A very traditional family style Italian-ish restaurant. Old dark interior a simple but comprehensive menu of pasta, beef, some chicken and seafood. My loss was that I was experiencing some stomach issues and had to settle for a plain baker and some steamed veggies but were perfect. I did taste one of the fried ravioli which suggested thoughts of pizza and rolls - interesting. Looking around the table, huge portions of pasta. Steaks wire all cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a great steak at a good price then this is the place to go in town! You can get all sorts of cuts of beef! My 12 ounce tenderloin was nice and thick and cooked precisely to my liking. And the price for it was only in the mid 30s and included a salad, soup and a bake potato. I grew up eating at Birdie's and ate there recently for the first time in 30 years. It hasn't changed . Very nice, well cooked rib steak, well priced. Minestrone soup is same good recipe. Spaghetti sauce is unique, more of a brown gravy and not a red Italian style, has nutmeg and cinnamon so very different. Once you don't expect traditional red sauce it's quite good. My wife's Caesar salad was not very good and the tiny piece of overcooked salmon was dreadful. Stick to steak. read more

Very disappointed. Been going for years and years. Never had such a bad experience. Someone took the table they promised us. Then put us next to a noisy group. Went down hill from there. Steak was overcooked and potatoes and onions were served completely burned. They were apologetic but no excuse for poor food. Never seen it like this. read more

Nostalgia for my wife and I. Used to eat here about once a month in the late 70's. It was our date night away from the kids. We usually split a steak and seafood of some sort. Great meals and great memories. We did not like the brown sauce then, and sadly, it has not gotten any better. We tried apps for dinner...shrimp cocktail, fried raviolis, and the minestrone bread bowl. The shrimp was accompanied by an old-fashioned cocktail sauce that was very good. This was a huge disappointment. We saw a FB post about steak and decided to give it a try. So sorry we did. Hubby had a sirloin that was just OK.I tried the ravioli and couldn't get past bite one. So I used to come to this place as a kid growing up on Great Falls. It always felt like a special occasion when we were there. Somethings never change. I brought my wife, stepson, and his dad here for a taste of my youth. It was just as I remembered, down to the decor, sign, and excellent service (excellent is an understatement). Even more than that, the food is still outstanding. We devoured the minestrone soup, had a fresh side salad, and then the the steaks and pasta came. A local guy that we met at a rest stop recommended Borrie's as a local restaurant that supports local ranchers and farmers. We ordered full tenderloins done medium rare, because it was only $5 more for that extra 4 oz AND we have a kitchen tomorrow night. We ordered the bleu cheese dressing on our salads both as our favorite dressing and on a reviewer's recommendation. We ordered the chicken broth and minestrone. The chicken broth had rotini and the minestrone was thicker than we were used to, which was lovely. The tenderloins passed our butter knife test, meaning that a really tender steak can be cut with a butter knife instead of needing a steak knife. I ordered the spaghetti as my side and my hubby ordered fries as his side. The spaghetti sauce was more like what I'd make at home ... the waitress said that many folks love it and a few hate it. The fries were thin and crispy. The mushrooms were mushrooms ... and I only asked about it, because a reviewer had panned the spaghetti and mushrooms. We finished the meal off with a large helping of tiramisu, which was tasty. The restaurant had a Pokemon Go pokestop and pokegym within easy reach of the restaurant. read more

Totally my family's favorite place for dinner, we love their homemade raviolis, spaghetti and half-and-half the minestrone is the best I've ever had. I guess there's a lot to be said for nostalgia where those who recommend Borries are concerned. I've tried it three times now, and I just don't get the appeal. The beef is fair, but the rest of the food is mediocre at best. I heard for years about the spaghetti sauce and to me it tastes like a mix of brown gravy mix and liquid cardboard mixed in with some bland marinara and ground beef. It's unappealing, and after having lived in Italy for 2 years I wouldn't call it Italian. The pasta was over cooked, the bagged and limp iceberg lettuce was swimming in dressing, and the vegetables soggy and seemingly right off the Sysco truck. There are far better meals to be had within a reasonable driving distance. The service and hospitality are on par with the best in the state even if the food is lacking the same level of quality. read more

Get back to Borries after a few years being away. The service is still good and the food is also good. The sauce on the spaghetti and ravioli is a rich dark sauce and you can actually taste the cinnamon and nutmeg. Quite a unique taste. Also tried the fried ravioli which was very good. This is a locals' favorite and the food is decent and the portions are big. Great for groups and prom night apparently as I noticed a number of teens in winter ball dresses when I came here in Dec. 2010. Ambiance is like an upscale country restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly. They offered me a taste of their unique brown spaghetti sauce. A local tried to tell me it was a family recipe from Northern Italy. Honestly, I've been to Florence and Bologna and I've never had anything like this. But hey... so you take some Northern Italy and give it an American/ local spin. That's great! The sauce was meaty and sweet. This is NOT a tangy sauce. The portions are gi-nor-mous. I had enough pasta for the next day's lunch AND dinner. The salad with cranberries, goat cheese and nuts had a ridiculous amount of the latter items compared to the greens. It was a little imbalanced since I had a good 3 or 4 tablespoons of toppings after all my greens were gone. Borrie's is a family institution that you should experience if you're in Great Falls. It may not be the prettiest or tastiest restaurant you've ever been to, but if this is where the locals come, then you should come too. read more

A terrible dining experience. McDonalds is a better choice. When we asked the waitress what our steaks would look like if ordered medium and/ or medium well, she said she didn't know and would not ask the chef. She said he didnt like to cook steaks beyond a certain doneness. Then, when she brought the steaks, neither was done properly. The waitress who took our drink order never showed up with the drinks and, when asked her about them, she never apologized. Rather, she said, "The bar is really busy." The restaurant was only about half full. Upon leaving (we used a $100 bill to pay), we asked one of the staff where to place the money because we were concerned that it would attract attention and make not make it to the till. She rudely told us to throw it on the counter (where there was a large group of people waiting to be seated) or on the table. The staff was dsimissive and rude. The meat was tough, poorly seasoned and over-priced. The salad was disappointingly blah and one of the soup options was merely chicken broth. I wouldn't let my dog eat at this restaurant. read more

Fried ravioli taste like pizza bites. The Salisbury steak sandwich is two hamburger patties stuck together with a a few onions in the middle. One side was burnt and hidden on bottom. He Salisbury sauce is brown gravy. No seasoning at all. I told we didn't like the dishes and the waitress took the Salisbury steak (hamburger) off but refused to take the ravioli off even though we didn't eat it. Waitress was cocky and rude. Seriously my favorite place in the Great Falls. I'm from GF, but live outside the state. When I come home to visit the family, I eat here. The brown spaghetti sauce is original and it reminds me of my childhood. The steak is awesome. I never appreciated how good steak is in montana until I ate a steak in Wisconsin. The negative reviews here all stem from a misconception of what Borrie's is. This is a Montana supper club, once common throughout Montana in its style and menu. Unfortunately, many of these do not exist anymore. I grew up on the food here, and love it. There is a place and time for new, innovative food, and there is a time for classics and old-school, memory-inducing food. Borrie's is the place for the latter, not the former. read more
