My friends chose Larsen at the Hotel Laguna for its panoramic views and Californian food. Making a reservation in advance will help guarantee one of the window seats, so plan ahead. The easy onsite valet parking (validation at the restaurant makes it reasonably priced for beachfront hotel parking). We all enjoyed the shared calamari appetizer for $24 One meat eater chose the caesar salad ($18) with added steak ($16) which was enjoyed even though it was cooked at medium instead of rare doneness. I chose the $28 octopus which tasted much better than the presentation looked. The $26 shaved steak sandwich which was the least enjoyed of all our entrées because it was more bread than meat and not very well seasoned. We went to the Larsen restaurant. Inside the remodel looks beautiful. Ambiance is great, music was great. View is beautiful, right on the ocean. We sat on the patio and the music was still playing and the ambiance also very good. We had the French union soup (not my favorite) the sushi (super fresh 5 s), cigars (meat pastries with creamy horseradish) - really good, sliced beef sandwich and fries (it's a nice Philly cheesesteak sandwich). Service was decent. No major complaints. There was a patron who brought a super loud annoying yippee dog and the manager had her leave - much to the other guests' relief. Greg (the manager) came up an apologized for the annoyance and got us a round of drinks (wifey had the espresso martini which she rated 8/10 and I had a virgin mojito which was good) just to make sure we were happy. All in all it was a great vibe on a Sunday and we would definitely return. read more

The dining room is so beautiful that even if the food wasn't great, I would recommend coming. But the food was also delicious so don't miss out! Inside, the dining room is sleek and modern with an amazing view of the ocean from every table. I definitely recommend arriving before the sun sets so that you can appreciate the view. We loved everything we ordered--definitely try the smoked salmon starter. The forbidden rice chips it comes with were so good! Other recs: the salmon, sea bass, and the pear creme brûlée. But I don't think you can go wrong with anything else, either. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. It was my moms birthday, and they treated us to a free dessert! Parking is definitely highway robbery at $15 with validation. Unfortunately, little way to get around that. read more

Really enjoyed this place. We stayed in the inside bar, complete with a warm fire in the fireplace, beautiful and comfortable leather furniture. Window views of the ocean. There is also outdoor seating on their deck. Lots of fun cocktails to choose from but the dessert menu (we had already eaten elsewhere) had a day selection and a night selection. All the good stuff was on the night menu but we were too early for it. We just opted for drinks and a chocolate chip cookie to share. It was a little overcooked and uneventful. Was super excited to go see the newly remodels Hotel Laguna and it does not disappoint!!! Gorgeous is an understatement! We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails, a mojito, the clear rum punch and a horchta. The mojito was typical and rum punch creative and tasty but tiny! The horchata was as expected but served in a tacky plastic cup with a lid... not representative of the price point for sure! The bar, restaurant and patio area were all packed with pretty people and the view, if fortunate to sit outside is Laguna perfection! Service was slow but it was a Friday early evening and bartenders were working hard to get the crowd served. Lots of room for improvement in operations but location, decor and vibe wins on this one! Our waiter was not good, seemed to only want to do the bare minimum. No deviations from menu at all, said no to request to cook my steak a particular way, wouldn't even ask the chef. Said no to request for a few extra bread slices to finish appetizer. They were tiny baguette slices, probably less than 50 cents. Said we had to purchase another appetizer. Horrible service. My wife and I wanted to try to restaurant because we new that it took several years to open. So, we were excited. However, that excitement came to an abrupt end quickly. We arrived at 4pm to watch the sunset and sat at the bar. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside, but we were informed that we could not sit outside because every seat was "reserved". We watch for an hour, from the bar with no one ever was seated outside. I finally asked the hostess to sit us outside. She reluctantly sat us outside. Once outside, we thought that service would get better. This was not the case. It took the waitress over 1hr to ask us for a drink or for water. Once she took our drink order, it took over 20min to get a drink. I thought I could get a drink quicker by going to the bar. Once at the bar, the bartender told me he couldn't take my drink because he had 19 other orders head of mine. What kind of customer service is this??? Once or food order was placed, the waitress forgot to enter our order, so we waited another hour to get our dinner. At this point, we had to leave and cancel our entire order. WORST EXPERIENCE IN ORANGE COUNTY!!! read more

Had reservations at Larsen's (restaurant). It just opened, they did a great job remodeling. We had a reservation at 12:15pm, asked to be seated outdoors, they said it would be a 45 min wait. We said no problem and sat at the bar in the mean time. An hour and half passed and they basically told us they couldn't sit us outside after all that time at the bar. The manager, Chad St. John, checks in to make sure you are having the best experience possible. 5 Star rating for Chad alone !! His staff, Neil the Bar manager our server last night, Brain, the articulate, knowledgeable and friendly server, and the hostess, went well beyond any customer service and employee expectation during ANY dining experience we have had in years !! The atmosphere is very very comfortable, like going home after a rough day at work. The newly renovated restaurant is clean and classy- not overdone.. Simple and beautiful- WOW- The Chef is impeccable and we had the best seared scallops, smoked salmon, and fillet minion ever- We eat out at least 2 x a week !!! WOW !!! It you do not know of this hidden secret, right next to main beach, get there- the scenery overlooks the beautiful Laguna Beach and sets the bar real high for other restaurants !!! We had a reservation at 12:30, after we sat down for 2 hours, we are in the middle of our lunch. The host came to us, and told us to leave, because someone else will take our table. We are really disappointed. The food is good. But we are not coming back to this restaurant. The valet parking is really expensive. Nice decor and vibe but disappointing service and food. Vastly overpriced. The hostess actually pointed(!!) us to our table instead of escorting us. The first waiter we had greeted us then left us sitting for 15 minutes before coming back to take our drink order. The food was uninspiring for the price. My entree was downright awful ... King Crab and some kind of pasta. It was more like a soup with 5 little raviolis and an off-putting flavor. The ocean view was great but we also had a view of a plastic tarp with cinder blocks apparently covering a roof leak. We spent over $600 for the 4 of us and had to pay $35 for the valet. The "validation" is $10 for 2 hours and $5 every 30 minutes after. Nice goodbye and thank you gift. read more

I am an easy going person and rarely write reviews but I must alert you to be aware of Hotel Laguna as it is run by thugs. I had two bad experiences. (1) A couple of weeks ago I was there with a friend. The single bartender made service difficult, but things were alright; food just OK and expensive, but par. However, on leaving they demanded $40 to get my car from valet. That is outrageous and they used hard arm tactics to threaten me to pay. They obviously had my key. Over the next few days I called the Hotel 3 times and each time got voicemail with a message they would call back. They never once called back. (2) Now the worst! This weekend I was with a group of friends at the Cabana OC on Ocean (great place, you should check it out). We then wondered over to the Hotel Laguna for drinks. I used my credit card to buy a round for my friends and left it open. BIG MISTAKE. About an hour later when we were leaving I asked for my bill and in addition to my drinks it also had 5 shots of 1942 tequila shots for $300 on it. I said that is not mine and have no idea who ordered them. It wasn't our group. I argued this profusely and they couldn't even identify who they served the shots to! Still they refused to make an adjustment and pinning it on me. I even offered to pay half since they have a huge profit in there. Answer was a threatening no. They then brought a security thug to stand right over my back to prevent me from leaving. I hold no choice but to pay this extra $300. Outrageous. This is a low-life venue. Stay away for your own good. read more

We had lunch there last Friday and it was fantastic. The ambiance is five star and the outdoor dining area with view of the ocean is beautiful. We enjoyed the pork belly lettuce wraps, Strong Tacos, and burger. Food was all prepared perfectly and serving sizes were not excessive. Service was great and we will definitely go back. The lobby area has a historical photo wall of the Hotel Laguna which we enjoyed viewing. Also, there's a really cool and old Laguna Beach pinball machine. The Hotel Laguna is soon to be the new best attraction in the California Riviera. Larsen is the new spot and the future luxury scene in downtown. The newly Hotel Laguna is being remodeled, but the signature restaurant, Larsen, is newly launched and absolutely lovely. Stunning ocean sunsets, dinners and drinks on the sand. It is reminiscent of the French Riviera and draws a very lovely crowd of locals who eagerly awaited this treasure. Chad, the restaurant owner welcomed us on our first visit after its opening. He helped us book oceanfront reservations for my birthday outside with beautiful seating and ambiance, Brian, our expert server, is movie gorgeous and talked at our table about all the menu and recommendations. Neil, the bar manager, came over several times and offered us special fruit bubblies that I will ask for again and again. I highly recommend this beautiful slice of true Laguna. read more

My wife and I celebrated our Anniversary at Larsen last night. It was our first time there and we LOVED it. Obviously the ambiance was spectacular, but the food and the service were excellent. I was SO excited to check out the newly re-opened Hotel Laguna this past weekend and boy was I disappointed with the experience. You walk in and are just in awe by the decor with no one to welcome you in or tell you where to go be be seated to one of the two restaurants or bar. Once you find the hostess stand by yourself, you are greeted by pre-teens that are beyond unprofessional and contradict themselves about seating (I wanted to sot outside of course.) I was told I was not able to sit outside due to the time I came so I opted for inside bar seating. I then watched people be seated in the beautiful outside patio for the entirety of my two hour stay (which was denied to me minutes prior.) Once I was ready to pay my tab, the bartender took over 30 minutes to check me out, yet was right there every time I needed a new drink to rack up my tab. I had to ask the bar back to check me out and was never acknowledged by the one single bartender on a very slow day. All in all, drinks were just fine, food was eh, and prices were as expected for a Laguna Beach restaurant. Very disappointed with the service of such a beautiful hotel. Complete lack of management which I hope improves over time, because this place looks straight out of a movie! read more
