I called the owner prior booking about the cleanliness and safety measures of the place. The owner John called me and answer my questions. The place has 4 rooms and 3 rooms are for rental. We booked the Bonita suite, this one has an exclusive patio. Totally worth it! The owner welcomed us and he was super friendly. The place was clean, the appliances worked. The decor was lovely! The location is amazing! Right across from the beach. The town itself dont believe in masks, but thats not the owners fault. We were able to enjoy the place and the beach. read more

Let me first start by say, absolutely stunning views and the vacation home is aesthetically pleasing. But honestly that's about it.. When I booked this place, I informed them I was booking it for my wedding weekend to stay the night before and get ready with my bridesmaids. When we got there we had no idea where we were going, when I called into the front desk they sounded extremely annoyed! They told me they sent me an email, but I never received it.. Lots of outlets were out and the amenities are extremely outdated. The next night when some of my girls got back to the place, they were interrupted by this lady (who is the owner) who stormed in and demanded they take off their shoes..They were just walking around and the sound of their shoes reverberated and I guess was louder than they thought. The lady was yelled at them and told them they were being rude. Honestly, she ended up being louder than their shoes. My other friend also dropped by to pick up one of my girls' bags and he got yelled at by the same lady, for literally no reason. He was just walking up the stairs.. The next morning I received a very rude email, saying my guests were noisy and that they had to initiate refunds because of us. First off, thanks for sending me a pointless rude email to prove a point. Second, probably one of the reasons you had to give out refunds is because that lady was going around screaming at everyone! Overall, this place is gorgeous and has a nice view, but that all they got going for them. I get their a small business, but if we were being loud you don't have to come in and scream louder..isn't having fun the point of a vacation. read more

During the Lilac Fire in North San Diego County, our family (1 among the 25,000) evacuated out of Oceanside. After calling 3 other hotels, we called Oceanfront Hacienda. It was last minute, two adults and four kids in tow, we prayed that they had vacancy for us. The owner was so accommodating and sympathetic, she gave us a truly fantastic hotel room for a great price. I am so grateful that we had a place for refuge while our county raged with a Santa Ana fueled fire. The hotel itself is family owned with Spanish styling. The interiors of the hotel rooms are clearly cared for, renovated and clean. The hotel sits across from the San Clemente Pier, so you can listen to the song of crashing waves all day and night. It tightly fit all 6 of us, but then again, we would've been just as cramped, if not, more, in any other hotel room. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and definitely would come here again, in a heartbeat. I stayed two nights here this past weekend in Bonita. I had a great experience from the beginning of the stay to the end. Perfect location and the room was super cute and well kept (lots of nice thoughtful details that was put into it I can tell) and we enjoyed the patio area with the fire pit and tables and seats. The bed was also comfortable. Also, the management was readily available when needed and I appreciated the communication and the attentiveness to my stay. Thank you for a great experience. We stayed in the studio in Sept for weekend getaway. Karen was absolutely amazing! She was so accommodating and helpful every step of the way. we booked over a month in advance and it was seamless from that point, to the check in, and the check out. This place has so much character. Its tucked away in a world of its own even when the riff raff is going on around you, you wouldn't even know it! The sound of the water very close by is so relaxing. The beach is right across the street with no storefronts to obstruct your view. If you stay in the upstairs double bed unit just be kind to those who are staying beneath you in the studio :) All units have hard wood floors :) And dont forget, you have a fridge and keurig coffee maker and stove so you can bring anything you like and prepare it in your unit! It was so wonderful to wake up in the morning and open every Ocean facing window while sipping brewed coffee in the most cutest mugs the hacienda fully stocks (dishes) for you! ... The cute little eateries on the boardwalk and below the hacienda are so convenient and mature. This visit has a special place in our hearts and we will definitely be back year after year. I was very disappointed with this hotel! The room smelled like cigarettes as soon as we checked in and thought maybe it was a one time thing but I was wrong first thing at 6:00 am the smell came barreling through! My son had my dog at the hotel next door because they were dog friendly and this hotel is not, but they didn't even allow my dog to come over and pick me up to go eat. They actually threatened to charge me $200.00 for a cleaning fee..for what I dont know! This was a horrible experience for me! I will never stay there again!!! read more

I've been coming down to San Clemente off an on for a few year now and I think this is my favorite family owned hotel in the area. I stayed in the front lower room so I'm not sure about the back ones, but I had access to a patio with an amazing view of the San Clemente pier less than a stone's throw away from the beach. read more

I cannot say enough about the hospitality, value, location, and sheer bliss this accommodation afforded us. Family owned and operated, this is the place to be in San Clemente. Walk to the beach in seconds. Fabulous breakfast, lunch and dinner just steps away. And with the small kitchen available, you can take a short jaunt to the market or a little farther to a beautiful grocery store for snacks and meals to prepare for yourself. The views from the living, dining, and bedroom are movie-worthy. My boys couldn't stop saying they thought they were dreaming :). The beds and linens were extremely comfortable and clean. The accommodation not only has everything you need for a comfortable stay but the location and the charm of the place is perfect. My family and I stayed in the back units for a few days while travelling through California on vacation. I have to admit that I was a little nervous about staying here. Booking a place sight unseen is always a little risky, but now that I have stayed here, I plan on coming back over and over again. I can't say enough about this place. My family and I loved this place for so many reasons. First off, the property is beautiful and well maintained. According to the owner's website, the buildings were built in 1928. The timber framing, solid plaster walls, and antique fixtures make this place far more interesting and unique compared to any of the other places nearby. I couldn't help but feel the history as I made my way about the property. From time to time I could hear the ghostly echoes of laughter from all the people who have lived and stayed here over the last 89 years. Sometimes it felt as though I had gone back in time. Other times, with the Spanish style stucco walls, Spanish tile roofs, and Saltillo like flooring, I felt as though I was transported to some seaside village located somewhere along the Spanish coast. Ahhh. The property itself, especially the courtyard area, is abundantly green with grassy lawn sections and various kinds of trees and bushes growing about the property. An extensive collection of flower pots line the walkways and stairways for a colorful and charming view that you would expect from a Spanish décor theme. Internally, the buildings are tastefully decorated with rustic wood ceilings adorned with rustic wood beams and columns. The flooring is also wood, although I believe other units may have Saltillo tile like flooring. The building may be old, but the units are equipped with basic modern day necessities such as satellite HD TV, refrigerator, range oven, and microwave. The kitchen comes stocked with basic cooking supplies such as pots and pans, plates, glasses, and even basic spices needed for cooking. Our unit had a kitchen table big enough for 6 people or more. I rented two units with three different beds and all three beds were comfortable, which says a lot, considering that I am accustomed to a $10,000 Tempur-pedic bed. I travel quite a bit and one of my pet peeves is poor shower and toilet performance. I am happy to say that the showers and toilets here performed adequately. The water pressure was good and the toilets flushed. One thing that I really liked about this place was how the windows opened. So many beach rentals have windows that don't open or are locked shut making for a hot and stuffy room experience. When I vacation near the ocean, I want to smell the air, feel the air, and hear the ocean and this place allows for that. As for the other things...what can I say, location, location, location. This place is built directly across the beach and also behind the San Clemente Pier. The beach and pier are literally seconds away. In addition, this place is located just seconds from various shops and restaurants, once you park your car, leave it, because there is no reason to drive anywhere here. There are about 6-7 restaurants on this little strip along with a supply store and coffee shop. The San Clemente Pier offers two seafood restaurants and both provide outdoor seating over the water for a spectacular view. If you want to cook your own meals while staying here, San Clemente offers a nice grocery store nearby with a decent selection of seafood, meats, and vegetables along with everything else that a grocery store normally provides. In addition to that, the City of San Clemente offers a variety of restaurants, gas stations, and clothing stores for all your needs. If you enjoy fishing, you can fish from the San Clemente Pier from early morning to midnight I believe. You can even rent fishing poles and tackle from the shop on the pier. Bait can be purchased here as well. San Clemente is known for its large waves and surfing. On any given day you are sure to find a good surfing show from anywhere on the beach. Maybe the show will inspire your to give surfing a try yourself. The downside with San Clemente is that the beach is somewhat rocky (smooth round stones) but I didn't find this problematic at all. There is still plenty of sandy spots to call your own, but just know that you are not getting pure sandy beaches found at other beaches along the California coast. Lastly, the other thing that makes this place so amazing are the owners, John and Karen. They were so friendly, informative, and accommodating, not to mention interesting, they inadvertently became a big part of our memories from this trip. I cannot speak of my vacation to San Clemente without mentioning them. We found many of the residents of San Clemente to be just like John and Karen, friendly, helpful, and unusually patient with tourist. I hope this place never changes. Where to begin. In December, through Hotels.com, I made a reservation for this hotel. Unfortunately, I accidentally made the reservation for 02/23 as opposed to 12/23. This would normally not be an issue, but this particular reservation was not revisable. I immediately recognized my mistake and reached out to Hotels.com, who told me that I would have to speak directly with the hotel. I called and emailed the hotel and spoke to a woman at the desk who took mercy on my plight. While there were no more available rooms for 12/23, she assured me that they would refund my money. I told her that I appreciated her understanding and her Christmas spirit. Adding that as educators, lost money was particularly impactful. A few days passed, and I noticed that the reservation had not been canceled. I tried to contact the hotel, but no response. I contacted Hotels.com and they said the hotel now refused to change my reservation. Wow, so after being so effusive with my praise to the employee with whom I spoke, I come to find that they were just placating me. So, so disappointing. I think it goes without saying that this says volumes about hotel staff, management, and ownership. read more
