I can't say enough positive things about Oceans Recovery and their incredible team. When I arrived, I was broken and didn't know if recovery was even possible for me. The professional staff didn't just help me get sober - they taught me HOW to stay sober, which has made all the difference. My experience with Oceans was a win! I am over 1 year sober now and had been to 3 other rehabs before going to Oceans. The staff took the time to get to know me and understand what it is that was keeping me from having a successful recovery experience. The facility itself is comfortable and right by the beach and we would take advantage of being close to the beach. The facility is a run down old motel, but what really makes it the worst program in California is the staff and the directors. They are liars, manipulators, and extremely rude. They do not care about people, only money. I have suffered from PTSD from my stay at Oceans Recovery. Absolutely the worst facility I've been to in my life. They want to diagnose every single person that walks in the door with an eating disorder. I think it's so they can double dip on the billing. I don't have an eating disorder. I was there for alcohol alcoholism. I've also read the comments below, and there are 100% spot on. You are forced to wait until they tell you you may sit down in the kitchen. You may not get up again not even for a glass of water you will ask for one you will sit down and eat whatever the hell they put on your effing plate or they be rate you belittle you and try to shame you. The week before I left two other girls left for the very same reason one girl ate a half a brownie and was forced to sit next to the desk all day every day for a week. The so-called Case Manager called my sister and actually told her not to buy me a ticket home. If I called and asked for one they did not offer to take me to the airport. In fact, they told me that's their dinner time and I could call an Uber. They stole my medication's. I went home with only three pills of each prescription that I had brought there from my primary care provider. I have reached out to the Better Business Bureau. The place is rundown and dingy. It's old some of the lights don't work kitchen lighting doesn't work in one apartment literally it's black burnout bulb that still has power to it. Please read the comments before you go to this worthless disgusting place. I was able to escape, but a lot of those poor little girls are still being shamed. read more

I had wanted to like (if not, to love) this facility and the people before I had walked in. I had never been treated with such disrespect in any facility in my entire life. As soon as I walked into the office by staff, I had not gotten even one greeting for about 20 minutes until I had to be the one to introduce myself. The intake went smooth, and contrary to what I had thought at first, the girls in treatment with me were actually extremely caring, sweet, and supportive. I had wanted to go home the first couple of hours because of the extreme off-putting energy I had felt, but I had stayed to give it more of a chance since the girls I've been in treatment with were awesome. The next day, I had gotten my blanket torn off of me and was told "Get up you're going to group" In the most disrespectful and condescending tone I've only heard ever since I've cut an abusive parent out of my life. This parent was the reason I had an eating disorder in the first place. I had said I didn't want to because of the disrespect in her voice and being borderline physical. I had been crying in my room soon after, and a tech named "Riley" had came in knowing that I've been upset, and said it was time to go to lunch. Again, in the most disrespectful manner. I said I didn't want to go (because of how I had just been woken up), and she responded, "Okay then I'm taking your f****** cigarettes" and left snatched them off my counter. Taking them was fine, but it was the way she had said it that was it for me. I refuse to be somewhere where the staff acts like my abuser. The clinical director was spiteful, unprofessional and did not give a d*** about how I felt or how triggered I was. She basically added to it and completely invalidated me. Before I left, I had asked what would happen if I was having a hard time eating or if I even wanted to, and was told they would have a talk with me and ask how I'm feeling. This was opposite the case. I was scrutinized and told that we won't leave the table until I finished and while being stared down. I wasn't scared in the moment, but just felt like I was sitting next to someone who doesn't care how I felt in the process of breaking me down. Guys, I'm a whole person- not a dog. They didn't believe any of my story, or that I had been treated like the gum off their shoe; Because why would they ever admit to that. I beg you all to please stay away from this place. My initial odd feelings about the energy were spot on. They have no AC. All of the bathrooms except for one (oddly the only one pictured) and ESPECIALLY the showers, were disgusting (there are no pictures of them). All the pictures in general are glorified and the place is really dingy. "State of the art" amenities are not real over here. I'm not sure what their "state of the art" means besides one surfing lesson a week. They had given me vyvance (an amphetamine) as they assumed that I was detoxing, which I had admittedly knew, but it shows the lack of quality of care. I had trusted them, but they were the worst service providers I've ever had the experience to deal with, and they don't care about feedback. While trying to tell my whole experience to the clinical director telling her they suck (which I shouldn't have said, but I was filled with crazy mental stress), she said, and I quote, "I don't care if we suck". I advise to please please avoid this place at all costs. There is a good reason why they have 3.0 stars. Don't give them the time of day, as they won't for you either. read more

If I could leave negative stars for this place, I would. I went there several years back and endured serious hell while there. I was framed for having bulimia (I have never been bulimic) and forced into an eating disorder program, made to eat food like an animal in front of others in attempts to "not listen to my eating disorder", I was berated. The place is run by a sociopathic woman. I was pressured to give false admissions of issues I never had, with threat of being kept longer. I had no contact with my family or the outside world. Once I was finally able to contact my parents I told them they needed to come get me - that I was in trouble and being heavily medicated and with people I did NOT trust. Thankfully my mother and father listened to their gut and got on a plane to come get me. The woman running it warned them it was a big mistake and that I would relapse -- I have never been an alcoholic or drug addict. I was there for anxiety, depression and PTSD. If my parents hadn't gotten me I am not sure where my life would have ended up. This place is bad. I mean truly bad. Their goal was "breaking us down" to "build us back up" which really means it is de-humanizing and terrifying. It is built on lies and abuse. IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, DO NOT SEND THEM HERE!!! FIND SOMEWHERE THAT CAN REALLY HELP THEM!! read more

I had the unfortunate opportunity to be referred to this facility by my therapist for what I understood to be intensive trauma therapy. I agreed to 45 days (and was accepted for that time period) but after being there a week they informed me and my family that I would have to stay at least 90 days. The location is on the beach in Balboa but the accommodations are not reflective of what is advertised on their website. The group therapy room is inside a dingy, dark, & windowless garage. The shared "living" and "sleeping" areas are not at all what I would expect for $30k per month (with no insurance). I felt demeaned and diminished while I was there, counting the days until I could reach the 90-day conclusion of the living hell I endured. They forced me into an eating disorder program that I never had the intention of participating in and forced me to participate in the AA program and attend several meetings each day - when I thought I was there to get treatment for traumatic childhood trauma. A few weeks before I reached 90 days the Program Director advised my husband that I would need to remain there for an extended period of time for sober living and PHP (to ensure that they were able to continue collecting their $30k per month for as long as they possibly could). That was the point at which I left (against medical advice) and my family took to heart the recommendation from the program director made to them that they should not pick me up and leave me homeless on the street with no phone or wallet (credit cards/money). When I finally made it home (on my own accord) my relationship with my husband, sister, and children was in tatters. My relationship with my therapist is over and I have nightmares about this experience every single night. If I had ANY recourse against this facility other than posting this review I would take it. I ABSOLUTELY 100% would not recommend Ocean Recovery to anyone and I regret ever having gone there, it was the worst mistake of my life. read more

As we approach the one year anniversary of sobriety for a loved one, I can honestly say with out the staff & program at Oceans this day would not be possible. Our loved one has been through multiple treatment programs but Oceans was different, being able to balance the support needed to face another day with out substances along with the chilling reality of what the tyranny of addiction had caused family & friends. They have been in contact with our family on our loved one's progress in the program & have been awesome working through our insurance plan to maximize benefits. I know when the time is right they will be there to help our loved one find the right setting to continue living successful as the lessons at Oceans are far reaching with all the skills necessary. I encourage you to recommend this program if you know of someone struggling with a substance problem and/or eating disorder. It will give you hope & promise that a new day has arrived. read more

If you care about professionalism and a place that is willing to save your life DO NOT come here. Staff are two faced, liars, TONS of false promises, very misleading, false advertising. Wish I could get my money back. NO TRANSPARENCY. They told me and my parents over the phone many times that this place was a sober living environment not a treatment program that I had to do for 90 days prior to transitioning to an SLE. Some of the staff like Darrell don't care about you or your recovery they only care about getting paid and doing their job. I remember this one time Darrell complain to us and yelled at us because he had to pick a meeting for us to go to when we had given him suggestions in the past but he just didn't like the ones that we suggested and got mad at us because he felt that he was doing all the work even though we tried to help. Which I think is funny considering the fact that it's his job to find meetings not ours. Darrells just one example of how oceans recovery as a whole treats patients making them feel less than, deceiving them and overall not cared for. For the duration of my stay until I was asked to leave because I was standing up for myself I thought continuously lied to, gas lit and overall mistreated. PLEASE do more research. There are way better places out there that DO care about your well being. read more

If you have no other choice but to enter a 90-day residential therapy program in Orange County, then Ocean Recovery is a good option. Mostly due to the location and proximity to the beach. The clientele also tends to be of a higher caliber than other facilities in the area. read more
