Was in DC on 7/9/21. Initially went to Old Ebbitt Grill for crab cake entree. Was disappointed to learn that it was removed from the menu. From experience, I knew Ocean Prime had a decent crab cake so ventured there. My meal was to go, therefore ordered at the bar. Both the hostess and bartender were extremely pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was pretty busy so placing order did take a little while. The bartender's demeanor more than made up for the wait. I reviewed the menu and realized that the crab cake was on their starters menu on the lunch menu, so opted for the burger as I really wanted an entree. Order went downhill from there. I placed an order for a burger and clearly stated that I wanted it well done, absolutely no pink. Returned to my office and came back to pick up my burger about 25 minutes later. Returned to the office, bit into the burger and found raw meat and oozing blood. Ok mistakes happen. I called the restaurant, was transferred to the bar. Bartender apologized profusely explained that she requested well done so wasn't sure why it wasn't cook as desired. Offered to give me a refund but after remembering that I paid cash, said that she couldn't. I was still hungry and by this time lunch time had come and gone. I instead opted for a redo. I mean the chef couldn't get the wrong temperature twice in a row, right? WRONG! I waited another 25 minutes, went to pick up the 2nd burger, got it back to my desk, cut into and once again, the meat was raw on the inside. Disgusted, I tossed the $24 dollar burger (cost plus tip) in the trash and gave up on lunch for the day. I have been to Prime on multiple occasions and this was the first time I was dissatisfied. Not sure that I would write Prime off completely, but definitely wouldn't do the burger again and will stay away from carry out if I can. read more

Went the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Service was fine and attentive. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly and the potatoes au gratin had a little kick from the jalapeño. Hard not to give a 4 star review but the experience matters as much as food at these prices. First, the food was fantastic. Had sea bass and started with the ravioli. Wow! Ordered the manhattan off the drink menu and I never do that but I'm glad I did. Super. When I got service it was very good. I sat at the bar and mostly had the same bartender all night. He helped me navigate the menu and make good decisions. Oh, and he made the great manhattan. The problem was how long it took to get service. Neither the bar nor restaurant were very busy but the guys were just kind of hanging or walking by when I wanted to order or ask a question. Lasltly, the place feels tired. Old decor, feels like the 80s but not in a charming or nostalgic way. Bottom line - want a great meal and a great cocktail - come to Ocean Prime. My boyfriend and I were in town for the night with his parents, staying at the JW Marriott down the street. We were looking for a place to grab a drink and ended up staying for dinner. The bartenders were friendly and kept our bowl of popcorn full while we sipped on wine and waited for a table to open up. All of the entrees were delicious but my scallops stole the show. Great service, beautiful decore and ambiance but the food is the true star at Ocean Prime. My girlfriend and I had reservations here last Friday at 915 PM. We called around 9 to let them know we may be up to 15 minutes late and we're repeatedly told if we were more than 15 minutes late we would lose our table. The girl that answered the phone named Lyss or Liss was nasty the entire conversation and for a $200 or more dinner I expected to be treated better. Had a wonderful dinner here this week. The restaurant is beautiful. The service is friendly and prompt. The food was wonderful. I had a portion of multiple appetizers, of which my favorite were the crab cakes (a bit spicy and served with a delicate corn salad) and the calamari (some of the best I've had anywhere.) I had a filet mignon but also tried the scallops. Both were delicious. My steak was a little rarer than I anticipated but the kitchen promptly fixed it, so no complaints. I cannot comment on the cocktails as I had wine. I recommend this place for everything from date nights to treating yourself to a nice dinner after work. I'll be back for sure. read more

How many times in one's life do you get to talk about 'smoking shrimp cocktail' arriving to your table! Me? Never. This experience was a first. My performing shrimp were just the tip of the 'dry ice/liquid nitrogen' iceberg if you will. Manhattan ordered. Not sure why it's in a champagne tulip glass and barely of substance/volume. $15 for not much. Don't waste your calories on the bread basket. The pretzel log was hard and impossible to eat. The white bread, mediocre at best. Lobster roll (sushi) was next. Good enough. The tuna was good. I'm just confused by the butter sauce it was placed on. For the level /price point this restaurant places itself on, I would expect some dress code. A woman walked by in workout leggings, Uggs, a shirt. A lot of men in ripped jeans and polo shirts. Beautifully decorated but I came for the food. Service was good. read more

So we came here on our last night in DC and it turned out the place was fully booked because they have restaurant week (similar to dineout Vancouver) going. We got seats at the bar anyway and proceeded to order a three course meal for 35 $. We were all very satisfied. I had French Onion soup, which was good, a bit too thick, but delicious nonetheless. Main course was filet, which was good. My friends had scallops which were also good. Dessert was bread pudding and carrot cake. The cake was perfect, but the pudding felt a bit too set. Drinks - A manhattan, beer, and black orchid were all boozy and gratifying. Overall good experience. The place is pricy and what we paid was a great deal. Everyone but us were dressed to T, yet that did not affect our service which is a good thing. I would return when in town to try the a la carte menu. Good job! Though it would have been nice to serve bread to us on the bar as we ordered a full dinner, same as you did for those on tables. read more

But for a steak and seafood house in a business district, the food just ought to be better...and more like what's on the menu. Steaks I've had are decent but nothing to write home about. A Spicy Tuna Poke on the menu was served as a barely fiery tartar with a both raw and cooked fish. Not terrible. But not great either. The bread basket with pretzel bread is pretty good...but service had a few slip-ups on a recent visit. A friend, eating a dish that required a knife, wasn't offered one and had to borrow mine. We went out for a Sunday dinner and had a great time. The atmosphere was excellent. A quiet class is what I would call it. Our waiter Justin was great, he kind of looked like our son. He didn't mind our substitution even on there Sunday Surf and Turf special. I highly recommend this because the food was plentiful and the price was more than reasonable. First time at this location, and I'm so glad it didn't miss. Got the lamb chops, teriyaki salmon, scallops, king crab legs, Dynamite Roll (sushi), and Chilean sea bass with some sides. All of it was amazing and I'm glad to have finally found a notable seafood restaurant in DC. The only dish that left me wishing for more was the Sea Bass, the consistency was there in terms of texture, but the flavor wasn't. The salmon though!! A complete hit across the whole table! Every aspect of that dish blew me away, highly recommend. The Dynamite Roll was also one of my favorites on the table if you feel for sushi, I think I'm willing to go out on a ledge and it's my favorite sushi I've ever had. This place makes me feel like a celebrity. I've been to Ocean Prime twice before but I had a reservation last week for a girls night out with my mom and sister and they were amazed! I obviously started off with my favorite Instagram-worthy drink Berries & Bubbles (too cool). For appetizers we ordered the Calamari- it was my first time trying it, very good. For dinner we ordered the 10 oz Filet with Béarnaise, Halibut and of course the 16 oz Ribeye WITH GARLIC SHRIMP SCAMPI (a must). For dessert our waiter recommended the creme brûlée and ten layer carrot cake- both amazing. The service here is exceptional, everyone is very welcoming and I will definitely be back again! read more

I surprised my husband with dinner here to celebrate his birthday and everything was simply amazing. I called a couple of days prior to make the reservation and let them know that we would be celebrating his birthday. As soon as we arrived, the hostess acknowledged his birthday and made him feel so special. Once seated at our table, we were immediately given menus and asked what type of water we would like. Shortly after, our server came over and surprised us with champagne in celebration of my husband's birthday (such a nice touch!). We had the surf and turf appetizer and shared the lobster bisque soup. I ordered the teriyaki salmon for my entrée and he ordered the blackened snapper. Everything tasted super fresh and yummy! Also, our server Edwardo did a great job at explaining the menu and making suggestions for us. Edwardo ended our night with the best butter cake I've ever had in my life! Being a huge fan of seafood, I had to check out Ocean Prime for DC Restaurant Week. This was an easy train ride on the Redline which was already a win for me! Walking in I took note of the ambiance which was a mix between romantic but business chic. I can dig it. I was greeted by a hostess and host then escorted to my table which my friend was already waiting. I was 15mins late so thank goodness that they are flexible with their grace period. To start we were presented with all the menus; regular, Restaurant Week and the wine list. I was famished and by the looks of the menu this was a place that you go to celebrate something special! ($$$$$) I graciously accepted the RW menu (which I already checked out earlier in the day). Our waiter said that he would give us to time to review the menu which we used to catch up on each other's day. When he returned we put in our orders and munched on the pretzel bread and our ice waters. As tired as we were we opted out of drinking that night. To start I ordered the French onion soup. Being the foodie that I am, I have had this dish many times, including in Paris! Yes, the one in Paris at this cute mom and pop shop was the best in the land but this was a close second (in line with my homemade of course). Their It was really rich and cheesy; just the way that I like it. While all the versions I have had were with gruyere cheese, OP uses aged swiss cheese. It was pretty darn good. They also add brandy which gave it a subtle kick. Presentation was tempting and simple. Perfection. My entree was the sea scallops and parmesan risotto dish. This came with English peas and citrus vinaigrette. I decided to spruce it up and add the shrimp scampi "accessories" option for an up-charge. Well something must has crossed the communication lines because my scallops and shrimp came out but no risotto. The same thing happened to my friend who's scallops came out with the Oscar style accessories but no risotto. I figured maybe the waiter had too much and it was coming after so we sat...and sat...then we saw some other scallops dishes come out with the risotto on the bottom as was anticipated and realized that there was some confusion. We called our waiter over and he said that he thought we did not want the risotto. We clarified that we wanted the risotto but with the accompaniments that we chose. He apologized and ran back to the kitchen. A few minutes later he said that the risotto was in the works and would be out soon; so we sat... I wanted to eat my risotto with my seafood. It did not take too long but the risotto came out and we were able to enjoy our meal. It was still delicious but I was a bit put off because I was so excited for the beautiful presentation all the other scallops dishes had. At that point I was too hungry to request a whole new dish so I ate it. Thank goodness everything was delish. It helped me get over my mood in the best way possible. I was so stuffed that I could not even enjoy my dessert option which was the cinnamon roll bred pudding with a side of salted caramel ice cream (added for $2). I asked our waiter to please pack it up rather than bring it out and cancel the ice cream I had a taste of my friend's dessert which was the same. It was warm and gooey! Its been 3 days and I have not had it yet but I've got plans for it this week. I have been on a RW binge....no time to eat it! Anyway, despite my minor sad moment with my dish service was superb and the entire meal was delish. I definitely want to return for a special occasion or celebration dinner. Amazing Meal AND Great Service AND Warm Atmosphere - the trifecta that can't be beat! My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner and had the best meal we've had in a While. We both had the surf&turf prix fixe option. He chose the Ceaser salad and the crab cake with truffle mac&cheese. I went with the french onion soup, scallops with my steak, and bacon spinach as my side. BACON SPINACH is an absolute MUST - whoever was the genius behind this dish deserve every accolade! The rest of the meal was on par as well - the filets were perfectly cooked to our order and tender, the red wine jus with my steak was perfectly complimented by the melting truffle butter that I added on. I couldn't even go for a desert (although the warm butter cake sounded scrumptious). Big Thanks to KYLE, our server, for the friendly and courteous, yet non-invasive, service and on point recommendations. Don't do it! Went here for a birthday dinner and it was horrendous. Ordered the black orchid drink, the server told us after she flopped it onto the table that they were out of the orchids, when we asked to send back the server rolled her eyes as if we had made the mistake. The drink she brought was also half full, seems like the server may have spilled it out on our way to the table. She claimed that she was out of the orchid ice balls and said, "oh so you have had it before" as if she was trying to get one over us. We ordered appetizers and main entrees and literally two minutes after our cold pasta appetizers (it is supposed to be a warm dish) were brought out, they sent our main entrees. We asked that they wait a few minutes to bring them out so that we could attempt to finish the cold goat cheese ravioli... After the main course was brought out the server attempted to clear our plates while we were still eating (mid bite). It was the most ridiculous service. They also forgot pieces of the order and incorrectly prepared two of the dishes. They ruined the birthday dinner, they didn't even wish the birthday girl happy birthday and pretty much ruined everybody's dishes. This is the second time We have been to this location and had appalling service. The server never apologized and constantly made errors. We went here for our Valentines Dinner a day early and I was excited because I heard great things about the place. I was able to make a reservation at the last minute and was seated promptly upon arrival. I was impressed with the ambiance if the place. The decor was great and perfect for a date night. We started with drinks. I offered a Moscow Mule which was okay and a Rum Punch that I really enjoyed. We then ordered dinner, crsb cakes and the lamb with sides of corn and the jalepeno au gratin. The crab cakes were really good and so was the corn; however the lamb was sub par for the price and the potatoes were somewhat salty. The food and drinks alone would have been 4 stars; however the service brings this place down. Upon delivery of the food I ordered another drink. Our waiter never came back to check on us or offer an update and my drink was not delivered until after I was done eating. I've been patronizing Ocean Prime for over 6 years, I normally sit at the Bar, with Rebecca who is amazing and knows the menu. since Covid I have developed severe anxiety , I refuse to take prescribed medication so I partake in medical marijuana and meditation , which is completely legal. the security guard yelled at us in the front lobby stating that we smelled like weed and that is agaist the restaurant policy. we quickly exited the establishment. while walking to my car i called and spoke with manager Tim, I explained nicely that I apologize and never wanted to disrespect the establishment however the security was loud and had embarrassed us and he could have asked us to step away first, Tim replied that the doorman was soft spoken and he can't see him yelling or raising his voice at all. I'm not upset at the rule which is why I left but the way they treated us was crazy for a very legal substance. if I'd smoke a ciigar or cigarette would they put me out then. Basically removing me because of my handicap! Shame on Ocean Prime and Tim! I will never ever go back ! read more
