Located across the street from the Sheraton I was staying at, I was pretty satisfied with the food and service at Hank's. The Butterflied trout was their special and this was a great dish at $30. One of the best trout dishes I've had. Wish they had a location in Maryland! Had couple beers on draft. Their cocktail menu looked good. Will have to try it next time I am in the area.

I stopped by Hank's Oyster Bar for lunch on my trip back home and overall it was an enjoyable experience. Our waiter was super attentive, always in good spirits, and checked on us frequently throughout the meal. We started with a half dozen oysters on the half shell. They missed a few items from our appetizer order at first, but everything was sorted out pretty quickly. The oysters were solid but still fresh and enjoyable. We both ordered the fish and chips, and honestly not bad. The fish was seasoned really well without being overly salty, the fries were solid too, and overall it made for a satisfying lunch. I also tried the mango ginger sparkler, which was refreshing too. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a solid lunch option. Parking can be a little tricky with the construction nearby, but there's underground parking at the Sheraton across the street if needed.

Disappointed to report that both food & service were just OK & overpriced for what you get. Hubby & I dined in during their restaurant week, which was $55 PP for 3 courses. We both started with 1/2 dozen oysters. Small but fresh & tasty. For my main, I got the crab cake dinner, which is a $9 upcharge. Also, subbed onion rings for fries, which they upcharged $3. They literally just gave 3 onion rings & the batter was too thick, not crispy, & bland. The crab cakes were good & meaty, but very small. I was expecting more for my $67 meal. My husband ordered the catch of the day, which was seared salmon. It was alright. Good cook on the salmon, but the sauce was bland & broccolini were incredibly chewy. Mash potatoes were delicious, though. Key lime pie was good. Chocolate mousse left much to be desired. Service was a bit slow. The prices are high & that's okay, but the product should reflect that. Otherwise, it has a cozy & cute casual vibe & I loved all the kids I saw dining with their families. Likely won't be back as there are better seafood restaurants in the area with prices that make more sense.

We had a great time at Hank's Oyster Bar and would definitely come back. We grabbed seats at the rooftop bar to watch the game, and it was such a fun, lively atmosphere. The bartenders were attentive, friendly and the drinks were delicious and generous with the liquor. For appetizers, we ordered the popcorn shrimp and fried calamari. Both were perfectly crispy without being greasy, and I appreciated that they were mostly seafood rather than a plate full of filler. For our entrée, we shared the steak frites. While it was cooked well and tasted good, I didn't feel it justified the price. It was a solid dish, but not particularly memorable compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, the service and atmosphere really stood out, making for an enjoyable evening. Next time, we'll definitely be back to try the oysters, which are the real star of the menu.

Came here on a Friday with some friends for drinks and had an amazing time! The rooftop seating was a standout--great atmosphere and perfect for hanging out. The burger was incredible--perfectly cooked, well-balanced, and seriously satisfying. I paired it with a Narragansett, one of my favorites, and it did not disappoint. The service was top-notch, and the overall vibe was fun, lively, and easy to enjoy. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back!

Little bucket o shrimp. No complaints, well fried, decently plump shrimp.

Went out here with some friends while I was in the area to visit, and it was a pretty good meal, certainly a solid Old Town vibe. It was mega hot out in July as you would expect, and we weren't aware our reservation was going to seat us on the rooftop, but thankfully the fans were blowing hard and it was all shaded. The menu hits you with some unique options for seafood, as well as some classics. The specials were really interesting, and a couple people at the table decided to go for them. I actually decided to order two appetizers as my meal. One was basically a small basket of shrimp with a tasty remoulade, and the other a single crab cake served with slaw. Before we get to the meal, let me just say my North Carolina heart was pretty shook, maybe offended, that hushpuppies were ten bucks and you get 5 of them. Back home, your average fish joint gives them either free with purchase, or would charge you a couple bucks for a giant basket of them. Granted, those are simple, and these are "elevated" but at the end of the day, the taste just flat out did not meet the cost. I'd have felt better at 5 for 5, and I think there is still profit there... it's corn meal y'all. Anyhow, that out of the way. The shrimp in my basket were plump, well fried, and the spiced remoulade it came with was very tasty. I could have been happy with two of those anytime. But... I am glad I ordered a crab cake as my second item, because that was equally tasty with plenty of actual crab meat comprising the patty. The slaw was a welcome refreshing switch up to both items. In combination, I felt this was a great dinner choice. All in all, pretty satisfied. Would come back here if the crew wanted to make a thing of it again, perhaps at a cooler time of year.

If you're looking for fresh oysters, this is the place to be. I love the feel of the restaurant when walking in, nice crisp clean feel and you know you're going to get some good seafood. There is a good selection of available oysters of the day, at least 6 on the day we were there. The fresh oysters and fresh clams on a half shell were so good. We ordered 4 different oysters ones based on our servers recommendation of "small and sweet". The appetizers: Our party of 6 shared the deviled eggs, taste as expected. We all thought the clam chowder was good, portion was big. The oyster Rockefeller, would not order this again, felt overwhelmed with all the ingredients where it overpowered the oyster itself. Entrees: One of my friends and I decided to share and split our entrees. The lobster roll was really good, sweet and fresh with good amount of warm butter. The roll was toasted and the French fries were unexpectedly really good as well. It was my first time attempting to eat all the fries on my plate because they were so addictive. We also shared the crab cake Benedict, tasted great, no complaints with this dish. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch here. I will come back. Next time I'm In town for more fresh oysters. I would also like to try some of the PO boys.

Great food and service! The butterflied trout was delicious and definitely one of the best trout dishes I've had. I also enjoyed the beers on draft. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area!

Stopped by on an early Tuesday afternoon, for a quick eat before an event. You can sit downstairs, on the ground level or rooftop. We took the elevator to the rooftop and sat at the bar Place was pretty, clean and comfortable We had a dozen oysters. The "salt water" was the best!!! Unisex single bathrooms, spacious

I did a Cocktail Class with friends except this was with Zero Proof Alcohol. I had a great time doing this class with friends. However, I thought we were going to make a mocktail and instead we made something else. Small bites were included in the class cost: fried pickles & meatball + bread. I ended up ordering raw oysters & their fried shrimp & calamari-- all were delicious. Our instructor and lead bartender was excellent. The class was held upstairs of this restaurant location. I think it's a great event for those wanting to do something with friends that doesn't involve alcohol.

Ordered via UE and Carlos was wonderful! I called and spoke with Josh, I think, and requested extra tarter and remoulade sauces, gold fish crackers and chocolate and he made sure they were included in my delivery order. Food arrived hot. Shrimp and calamari never disappoint and I adore their onion rings. The sandwich came with a little container of coleslaw and I it was tasty. My only gripe is HOB says the sandwich comes with catfish but mine came with cod. I am not a fan or cod and it makes me ill. I immediately called the restaurant and was told they would update their website. Josh did say he would contact UE and see if they would issue a refund. UPDATE: UE did issue me a refund for the sandwich and I received a message from HOB management regarding the issue. I appreciate HOB management for reading customer reviews, acknowledging concerns and acting on them. KUDOS!

Everything here is absolutely delicious. The staff was so friendly and the service was helpful and prompt. The oysters tasted so fresh and clean. The crab cake didn't have a lot of filler so it was just tasty chunks of crab meat. Lobster roll was also fantastic. I really really enjoyed the crab dip. It was perfectly creamy and cheesy. An employee told us to dip our old bay fries into the dip and oh boy was that a tasty combo. The rooftop is such a nice place to sit on a cool summer evening.

For the area, this is a very good place and the oysters were actually quite good here better than other places I've been to like Guinness or some other restaurants in Annapolis. Along with the two dozen oysters that we had, we also had the shrimp Poboy and seared Dorado. Both were amazing probably the best po boythat I've had and the fish was cooked perfectly. The poor boy was super buttered. I had Texas toast to accompany the fried shrimp and the shrimp was perfectly cooked not chewy at all. There's a good amount of mayo and sauce along with the sandwich which made everything very flavorful and it was lighting up with the coleslaw that I combined on the top. Perfect light crisp from the shrimp and bread. I like the oysters they're great for Maryland; little bit of brine and they tasted fresh. I liked the marinara sauce that came with it. We ordered a second dozen since the first batch was quite good. I've tried better ones on the West Coast, but for the East Coast these were quite good. If you don't taste much, you should definitely chew a lot more on the oysters and the flavor will start to come out. The Dorado was cooked perfectly and the sauce of it was amazing. I think it was some sort of basil, oil, and other sauce combined, but regardless it tasted so good. It reminded me of a fish dish that I got back in Washington state. The drinks were good but quite strong. I had the not your nana's banana, but I was not a fan since it was quite strong. We got the watermelon punch which was great. Wish we had gotten two of those. The atmosphere is good although quite busy we came on Valentine's Day so they're a lot of couples and most of the tables were filled, but we were still able to sit down on a small table next to the door a little bit cold when the door is open, but it's understandable since the restaurant is is making the most out of the space we still enjoyed our dinner. Service was OK. Our waiter was nice, but it sort of seemed like he was putting a fake smile on. I get it though we're probably his 100,000th customer that he's seen. Regardless, we had a good experience and I'll definitely will be back here.

Ask the Community - Hank's Oyster Bar, Old Town

Is there parking nearby? Any garages or lots?

Yes, underground parking at the Sheraton across the street.

Is there a bottomless mimosa option?

My understanding is that the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) does not allow unlimited drinks for a set price, so no restaurant in Virginia (legally) offers bottomless mimosas.

When is happy hour? Specifically when are the oysters at happy hour price?

10-12 every night. I think also till close. Not all oysters are happy hour priced. Only a handful.

This trip brought us to The Fish Market, as we have tried several other places over the decades. The place is much larger than it looks and has indoor, outdoor, upstairs, and bar area seating. We were seated immediately, and our server was the sweetest lady but not really conversational when we asked questions about the area or the meal. She had no other tables but might not be her personality, which is fine. Knowing we wanted ice cream, we declined drinks, but the bar and its menu were pretty extensive. When we ordered, we landed on the fresh fish tacos and one of the best seafood linguines I've ever had. The sauce was light and didn't puddle at the bottom and was served with scallops, white fish, mussels, and shrimp. The fresh broccoli and grated Parmesan topped off an incredible choice of pasta! At the end of the day, we will continue to try other places in Old Town, but as long as they have that pasta dish, The Fish Market will always be in the running for a return trip!

It's a nice looking restaurant though it has a bit of an old, historic feel to it. The restrooms are upstairs and very small. One stall in the ladies' room didn't have any purse hooks which was a tad annoying (they were broken). Ordered the crab cakes, which came with a heaping serving of french fries. Every entree also came with either champagne or strawberries and cream. The cream was thick and delicious. The crab cakes were dry, unfortunately. Maybe it's partly because there was no filler, which is a good thing, but I wished they were more moist. And the fries had a crispy batter, which are not my favorite. Lastly, I wished the meal came with a vegetable of some sort. And I didn't see any sides to order from, and no veggies for apps. The meal was a bit disappointing, especially for the price point (which is different on the menu than what's on their website). My party was seated by the window but the internet still didn't work well. Had to request the wifi password. I didn't realize I had been here once before, for Mother's Day. But after this meal, I don't think I need to return.

A Promising First Impression That Fell Short at the Table…read more Upon walking in, the restaurant immediately makes a pleasant first impression. The ambiance is inviting, and there was a subtle, nostalgic touch with soft '80s music playing throughout the space something I genuinely enjoyed. The restaurant smelled fantastic... although, in fairness, that may have been me! The host was polite, and my waiter, Sid, was courteous as well. Unfortunately, the attention to detail began to slip almost immediately. The table I was seated at was visibly dirty and appeared as though it had not been properly wiped down before a fresh setting of plates was placed on it. To their credit, when I pointed it out, the table was cleaned with a wet wipe. I ordered a Plain burger with very specific: no cheese, no sauce of any kind, no mayonnaise, and no condiments just raw onion, tomato, lettuce and bacon. I also ordered an espresso martini. Sid did not write the order down, which I initially took as a sign of confidence and experience. Unfortunately, that confidence did not translate into accuracy. Burger #1 arrived, and despite my very specific request for raw onions, I was given sautéed onions on the side. There was also no tomato, and the burger arrived with a sauce I had explicitly said I did not want. I sent it back. What happened next was particularly disappointing. Instead of simply remaking the burger, Sid asked whether the kitchen could just scrape the sauce off. Absolutely not. When a diner specifically requests no sauce, scraping it off is not really the solution especially when the entire reason for the request is to avoid tasting it. I asked that the burger be remade completely because I did not want any trace of the sauce left behind. To make matters worse, the fries accompanying the first burger were lukewarm. Then came Burger #2 and somehow, this one arrived with cheese. Cheese. The one ingredient I had specifically said I did not want. At that point, the issue was no longer about a simple kitchen mistake. It was about the dining experience and whether the order was actually being heard. Having to send a meal back multiple times because the most basic modifications weren't followed is incredibly frustrating, particularly in a restaurant positioning itself as a higher-end dining establishment. Ryan ultimately took my final order correctly with pen and paper might I add which was Great, and the chef personally brought out the replacement burger#3. That final burger was prepared according to my specifications, which I appreciated. But by then, the experience had already taken a hit. And that's the frustrating part: if I'm going to pay a premium for a high-end burger in a high-end setting, I expect the burger to come out correctly the first time. The luxury isn't just the atmosphere or the price point; it's supposed to be the attention to detail. After all of that, I couldn't help but think: I could have gone to Five Guys, spent about $20, and saved myself all of this trouble. when the execution of such a straightforward order becomes this complicated, the experience doesn't quite live up to the setting or the price.

Having arrived in town for a late lunch but to early for dinner I decided on a wedge salad with blackened shrimp. Presentation was great and even better were the Crispy lardons and the blackened shrimp. The waiter asked if I wanted to add an additional shrimp to the order, which I agreed to. The shrimp cocktail was nothing short of a rip off, $20 for 4 medium sized shrimp that weren't properly cleaned and not fully chilled; absolutely ridiculous. The oysters were very nice, fresh and only a bit briny, would order those again. For dinner, we ordered the salmon and the sea bass. The fish were both cooked perfectly. Both the sauteed spinach served with the salmon and the black rice served with the sea bass were beyond salty -- actually inedible. Service throughout the meal was fine but we found ourselves abandonded at the end. The server for our table, and those around us was gone for a long period and even the tables around us noticed his absence. We skipped desert. The check, including 1 glass of wine, and 1 coke, came to $140. I'm sorry, this wasn't even close to worth that much money. Perhaps the Wharf was just having an off night, but my impression is that this is a tired restaurant, trading mostly on its excellent location, that has given up on the concept of repeat business.

I don't eat beef or pork, but after watching a review from Peaks100, I saw that the manager also recommended the seafood along with the steaks. My wife eats steak, so I took her there for that, and I planned to order seafood. Spoiler alert: my wife enjoyed her steak. Now that I got that out of the way, let me continue. https://youtu.be/5uPuX7Fk_cE?si=H7NI2vI_uMWAeREq Appetizer Octopus Ceviche -- $18 I told our server that I didn't want any pork on it. She seemed surprised and told me it didn't come with pork. I had already looked up "pancetta crumble" and knew pancetta was pork, so I showed her the menu. She then said she knew what pancetta was and would make sure there was no pork on my plate. The ceviche itself didn't have much flavor. I didn't really enjoy it, but it wasn't bad enough for me to complain or send it back. Dinner Housemade "Parkerhouse" Rolls -- $8 These came out fresh and hot with butter. They were good. No complaints. Chef's Fresh Catch -- $50 The fresh catch was grouper. The fish had some salt on it and a nice char, but the heavy cream-based sauce on the plate didn't have much flavor. Again, I didn't really enjoy it, but not enough to complain or return the dish. Jumbo Lump Crab Oscar -- $28 Wow, this was not good at all. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't. It was tough and rubbery (see pic), almost like it had been left under the broiler too long. I took it home with me, but I honestly will probably end up throwing it away. Sides Crispy Brussels Sprouts -- $13 These were good, but somewhat oily. Yukon Gold Potato Purée -- $12 They were okay. Nothing to write home about. Dessert Coconut Cream Bread Pudding -- $14 It was just okay. The coconut flakes was too much, in my opinion, and eventually became overwhelming. It didn't feel very balanced. Overall, I felt the service could have been better, and most of the food needed more flavor, especially at this price point. Nothing was so terrible that I felt the need to ask for a manager, but I also didn't enjoy most of what I ordered. I ordered it, so I paid for it and kept it moving. Also, a 25% gratuity was already added to the bill. Maybe that is why the service was lacking, because they already knew they were going to get 25% "allegedly". Honestly, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many other good places in the DMV where you can have better food and a better overall experience for the same price or less.

I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. Todd and Alison made our experience at The Oaks unforgettable, along with the incredible food. Thank you both--we hope to see you again soon! --SoCal Visitors
