admit misdiagnosis/acknowledge the difficulty in diagnosing something, or errors in sizing orthopedic inserts. He comes off incredibly arrogant, and incapable of admitting a mistake or an wrong doing. Then I realized podiatrists aren't really "medical" doctors... the term MD is reserved for orthopedists, so after getting nowhere, I went to Cedars. I was also told I had to make two separate appointments to receive a short (dress shoe) and long (regular shoe) inserts (made at the same time, and available at the same time) because that's what my insurance requires (BCBS). I've never had to do that before, so now I need to research the validity of this claim to know if they're just trying to gouge patients.
