I always like to try "nice" steakhouses on my birthday. This year was Ocean Prime was selected for this year. It was excellent, I had the 10 oz filet with lobster mash and asparagus. Met 7 friends for Restaurant Week but went rogue and ordered from the regular menu and was I glad I did! Even though I had my ribeye well done it was so moist and flavorful! I had a salad and a side of Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were perfection. I don't drink or eat sugar so I can't give a firsthand account of those but our table went wild for a bubbling berry drink! It looks like a science project but they gave it high marks as they did for the Frozen Black Orchid. Everyone who had dessert had the carrot cake which they said was a disappointment. Not that it was bad but didn't live up to the hype. We were all here for the first time and left full and happy. Diamond was our server and he was on point! Got everything right the first time! Really good food, steak was ok we've had better BUT the snapper was to die for! Calamari was ok, a little heavy on the sauce so they weren't as crispy but the roasted Brussels sprouts were amazing. I live their pretzel bread... It can be very busy and chaotic near the bar, but once you enter the restaurant side its very intimate and quiet... I'd eat here again... Omg I have awesome friends! Had another birthday dinner last night at ocean prime, first time here for all 4 of us... and ambience, food, service... everything was on point! We ordered: shellfish tower - this is make your own, you pick what goes in the tower. They bring it out as a beautiful piece of art! We picked dozen oysters from east coast, lobster, and king crab legs. Portion we ordered was perfect for 4 people appetizer. Oysters were one of the best I had! Not grimey or no fishy after taste, just fresh and sweet. Entrees - 12oz ribeye, 10oz filet mignon, shellfish salad, and my yellowfin tuna. Flawless! ...although after the seafood tower presentation, entree presentation looked a bit toned down haha And I forgot to take pic of my tuna... because I was too excited to see all the food! We did order a salad to share, and I think the server thought we ordered it as a side dish... it was brought out with all the entrees. Actual side dishes - truffle mac & cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. You can really taste the truffles! After dinner we had couple drinks at the bar. Love this restaurant. I've been for dinner 3 times in the past month or so. Exquisite flavor and extensive menu options, and very nice ambiance. The carrott cake literally puts the icing on the cake! Lol. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because they refuse to enforce the dress code. Darnell should be fired! First it took me 3 calls to even get a call back to make a reservation for 10 people. The host continued to insist I speak to Darnell as groups of ten go in private rooms. When I finally got Darnell on the phone we reviewed the private room on line and I did not like it. It was a narrow conference room with a TV at the end. I told her this was a family function not a business dinner. She said we could be accommodated in the main dining room as long as we did not exceed 10 people. I called the week before our arrival to confirm they had the reservation and that it was in the main dining room. Darnell assured me it was. The day of our celebration the restaurant called to confirm our 6pm arrival for 10 in the private room. I explained to her it was in the main dining room and she said ok and ended the call. Upon arrival we were escorted to a private room across from the bathroom. It was a mess that left ten of us crowded in a hall way while I was being told that there was no other option. They finally brought the GM over who insulted me by saying he would waive the food and beverage minimum due to the "confusion". I told him the confusion is with multiple members of his staff. We said the only other option what a table in a small dining room off the main room. The room was super hot and everyone at our table as well as another couple In the room said it was an uncomfortable temperature for a meal. They brought a glass of champagne for the table on the house. I only mention because I felt it would be an unfair representation of the restaurant if I didn't. Personally it meant nothing to us; had they skipped it the review would be exactly the same. Our waiter, Brian, was excellent and did a nice job of trying to turn the evening around. The calamari was ok a bit chewy but good flavor. Frankly we all would have had individual appetizers but we were rattled and upset by the standing around for 30 mins prior to getting a table. By the time we were seated the excitement over the menu was gone. My husband had been eyeing the king crab or lobster with a steak since we chose the restaurant. By the time we were ordering I saw he ordered a steak and nothing else. I asked why and he said, "I just want to get out of here!". I ordered several sides for the table just because no one was interested any longer. The creamed spinach was excellent as was the corn. The Brussel sprouts were flavorful but way too hard. The asparagus was ok and the garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. From the 10 of us there were two rack of lamb that were excellent. The rest were all filet and NY strip steaks. From the seven steaks 3 were cooked as requested. My medium strip was well done and Luke warm when served. The drinks were amazing and the best part of the meal. For desert 8 had them and they were ok. It's a shame that due to personnel our family celebration was ruined. We wanted this to be our "go to" place when we are in town and now we will not return. I DO NOT understand the rave reviews about this place. Like someone else who left a 5-star review sit down with me and explain to me your reasoning. Are you a robot? Probably. Hostesses in the front are the most unwelcoming people. Now this can be excusable, but when you're a seafood place and your seafood is miserable, that's another story. We ordered the grouper- it was overlooked and tasteless. We also ordered a steak that was salted to oblivion. Sides were mediocre at best (they burned fries... THEY BURNED FRIES!!! How dare they). Decor is nice but I'm very confused about the vibe they're going for. People came in with jeans and shorts on but it looks like an upscale restaurant. Just confused by it all. Most redeeming factor was that our waiter was very pleasant and great so it kept us from sending everything back and getting up. It's also the only reason I'm giving it an extra star, because he was great. Was it worth $200 for a meal? Absolutely not, never in a million years. Save your money, McDonald's doesn't usually burn their fries. At half capacity on a Friday night, this place won't last long. read more

Made a last minute reservation for a same-day lunch after Sequoia restaurant canceled on me. Me and the lady ordered the Point Judith Calamari and the Surf n Turf for appetizers and the 14oz New York strip and teriyaki salmon for entrees. Bruh. Food shouldn't be tasting this good. Now I see how people can get addicted to eating. My steak ordered medium was cooked to epic perfection. Edges were seared properly and the flavor..... You can't make this stuff up. AVOID DINNER IN THE BAR. We were seated in the bar area which is sub-Prime. Our server was absent and erred repeatedly with our orders. We poured our own wine from a $175 bottle. I went here for my 50th birthday celebration and I enjoyed it overall. The ambience gets 5 stars. The food gets 4 stars, and our server gets 5 stars! Went there for lunch with colleague and client. Very nice decor and ambiance for an upscale establishment downtown. We ordered the scallops, snapper fish sandwich and snapper and salad. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. $83 for three of us plus tip. A little pricey but not unexpected. My only concern was the waitress was a little slow to bring the check after I asked her for it and perhaps a tad to casual. Went back for a second lunch. We all had salads, I had the crab wedge salad and it was very good. My only complaint is our waitress interrupted us several times while I was engaged in a serious conversation with my lunch guests. I came in with my 6month old - got some judgements from the hostesses but whatever, people with kids gottah eat too. A little pricey but all around great dinner, my waiter was the man and on point with the service. Next time I'm in DC I'll defiantly stop back in.
