John is awesome, helpful, friendly, attentive. He went above and beyond to make my experience a good one. I came as a walk in to get my car smog checked and he helped me right away in the late afternoon. I forgot my DMV paperwork, but he was able to enter/obtain my information manually and I couldn't be more thankful for his patience. I was worried about not passing as I have an older 2003 toyota but he was able to give me a quick pre-test before running the actual check. Been taking my car here for years, even when I switch cars. Today I came unprepared and didn't have my registration renewal ppwk with me, but after a confirming some info, they went ahead and allowed my car to get smogged. I do not feel this is a reputable business. They refused to honor a coupon that was on their own website. Initially they said it was expired. However, the coupon does not show an expiration date. They then said it was posted in error. Seems like a bait and switch operation to me. read more

First the older one with a hair bump asked me if I had a check engine light on I said I believe no and I was there for a smog check. He moved my car into the shop and then damaged the wiring so it wouldn't start. I had to have it towed for $185--SR Towing and my car was fixed and smogged at Hoehn Honda Carlsbad about $290--This place should get Zero Stars. John the gentleman running the place is super helpful, came in after I installed a new battery, he did a protest check and told me I needed to drive it for a bit to reset the computer. That didn't work so he gave me more information on where I should look to find the solution. After some internet searching I found a TSB that addressed the issue and the dealership fixed it for free!! I returned here and passed the smog test no problem! read more

After moving from the neighborhood last year I initially went to a place close to home where I was charged $90 and failed. I was told I failed the smoke test and visual inspection but they couldn't or wouldn't explain what that meant. So I went to Oceanside Smog where I used to go, knowing they'd at least take the time to explain that. Once they did the visual test, I was told he didn't see any of what the other place supposedly saw. They tested and I passed easily. They were half the price, explained the whole process and answered all my questions. Incidentally, I've called the state board to report the other place that charges $30 (should only be $8.95) for the certificate and also offered to "repair" whatever it was they thought they saw wrong... I will be getting my $90 back. read more

If you failed somewhere and you want straight answers ob what might be the cause, John will give your ideas and yep get you back on the road. My 1995 bmw was failing and I couldn't makes it better. John tested it over and over, often doing quick pre tests just so I could see if I made progress. He was more excited than I was when we finally solved the issue.
