One of my best meals in memory! We went to the pre-opening where they are still technically in training mode, but you'd hardly have known it except perhaps for the preponderance of managers everywhere. If they had service kinks to work out, I didn't see them! We started at the bar, where our bartender was friendly and efficient. She made a great Old Fashioned and Cosmo. The drinks were not cheap, but they were well made, right down to the chilled martini glass for my Cosmo. The live music for the pre-opening was a nice touch in the bar area. On to dinner at a nice table in a side section of the restaurant, that allowed for a bit quieter atmosphere. Knowing we planned to dine on some big steaks, we thought we would just start with a Caesar salad, but our waiter steered toward some more interesting starters. We're really glad he did. I had the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli and was in heaven! A delicate, delicious sauce. My husband had the Tuna tartar and loved it as well. I'm not big on seafood, but I did taste his Ahi tuna over Avacado and sesame ginger. It was excellent. We split a Caesar salad as well. It was a little different than your average Caesar, and I really liked the twist. I thought it was delicious. Maybe it was the garlic in the dressing? Hard to put my finger on it. Then came the filets. Mine with bearnaise, his was blue cheese crusted. Both were amazing! The bearnaise was thick and freshly made, with a delicious flavor. The steaks hardly needed any help, but the accompaniment was welcome. For sides we tried the creamed spinach and Jalopeno au gratin potatoes. As with everything we tried, the sides had their own twist on some very traditional things, and tasted all the better for it. Somehow, the spinach in the creamed spinach still had a bit of crunch to it, making it all the more satisfying and delicious. The Jalapeno flavor of the potatoes was not at all overwhelming. Just a bit of a kick to make them interesting and all the more tasty! Sure, we were full by this time, but with so many good things passing before us, we had to sample dessert! We went for the chocolate cake and were not disappointed! Just delicious! Creamy, not overly sweet, and obviously fresh. I can't think of anything to fault them on. The wait staff were all amazing, the food was divine. I liked the decor of the dining rooms, especially the coral in the window between the rooms. This is one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed. I hope they can keep up the food and service quality levels. But given that this group has successful restaurants all over the country, I think that is an easy bet. read more

Excellent all around. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and we had amazing helpful service. To start my meal off I ordered the French onion soup and my family split a roll of the sushi. The French onion soup was rich and delicious and the cheese was to die for. The sushi melted in your mouth, hands down the best sushi I ever eaten. (I would go back just for the sushi anytime) I had the filet mignon cooked medium rare and it was perfect, well seasoned, and incredibly tender. My family also order the scallops and the lobster tails and once again they were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the New York cherry cheesecake and the crème brûlée. The cheesecake was to die for so soft and creamy, and the crème brûlée was the perfect balance of sweet. The meal was quite pricy but easily worth every penny. read more

Friends and I recently stopped into Ocean Prime during DC Restaurant Week. Needless to say, we WILL be going back. The food was exceptional - full of flavor, generous portions - and the service (we were waited on by Brian) was noteworthy. He was professional yet personable. The steak - filet mignon - was flavor-filled, fork tender, and juicy. The lobster bisque was among the best I've ever had - it may have even eclipsed the gold standard at Capital Grille. I normally love this place, but on a recent visit during restaurant week I was not impressed. Maybe it's because it was a discounted meal, but the teriyaki salmon & rice was not of Ocean Prime quality. The rice was regular white rice poorly prepared & I'm not sure if the salmon was different, but I know that mushy rice did not compliment it well. If you cannot offer Ocean Prime quality dishes at the discounted rates, do not participate in Restaurant Week. Your reputation is much more valuable that the savings from cheap rice!! Came during restaurant week (summer '18) had the Caesar, 8 oz filet and 5 layer carrot cake. Decor is beautiful and the service was really great from the hostess to our waiter which we would expect for a restaurant at the steakhouse price point. The food was all just ok. My salad was severely overdressed and the dessert was very dense. The steak was cooked perfectly but not an impactful flavor so seasoning could be improved. Omg!!!!! Decided to come here for my birthday and this was by far the best birthday dinner yet. The interior decorating is perfect! This restaurant blew Ruth Chris far out of the way. The lighting is so secluded and intimate. The food is delicious and better than those chain restaurants like Ruth Chris and Morton's. The waiter was patient and didn't rush us at all, even when it was close to closing. The drinks were amazing and you could taste the freshness of the seafood. We celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary here and had the best time! The food was amazing and unlike any other steakhouse. The service was impeccable and couldn't have asked for a better celebration with my husband. I got the lamb chops, medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. My favorite sides were the black truffle mac n cheese and fried calamari. I will forgive the long serving time and chalk it up to being mothers day. The food was hit and miss. The truffle popcorn was a pleasant surprise starter. The scallops and tuna main dishes were just okay. The recommended doneness for these dishes was more than I'm used to. And it may have been silly to order steak at a seafood restaurant but our party ordered a filet medium rare. It came out well done. Sent back and although returned quickly, was still well done (seriously, not the slightest hint of pink). By then it was too late for anything else so she filled up on the side dishes. They very nicely removed the steak from the bill and comp'd the desserts (coconut cake and 10 layer carrot cake - both really good). But still a bit of a bummer for a holiday meal. Everything was great! It did take a while for the waitress to come back and take our order after she asked if we had any questions. They were very busy for a Wednesday! I ordered the 6oz Filet and it was perfectly cooked. I also ordered a side of the whipped mashed potatoes, they were super creamy and amazing. My boyfriend ordered the sea scallops with risotto. It only came with 4 scallops yet they were perfectly seared. To top off our dinner we ordered the 10 layer carrot cake. It was great. Definitely recommend if you're looking to have a special dinner! Very disappointing experience. I first visited this place in Orlando on my birthday... everything about that experience was divine. So naturally we had to come by to the DC location, given its proximith to home My experience this time, however, was ridiculously disappointing. First the hostess couldn't find our reservation which was strange given that they called us last night to confirm our dinner time and occasion. Our server seemed like she was bored out of her mind and did not want to serve us at all. She was terrible with suggestions, could not answer any questions... She knew it was my birthday and she did not care to make it special. Meanwhile we had servers all around us making it special for their guests. Complementary desserts, servers singing... I got none of that... The server did wish me happy birthday 3 times though. Finally, we asked to take home one of our sides. She took it in and never brought it back out and did not even apologize for it. Terrible experience given that we spent a large sum On a birthday dinner for 2 people. For the price we paid, I loved this place for their food and wait person, also the atmosphere. We ordered calamari for appetizer and creme bruree for desert to share and main dish for each without sides. They were big enough portions that we were full and we needed a to go package for the calamari. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and fun to talk to. The reason I am giving one less star is the person who picked up the phone when I was making reservation did not sound pleasant enough to be the first person to greet over the phone. My family has visited Ocean Prime in Dallas, Texas and in DC several times. We had the unfortunate experience to visit this restaurant on Friday during restaurant week. Where shall I begin, firstly we had to wait over 20 minutes for our reserved seating time. We were only seated after I spoke to them a total of 3 times letting them know that my Mother, who has a cane, was standing the entire time (they gave us seating in the bar area, where there are high seats). Secondly, the service, which normally is excellent was far below the standard that we've received in the past. The server was inattentive. One guest ordered lamb, we were told, oh we are out of lamb. I said well that's the first thing that you should start with, letting us know what is not available and any specials, mind you it was only 7:50pm (out of lamb already????). He took our drink order, came back with the drinks, and then we placed our entire order. I had to ASK if bread was coming, the bread arrived AFTER our side dish (at this point we've been in the restaurant at total of about 40 minutes). OH, I forgot, instead of having my Mom sit in the booth, we were asked if we wanted a chair placed at the table, we said yes. The chair was placed, WITHOUT ANY SERVING UTENTILS ON THE TABLE. I moved the entire serving utentils, plates, etc. all the while our SERVER noticed and didn't come over nor did he attempt to assist. After receiving our food, the server never came back to ask if we wanted additional drinks. I had to make eye contact with him to get him to come over, we sat after finishing dinner, again I HAD to make eye contact and then I ASKED for the dessert menus. Just terrible service all around. I will NEVER return during restaurant week and am contemplating never returning period, unless we are in Dallas. I talked to the manager Alex, because I noticed this is most likely the reason why the restaurant was not turning table around quickly. We had a 730pm reservation, didn't get seated until 7:50pm and didn't leave the restaurant until almost 10pm!!!! Ridiculous! read more

The food here is great, however the service was horrendous. When ordering our food I asked for a split bill to separate alcohol and the food for business reimbursement reasons. I was told that it was against company policy to split bills. After some discussion the server reluctantly agreed to make an exception. She told us that if we visit again to make sure we understand that they don't split bills. Trust me, there is no worry about me repeating the mistake of eating here again. We had a great entrée, but when the server came back with the desert menus I asked where the restrooms were. She huffed and said I could go ask the hostess and she'd direct me to the restrooms. We made reservations for a Friday evening... when we arrived we were greeted and seated. We started off the night with their signature berry bubbles drink. The drinks are quite tasty... no their freaking amazing!!!! Dinner we had crab cakes, filet and the chillean sea bass. Sides: creamed spinach, truffle Mac n cheese and a baked potato. No complaints on any of our food choices. I seriously don't think you can wring with any food option. Our waiter Andrew was the best. I am currently dining at ocean prime for my friend's birthday and the service is subpar. The waitress has barely spoken to us, has yet been to check on us and provides very little overall customer service. But there is a table beside us that has been given all the time, energy, and respect of the waitress. It leads me to wonder if the color of our skin has anything to do with the subpar service. We have been waiting at every change of service from drink orders, appetizers, and even down to entrees. When questioned about the menu very little interaction or feedback was provided. I would have not come to this establishment if it was not feasibly affordable for my lifestyle. I am very disappointed and have been wanting to come here for months but am very dismayed.
