Mark failed my vehicle due to a visual, its passed before at other smog shops, i mentioned to him about the factory intake and it having a sticker, he could of gave a heads up prior and mentioned that he would fail it but he knowingly proceeded the smog inspection and failed me to collect $ i'm in the automotive business (service) and this is just bad practice on his end, a simple heads up would have been honorable, but to know he would fail it and take my $ is not cool. read more

This is a great place to bring your car for a smog test. I've been coming here for years. The customer service is exceptional! When my car became old, it failed smog one time. The guy, I can't remember his name (sorry), told me exactly what I needed to do, where to get the part, and how to put it in! I did it all on my own!. It was amazing. I took it back and it passed smog! This was an excellent value because if you failed smog the first time you get a discount when you take it back to the same place. Couldn't ask for more. I talked to Mark Klaus the owner of Tri-City Smog Test Only Station yesterday when I was getting both cars serviced at this other automotive repair shop. Mark told me the reason he has to increase the price from $70.00 to $75.00 on doing the Smog Tests on older vehicles like my 1995 Honda Civic DX Coupe Car and my mom's 1998 Honda Accord Sedan Car is because Mark has a special Certification to perform these Smog Tests on these really older vehicles. Older Cars are much harder to do Smog Tests on because these Smog Tests have to go through a rigorous process and the Smog Testing takes a longer amount of time to complete. When I talked to Mark yesterday morning at his Tri-City Smog Test Only Station, Mark said his Evap Machine that he uses on customers cars to conduct the Smog Tests is very expensive and also another machine that he is leasing on a monthly basis also is costing him a lot of money plus Mark needs to be able to make a good profit for him to pay his rent, utilities, and provide for his family. I told Mark yesterday since I have been his loyal customer for 10 years. I will take both cars my car and my mom's car to Mark for these Smog Tests even though the price has increased by $5.00 to $75.00. Mark has a lot of experience in conducting Smog Tests on customers cars. I also believe that Mark and I have a good business relationship with each other. I was taking my 2003 Honda Pilot here until I had to sadly send her off into the sunset a couple of years ago. This time I took my daughter's 2011 Kia Soul here because I already knew this place was solid. We came early on a Friday, there was no wait and the smog was done within 15 minutes. As far as pricing, they haven't changed their estimate/final pricing (which goes by the year/type of the car) in the 10 years that I've been here. In N Out in about the same amount of time as the famous fast food restaurant. Called about availability while i was at Costco down the street and came on in. Literally walked to the bodega in the same business park, got a drink and when i came back it was all done. Price was affordable, not inflated or bloated with things you don't need or want. Too often places will try to modernize a shop when running an efficient business is really where it's at. I don't know that I'd trust a young mechanic with a shop with free wifi and a big screen TV in the lobby trying to charge an extra $10 when a carbon copy (might be beyond alot of people's memories with that one) receipt, firm handshake and eye contact are more than worth it. You have my business as all my cars are now in the smog more often years. Protip: The only thing to worry about is timing with the school nearby. If you come at the wrong time in the afternoon you will get stuck behind the parents backing traffic up going North on Emerald. Stay in the left lane until after the school or come South down Emerald. read more

Went to the DMV to get a vehicle registered and they told me I needed a Smog test done. Called ahead and they stated they take walk-ins and appointments. Our cars smog tests seem to group together. Took my son's Pathfinder to our regular place and, after 15 minutes, the guy said they couldn't verify the new cats due to limited access but wouldn't charge us. Ok, no harm, no foul but seems he didn't want to take the time. Took it to Mark at Tri-City and he was able to see the markings he needed to see. Then, a couple weeks later, took my Jeep in. His prices are not the lowest, but not bad, and while I don't think he does coupons he also doesn't upcharge for SUV's so price is competitve. Why are SUV's upcharged over cars anyway? They are easier to access than small cars. Makes no sense other then other places trying to grab more money. read more

I usually got to a different location... This was close to where I had to play pool so I stopped by. I asked what happens if my car doesn't pass and was told we'll see... I wasn't told I'd have to pay.... and then pay again when it's ready to pass. I obviously had reservations. I've had several people tell me there are places you go that if you don't pass you don't pay. (ummm where are these places?) The worst part is... it IS my fault why it didn't pass. I had just put a new battery in my car which throws the testing off. I needed to drive it enough to reset the scensors. I guess I feel since I had concerns he could have asked me more questions and could have clearly answered my question about if I didn't pass. He offered to give me 20% off. I'd go back if it were 50% off or free I'll probably go someplace else to test it when I've driven it enough... guess, it's just the principal for me... read more
