Terrible facility. They lie and say they will keep in touch and updates about your loved one. Don't not send anyone here for treatment.

I have mixed feelings about this place. There are some things they do very well. The best shifts…read moreare Days and Swings. However Graveyard is absolutely terrible. My short stint there could have been so much better. I was there for rehab after knee replacement surgery. Graveyard made me anxious and intimidated. I was in a vulnerable place and just tried to ride it out. One final incident was enough for me to speak out. I was told from the get go that Graves had their own program and it was insinuated that I should comply. Why was I in a diaper? No idea. PT wanted me walking to the restroom. Not on graves. They insisted I pee and poop in the diaper. Humiliating. Nope! Not going to happen. I had to wait until Dayshift for someone to guide me to the bathroom. I was awoken in the early AM, still graveyard, a couple of times by someone kicking my bed. The jolt made my heart race. I have a heart condition and it wasn't a good approach. The nursing on nights is the complete opposite of days and swings. Let's just say I'm surprised this one nurse still has a job. The nurse broke protocol and policy. The nurse tried to tell me I was crazy regarding a specialty medicine I've been taking. The nurse left this medication in a cup and didn't tell me or watch me take it. There is so much more with this situation that was wrong and just too long to go into. I finally reported to several people all the stuff that was happening to me on graveyard. The head nurse was shocked and promised to look into it. I was leaving the next day and thankfully the nurse in question was on days off. I was actually worried about retaliation. That should never happen to anyone. Days and Swings may function well, but graveyard is terrible. I honestly cannot recommend this place because of graves!! The food at this place is terrible. I could hardly eat anything. I have food allergies and most of the time it wasn't followed. I would suggest a complete overhaul of their menu. And taste the food before you send it out. This facility isn't cheap. You should get a decent meal. I don't know how you mess up scrambled eggs but they succeeded. The care I received is mixed. Dayshift was the best, Swings was next, with the exception of two or three really great employees on swings. They know who they are. Graves is in the negatives. It may not be fair to lump everyone together but the negative far outweighs the positive so I have too. This place has great potential. I really think they are working on many things. Fix graveyard. Fix the employees who don't seem to like their job, who run their own program that is nothing like other shifts and the patients pay for it. Stop letting them intimidate patients. I was literally afraid to sleep. I'm glad my stay was short. One of the big pluses was the PT and OT staff. They were fantastic. They are a step above in all things. I unfortunately overheard very upset family members on graveyard complaining about the medical staff. It was awful listening to their concerns and the staff pretty much ignoring them. I secretly hoped they would take it further. Some employees on graves actually looked petrified at the simplest requests. The one nurse on graves probably shouldn't be in health care. There is also a huge language barrier on all shifts This causes its own unique problems. All I can offer is to do your research. Ask questions. Believe your loved ones. I wish there were separate facilities for people just needing rehab. No one should experience what I did or the other problems I just happened to overhear. ***The facility is very clean and smells really good***

My family had a very disappointing experience with Pelican Ridge Post Acute…read more Don't let the name or location lead you to expect a luxury facility. In our experience, the building felt dated, and communication with staff was often difficult. Reaching the right person for updates was frustrating and added stress during an already challenging time. My mother was admitted with the goal of rebuilding her strength and regaining her ability to walk. She was motivated and willing to do the work. After more than three weeks at the facility, including an extended stay, she left in significantly worse condition than our family had hoped. Within two days of discharge, she required emergency medical care. From our perspective, she appeared dehydrated, undernourished, and far weaker than when she arrived. While every patient's situation is different, our family believes the care she received did not help her achieve the rehabilitation goals that brought her there. Sadly, she never fully recovered and later passed away. This was our experience, and I encourage families researching post-acute care options to ask detailed questions, visit facilities in person, and carefully consider all available choices before making a decision

The admissions person I spoke with over the phone said I would have "chef made meals". I was dropped off at a Vons with a $75 gift card to buy groceries for the week. As someone with a dual diagnosis, this was incredibly misleading and resulted in me not eating for 24 hours. The same admissions person said "the home i would be in would have shared rooms, but plenty of bathrooms". I arrived to the house which had 1 bathroom shared among 7 women. Review for AKUA Mind, Body, and Soul - Newport Beach…read more I am writing this review to warn other families about the extremely unprofessional and dangerous way my son was treated by AKUA Mind, Body, and Soul. My son was scheduled to be admitted to this facility. I informed AKUA ahead of time that he was heavily intoxicated. Despite this, they arranged for him to be picked up by Uber and transported to their facility. I personally spoke with the admissions/front desk staff, who reassured me that this was something they were trained for and that everything would be fine. I was later called and told that he had arrived and was admitted. Approximately 4-5 hours later, close to midnight, I received a call from my son. He was confused, disoriented, aggressive, and did not know where he was. He told me he was somewhere in Newport Beach near a hospital. I immediately contacted the hospital. The head nurse informed me they had found my son asleep in the hospital parking lot, without identification, with no information about why he was there, and no report from any facility. They had no idea who he was or how he got there. What I later learned is that AKUA decided his blood alcohol level was too high to accept him. However: * No one called me to inform me of this decision * There was no professional medical handoff * No one from AKUA escorted him inside the emergency room * The hospital was not notified why a confused, intoxicated person was left in their parking lot He was effectively dumped outside, in an unfamiliar area, in a medical emergency state, without identification. To make matters worse, I later spoke with a supervisor at AKUA who confirmed that they had my son's wallet, containing all of his vital information. I asked for it to be shipped to me. I have called multiple times since then. No one has returned my calls, no wallet has been sent, and no one has told me what other belongings they are holding. This is not just poor communication -- this is a serious safety failure. When a facility accepts someone, even briefly, they have a responsibility to ensure that person is left in a safe, supervised environment, especially when alcohol intoxication is involved and death is a real risk. I am disgusted by how my son was treated and by the complete lack of accountability afterward. I cannot believe this occurred at a facility that presents itself as professional and reputable. Families trust rehab centers with their loved ones' lives. AKUA failed that trust completely.

I'm a Treehouse alumni, and I'm giving this place four out of five stars…read more Not because it fell short, but because I've never been to treatment before. So I don't have comparisons. And because a five-star review would feel curated for performance instead of written in truth. The truth is... Treehouse is an experience I will never forget. It is also not for everyone. I didn't come to Treehouse looking for recovery. I came because I was running out of time. By the time I arrived, the damage was already real. My body was failing. My mind was loud. My spirit was thin. I wasn't carrying hope, I was carrying consequences. Medical. Relational. Moral. I didn't believe I deserved another chance. I wasn't even sure I could survive one. Treehouse didn't ask me to believe. They asked me to stay. The early days weren't inspiring. They were brutal. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I collapsed. I shook. I hallucinated. Every morning felt like a resurrection. Every night felt like a funeral. And people I didn't know yet showed up anyway, quietly, practically, without speeches or slogans. This place doesn't perform care. It practices it. Sobriety here isn't treated like the finish line. It's the entry fee. The work is honesty. On paper, out loud, and in how you respond when you're exposed. Language you once hid behind doesn't survive here. I came in believing survival was enough. I learned here that responsibility is the goal. Brotherhood isn't sentimental. It's earned. Men who will call you out without casting you out. Men who don't rescue you, but don't let you disappear either. Somewhere in that pressure, I stopped hiding. I started standing. My body came back before my confidence did. One breath. One step. One honest effort when quitting would've been easier. Discipline replaced chaos. The lies I told myself didn't survive consistency. The body doesn't lie. It also doesn't rebuild without truth. Treehouse didn't erase my past. They taught me how to carry it without letting it poison what comes next. I don't live perfectly now. I live aligned. I know my values. I know my patterns. I know what steadies me and what costs me. I show up differently. To work, my body, other people, and myself. If you're looking for comfort, this may not be the place. If you're looking for truth, structure, and a program that will ask more of you than you think you can give, and stay with you while you give it, this place matters. I know, because I applied the work.
