I wish I could post a review about the food but quite frankly I don't think I'll ever eat here. I actually live across the street and it would be nice if we had a place to go in the neighborhood as we're kind of in a restaurant wasteland. Tonight was the third time we tried to get in to dine. This place is always busy, but as soon as I walked in the door tonight, the music was so loud. I couldn't even talk to the person at the host stand. The last two times we tried to go It was also very loud inside. There is some outdoor seating, but nothing was available any of the times I've gone. I'm reading through some of the reviews and quite a few people mentioned that the vibe was very chill. I'm not sure if those people went as soon as the doors opened but none of the times I ever went. Food and Server with nose rings were phenomenal, however, management needs a better handle on the guests and atmosphere during football hours. Bar guests became wildly obnoxious, bartender began taking shots with patrons, and other guests that were not dining for football were not respected at all. read more

Unfortunately, our overall visit to Ocean Shack was unpleasant. Three stars because the fried seafood was flavorful and perfectly cooked, but the chicken was tough and dry. We also had an issue with the menu not aligning with what we received. The menu states that baskets come with fries AND broccoli, but we only received fries. When we asked our server Annie about it, she was adamant that it came with one OR the other, so we ordered extra sides of supplementary broccoli. When bringing our food to the table, the runner said that our baskets were supposed to come with broccoli. Eventually, we ended the night with being charged for our sides of broccoli that were supposed to be included with our baskets. Ocean Shack needs to make sure that their servers and printed menus accurately describe what is included with each meal. read more

Plastic Shack. A seafood themed menu that serves on styrofoam plates, plastic forks, plastic bibs, plastic gloves, and serves seafood boils in plastic bags. It's a plastic waste machine. Please give me a real plate, real silverware, and proper tools for eating crab. GO ZERO PLASTIC and wash dishes. The boil was great tasting. Steamed brócoli was amazing. I've ordered here twice. First time got tenders, which wasn't smart because it's a seafood place, but the chicken was extremely fatty and chewy. Not really edible. I tried to give them a second chance by ordering salmon. Salmon was extremely tiny and dry with no flavor. Had to add lemon juice to make it taste better. Also, my mashed potatoes were still in its frozen container. I had to call the restaurant and ask them if I am supposed to microwave it or if they were, and they said they were supposed to but for me to microwave it for 90 seconds. So that was weird that I was given frozen food and had to heat it up myself. They say they have the best authentic seafood in Arlington, but I don't believe I've had worse seafood before. It's just not good seafood for the price it's listed at. Maybe they have decent crabs or lobsters, but I don't think it's worth spending that money when there are better restaurant chains that actually taste good. I also had to go and grab my own bag of food because everyone working was just walking around me. So I had to reach over and grab it myself. read more

I wasn't a frequent visitor to Thirsty Bernie's. So, I was glad when a new place filled the space--offering more fish and less grease. Last week, my wife enjoyed the steamed seafood bake with snow crab claws, shrimp, corn on the cob, and potatoes. Everything was delicious--particularly the vegetables. Our only disappointment was that we'd asked for some scallops to be added but they weren't. When they finally came they were perfectly steamed but were completely devoid of flavor. We wondered if they'd had to defrost the meat quickly and had just run hot water over them, washing away the flavors of the ocean. I hope they add a few more unusual beers to the menu. They have solid beers but it's fun to have variety. read more

Server was nice, little black bugs and flies kept pestering us. The food comes on a tray, you don't get your seafood boil in a bag and everyone at your table pick from the tray. The seasoning falls to the bottom of the tray, seasoning is water because they didn't drain the seafood before placing on the tray. We asked for extra seasoning in a bowl. Ok. Food was ok but this TERRIBLE waitress named Michelle was serving our food and never checked on us. She was very passive aggressive and made us feel very unwelcome. Love this place for their jumbo, fatty crawfish boils! The build your own boil comes with corn and potatoes per pound of seafood. We always order the crawfish boil ($13.99/lb), extra spicy, and house seasoning. Haven't tried any of the other food. A great place to go if you're having a crawfish craving and/or looking for a chill place to get drinks and watch sports. The food was really good. Too bad the service was really bad. I couldn't enjoy our food because of it. Our server barely came over. And when he did. He had an attitude like he hated being there. At least that's what we perceive. We recommend the crab bites. Don't get the clam chowder. Skip this place. We went today. We ordered fried calamari, chicken wings (out of the sauce we wanted) and one drink each. The calamari was served to us with no plates or utensils. It was beyond over cooked - absolutely disgusting. Let the waiter know when he brought out chicken wings. Finally got plates and utensils. I want new restaurants to succeed, but Ocean Shack needs some work. The decor of ocean meets sports bar is clever. Most of the menu is fried foods. I've read their non-fried 'seafood boils' are good, but we tried the fried oysters and catfish sandwich. The kitchen needs to make major improvements in their frying. The oysters were tasty and briny, but over battered and greasy. The onion rings are obviously out of a freezer bag and way over fried. The catfish was okay but the fries with it were unimpressive. I hope the chef can improve the menu and the cooking. read more

My name is Meredith and my wife and I dined in the Ocean Shack after hearing much hype about it on social media. Let me be the first to tell you that they delivered by all means. This has been one of the best restaurant experiences my wife and I I've ever had. The ambiance was chill and made it seem like we were at the beach, plus the tropical shirts the staff wears. Rickey our waiter greeted us with a friendly smile, professionalism and extremely prompt amazing service! The Cajun wings, fried shrimp basket, Hawaiian shrimp entre, catfish and crab bites was outstanding, super fresh and mouthwatering. His dedication to excellent customer service and professionalism is second to none and reflects great credit upon himself and the Ocean Shack brand. We will continue to come here to add to this amazing culinary experience we received. My overall rating undoubtedly is 5 out of 5 stars without hesitating. Rickey deserves a big raise and the biggest recognition/honorable mention for his amazing friendly service, attentiveness and professionalism. Food was decent. Caesar salad was average. The crab boil was good. It just doesn't have the same cozy feel of the old Thirsty Bernie's. The decor was a disappointment, but perhaps they are trying to bring in revenue before adding to the interior. The interior felt cold and vacuous. There aren't as many tables or tvs, or at least that's how it seems, so it feels somewhat empty (despite people being there for games) and less personal. To get that cozy beach vibe it appears they are trying to achieve, they should add plants (I would add a lot of them), finish putting netting on the rest of the ceiling, have fun beach items hanging from the ceiling nets, and extend the straw on the walls that they kept bare, and they need to do something to hide the ugly bare entrance to the back room. Perhaps hanging shell string curtains that they can easily walk through that would hide the bare view of their back workroom. My husband said they should add a giant shark head with its mouth open over the entrance to the bathroom with a fish hanging in front of his mouth, tied from the ceiling net. To convince me to be a regular, they need to figure out how to bring some warmth and coziness to the place. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. I'd like to see it become a neighborhood favorite, but it's a step backwards from what was there before. read more
