Visited Little Birdie for dinner. Reservations are not required but the place filled up very quickly. The seating space is kind of tight. Once the space filled up it felt hard to have a conversation. They also have a bar top area where you can sit. We tried the cold noodle salad, the watermelon panzanella salad as well as the tendy tower. Our waitress said that things would come out as they are ready but everything came out at the same time. The Tendie tower comes with 6 differently dipping sauces. The tenders were a pretty decent size. There was not really a crispy texture to the tenders but they were still good. The side winder fries were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The salads were pretty tasty. I liked the watermelon panzanella one the best. The cold noodle salad needed something that I still can't seem to figure out. I recently checked out Little Birdies during Restaurant Week, and it was such a cute, cozy spot! It's definitely more of a casual, intimate dining experience, and because the restaurant is on the smaller side, I'd highly recommend making reservations. Before I even get to the food, I have to shout out Alexus! She wasn't actually our assigned server, but she went out of her way to check on us throughout the evening and really enhanced our dining experience. Our assigned server seemed a little overwhelmed and wasn't very attentive, so Alexus stepping in made a huge difference. Thank you for making sure our first visit still came with great service! Now, the food--10/10! The menu is small but impactful, with Spanish-fusion dishes that absolutely deliver. The Watermelon Panzanella and Honey Cornbread were standout starters. Our entrées were equally delicious and full of flavor. Overall, Little Birdies was a great Restaurant Week find. We had such an enjoyable visit here! The restaurant is new so I was happy to snag a reservation. The restaurant is small so I would absolutely suggest a reservation, but they also take walk ins. The staff was super friendly. Shout out to our server Indira who was the best! She did such a great job with the service and recommendations. I would absolutely recommend the cornbread. We had such a great experience at Little Birdie! It's such a charming addition to Del Ray and already feels like one of those neighborhood spots you'll want to keep coming back to. The outdoor patio is on the smaller side, but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our group. They found a way to seat my husband and me with another couple while also giving our kids their own table, which made the evening so much more enjoyable. The wine list was excellent, and every dish we tried was delicious. I had the poke bowl, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and my husband ordered the duck special, which was outstanding. Everyone at the table loved their meals. Great food, great service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I got reservations a few weeks back as I heard raving reviews about a new brunch spot in Del Ray. Unfortunately, I can't say I was blown away. The best way to describe this restaurant was odd flavor profile. They don't serve hot coffee, only cold brew which was lack luster. The birds nest pork lacked flavor, I was expected a lot from slow braised pork. The Eggs benny had a thick cut tomato which was almost the entirety of the meal. We also ordered the chicken and johnnycakes. This is where the weird flavor profile comes in, the sauce and cakes were spiced with what appeared to be cumin so it was very similar to chili or tacos. The service was great and the restaurant is a cute vibe with outdoor seating. But, I can't recommend and won't be back. The food just didn't make the mark for me. read more

Tried this new restaurant after seeing on instagram feed. Cute little place that had perfect vide for Del Ray, Alexandria old town. The ambience is great for both casual dates and family. The kitchen is a bit bright that distract a bit from the decor. Hope the owner will figure something out to harmonize the two with small tweaks. Service is good, no problem. Definitely high quality food - but left a tiny bit to be desired overall. He had the birdies classic "be brave and kick it up to make it hot and chili dipped." It did not require bravery and was not actually that hot. It had a nice kick, but again, not a kick that required bravery. The milk bun tasted great but was maybe not the best choice for a sauced sandwich and kind of fell apart. Maybe some toasting or a different bun altogether would have helped. I had the tendie appetizer, which was enough food for a meal for me. All of the food was served piping hot and the tenders were no exception. They had a great batter, but it struggled to cling to the tenders probably because they were served so hot. You could tell the chicken was clearly very high quality, it had a melt in your mouth quality. The fries could have been slightly more done but were seasoned well. The watermelon panzanella salad was truly to die for - I have never had anything like it and will probably dream about this salad. The dips totally stole the show - the biddie sauce was great and the nori ranch was AMAZING. The drinks were also very interesting and good, I enjoyed the red hen and the sparrow. The birdies old fashioned sounded like it was going to be better than it was, but it was still pretty solid. Even the Cook came out and spoke to me. Our waiter. Eddie was phenomenal very personable and just all around very nice guy if he felt like family the food was also spectacular. Service was great, it's a pretty small venue but decorated well, now for the food...I had the Birdie Classic with a side salad. The salad had excellent flavor and presentation but was heavy on the dressing; not a big fan soaked lettuce but I'd get it again with light dressing because the flavors were there. As for the sandwich, it also had nice flavors. The chicken was over cooked though and bordering dried out. I'd also prefer it spicier. Let's just place just opened up a couple of weeks ago and I was very fortunate to get in with my wife because they're already booked up in the mornings days prior. To start the staff is all on their a game, not too overbearing but just attentive enough. The gentleman at the front counter is a very engaging host. Our food was delivered hot and quick. The fried chicken sandwich was on point as well. The flavors of the chicken were outstanding, the crust was absolutely perfect, and when the sandwich came out, the bun was not so soggy which can happen with coleslaw. Let's start with the good: cute place, clean, good service. The bad: food is weird. Our group are foodies who love to try new places/food and we're left feeling like we wish we'd have gone somewhere else. Not in a twist on a classic but a this is no good kind of way. I got the Johnny cakes and chicken with honey dust. Traditional Johnny cakes (cornbread basically) but the syrup was terrible. I think they were going for a sweet savory pairing but it doesn't work. The syrup tasted like honey or syrup, heavy on the butter with cumin or chili powder. Very savory with taco/chili undertones. The chicken was cooked perfectly but again the seasoning was off. We also ordered the bird nest. The potatoes were thick and not crispy and the pork had no flavor. Finally the eggs Benedict was mostly thick roasted tomato, small amount of bacon, and the balance was off. $70 bill which is very reasonable for brunch if the food is good, it was not. Went to the opening day of Little Birdie and the food and service was fantastic. While the space is small, the ambiance and decor make up for it. Would highly recommend the corn bread, very buttery and you get three butters (blueberry was my favorite). Got the Tendie tower to split as an entree and it was plenty of food. Very cute new restaurant. Limited seating so I suggest making a reservation. We came for lunch. The food was great! I did find it strange (and took off a star) for fries not being included with any of the burgers or sandwiches. They charge you $5 extra (on a $16 sandwich) if you want fries. I found that strange and was kind of a turn off. I could see if Chips were included and you could pay to upgrade to fries, But nothing comes on the side.
