I've never written a bad review in my life, but I have to share this. BED BUGS. I stayed here with a friend and I slept on the foldout couch bed. The bed had seen better days but I tried to make the best of it. It turned out to have bed bugs. After two nights in the room, My torso is now completely covered in what is clearly bed bug bites. Upon removing the bedding and mattress cover, I discovered the mattress seams were covered with bed bug feces, eggs, and shed skins. There were also stains on the underside of the mattress possibly from a previous infestation. I was very polite and discreet when informing the hotel of the situation so as not to alarm other guests. Unfortunately, however, Not only did they not offer to pay for a laundry service (I spent my entire vacation day in their basement washing my possibly infested clothes that had been on the bed myself). On top of that, they had a "pest guy" come gaslight me to tell me there were no bugs, even though I had photo proof of them on the mattresses and an entire body of bites to suggest otherwise. When I showed him, the pest guy lied and said that the bugs "only live on the sides of the mattress, not the seams, and that they wouldn't have been able to get out of the sheets to bite me" even if they were there, which he claimed there weren't. These statements are incorrect and blatant lies. They also did not refund us yet. Do not stay here. That couch is still in the room and likely still infested. read more

This is a timeshare. So when we called a few times before arrival, no one picked up. Once we arrived we were upgraded to ocean view room, this made the experience much more pleasant. Free parking was a great plus as well. The condition of the room was somewhat clean but dated, the sheets were stained and the space behind the Murphy bed was filthy. Other than that that, the ocean views and hearing the waives made up for the shortfalls we noticed in the room. Also the location is right on the beach and next to everything. OK....here's the real story. I've read some really crazy negative reviews here. I was pretty surprised on a few. Complaining about water pressure, the size of the kitchen, the brush to clean sand off your feet, outdated furniture, mattress conditions, the front desk people, the gas bbqs. I am a new owner here, bought one week 2 years ago and recently purchased another week. My Wife and I are in complete paradise when we are here. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The place is always clean and perfect for us. Plenty of room for our clothes and belongings. Kitchen is plenty big for cooking anything you want with all the necessary utensils. As for the BBQ grill that every unit has their own, we've been in 5 different units over the last 3 years and if the button doesn't light and you have to use the ligher they provide, it doesn't blow up in your face Some of these negative reviews are almost comical, but actually they're just flat out lies and just plain mean. If you don't like it V.P, Elena and whoever else is as angry at the world as you....go somewhere else please, more room for us happy, appreciative people. read more

Worst timeshare experience of our lifetime. We were eaten alive by a massive invasion of mosquitoes (resulting in 14 serious mosquito bites in two days). Their solution: "keep your doors and windows closed ". All that did was trap the inside our unit. Can't believe had tolerate the WORST reservation in the entire timeshare industry (for 7 consecutive weeks) over a year ago only to be FORCED to move out after only two days. Last time we'll ever use this property. Need to find a way to DUMP this property. Bought this property in 1988 from Glen Ivy for $14k. Now can't give it away. read more

The resort looks good on the outside; good structure and paints. The inside is like a cheap hotel. The building is ocean front but the room is shoddy. No kitchen table.The patio has the dining table which you cannot use on a rainy day. The kitchen is described as a full kitchen but very small and the breakfast counter can only accommodate one counter height chair. The sliding bedroom door cannot be opened completely. Very small bedroom and the flat screen TV in the bedroom was just nailed to the top of a corner cabinet. The bedroom drawers in the BR is only 3 inches thick while the rest of the drawers protrudes in the area that was supposed to be the dining room. The ocean view rooms are for owners only when reserving 13 months out. Two things that are positive- the 1BR suite has 2 bathrooms and they were both newly renovated. There is security parking. Our room was facing the street right in front of two gasoline stations. We checked out the next day and wasted our week of timeshare exchange. No drop box available as we checked out on New Years Eve. I believe were better empty rooms available but I was not offered to us since it would be better to rent it. We couldn't sleep from the street noise. read more

Aa a long time visitor, both for short visits and for the long timeshare weeks, I feel at home. Love this hideaway, The small but tidy and comfortable suite, the long staircase down to the ocean, and the staff who remember our family. This is my second time here during the pandemic and I have been grateful for the cleanliness, the adherence to safety. But I also love this place as a small, intimate and friendly resort with big private balconies that overlook the ocean and allow the soothing sound of waves to come into the room at night. My wife and I have been owners since 2008. We have travelled to many beautiful locations throughout the world; and, when staying at Laguna Surf, have always marvelled "Why go anywhere else?" The resort is located on a bluff near the center of town. If you stay on the ocean side (even numbered rooms), you have unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean. There's gas grills and dining tables on each private balcony. Every unit has a full kitchen and full-size refrigerator. Dispite all of the wonderful restaurants in the area, our favorite place to eat is on the balcony. (Tip: Stock up at Costco or other grocery store on the way in. There are luggage carts available in the garage to haul up supplies.) The resort has only 25 units (18 on the ocean side). Most of the units are one bedroom, two bathroom, with a Murphy bed in the living room. Four person maximum occupancy, no smoking on the premises, and no pets allowed. Each unit has a gas fireplace and comes with a dedicated, secure parking space. Common areas include a lounge with computer and large screen TV, whirlpool spa, and an observation deck with tables, umbrellas, and chairs. The resort staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure your comfort. Most of the staff have been there a number of years and do a fantastic job maintaining the facility. The staff have a wealth of local knowledge and can offer valuable suggestions on what to do and places to go. Overall, weekly rates are well below average for Laguna Beach. read more

Ocean view unit 310 April 26st - May 3rd, unit 302 for another week. We were checked in by Cynthia who was not friendly and seemed programmed and fake rather than coming down to a personal level with occupants. We saw feces on the front of the toilet in the master bedroom. We personally cleaned this, we regret not bringing it to Ramiro's (resort manager) attention. The mattresses swag, and are not pillow top mattresses. Mattress pads are used to hide the worn out mattresses. We found several long human hairs in towels, couch, and bedding. We found hair bunnies on the floors. The BBQ grills are a FIRE CODE for California. The ignitors built into the grills don't work and guests are required to use a regular lighter. When the gas line is turned on, you smell the gas, then you light the grill with the lighter which creates a fire burst that pops into your face. Very dangerous and scary. According to the newsletter, eight units have been replaced and eight more are pending. I assume it's a money issue. (see operating surplus a little further down the review). The water pressure in the units are so low you cannot adequately rinse off in the shower. Our shower head was caked with sand from the beach. The resort no longer has a foot washing station at the beach level before climbing the steps. Once you come to the top level, they now have a large bristled brush and rug to wipe your feet off. Yes, the brush is used by everyone (hello foot fungus) and attached by a string, very unsanitary. The spigots that once was located on each level of the resort for rinsing feet are now turned off. So the tenants are entering the units and using the shower heads and brushing their feet with them, thus creating sand that is caked on the shower heads. Comment card submitted to the "overwhelmingly enthusiastic" Cynthia. It's sad to see this once quaint retreat go to the dumps. The resorts 2018 annual "operating surplus" is almost $100,000. We moved to 302 from May 3rd - May 10th. In the past we have had on occasion issues with the air conditioning not working in some of the units. The resort would state that they haven't "switched the lever on the roof". So to be sure I had emailed Ramiro, resort manager, asking him in February if unit 302 had any issues with the air conditioner. I still have the email and Ramiro said, no issues. So we were happy that we could trust him and finalized the booking and paid for it. We moved everything from 310 to 302 and turned on AC about 11am. Remember, no AC issues in 310, plus we stayed in unit 304 in November 2018 with no issues. We waited all day and finally called maintenance to check the AC. Nothing appeared wrong according to maintenance but he would check water on roof? Did not hear back. Went to front desk and cheerful Cynthia BS'ed us and did nothing or believed nothing we presented to her. Solution for them: they brought in two box fans for us to take back to our unit. Cynthia would follow up with us the next day, Saturday. Remember unit 304 and 310 would go down to 62 degrees and colder if you wanted. Next day heard nothing from Cynthia, went to front desk and ask her any word on AC being fixed. She said, "no we can't do anything, that one particular room is set at 70 degrees and she didn't understand how the other rooms are colder. She said she had spoke to maintenance manger (Ken), and Ramiro . They all said no lower than 70, then why did unit 304 and 310 go lower? Answer, 302 has AC problems. Stop BS'ing the occupants, we're not stupid. So we were miserably hot sleeping at night. We couldn't leave windows open because crashing of waves kept us awake. Smoke from fire pits, fireplaces and loud music played by nearby business was horrible. Unit 302 had several issues: refrigerator seal leaking cold air, DVD player not working, hair bunnies galore, no water in master (shower head replaced because of sand stuck inside) and sink stopper broken. It appears that this unit stuck in the corner is a unit no one wants. Now I understand why Ramiro was go eager and excited to put us in 302 for both weeks, but unable to put us anywhere else. We declined being here for both weeks and chose to stay in 310 and then 302. Sadly, we would have never paid for 302 had we known we had been lied to about the AC. We wanted to switch rooms, but was told by Cynthia that they were completely booked. However, the garage parking was not at full capacity, which tells me that there were rooms available. Plus we never saw anyone on their balconies. They allow dogs in the resort. Even though signs are posted, no pets, unless it's a service dog. On Friday we meet a lady in the elevator with a small dog (no visual signs of service) and cuddling it, obviously a pet. It was barking in the garage the day earlier and barking again as they were loading to leave. At least this review will be here indefinitely for others to read. The Laguna Surf gets top marks for location. Restaurants, shopping, groceries, art galleries - all within walking distance. The building is also on the beach so the units facing the ocean get a water view and the sounds of the surf. The parking garage is spacious and additional spaces are available for a small fee. The units themselves are small and utilitarian. The kitchen had the basics as far as dishes and cooking utensils but other than salt and pepper you'll need to buy everything you need if you want to cook. read more

Laguna Surf has the best location and views!! Our room on the 3rd floor had a large ocean view balcony with patio furniture and a nice BBQ. We were able to dine and enjoy the best ocean view every day. It also comes with 1 free parking spot so we parked the car and did not need it the rest of the stay. The resort is located so that you can walk to everything in Laguna (shops, restaurants, art galleries). Laguna Beach is so pretty and scenic. The condo had 2 bathrooms (a plus!) and a full kitchen. There is a Ralphs only a couple blocks away so it was easy to get groceries and cook meals but there was also tons of wonderful restaurants within a few blocks. They also have a roof top jacuzzi with ocean views and let you borrow chairs and umbrellas for free. This is a timeshare so you either have to own there or rent from another owner. I found rentals on RedWeek.com and LagunaSurfByOwner.com. The rates are very reasonable compared to what the hotels charge and you get a entire condo! 'Came by last Friday to visit a friend who was staying here during the week, timeshare. It's located in a decent part of Laguna Beach, nearest cross street is Legion. This is a good thing to know since the front of Laguna Surf is so non-descript it makes yes/no answers seem wordy... The front sits about 9' back from the road in between two other businesses that sit practically on the curb. It's a tucked back, red brick building that looks like a parking garage more than a resort. When you enter, you drive down into the below ground parking area. Hence, it looking like a parking garage... There is no signage on the front, only the numbers, 611. That's it, so very lame. 'With that said, large as the numbers are there is no light in the evening to see the address. So bizarre, I had to laugh. WTF? Open houses have more signage. I called my friend saying that according to the GPS on my iPhone, I had just passed it, going to have to come back around... I came from a side street that ran parallel to PCH, then turned on Legion back to PCH. I was on the phone with her as I waited at the light, looked up across the street... 'And from the surrounding lights, I could barely see 611 on the front of a building. Shit! I was supposed to see that, "no lighting, recessed BS," from PCH as I sped by at 35 mph at night?! Hell no. I'm sure it's hard enough to find during the day. 8/ Maybe it's supposed to be mainly for the timeshare members, no advertising needed. I did check their site later and found that they do rent to the general public. November - February ($185 - $225) March - April ($200 - $250) May - June ($225 - $275) July - August ($350 - $400) September - October ($200 - $250) *These are per night rates/ two night minimum. Pricing is relatively moderate for the area. On the outside, Laguna Surf has no character, a big red, brick building that can be easily mistaken for a garage. That's it. The room however was pretty nice, simple, comfortable, relatively spacious, and clean. The one bedroom condominium was on the top third floor. It sleeps four people, five if someone uses the couch. It had a full kitchen, gas fireplace, and a balcony overlooking the ocean. Great view. ('Truth be said, so does every other place located on the beach.) Each unit also has its own gas barbecue on the balcony for grilling. From the resort, you have direct beach access via a back stairway, an observation deck, a lounge with a big screen tv, and free WiFi. (A very common amenity at most places today but not always.) This place is the bomb! My daughter and I are extremely picky and we were not disappointed! The ocean views are spectacular, has a full kitchen, 2 baths, 1 bed, 1 couch pulls out, and 1 other bunk that pulls out from the wall. There are nice patio verandas to eat, work, or play. There is even a fireplace for cool evenings. There are screen windows to allow the ocean air and sound lull you to sleep. The other added bonus is they don't charge for nightly parking. DO NOT GO TO ATHENA SPA, even though they offer a discount....was very disappointed. The only caveat is the (partial ocean view rooms). They are extremely partial, if you will, and can only been seen by the side of the patio balcony and you have to stand there is no place to sit. Also these rooms have noisy traffic and street nonsense when windows are open. If you don't mind the neighborhood side, then these rooms are good, but if you really want to experience Laguna, get an oceanview. You will not be disappointed compared with the cost of lounging. read more

My family has been coming here since the 80's when it was part of the Glen Ivy group. We live in Rossmoor, CA which is about 35 minutes away from our kids, but feels like much further away. We were close enough to come home if there were issues at home (raising a family in the 80's). The ocean view is tremendous. Room enough for 4 people. There are 18 rooms with ocean views and 7 rooms street side. Get the Ocean rooms, but street is OK, but not the same as the Ocean view. Full kitchen, but bring your spices and a good sharp knife. The staff is very good and quite helpful. I love coming here and I love being an owner for close to 30 years. read more

We have rented an ocean view room at the Laguna Surf for the past 10 years. It is a week that we look forward to all year! If you are looking for a fancy hotel room, than this is not your place, however, if you like sitting on your deck and watching the sunset and falling asleep to the waves than this could work for you! It has a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a Murphy Bed, bedroom and decks with a gas barbecue. The staff has always been great to us and we are looking forward to the next time we can be there and get our beach fix! Being able to park your car and walk down to Main Beach, downtown or to the grocery store is great! read more

The view and location can't be beat. The resort sits up on a bluff right with 180 degree ocean views. Most of the units face the ocean and they all have a nice sized balcony, so you can sit there and enjoy the view. There is also patio furniture and a BBQ on the balcony so you can dine out there too. The units have a full kitchen (really saves on eating out), 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom with a queen bed and also a murphy bed in the living room, so it sleeps 4 comfortably. There is free parking and wifi. The location is near everything, you can walk to so many great restaurants, shops and a couple grocery stores, so you never need to drive. There is also a beautiful observation deck with great views and a rooftop jacuzzi. There probably isn't another resort in Laguna wiht a better view and the large balconies are a real plus! We love it here and stay whenever we can. read more

I love this place since it was recommended to me by a frequent guest. It is perfect for R & R. Close to shops, restaurants, and venues....walking the area is part of its charm. The rooms are perfect for me, clean, spacious, and up to date. The jewel is hanging over the beach and hearing the waves lull you to sleep. This has become my annual retreat. I have rented from owners and gotten wonderful units, 210 and 308. I walk the beach, relax, and cook many meals because I don't want to waste time waiting and eating out. There are 3 festivals during July and August that are a great diversion. You just can't beat the location, help..Martha and all the office staff and the beach! read more

We have owned here since the 80's (several weeks) since it was sand. The overall condition of the property is still in the 80's. Semi comfortable now, needs a complete remodel. BIG Problem is most of the owners are well into retirement age and most cannot or will not reinvest into the property. Their kids have little to no interest in re-habing this property.The booking system is the worst system I have ever seen in the industry. If you happen to be somewhat local, you can show up on booking days and have a big advantage over those that have to drive 7+ hours each way to try to do this. The manager Ramiro has a very inflated image of himself. He has proven himself to be a man that landed a good job here and seems to recruit all his friends to work here, some are dumber than a box of rocks read more

We own a unit at Laguna Surf. The units facing the ocean are nice. The higher up, the better view you'll get but the ocean is the ocean is the ocean and it's lovely. RENT a unit someday and enjoy. DO NOT however, BUY a unit. In order to reserve your unit for the following year, you have to either go there and spend the night in their lobby 24 hrs. in advance of the time they'll open the door to receive requests OR write a letter or send a fax or an email 14 days in advance. They turn those upside down and allegedly pick them randomly on a given day. If you do not get selected in time, the only units left face the streets so you may as well stay home. Since they claim that 100's of people call in at the same time (or write, etc.) you may not get a place for the week you wanted. If not, you have to do this same drill every week until you get your unit. We have been calling, writing, faxing, emailing for the past 7 weeks and still do not have a place for next year. At this point, we're way beyond summer into November. It's insane and you're not aware that this is the process when you buy. Forget it. Buy elsewhere. read more
